The cat is apparently scared of thunder and there is quite a storm going outside. What can I do to help her?
>>4520532Makes sure she has a little comfy hideout, I have a cat who's scared of thunder and loves hiding under the couch during storms.
>>4520535She does the same, but is there anything else I can do for her? Seems really stressed still.
>>4520528Lmao cuck
>>4520540Not really. Just let the cat cower until the storm is over.My cat is usually pretty chill but a couple of weeks ago we had a massive storm roll through. The cat was sleeping on my chest when a bolt of lightning hit 150 ft away. It spooked the cat and he jumped almost to the ceiling leaving huge slashes in my chest. It hurt like a motherfucker but I can't be too mad at the cat since I got pretty startled by it as well.

Please. I'm desperate, how do I stop the kitten from climbing on my legs? He started to do it even when I'm not wearing pants. My legs are in constant pain.
>>4520532I had a thunder storm earlier today and my kitten was like "meh, who cares", then proceeded to stare out the window for some time.

>>4520802Not sure about cats, but my friend had that problem with his dog and said that Bitter Apple worked
>>4520683Most of those style trees are probably too small for full-grown cats, but also too big for young (8-12 week) kittens. Size is going to be the main criteria, they are all about the same quality.
>>4520170aren't you worried if you're raising him wrong? what if he never mellows out when he's grown up
>>4521116I'm thrilled. He still follows me everywhere, stares for long time, sleeps with me and cuddles.
I was relaxing, listening to something knowing he was in another room. Then suddenly intense pain begins from under me and I spill coffee on him :(

>>4520683>>4520697>>4520703>>4521049The one anon posted is okay for adult cats, it's what is considered a large size cat tree. And since kittens won't stay kittens forever, get a tall and sturdy one right away, don't wait for the kitten to be older. The more elaborate it is, the funnier the experience for the cat will be.Don't forget to add scratchers, a card board box and toys.

>>4520806ok schizo
>>4521493looks retarded
>>4521293Adult cats up to 8lbs, what scamazon sellers consider a large tree because shipping actual large items is difficult. Pictured bottom right is obviously a kitten, but somehow the same size as the other cats.I bought 3 different amazon trees about a month ago, that's why I know.
you cat needs a palace also a 40k surgery at a vet, make sure to spit on a homeless person when you walk around
>>4521701Oh kek. I didn't use ((amazon)) to buy mine.Use an online pet store with good feedbacks or go to a physical store when possible.
>>4521711Physical petstore will be 3x as much minimum. Most of the scratchers at Petsmart near me are in the $300 range, scamazon is 80-120. Quality is about the same, it's just a question of knowing what you are going to get.
How do I train my cat not to be a racist? She bites and hisses at dark colored people. No way it's a learned behavior because she has never had bad experience with them before.
>>4521728:<
>>4520844Over ten thousand hours in Photoshop
How do I achieve this level of comfort
>>4521754Very nice lighting work in the second.
>>4521728That cat looks genetically defective, poor thing. I bet it's retarded as well.
I've trimmed his claws and now he no longer hurts me when we play or he randomly climbs me.
>>4521785you live vicariously by having a kitty cat who you can make that comfy and enjoying it
I'm thinking of getting a cat. What are the pro/cons of getting a pureblooded breed like siamese as opposed to some random mutt? For dogs, I always preferred pureblooded because mutt dogs can be a bit of a wild card behavior-wise and have much more distinct looks. With cats, unless I were to want a maine coon, a persian/bachycephalic breed, one of those bald breeds or a bengal, they all kinda look alike.
>>4521917They can often have health issues especially in their old ageBesides cats are all very similar in terms of behavior, breeds barely differ compared to dogs, so just get one you think looks pretty. Personally I like all orange cats.
>>4521935I see. And there's this FIV thing that apparently is pretty widespread among mongrels. Is it relevant to catkeeping at all? I know that is a lot less severe than hiv.I like the look of some breeds (angora, english shorthair, maine coon) but would rather not spend too much money on them when I cant get mongrels literally for free, often already dewormed and castrated.
>>4521917moggy cats are more likely to develop behavior problems or just go semi feral around adolescence or after their first litter if you dont desex themit's not a big issue because there's no great reason other than "bro you cant cut off his nuts that's inhumane" to not desex a moggy while with a purebred you have the pyramid scheme pedigree side hustle to consider
>>4521988Vet tech here: FIV is mid. They can live with it, with constant care and medication. The bigger problem is they're contagious.
>>4521917If you get a mutt cat you’re rolling the dice and might get some awful animal that is neither wild nor domesticated (and will therefore never be happy and able to live ethically- inside). Mutt cats also have more heritable diseases because it’s not survival of the fittest. Mutts are bred by crazy cat feeders and kitten millsI only buy from responsible breeders because anything else is plainly unethical
>>4521989Yeah, if I were to get a mongrel cat I would absolutely castrate it. With breed animals, I would probably join the pyramid scheme to recoup at least some of the money, but I would probably have to get a male because there are some nasty feral tomcats around my neighborhood. >>4521990I see. That's the kind of thing I dont want deal with. I'm already going to take up several extra responsabilities regarding the animal and it would be better to minimize these extra factors. >>4521993Thats odd. With dogs, I tend to see a lot of mutts develop cancer early, but rarely other bullshit inheritable diseases which are more common with certain breeds. But they are different animals, after all. I'm looking into the local breeders, but there only seem to be persian, maine coons and those weird sphynx cats (wtf why are there so many of them? I've never seen one irl). I like the coons and the shorthair, but they go for 5x the price of the persians...
>>4521993Spot on. People say noooo but then you ask them where cats are going to come from when the last kitten mill shuts down, spay and neuter reaches 100% compliance, people stop feeding cats to cars and dogs aka letting them outside, and the strays are all rounded up.
>>4520370Family friend's toaster have cat hairs in it, cats love sleeping on it cause it's warm.
I got crazy cat feeder kittens and at 6 months they're unbelievably well behaveddesexing next week, hopefully that doesn't create any trust issues
>>4521144Mah street nigga
what cat litter should i buy
>>4522087I use a shoebox top.
>>4521993Delusional. Reality is actually the reverse.
>>4522087any clumpingwhat's more important is that you get a litterbox without a lid or you'll get complacent and end up with your house reeking like cat piss/shit because instead of open fumes you clean often by necessity you'll have wafting hints of pee that build up your tolerance until you stop noticing just how bad the smell is around the rest of the housecovered litterboxes are a trap
>>4522087Organic clumping and non scented litter.
>>4521917As someone who has had cats with pedigrees (an american shorthair with a gorgeous silver-blue swirly coat, and a Somali who looked like a cross between a squirrel and a fox) and then just two DSH/moggie/mutts (a tuxedo cat, and a silver tabby), and they've all been really good cats. My only caution about getting a siamese is that they have a reputation for being "chatty" which is something worth considering since depending on the cat, and your tolerance, it can range from cute and endearing to absolutely fucking obnoxious. An old roommate had a cat that you could carry on a conversation with. If you spoke to the cat it would babble back a response and wait for your reply. It was like a tiny cow spotted wookie.
>have kot>the most well behaved one>indoor, neutered kot>she would never try to go outside even if the door was fully open>even when retarded sister wanted to go for a walk with her and literally forced her out of underneath my bed to go to the park, she would never try to go outside ever again>ff to more than a year later>she has been trying to go outside for some reason and she gets extremely insistent>she has managed to escape a few timesthis wouldn't be a problem if kots weren't an invasive specie, plus there are a bunch of stray dogs and neighbours who poison kots (we lost a stray kot who would visit to the latter)why does she suddendly wants to go outside? what should i do?
>>4522397Maybe she's suicidalOr the stray animal problem has been getting bad, and either the hormones are triggering some territorial instinct, or the people tired of finding shit, piss, dead animals, and chewed/clawed belongings are leaving out extra tasty poisoned baits. Anywhere that still has stray dogs (have ya'll niggas heard of rabies? i'll shoot a few hundred pitbulls and adopt out the normal dogs before letting that happen to the worst person I know) is sending up a red flag, that animals in general are a major problem.

