>>4481401>gets appendix removed so she wouldn't get appendicitis up on a mountainackshually, i thought the appendicitis thing was just an excuse from leakey. he just wanted to test if she was committed enough to study orangutans by asking that she had her appendix removed. there wasn’t any actual risk of appendicitis. madlad did it for the shits and giggles.
>>4482240>orangutansgod damn i had pongos on the mind!!! obviously i meant gorillas
>>4482240yes it was a test (he also send her first to Jane Gooodall's mother and later direct to Jane for further testing)Fun thing is that Leakey was obsessed with Dian and wrote her love letter every weak>His love letters, which Dian kept with her mementos, read like a teenager’s: “I love you,” he wrote her in his almost unintelligible, sprawling scrawl, “quite simply, deeply, whether you are miles and miles away or very, very close.”>“It was lovely just seeing you,” he wrote Dian. “Even briefly and knowing that you do love as I can do deeply love you. . . . I feel we belong and so I was very very happy.”

can you believe some motherfuckers have the nerve to claim that BOSF is a fraudulent organization made of poachers?
>>4482900top left looks like she needs to lay off the nanners for a while
Me and my father sat down one evening some days ago and watched Orangutan Jungle School. He was generally pissed because he found the orangutans to be interesting creatures but kept getting sad about the loss of their environment. Then we watched a World War Two documentary later that evening that showed rather graphic images and video of corpses from battles, which he showed a a far lesser reaction to in comparison (he doesn’t really look at gory content all too often). Due to this contrast in reaction, I think I pongopilled him.

Pongobros, is it a pipedream to want Rambo along with her friends transported to a legit sanctuary? Them being in the wild is impossible, but anything is better than... this. Look at the little shit treating her with absolutely no respect, goddamn.
>>4513571Yeah, I hope the little guy gets reunited with his momma soon. I'm glad zoos in the US step in when something's not right. In Europe they just sort of let them die if they can't suckle properly.
>>4513779Even a zoo would be better than this
>>4476385i really really like the fact that orangutans being orange and having a name that sounds like orange is just a coincidence

>>4513960Found this old video browsing through the Sheikha's IG account and fuck, just look at these pongos. Even though they were clothed back then, there they were, still playing like children, seeming almost happy. Just look at this. Rambo's now obese, Freddie & Prince are becoming manchildren, Rosie is pushing some old fuck's wheelchair while walking bipedally, and now Benji is doomed to become the new Rambo.
there's something about them that breaks my heart. the opposite with chimpanzees where I feel rage
>>4476385I really like the orange people
>Orangutan Keagan is our superhero babysitter for Cahaya! Not only is Keagan a babysitter, but she is also Cahaya's aunt. She does a wonderful job taking care of the little one so Cahaya's mom, Sunshine can get a little downtime. One of Kegan's all time favorite enrichment items is board books or magazines. She actually will sit and “read” them to Cahaya by pointing to all of the pictures and vocalizing as Cahaya watches. The two of them will sit like that for hours together!

happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful pongo moms like oshine and sunshine :]
>>4515897I only wish Rambo could be a good mother to Benji, like she should've been. But no, they keep seperating them, dressing Rambo up like some middle-aged auntie, making her feed Benji through a baby bottle(!). Frankly I'd be surprised if she still actually remembers Benji is her own child, as constant seperation is bound to do some serious psychological damage.
>>4515960sushine gave birth to three babies but didn’t have the opportunity to raise any of them until cahaya was born (a happy accident). i hope rambo and benji get rescued someday and have a happy ending like sunshine and oshine.
>>4516154I can only hope you're right anon, but there's a fat chance rich assholes will just give them up.
>>4492159I couldn't bare to watch all the way through but what the fuck going on in the comments?
>>4516382The video's posted presumably from a poaching camp, with the orphaned baby orangutan screaming in fear, sheer distrust in humans. And the comments? What you see here is a subset of monkeyfuckers who set their eyes on baby orangutans. These comments are very reminiscent to those you'd see under the "Million Pity" videos, and that's exactly why I'm against this shit.To be clear, I don't give a shit about the macaques all that much. I don't hate them, but I don't love them either. It's the torture that makes the monkeyfuckers complete and utter subhumans, and I have no doubt in my mind anymore that one of these freaks will request one of these videos starring a baby orangutan instead. Complete and utter filth.
>>4516527You definitely don't NEED to like macaques to hate animals getting tortured. I despise deer, but I would kick the shit out of someone if I found out they tortured them for fun. It's just disgusting.

