he got the head right and I like the body proportions.

I don't care for the WWD tail whip but that one has to run its course.
>>
>>4525176
Isn't the tail KNOWN to be like that tho? I agree it probably couldn't crack it like a whip, but the tail was indeed super thin at the end
>>
>>4525182
yeah the tail was super thin at the end. The whip cracking part is the thing I have trouble with. His depiction looks like the WWD whip crackers right down to the loops and stripes.

but future scientists will come out against that. Paid contrarians.

What a handsome boi. Nice to see at least one modern paleo-artist who still exercises good taste.

>nooooo you NEED to give theropods whiskers, cocks-combs, neck quils, and perma-nictating membranes to give them zombie eyes!
>you can't prove they didn't have them so I'm doing it!!

Seriously, here's how to restore a theropod (or any prehistoric animal)
>start with the skeleton
>apply musculature
>pick a plausible color scheme
There. Done. MAYBE add a little speculative flair in the right context (mating display, etc) but otherwise, walk away. You're done.
Seriously, I am neither a professional artist nor a scientist and I still had the common sense and good taste to figure this out. Why can't they?

Ugueto's pretty good too, but I don't like how he's stuck feathers on shit like Silesaurids. He SHOULD know better. But usually he doesn't go full feathertroon. I especially like his realistic take on dinosaur coloration. Banding on the tail is something that we can be pretty sure dinosaurs had because just about every reptile with any amount of tail has that.

Because the point is to subvert. NOTHING in the modern era is fucked up on accident. All of it is intentional. They get attention and money from creating outrageous bullshit. All science and paleo"""art""" at this point is just the National Enquirer.

Which was never that inaccurate to begin with. A lot of REALLY old ideas about dinosaurs like the idea that they were covered in crocodilian like scales are being vindicated. Most people still don't know this though. Triceratops had crocodile like scutes on its underside and rather large, robust scales, not the beaded, smooth surface found in Hadrosaurs, for example.

This. Julio Lacerda does this too (pic rel). It's anatomically correct and scientifically plausible/up-to-date, but it's not excessive in the speculative elements and remains naturalist.

Though, I get Brian Engh's thought process for his paleoart. But I do agree his dino designs are too over the top. Like I get some real animals had whiskers or bright colors or dewlaps and whatnot, but putting all of those onto one animal is excessive and unlikely reconstruction.

No shit, 1920s paleontologists were pedantic and whiny too. Marsh famously didn't want any of his specimens mounted and sneered at anyone who tried because he didn't want the public to get "the wrong idea" about dinosaurs. Henry Fairfield Osborn was an absolute cocksucker, but most notably he padded out the length of Tyrannosaurus rex with ten solid feet of plaster vertebrae that never existed in the animal to begin with in order to make it an even 50 feet long, which weren't discovered until the 1970s. And it just goes on and on from there.

Anyone who claims paleontologists were cool in "ye olden days" and now they're all whiny no-fun bros is looking at the field through serious nostalgia goggles.
>>
>>4528501
>>4528492

The current working hypothesis for the Mesozoic is there would be dead babies everywhere. Mostly because dinosaurs bred like rabbits, and most predators prefer to target young animals they can easily overpower. Parental care is also suggested to not be much of a thing in some dinosaur groups like sauropods, so the bear-and larger sized juveniles would mostly be on their own. Kind of like alligators where they have a ton of babies and despite some parental care 75% of them get merced by herons.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2009-08-chicken-hearted-tyrants-predatory-dinosaurs-baby.amp

Paleontologists all over the place have been playing this up to highlight how the Mesozoic is *not* the modern world, where almost all large animals are mammals with small litter sizes and have much shorter juvenile periods. This is why PP seems so fixated on showing dead baby dinosaurs everywhere.

Rebelling and being contrarian is the only way to get your grant funded and your papers published.
Like the retarded "dead baby" thing for example shows a complete lack of common sense. Infant mortality from being crushed to death by your own parent is completely unheard of in just about any species, and there are far more simple explanations like predation or disease.

>Paleontologists all over the place have been playing this up to highlight how the Mesozoic is *not* the modern world
And anytime you see paleontologists playing up something, no matter what it is, what you're really seeing is agenda.
If something is likely the truth, it won't need "playing up" because it will speak for itself.
>>
>>4533382
no, its not
theres no reason for fibers to be around the ear holes, its not like a dog or any other fossorial animals that would need such adaption, even among extant reptiles
theres no reason for it to have a beak, because for one, its huge so it dont need precision biting; secondly it doesnt need to chop things up since dinosaur beaks are cope for incisors

>This weird need for every generation to "rebel" and act like they're nuhot shit is really fucking obnoxious. I want to smash everyone with a hammer that acts like this.
Anon even if there are always missteps, that weird thing has got us to where we are today. Even if today is still filled of problems.
Either accept it and make peace with it as a part of life or go Kaczynski mode, which is viable and respectable in its own right.

>If something is likely the truth, it won't need "playing up" because it will speak for itself.
This is incredibly naive. People are stupid and will cling to things that aren't true just because they've been memed so hard like how people still to this day believe in owls as wise creatures.

That tetrapod is as confused as I am NOPED.

The modern age is wrong. Kaczynski was right.

That doesn't negate what I said. You're talking about proving a commonly accepted misconception wrong. I'm talking about not having to push an agenda for something that's actually true, because it won't be needed. Ironically the term you used "memed so hard" is exactly what I mean.
To go back to dead babies everywhere, of course predators went for the young back then, just as they do today. It's almost self-evident and speaks for itself with a bit of common sense. So there shouldn't be a need to "highlight it" by cranking out drawings of babies getting chomped on left and right. Imagine if all the art of the modern Serengeti was of baboons eating baby impalas alive and ass first (which they do). Well if you commission Brian Engh for the job, that's what you'll likely get.

I know we can all think of a counter example or two, but typically there's a difference between an agenda and a fetish. The trend of degenerates in paleo art may be symptomatic of something further up stream but I'm not seeing a narrative here.

The're indistinguishable. Retards working together for mutual benefit is literally a conspiracy. It doesn't have to go any further than that. Midwits have been convinced by glowniggers that aliens or satanists have to be involved. They don't.

It’s another cryptocreationist paleo schizo thinks feathers and raptors eating tiny lizards somehow “subvert” something and further an “agenda”

Dude is literally christian weston chandler tier

I agree. Too bad it’s going to be saturated with depictions of them snacking on baby dinosaurs while curbstomping large theropods like the T. rex for the forseeable future, though, just to show “how scary they can be”.