>>4520350Found this grumpy lil dipshit in my car's wheel well and I love her so much bros
>>4522579Bless youIs she alone? Have you checked if there are siblings around? And the mother?
What do cats mean when they do this?
>>4522762She was alone, yea. Someone said they saw a grey tabby around that area later, but personally I never saw her. No other kittens outside either. My guess is she got separated from the litter and started looking for mom and got lost. Luckily I got her right around when she got old enough to start eating solid food and pooping/peeing on her own.
>>4522785If its gentle and playful, its a sign of affection. If accompanied by spitting and flicking tail, its a sign of overstimulation.
>>4522956
When the warm season starts, my cat loves to jump on the windowsill and stare outside. When he was a kitten he could lay down in the narrow spaces, now he can't anymore because he's too big.I see he tries to find a comfortable position but eventually gives up.His cat tree is right next to the window but it is not as exciting. What can I use as 'extention' for the windowsill? The window is about 1 mt from the ground level and the radiator is below it.

>>4523202Thanks :)>gaydiator:(
>>4521935There is a HUGE difference between a Siamese and your average stray in terms of behavior/personality
>>4522363This is true. But there are several other breeds that supposed to be just as friendly, without the noise.
i found an abandoned kitten. the vet said his exams looked good, but how often should he be shitting? he ate a lot as soon as soon as he got homehe’s about 6 weeks