>>4476385Which Foundation is better?>Orangutan Foundation International (Founder: Birutė Galdikas)or>Borneo Orangutan Survival FoundationDo they work together?
>>4519426Both are good.If you could only donate to one, you should pick BOSF. They operate Nyaru Menteng and Samboja Lestari, and have generally done more for the Pongo race than anyone. OFI is Birute Galdikas's charity. She doesn't need an introduction, but that doesn't mean she can do no wrong. Camp Leakey is more a necessary evil in a lot of ways, since it allows visitors. Kinda more like Sepilok, which it's hard to say is all good or all bad.Orangutan Outreach is probably the #1 charity you should give to, since they (its actuallt just one guy) split the money very well between the best organizations and take basically nothing off the top.
>>4519896Thanks for the long, helpful anwer.I read some bad stories about Galdikas yesterday (Reminded me of the demonizing of Fossey)https://www.reddit.com/r/orangutan/comments/gv6nta/a_cesspool_of_buffoonery_birut%C3%A9_galdikas/And National Geographic has dropped Galdikas completely (she was former Poster Girl)So i was a little worried if i could trust her foundation.
>>4519896Orangutan Outreach's only flaw is the dumb jump into the NFT/Cryptosphere, but I did actually exchange few E-mails with its founder, he was a very polite guy.Speaking of, there is one sanctuary that I'd legitimately hesitate to donate to - the Sintang Orangutan Center. As for why? Well, how about you look for yourself?https://redapes.org/projects-partners/sins-of-sintang/statement-by-jaan/
>>4520014I mean, she's still an amazing lady. She's obviously done and continues to do selfless work for orangs, and I'll still absolutely lionize her. Even if some things are a little rough around the edges.I will say there's a concerted effort on social media by known palm oil shills to discredit her entire career because she's one of the few experts who criticise the RSPO. So I'd be wary of anyone who completely trashes her online.

Is it possible to train an orangutan to go to the store for you?
>>4527121there was one pongo in a university that learned the concept of currency, so it's certainly possiblethey'll likely just end up buying cola and ice cream tho
>>4476385I don't like when they try to be too realistic, for the same reason that I'm very wary of biopics - it colours your idea of someone/some animal in a way I'm not often willing to go along with. I'm Irish and Michael Collins was a famous man in Irish history. But when I think of Michael Collins I think of literally Liam Neeson, and his portrayal of Michael Collins in the movie. And how do I know Michael Collins was anything like that. For similar reasons I refuse to watch documentaries depicting Darwin and the like. We have Darwin's writings, that's it, why trust some corporation trying to draw audiences and push a message.
>>4528102speaking of darwin, I don't think enough people talk about how he got the idea to invent evolution after seeing a baby pongo at the zoo and (correctly) deciding it was just a small human.or, not to anthropomorphize, that we are just big pongos.
>>4528102HE
>>4528432anyone who's had to hand-rear a pongo will tell you they start off as just more interesting human babiesthey're the same level of helpless and needy, but their personalities are already shining throughthen they learn how to move around and start breaking all of your books and ashtraysthe same people will tell you the best part of hand-rearing primates is getting rid of them

friends,as i was doing research on the lovely lady jenny, i discovered there was a movie made about her and darwin (creation [2009]). however, i'm having difficulty finding who the orangutan actor was for jenny. i'd be really curious to know where that orangutan is now. does anyone know?
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1369848615000370posting this again for anyone interested in pongo history
>>4530131A reduced crew flew to Thailand to film the scenes with Jenny the orangutan. These scenes were filmed on location in the jungle and at film studios. The orangutans featured in CREATION are legally owned and live in captivity, some being captive born and bred and others rescued. The money from their appearances in entertainment goes back in to enrichment programme for NHPs (Non Human Primates). All the animals featured in CREATION, both exotic and domestic, were sourced and had their welfare protected by one of the most highly regarded animal and primate consultants in the world, Rona Brown.
