petting a tarantula is brave, stupid and cool. i wouldn't ever dare to pet my Ts, don't wanna risk getting hurt or hurting them...but the thought crossed my mind...ngl
>>4466588First time I saw one of the birds on my back lawn do that I thought it was injured, but I guess she was just enjoying the nice weather.
>>4466580Won't that stress out the spider.

>>4466743this just proves how ugly humans can be
>>4466580>>4466594petting arachnids with big fangs is obviously never recommended, but if they're in a good relationship with the human they seem to like a nice massage don't theyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJRorBS5hsAmaybe it's like affection is something they can feel, but normally never have any opportunity to experience, and once they do it's like mindblowing to them
>>4466614Science is going too far.
>>4466947>maybe it's like affection is something they can feel, but normally never have any opportunity to experience, and once they do it's like mindblowing to themThat's sad as fuck
>>4466947I will never believe spiders can feel affection. I've seen videos from those scolopendra lovers. It's not affection with them, it's about predicting the state of fight or flight its in at the moment
>>4467113weird dog
>>4467141wow hes just like me
>>4467138Didn't know apes also kiss as a sign of affection. Now that I think of it, is it a universal thing for humans in every society and tribe and shit?
>>4466614
>>4466613Depends on the spider and the relationship. Spiders learn and remember people, and some spiders are quick to learn when they aren't in danger. Some don't mind being handled, some seem to enjoy it, and some just rather be left alone.
>>4467134It's incredible how much larger worms were back when oxygen levels were higher and gravity was lower.
>>4467134Where are the air sacks?
>>4467176Deflated while in combatBut internal airsacs are also present with in both birds and dinosaur
>>4466614Is this not a Maine Coon?
>>4467136>I've seen videos...>....of centipedes You are aware that you can't really compare myriapods to arachnids just because they are both arthropods. But it is true affection is almost certainly the wrong word for whatever the bond is that a spider can form with a person. There is still something there though, whatever it actually is. Keep a few spiders and you'll see what I mean eventually
>>4467108cute
>>4467134>my last two braincells discussing my latest fetish (stinky feet)
>>4466947Spiders don't have even brains, just a nerve-ganglion. They're basically glorified mouse-traps. I very much doubt they can really 'feel' anything at all, it's just stimulus = response. they're not really adapted to being having their tummies tickled, so they don't have a pre-prepared reaction to it and therefore just do nothing, like a vidya N.P.C. when you do something they're not programmed for.
>>4467245little mouse hands wrote this post.
>>4466580I get petting a tarantula that likes you, but fondling it's belly right under its fangs is the animal equivalent to caressing the trigger in a bear trap
>>4467162She isn't "kissing" it like humans do, she is cleaning it's face with her tongue/lips, which is still a sign of affection for most animals anyway. It's probably what eventually evolved into the act of "kissing" for humans.
>>4467245What about jumping spiders that show clear signs of advanced cognition, such as planning/executing, and mating rituals?https://youtu.be/G1BEWN3mgBk
>>4467325A scrimbly scrumbler!
>>4467375That anon is just wrong, spiders do have sizeable brains. Jumping spiders, from what I remember too, are considered some of the smartest arthropods to exist.
>>4467245i very much doubt you can feel anything at all
>>4467397they are just npcs they cant feel anything tee hee squash squash
>>4467425These're some impressive NPCs then, anon.>"All members of Portia have instinctive hunting tactics for their most common prey, but can improvise by trial and error against unfamiliar prey or in unfamiliar situations, and then remember the new approach.">"They are capable of trying out a behavior to obtain feedback regarding success or failure, and they can plan ahead (as it seems from their detouring behavior).">"Such detours may take up to an hour,[12] and a Portia usually picks the best route even if it needs to walk past an incorrect route."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portia_(spider)

>>4467461you have good taste in spooders :)
>>4467471Thank you, anon. I wish I had some stuff in webm form(I should probably just make my own at some point). Have another one.
>>4467474I get lots of jumping spiders in my room and sometimes they chase my cursor around when they get on my laptop, it's super cuteshould take a vid some time ehe
>>4467481That'd be some good stuff if you can get video of it. I know they love to chase laser pointers just like cats do.
>>4467482oh that's awesome I didn't know they did that tooI'd be afraid of accidentally blinding em though
>>4467485Well if their eyes are anything like ogre-faced spiders' then they should be able to regenerate any damaged cells in their eyes. Which reminds me, ogre-faced spiders are(as far as I know) the only spiders who use their webs as an active means of capturing prey and could be argued as a form of tool-use(although webs in general could be argued as tool-use).
>>4467488oh yeah that net dropping is really interestingit's really interesting seeing how some species adapt to use their webs in interesting ways, like with the diving bell spider building air pockets underwater to live in
>>4467492We need to genetically engineer chickens with snouts, teeth and tails already. I want dinosaurs to make a return if we all die.>>4467493Yup, all sorts of wonderful things out in nature. Zefrank has a nice, memey video on ogre-faced spiders too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNrF0JbDVc8 . Webspinners are also something you might find neat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_JP3RbJ8zk they make water-proof homes using a similar mechanism to diving spiders to keep them dry.
>>4467495zefrank is great lol I love those videosalso that sounds fascinating, I'm gonna spend today reading about em :D

>>4467478>bridbro can't last more than a few seconds
>>4467506Yup, that's a pretty neat trait the arachnids have from their chelicerate ancestors(who had book gills https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book_lung#Book_gills ) and another chelicerate relative of theirs, the eurypterids(sea scorpions) and horseshoe crabs are known to have, and in the case of the latter, still do make brief trips on land. Hibbertopterus is a particularly neat sea scorpion too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibbertopterus

>>4467702That's one cute rhino iguana. I've heard that they're far less hostile/flighty than green iguanas too.
>>4467325Is this what happens when girls flush their used maxipads down the toilet?
>>4467749No, this is what happens when the sea snails get exposed to the hormones from people's birth control meds. They're putting chemicals into the water that're turning the damn mollusks gay.
Does anyone have any cow webms? I could really go for some cows

>>4466947>but if they're in a good relationship with the humanThere is no relationship with Tarantulas. They are literally incapable of bonding. I keep 3, and everytime i refill the water dish or do some maintenance, i am a dangerous predator to them and get threat poses or they hush inside their hides. You cannot bond with a spider. So, petting them is incredible stupid. Puts you and your Ts in danger.