>>4523195Do you think he's cat calling women?
>>4523487kittens should shit once per day, due to stress from changing the home, losing their mom they seem to get constipated, it's actually also because of the diet changeyou might have to get either baby cat or human baby enema formula and put it in his ass, water doesn't do much the chemicals in the enema actually do something and very fast, he'll almost instantly pump it out
i just love my little friend so much, even though she shits on any cloth on the floor with my scent on it. it's just her way of saying that i'm her pet monkey, and a toxoplasmosis-infested reminder that i now need to hang up the shower mat after showering
>>4522007based. i got my cat from a reputable golden retriever breeder on hoobly after being scammed on craigslist and ghosted by the few (((shelters))) who weren't trying to call my landlord, run a full credit check, have a vet consultation, scrutinize a 100-page questionnaire, have several personal references, do an in-person home inspection, and whatever the fuck else.i'm actually gonna buy a golden retriever from them when i buy a house. my cat is extremely well socialized, intact, in perfect health with a fully documented medical history, excellent vet reference, and i know her birthday to the very day. pretty sure she's a mutt as all tortoiseshell cats are, but she's obviously fine.
he climbs on me, I put him down, he repeats itwe go on this rodeo for hours
>touch cat>shitload of hair sticking to handDo cats shed more hair in summer?
I was about to build a cat tree of my own with scrap wood but it basically serves the same function as any tall furniture for the cat
>>4523917>(((shelters))) who weren't trying to call my landlord, run a full credit check, have a vet consultation, scrutinize a 100-page questionnaire, have several personal references, do an in-person home inspection, and whatever the fuck else.wtf is wrong with modern shelters. I mean, I’d pass easily, but I don’t want to subject myself to this bullshit.
>>4522397Harness and walk the cat
I don't think I can do it any more. The meowing, the constant need for attention and affection and play. The dirty, messy litter trays. The constant shedding of fur everywhere around the house. The misbehaving, climbing and scratching shit they shouldn't. They fight and scream at each other every other night unless I separate them. Aside from petting them and the occasional "aww, they're so cute" moment, I just don't think I can put up with all the negatives of having these neurotic little shits in my house. I like cats, but I don't love these ones. Do I send them back to the RSPCA shelter, or try riding it out a bit longer?
My cat separated and hid one of her kittens somewhere, is this normal behavior or is that kitten a goner? They're about two weeks old
On Sunday one of my cats stopped eating/drinking and was lethargic. This behavior continued Monday and I gave her a glob of laxatone because I read she may have a blocked hairball. I also watched her pee in the litter box but haven’t witnessed pooping. Monday night I syringed 3 teaspoons of water into her mouth and she drank it. This morning her appetite is back and she is much perkier, but not 100%. She ate about a whole can of a fancy feast sized can portion of food and a handful of treats. She’s in loaf mode looking out the window now. I tried playing with her but she wasn’t interested like she normally is. She was kneading on a pillow for a bit too. What made her unwell like that? I’ll continue monitoring. I haven’t seen any hairballs she might’ve been able to cough up. We have no plants she could have gotten into. She’s indoors only.
>>4522983imagine the smell
>>4524190Why did you get multiple cats?
>>4524009>I’d pass easilythat's what he said. but yeah, it's insane. like being subject to the toxoplasmosis inquisition where the high priestess is a psychotic old lady, upholding byzantine edicts of eligibility, with disciples like jackson galaxy (((Richard Kirschner))) preaching mantras like "adopt don't shop" and "neuter your pets"i get that shelter people are volunteers, but in my experience they have no sense of professionalism. like they can't even be arsed to check the email or answer the phone. i volunteer myself, and if i couldn't uphold basic standards of professional behavior, i just wouldn't volunteer
>>4523997In spring and autumn>>4523998But they can scratch the tree columns and relax in the nests. It's enrichment for cats that live indoor only>>4524228Probably if the kitten was weak and sick. She might have eaten it even. Try to search the surroundings, if it's alive you should hear it call for the mom and siblings
>>4524246It could be anything from a minor temporary issue to an invisible disease or pain in a part of her body. I mean you can try to guess, but only a vet with a visit or exams can identify the problem. I hope she gets better soon.
>>4524290Hitler cat gased the chosen dog.
>>4524363I gave her more water with a syringe and she threw up some food promptly after. She also went to the litter box and had like half diarrhea half solid and smelled foul. I ended up dropping her off at the vet after that.
>>4524009It's hard to pass when they don't even check their fucking inbox to see if you sent the forms. I bought from a breeder too after applying to 4 or 5 shelters, the price is irrelevant when they are going to cost like 3-4k each in their first year anyway (vet including neutering, toys/furniture, supplies, food, litter etc).
I keep my kitten hanging on my chest so that he could always be with me.
>>4524246>>4524363vet said it’s freaking pancreatitis
>>4524582Man I'm sorry, I hope it's something manageable.
>>4523825thank you! fortunately, he took one this morning. i was getting worried because he’s got a respiratory infection on top of everything. all things considered, it looks like he’s been adjusting i think someone just dumped the little guy to avoid paying for pet meds
>>4520386Just did this to a sleepin kitty like 2 hours ago
>>4524316Because they're brothers, and I didn't want them to be lonely while I'm at work.
>>4523555I am bad at DIY this stuff, but I found out cat shelf extensions exist on amazon.>>4523823He is a neutered cat not interested in pussy anymore (no homo).
>>4520683there are no good cat trees on amazon. make your own. I've made climbing poles for my kitties using free cardboard tubes (found on craigslist), free carpet scraps, wood, and repurposed screws and other hardware from old discarded cat trees. most cat trees seem sized for kittens and my boys grow big and need bigger platforms
>>4520802make a high pitched cry to show him you're hurting, try to show him an alternative (why is he climbing your leg? can you just pick him up instead before he gets to that point?)
>>4521935>cats are all very similar in terms of behaviornot necessarily. You can have high energy smart cats that get into trouble, low energy cats that don't even want to play, you can have highly dependent cats who want to sleep on you every night, you can have super independent cats who don't want to be held at all, cats that love dogs, cats that fear dogs, cats that will attack dogs on sight, cats that like other cats, cats that hate other cats, cats that love bird poop, cats that will eat anything, cats that would rather starve than eat anything other than their 1 food, cats that are gregarious, cats that are shy, cats that ride your shoulders, cats that can walk on lead. They just aren't bread for behavior predictability as much like dogs (and I hope they never are)
>>4521993where the hell are you getting this information? this is all 100% false
>>4522087cooked dirt. it's free, it clumps, your cat will like it best, it's natural
>>4524679he wants non stop attention
>>4523997Yes, if the cat is dehydrated or stressed it can make it worse. You also need to make sure you're brushing the cat, depending on the length and type of coat. Short haired cats shed more than long haired ones, because the hair itself is shorter and takes less time to get to the stage where it drops and a new hair grows in.
>>4523997I've googled the issue, it says you the owner have terminal cancer.
>>4524687Put him on your shoulder and let him ride around up there.
A year ago I took my aunt's "trouble" cat since I live alone and just lost my dog to him being old. She upset my aunt by catching songbirds and shitting everywhere. I noticed she is a touch-me-not and likes being left alone so I left her alone. I noticed she loves to chase things, so I made a dish spounge on a string for her to catch, so we play for 20 minutes in the morning and 10 in the evening. That's it. She is alone for 9 hours each working day, even then she barely uses the litter box. Usually holds her shits in for when I come home at night, trotts around our garden showing me how good she is at scratching the shit out of tree barks. I think I am a cat person but never knew it. I get the strangest joy seeing my little tabby buddy waiting on the window ledge at 5pm each day.
>>4524880If you were an Orthodox saint the cat would obey you and help you with any intersectionality you pursued. The only way to uplift animals is by transferring our energies, and unless they're Divine energies that go through us it's ineffective and they still die and cease to exist.
>>4524905intentionality* not intersectionality lol
>>4524834>Short haired cats shed more than long haired onesThey might shed more often or faster, but definitely not more hair. Also depends on breed, many shorthair cats barely shed at all.
I don't think I could have named my cat more appropriately. He's Beerus, and he really acts like the God of Destruction. The worst part is that he will try and eat literally anything. I try to open the fridge or freezer, he's immediately there and tries to leap inside. I open the door to the trash can, he's immediately there. Open a cabinet, he's immediately there. Try to cook or eat anything, he's immediately there. It's gotten to the point where I even had to put childproof locks on my kitchen cabinets since he figured out how to open them and get in there on his own. I don't know what to do. I've tried a spray bottle, but he won't get the hint.
Is it normal that your cat changes personality after the other one dies? I had 2 cats, but one of them died about a month ago, now the other one has changed quite a bit. She never slept in my bed at night, or was at all very cuddly or needed attention. Now she sleeps in my bed, and even on top of me which has NEVER happened before. She wants a lot more attention now and cuddles as much as possible when i'm home. It's nice i just find it odd how it's pretty much a completely different cat. pic related is said cat making biscuits on top of me at 1am
My cat is in DKA for the second time this year. This time his creatinine levels are very high. The vet has recommended euthanasia. Is there any way that keeping the treatments going is a good thing? I basically just want him to live forever and I’m scared of being the weak link in his path to recovery and a full life, but I don’t know if I can really justify the costs and likely outcomes (a life as a diabetic cat that routinely goes to the ER).
>>4525272https://catinfo.org/feline-diabetes/
>>4519820>>4520142>>4520975>thought i'd posted>no post to be found>son of ai'm sorry anon. hope you're still lurking. it sounds like she may've had a seizure. the sudden hissing thing - when that happens, does she get a bit wild eyed and turn her head using quick short jerky motions, almost like she's hunting invisible prey?
>>4520802>>4523943>>4524687gib non stop attention. picrelated is the solution for climbing your legs. the solution for needing too much attention was don't get a kitten. he'll find new ways to demand it once he can't climb you anymore. better yet: play with him. like, actually play. not just pet his cute little head while looking at him instead of a screen for 30 seconds. get him moving. get him jumping and tumbling and pouncing and chasing. he will then fuck off and pass out for a short while. it's only non stop attention because boredom doesn't tire him out enough to trigger a nap.
>>4525453You're right I did clip his nails and it worked. I no longer get hurt.I never pet my cat since he doesn't like to be pet, we only play like he's a dog.Even when we sleep he has to run away from me and come later and cuddle where he wants.
My cat has that awful extremely rare dental autoimmune disease and just lost her first fang. She's only around 3.
i'm just venting; feel free to ignorei love cats. i love MY cats. they are two of the sweetest, happiest cats on the planet. but i fucking HATE owning them. i live in an apartment. i have to have four litterboxes because of the insane amount of SHIT they produce, even with daily scooping. my ex girlfriend had cats her whole life and was shocked by the amount these two shit. they also are really weird about throwing their litter everywhere and making my apartment gross. i have to do deep cleaning nearly every day if i want to avoid feeling grossed out by my surroundings. they also are so fucking NEEDY. it's cute that they are so sweet and affectionate. but i HATE that i can't do ANYTHING productively at home without putting them in my bedroom because they follow me everywhere and interfere. they roll on keyboards, chew my papers, push my belongings. if i sit down and turn on the TV, they immediately climb onto the TV stand to block my view and stare at me, and if that doesn't stop me they start smacking the TV. it doesn't matter how many toys i buy them or how much i play with them, it is ceaseless. they operate in shifts so one starts bothering me the moment the other gets tired. they also destroy everything. they scratch up my furniture. they scratch up my clothes. they clog my sinks with hair and tracked litter. they pull and climb my curtains. they knock framed photos off the wall. again, i spend so much money and time on toys and playing with them but it's never enough.i've tried using tape, spray bottles, and foil to keep them off counters and my desk but they don't care. they like noises and water, and REALLY like attention. i hate being at home because of them. but i really do love them and couldn't get rid of them without horrendous guilt. it's a shitty situation.
>>45262194 cats is too much, man. I'd only ever keep 2, and, more likely, only 1. Consider investing into training and better litterboxes.
>>4525514nice, glad to hear you got it resolved.>he doesn't like to be pettopkek i wonder what his plan was for when he finished climbing you. mine simultaneously wants to be pet but wants it to happen without having to actually be touched. they're strange little creatures sometimes.
lol my kitten smelled my vodka and he pulled back making some funny out of sync grimaces with his eyes and face lol
My kitten has a funny fat face, he looks sad all the time due to its shape and his eyebrows are white and aligned in a way that make it look like a sad cartoon face. But when he's excited he keeps his mouth upon and it looks like he's smiling and very happy.

Is there anything that I can do for a stray cat that was hit by a motorcycle? It's limping on one leg. I've been giving it water, food, and tolfenamic acid. I'm too poor to take it to the vet for proper care, is there anything else that can make it more comfy?
>>4526524abandon it at a shelterif it has no hope they'll put it down and it'll be mercifulif it's gonna make it they'll give it better care than you can

Hello /kot/, I just adopted a very cute cat from the shelter (Europe) last month and he's been warning up to us pretty well. The issue we're having is he hates getting in the carrier and doesn't like us enough / trust us / hates being picked up and goes apeshit when we pick him up and go near the carrier (and he trusts us less every time we try). We've bought him a pretty nice airy backpack style carrier thats soft and has big windows. How do we get him used to it?We tried to feed him in the previous carrier but he still hated it.Eventually the goal is to take him outside in it, but he needs to go to the vet first (so get in the carrier). Pic related, mumbles.
>>4526861Majestic kot. Try this - it's very largehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MX4W5MX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
>>4526865It also has a top hatch thats handy for lowering him in through the top instead of shoving him in the front.
>>4526865That looks decent, but the one we got was this:https://mrpeanutspetcarriers.com/collections/airline-approved-pet-carriers/products/mr-peanuts-monterey-series-convertible-backpack-airline-approved-pet-carrierHe doesn't seem to despise it, just doesn't want to go inside it.
>>4526870They never want to go inside it. It's always been a challenge for me. That's why I got the big one, it's easier to get them in without a fight. And if they pee, poop, or puke there's room for them to sit away from it. Yours doesn't look bad, but they'll never love it.
It’s been half a year since I got him and I still hate my cat. He never stops running, biting, destroying everything and meowing. I can’t have people over, I don’t go 5 minutes without having to deal with him. Everything nice I own is now locked away. I hate this stupid cunt but if I give him away I’ll feel like shit for the rest of my life. What do I do? He is 1 year old and neutered. Ive tried training, he doesn’t listen.
>>4526514Give me the original video I am a master of WebM.
>>4527087Then get rid of him. Animal friends aren't a thing, it's a retarded concept.
>>4527087>neuteredthere's your problem
my kot likes having his belly rubbed and is very hard to photograph
>>4520350How do you get your kitten to stop biting? Right now whenever I take her out of her crate to cuddle or play she starts trying to bite after 5 minutes at the most, and I pick her up and toss her back in her crate because I don't know how else to teach her that she can't do that, but then she sits there and cries and mews and acts like she doesn't understand.Does she actually not understand or is she just being a brat? If she doesn't, how do I teach her to stop?>"Hurr durr just don't play with your hand :P"Yea I don't, she attacks it on purpose, as in I watch her eyes go from the toy to my hand and attack it instead.
>>4527248embrace it, it's the most natural way to play with your catjust teach her to not bite hard
>>4527248Depending on the age of the kitten its probably teething. Go to the pet store and look for a medium sized plush dog toy. Introduce this to your cat as something he can bite and scratch to his hearts content. Also >Puts cat in crate >doesn't understand why its aggressive or hostile I think you fundamentally misunderstand the animal.
>>4527213nice void
>>4526861A bigger carrier isn't always better, especially if its for taking it to the vet. When a cat panics it likes to get in a tight spot, if the carrier is too spacious it gives them room to freak the fuck out.
>>4520350
>>4527213Cute!

Gonna have to move soon. I've been reading that you should keep your cat indoors for at least two weeks after moving, anyone know if that's true? My guy likes being outside. There's no neighbors or anything to scare him at the new place, very rural.
>>4527613It'd be better to strictly supervise him the first times he explores the outside of the new territory. If something goes wrong and he feels uncomfortable he may run away. If your garden isn't escape-proofed, get a harness and walk him on a leash for some time.
>>4520350What litter should I be getting?
>>4520389You pspsps'd the wrong gang
>>4527087He is a young cat, a destructive behavior is normal. When it gets extreme it might be related to frustration and not having enough stimuli, in a boring environment. Do you play with him? Does he have toys/furniture?He'll probably calm down within a year, in the meantime do what is possible to redirect his hyperactivity on toys and interactions with you. Also, pheromones (some people say they work). You could think of getting second cat to give him a companion, that goes without saying that you have to choose one that goes along with the other cats.
>>4527087He's an indoor cat isn't heCats are supposed to be outside doing cat things, if he's indoors he'll just become frustrated and angry, in the same way that a dog who never gets taken for walks will bark all day. You can mitigate it by always playing with him and buying toys, but it's not the same thing. If you can't let the cat live a cat life then give him away to someone who can, it will be better for you and for the cat.
>>4526524Just start a go fund me as the other anon said, post it on reddit, you'll get the money in no time
>>4527624Biodegradable clumping litter for easier management.
>>4527635Best brand?
>>4527664I change from time to time, my cats have no problem adapting to different types of litters.Speaking from personal experience: Cat's best, Biokat and Croci. All are all good. Not sure if they're available where you live.
My cat has separation anxiety. When my dad takes the dog out to visit his brother the cat gets very upset. She yowls at me and occasionally hisses for no reason. She also gets quite clingy. What should I do to mitigate this behavior? I already bought a laser pointer, some catnip-filled stuffed mice, and a cat wand with a dangly thing on the end. The intention is to set aside some time every day to play with her. Idk if that will work though. Please advise me.
my cat's 3 kittens vanished overnight without a trace. i figured she moved them but i checked every place i can think of and there's no sign. she doesn't seem to know where they are either. they're barely a week old. where'd they go bros
>>4528052She left them for dead, most likely. Not uncommon if the mother is stressed for some reason.
>>4528056that's fucked, is there a name for this phenomen? i've never heard of it before. she didn't seem stressed to me but right now she's just hanging out like nothing happened, stark contrast to the last week where she's spent basically every waking moment nursing so it seems believable
>>4528060>is there a name for this phenomen? Infanticide. Humans (and most animals) do that too, which is why people don’t leave mothers alone with their children during the puerperal state. Sometimes it doesn’t have a clear cause. I raise 3 cockatiels that were being killed by their mother immediately after hatching before the previous owner intervened and separated them. They have mangled feet and a broken spine. But with cats, I don’t think they actively kill them. The mother just takes the kittens and leaves them somewhere to die. There is still chance that they are alive. Look around your house, maybe on the ceiling or under the floor, and you might just find them. I remember there was a thread in this board about an anon who randomly found a litter of kittens in his roof. But I think they died.
>>4528131yeah they're alright. she hid them behind the drawers in a bureau. i thought i looked thoroughly enough because i know how sneaky cats can be but apparently not
>>4528146They are alright for now. But if she's not taking care of them anymore then you have a serious problem

yo, i work from home and want to get a cat, like a chill friendly cat. pet smart seems to have a link to alot of local cat adoption places . im stuck in an apartmenet so it may suck for a while, but i want to get a place near the woods so it can roam free and hunt

>>4528957Please don't get a cat to let out and murder local songbirds. Just actually take care of it and play with it daily. You can even harness train a cat to be taken out with a leash or just take it out under supervision. Eating wildlife is also how cats contract lots of nasty diseases and letting your cat outside will vastly reduce it's lifespan since it's likely to get eaten by a predator or hit by a car.
I just found a flea on my cat. It's midnight so nowhere is open, but is there anything I can do before I go and get flea stuff in the morning?
>>4529543>persiansAbsolutely no. They're usually lazy and not very inquisitive.>bengalsYes. They are one of the best cat breeds you can get but only if you can regularly spend time with them. Otherwise they WILL fuck up your house.

When my kitten wants to bite me I just pass him fruits and he stops.
I boop my kitten on the nose
>>4529810>>4529895So I got into the vet today. Vet put spot treatment on her and said to use a spot treatment monthly (recommended Advocate or Revolution) for a year, but can keep it ongoing, and then gave me Pred-X to help soothe the itching until it kicks in.She also said it's almost impossible to kill flea eggs, so just use the spot treatment to kill the fleas as they hatch and eventually after a year you should be safe, but flea powders/bombs/baths don't really work that well since they can't kill eggs. She was pretty nice though. Said I shouldn't have to come in again.
God bless him, he thinks he's sneaky.

Every once in a while if my mom is staying someplace overnight and I'm working my cat will be left home alone all night and he basically does exactly what you said when I get home.
Should I be playing with my kitten before every meal? I’ve been doing a long session before his last meal at least.
How long did it take you guys to get over the loss of a cat? My 14 year old cat had to be put down 3 months ago and I still dream about her and on the weekends i do breakdown and cry still with how empty my apartment is since the only constant in my life was literally just me and her for the past 14 years
>>4531095>and cry still with how empty my apartment is since the only constant in my life was literally just me and her for the past 14 yearsSounds like you need something else. Either get another cat, or find a girlfriend. I know you probably don't want to "replace" them, but clearly you can't just live alone either.

I had to go to work after picking up my cat after sprayingI wish I could spend a couple of hours with her to at least make sure the cat is not high as balls
>>4531766being high as balls is important for the first day, makes it less likely that they get out of the cone and lick their stitches
>>4531766You could have avoided this by not spaying her.
>>4531773Vets told me no issue in letting the cat lick her wounds, the cat was allegedly stiched from the inside with strings that are absorbed by the body (?)I trust them since i have been visiting them for almost 20 years >>4531774I lost my prior cat to ovarian cancer, I don't want to go through this again
>>4531717Fuck, he scurried into a crowded part of the house, what do I do? Get food out and wait for him to feel hungry?
bros I was outside and it's currently storming and there was a kitten huddled in to a corner shaking in front of my neighbors door, I didn't really want to leave him with the way the water gets around here so I approached him and he didn't dart off, so I went inside and got some of my cats food and came bac he kind of just ignored it and kept staring at me, I eventually picked him up with only a minor scratch I went around to my neighbors that were home but none of them said they owned him, Have him in a carrier and I'm taking him to get scanned for a microchip in a bit but if he ends up just being a feral cat what's the best way to get him adopted? I don't really know if my cat would get along with a tiny kitten and there are some niggers with a violent as shit pit that they let roam around that I'm afraid would actually eat him (city has yet to do anything about it because they're afraid of messing with niggers)
>>4531825>>4531717Put the kitten and all the necessary stuff in one room; he will get familiar gradually with the rest of the house later. He will come out from his hiding places when he feels like it, do not force him. Don't worry if he's spooked the first days, it's normal.Put food bowl (with food appropriate for his age) and water bowl near his hiding place. He'll come out to eat eventually. Place the litter box in the designated room too. He needs to have easy access to all the basic stuff until he's comfortable enough to walk around the house. If he pees/poops irregularily in the first couple days that is also normal, but call a vet if it's taking too long. If he doesn't want to drink, use a needleless syringe and give him water yourself. If you still want to spend time with him, wave a wand toy or something like that to attract his attention, let him build up courage and make the first step.
>>4531948Are there no-kill shelters? Volunteers near to you that can take care of the kitten? Foster and post an adoption ad online?Remember to always do a double check of the area where you found the kitten, he might have siblings and a mom searching for him.
>>4531949Too late, now I have to treat him like a feral that took up residence in my own house. I'll have to leave food/water out and hopefully he'll relax soon enough, right?
Kitty took over my pillow now I need to get a new one for myself
>>4531953Never really seen any stray cats around here, vet said he didn't have a microchip and I went and knocked on every door in my apartment asking if anyone had lost him or seen any other stray cats in the area, everyone said no, going to make a post on my apartments social media thing just as wellThe vet said he looked healthy (but that he wouldn't guarantee anything from a quick exam and to get him shots if I plan to keep him) just scared, going to give it until this weekend I guess, if no one claims him and my cat starts to get along with him (keeping them in separate rooms for now) I may end up keeping him since my cat is only just now a year old, if they don't get along then I'll take him to the place I adopted my cat from which was a no kill shelter, it's just a bit out of the way from where I live now
>>4531984>Walked into the room and turned on the light to see a cat running awayAt least I know that works
hey bros, sorry to bring the mood down but my cat is on her last legs and id like to get any opinions on when to make the euth call. a couple of days ago she had a hypertensive crisis (guess who has kidney failure? they staged it as mild/moderate but it probably only looked ok because her blood pressure was off the charts, now that im bringing her bp down i imagine itll get a lot worse. can smell that she has a lot of protein in her urine already) which resulted in hyphema (eye totally occuled) and probably bilateral retinal detachment as she has lost all vision and no longer has a menace response or any lens dilation/constriction in the eye without hyphema. shes doing alright, has mild pain from a corneal ulcer she got from scratching at the bad eye when the hyphema first occurred but im managing with lubricating drops. bp is being managed with oral amlodipine which she is responding to. shes trepidatious from the blindness but can find her way to water/her litterbox and is toiletting normally. has even jumped on furniture a couple times. i think her vision was already poor, she has obvious cataracts. her appetite is poor but shes still eating a little. i imagine itll become clearer over the next few days what i have to do, but i was wondering if any anons had any advice given this little background, or any experience with this sort of scenario.my dog was an easier call, she declined rapidly over a couple days with no diagnosis- just stopped getting up or eating so it made sense. i dont know if i could euth my cat now, she seems to be still having happy times lying in the sun or curling up with me while i work or eating the bits of meat i cook for her. but i dont know if thats just m own selfishness in not wanting to let her go. be real with me bros. sorry again for long sad post

>>4532191Sort of going off of this, but I was considering getting another cat, but I am worried about my current cat with hit. She's nearly 5 years old, and pretty much been the lone cat and an inside cat her whole life. I did once stay at a house with her brother from the same litter when she was 2, and they avoided each other for the first 5 days but would then start getting inquisitive and looking at each other from afar, and then playing with each other.Would a kitten be better since then my cat would be the dominant by default, or would an older cat be better? Or is my cat just too old to get a new friend.
>>4532207>since then my cat would be the dominant by defaultThat's actually kind of what I'm worried about though desu, this kitten is still tiny, my cat is a pretty big guy I'm afraid he would hurt whether on purpose or accident, he was adopted alone (not on purpose actually, he was literally the only cat left at the shelter I got him at) and I haven't had any other cats around him reallyTo get off my own blog though, in your case if your cat was at least semi socialized around others I'd imagine they'd be fine you'd probably just have to introduce them slowly

She disappeared 2 weeks from christmas and I found out after finals because my phone broke and I hadn't repaired it. Was really upset, didn't want to go back home didn't want any christmas shit I Just wanted my dumb cat back. Went looking for her in the woods behind the house and didn't see her but accepted she was gone. Then she showed up that morning (christmas morning) in the cat tree. All because my dumb ass brother didn't want to leave the cat door open because "hurdurr a raccoon might get in" meaning there had to be a perfect timing of the cat and someone looking for her being there. That was ~10 years ago so she's 11-ish now. I got her for 11 years when I could have just had her for one, so I'll be grateful for that. She's a really nice and affectionate cat, best pet I've had. Though my meaner cat growing up was more considerate - when I was a lil 12 year old crying over something home alone that mean cat ran over meowing up a storm butting her head up against me until I calmed down. The last time my current cat saw me crying she kinda just didn't know what to do. But she's sweet in her selfishness and clinginess. blogpost over.
Had a missed call from my mother this morning while I was in the shower. I knew immediately what it was about - one of her 4 cats died suddenly in the night. Seems like she had a heart attack. She was 9, really small and very sweet and affectionate with a playful character, and she never let any of the others push her around although she only weighed 4lbs. She used to sleep next to my mom every night. I bought one of those long strings on a wand that you can attach toys to, and she would chase it until she couldn't stand up. If she heard any of the boys being brushed she'd barge into the action and push them out of the way. I had been looking forward to a visit and was thinking about the little cat last night. That's all really. I'm going to miss her.

>>4526219My gf wants us to get a cat but it's posts like this which really make me hesitant. I would hate to feel trapped by a pet like that.Do you ever let them outdoors?
>>4528131How can you raise cockatiels with a broken spine? Can they still move?
>>4532722>a catNever. Even if that post makes you scared, never get just one cat. Get two, ideally from the same litter.
>>4532726Why not?Cat would be allowed outdoors so can't really see loneliness being a problem. Aren't they mostly solitary anyway?
>>4532734If nothing else, did you not read that post? Cats being solitary is a meme.
>>4532736They're not dogs. Solitary cats (especially females) can be perfectly happy provided they have access to the outdoors. If they're indoor I agree you need two or more.Don't think that is particularly controversial?
>>4532740They can be perfectly happy alone so long as you outsource the work of them interacting with other cats to someone else, you mean.
>>4532743It's not "work" for cats to interact with each other, they either do or they don't, depending on whether they want to, and it's basically no effort for either owner. What a bizarre way to think about it.
>>4532752Don't be lazy.
>>4532740Indoor is fine if they have company, let them outdoors don't whine when they don't come back or end up dead due to predators, cars or sickos
got the cats to take meds without a hassle today \o/
>>4532705Sending power!
I have 0 experience with animals. My mum found a kitten and asked me if I want to keep it. What resources would you suggest to learn how to take care of a cat?
>>4533099Watch Jackson Galaxy videos for the basic stuff, he is a good teacher for normalfags approaching cats for the first time.My advices:Take the kitten to the vet asap to do a routine check up, deworming and first vaccine.Kitten will have to be neutered/spayed at 6 months of age. If you plan to make it an outdoor cat don't wait too long, the risk for the cat to run away to mate is real.Set up a room for the kitten where it will stay for the first weeks until familiar with the rest of the house, then you can move bowls and litter box where preferred.Just like dogs, cats too need to play daily and be stimulated especially as they get older; enrich your environment, get a cat tree, scratching posts and toys, play with your cat every day for a minimum of 20 minutes.Owning a pet is a lifetime commitment, think carefully before adopting. If you are not responsible enough and not ready to provide it the best life possible, giving up at the first problem, don't do it. Fostering and rehoming it is also an option.
>>4533109Forgot to talk of the food part: kittens eat kitten food. Also they eat like a fucking t.rex because they grow a lot in those first months of their life and need. It is when you switch to adult food, that you'll start to calculate their daily intake of food. Whether you go with a wet food or dry food diet, opt for good quality brands, not cheap stuff – it might be convenient at first, but the low quality ingredients will cause from diarrhea to allegies and worse.Look up how to read cat food labels, and learn what ingredients should be avoided.
This might be slightly /diy/ so I might ask there, but has anyone ever built their own cat-tree thing? I've been on a woodwork kick and built all my shelves I need, and was in a pet store the other day and saw how expensive they were for such shit quality. It'd just be fabric over pine or something right? I could probably design something decent with twine and hammocks and stuff.
Feed my kitten wet food and now he starves himself while playing non stop, ignoring the dried one he use to eat all the time.
>>4533135Not done it myself but there is a book called Catification and if you search for that there are a lot of nice projects out there
>>4533109>Kitten will have to be neutered/spayed at 6 months of age.unnecessary if indoor and probably better for their health
>>4533230unless you like a retarded cat that's angry all the time and cums on every square cm of your house with foul jizz you better neuter it.
>>4533264>unless you like a retarded cat that's angry all the timemy cat's kinda stupid but he's not angry>and cums on every square cm of your house with foul jizzthat sounds like more of a dogfag problem, cats don't even cum half a ml and it doesn't smell like anythingand my cat doesn't hump anything, i wish he was as horny as you say intact cats are
>>4533276cope seethe and dilate
>>4533278i'm not the one that needlessly feminized my cat
>>4533230You probably think declawing is fine though, am I right? That's how third worlders' brain works.Spaying and neutering is safe and is beneficial for every cat, retard.
>>4533282declawing is a white woman thing for owners that care more about the well-being of furniture than petswhere is any of this shit coming from

Hypothetical: if you have a cat that lost its sole bonded partner to death, and you wanted to replace it with a new cat so the old one doesn't get lonely, would a 7 month old that belongs to a large group of cats be a viable candidate? Would it be cruel to take that cat away from its group to put with the other cat? How emotionally bonded would it be with the group at that age?
>>4533188Been almost 24 hours and he's full of energy and still hasn't eaten.
>>4532191Well it's been nearly 3 days, my cat is now getting along with the kitten and on and off playing, he is still mad at me though, when I go to touch him at all he hisses instantly, earlier he was even panting like he was distressed (at me touching him) but then instantly went back to playing with the kitten once I got some distance, any idea how long it might take him to go back to normal or anything I can get him to make him more comfortable? I've been giving him treats when he lets me get close, I've considered getting one of those diffusers but I had one when he was a kitten that seemed to do nothing and he's also not affected by stuff like catnip so I'm not sure how effective any of that would be
>>>/mu/116631661
Should I get a cat if I work full time and live alone? I also would be away from my home at least 1 day of the week.
>>4533449Mix the dry with the wet food.
>>4533519I gave him wet food and he ate it all.So at least I know he's not sick.Could he have a broken tooth or is he just a faggot.I'm going to feed him only wet food from now on or do a 60-40dry mix as you suggest.I read that if they don't drink enough water they have longtime kidney problems and I don't know how much is enough for a kitten, better safe than sorry.
>>4532716>>4533060Vet confirmed the liver shutdown and she's probably not gonna make it.The fact she's in her carrier feels more of a confirmation than anything, the only times she stayed there were the few times she got injured or sick, she hasn't left it since we came back.Goddammit Anons, why?
It's been 5 weeks since a feral cat shed her belly but I still haven't seen her kittens. She keeps returning to the same crawlspace after I feed her but I never see them when I check. Are there any tips or signs to help confirm their existence?Meanwhile two blocks away I constantly see kittens but I really don't believe they are hers. She never enters that space and another cat nurses them and stays with them.
>>4533562Wet food only is fine. Better, even.
>>4533609Damn it. Sucks that this is happening, but you should be there with your cat, whatever you decide to do.
>>4532705>>4532716>>4533060Cringe.I pray that God helps y'all out to not be faggots and wake up to reality.
>kittens are running around>grab one>limpPhew, good thing I got ragdolls!
>>4533230Kek
>>4533489No, two cats maybe so they can keep each other company while you are gone
>>4533659Post pics
>>4533636For sure will do.
moved in with my gf, now one of our 4 cats is pissing on things outside of the litter boxhow do i get him/her to stop
>>4533714get rid of the hole
cat is crying because of paincat is very insistent that painkillers are yucky and will claw the fuck out of me if I bring that damn syringe where she can smell it again
>>4533721mix it into his food
>>4533629They're probably still too young to come out yet and she's hiding them well? No idea.
>>4533714Are the cats all fixed? How many litter boxes do you have? There should be one for each cat. It's probably something related to leaving its scent in the new house and claiming it as its own.Remove the urine with an enzyme cleaner or the cat will keep peeing on the same spots.>>4533721Small meatball of wet food with the medicine inside, force feed her if necessary, there's no other way.
>>4533429At that age a cat is ready to separate from its siblings and live by itself, so I guess it wouldn't be too bad to take it. In your case you're going to give that cat a new friend, your own cat, and the group of cats it belongs to will simply have one less member. It can't be that negative.>>4533465So your cat plays with the kitten but is mad at you? KekIt's impossible to predict when and if your cat will completely accept the situation. Be sure not to neglect him, pamper him.>>4533609This sucks, sorry anon. Make the choice that's best for her.
Why does my cat like to wander around and meow sometimes? I know it's not directed at me.
Have they made reverse declawing surgery yet?
>>4533857I'm really on the fence... I want to believe she's still got it in her, she sometimes drinks a tiny bit and she can ingest very soft/liquid foods with the help of a syringe, but she's skin on bones and can barely walk straight, her purrs sound tired.
My old cat has arthritis and he's been sleeping a lot recently. What can I do to help him?
>>4533968Check if he has troubles going in the litter box, get one with a lower entrance if his current one has high walls. If he likes to jump on high places, find a way to facilitate the jumps.Brush his fur often.
>>4533956>every vet is unavailable>every vet clinic is packedFuck me, is she really supposed to go through the night on basis of syringe administered water and feed?
>>4534064Anon, call a 24 hours service clinic. Let her go.
>>4534069I did, they all said they couldn't do any consults until tomorrow noon or later.I just hope the hormonal injection from the previous vet kicks in somehow.
>>4529801Where do you live that birds can get decimated by cats so easilyI have 3 cats who live both in and outside, many cats in the neighborhood, and yet there are still dozens of birds singing their heart out from sun up to sun down
>>4534081Everywhere. Thank God coyotes are coming around to cull them.
>>4531948About the shitbull... C5H12O5 meatball in its usual path and the problem is solved
>>4533848I'm putting a camera under there to hopefully capture them instead of returning over and over to the crawlspace under someone's window like a creep.
>>4534088Looks like you would need 2g or more to kill a pit bull, which would fuck up the taste. Don’t think it would work
