Budgie Thread
When my brother and I were little our parents took us to the pet store and we got 2 budgies and we named them Paco and Tweety. They got returned for some reason and dad tells me it's because my brother and I were complaining that they missed their mommies, but I don't believe him.

>>4431799i have 2 budgies both are male but never preen each other. is the preening only between male and female? despite not preening they do make gay kisses and feed each other>>4431901perhaps the definition is "high as fuck"
>>4425155do you guys get looked down upon for owning a budgie? I feel everyone is making fun of me when i take my budgie to the vet. Also hate how budgies and small animals get no proper vet treatment blood testing/xray where i am at. Not sure if that is universal
>>4436813People are retarded and see a budgie like it's a fish. Vets don't like birds because their needs are a lot different than 90% of their clientele (dogs and cats), and smaller birds are especially difficult. Try finding a vet which markets avian care heavily
My sister lied to my father in order to convince him to buy her a Budgie only to never take it out of her cage and scream at it when it's chirping annoyed her. A couple years later she just let the thing go to die in the Arizona summer heat. She was 17 when she got it.
>>4437272wow, 17? From age 6-9 this might have been somehow understandable and just a parenting mistake, but 17 is a complete disaster. Hope you tease her about it sometimes.
>>4436964cute
>>4430893How could they get everyone to pose for the camera like that? Damn.
>>4437861She's a meance. For the first 2 years we had her, everything we had was hers. Our food, her food. On Boxing Day she freaked out, crash landed and banged her head. Since then she's been a lot more timid and reclusive. Only recently she's started regaining her confidence. In a way it's a relief, but it's also very sad.

Why is this parakeet one of the "true parrots"? What is a true parrot at all? This parrolet isn't more of a parrot than a cockatoo. When will they learn?
>>4457965Because budgies are autistic and parrolets are full on retarded

>>4430893>>4461460These are both really impressive. I dread to think how long it took you to arrange them.
Any tips on helping a cagebound budgie get used to his surroundings and want to land on more things? The only way I can get him to stay anywhere except his cage is with millet.
>ask mom to buy me 2 parakeets when I was like 8>we have them in a little cage>they start to mate within a month>tell mom they need more space to fly>mom pays someone to build me a 140cm aviary and also buys me 2 more parakeets because they have more space now>put them pretty names and all>they start to mate like crazy, 4 to 6 eggs on average>have to buy more wooden houses>we have to build an even bigger aviary, 2 meter tall>they keep mating, there's no mating season, they do it all year>50 parakeets to 100 in a year>mom starts to get catch them and selling them to a petshop when I'm in school>keeps the pretty ones that I'l notice if they're gone, and sells the common green ones so that I don't notice>I stopped naming them because there's just so much>after years decide to sells them all>also years later she tells me she was selling some of them behind my back, and I never noticed

>>4461879Isnt it illegal to do back yard breeding? The pet stores around me do not accept cheap burds like budgie but will buy a macaw
>>4462784Btw i think its good for pet store to not buy cheab birds like budgie because that lower the chance of people exploitibg them for mony compared to macaw which is more expensive to breed for an average person
>>4462784Something like that would depend on the country, there's no such thing as illegal yard breeding in mine. Also in my defense, we didn't do it on purpose, we didn't know how horny these birds can get.

Aight, I keep coming back to this thread to look at cute birds. So, how much of a terror are these things? Mind you, I'm fucking terrified of birds for some reason, but lil dudes are too fuckin adorable. So, I went and held a couple, wasn't bad. They didn't bite my eye out or fly off with my glasses. What's the skinny on these guys?
>>4465652They make loud noises constantly and poop over 100 times a day

my budgie died today. I feel so sad but she's in a better place now. She lived for 4 years.Budgies are so hard to be kept alive. :(
>>4439318>everything we had was hers. Our food, her food.same experience for all 3 parakeets of my brother. but I read that's how birds are. they live long enough with you, and see themselves as part of the flock: the flock is eating, bathing, sleeping, flying somewhere (you leave out of the room)

>>4451761I saw some videos of parrots having sex in the wild and I think a lot of the reason he is bouncing around is just so he can maintain his balance better while two birds are on a little branch trying to find the right angle. At least, that's how it looks to me. I saw two cockatoos having sex on top of a traffic light one time in real life (I live in Australia) and the male wasnt shaking around as violently

Once I bought a budgie, I never went back. I have owned many over the past 20 years now.
I am thinking about getting a third budgie. I have two right now, and have had three in the past but the third one ended up passing. Not sure if I should get another again. The two are getting along better than usual and they might be getting too old for another friend.
I've had my budgies for like 1 1/2 years now and they still are afraid of me, refuse to perch, wont go near my hand, etc. I've tried so hard to bond with them and even have them in my room most of the time with me to try and break that barrier but nothing seems to work. why do they hate me? all I dream of is one day being able to hold them. :( I've always respected their space and never tried to forcefully handle them... did i do something wrong?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EnZ0IjC77oI miss my birds, but I still feel bad about having to put them in a cage when I'm not around. I don't like the idea of letting them free fly around the house either and poo everywhere.
Hey guys, I have an 8 year old budgie that's by herself now. I don't really have it in me to get a new bird just so she has a cage mate.Any tips on how I can make things easier for her?

Are there any books or resources online to learn about budgies? Like their anatomy, behavior, how they live in the wild and shit. I want to gain deep understanding about them, not just read a couple of dumbed down articles.
>>4505127because you have established priorities such as a full time job, frinds, family, hobbies, travle ...fitting a budgie inside all that can be frustrating and most likely you do not have the passion for parrots if you reached this far in life without owning onepersonally i do not know any parrot owner who started keeping parrots in late 20s and those who do give up after a couple of years due to life changesi mean after 25 a lot of changes start to happen marriage, kids, moving priorities change and you would not care for the budgie as much anymore unless you are a neet with all the time in the world then ya maby you can get one

>>4499801
My friend is getting rid of his green cheek conure and I told him I might be able to get it off his hands. The thing is I already have budgies and everything I read online says that conures can be very dangerous to budgies. Is there any way to make it work? I mostly let my budgies free roam and I'd intend to let the conure do the same. Anyone here have that combo?
>>4516438about three fitty
>>4451761The cloacas attach, and they attach very hard. This type of bird does not have a penis. It ejaculates almost emediatly after the cloacas connect . What you are seeing is the bird trying to get off, struggling to disconnected.
>>4505137i have been searching...no budgie specific books only "how to take of budgies" books. perhaps a general parrot book would have info on them. or Australian bird books.>>4516553it's fine as long as they don't eat or sleep in the same cage introduce him very slowly tho or the budgies will be the ones kicking his ass lolthere are many guides for introducing new birds follow them
>>4518389Is it safe to let them out at the same time with minimal supervision? I like to let my birds free roam whenever I'm home. I'd never be far but I wouldn't exactly be watching them closely all the time either. From what I've read online people seem to say they can only be let out at the same time with high supervision which implies that either the budgies or the conure would have to be inside their cage the rest of the time and that's not great imo
Bump
>>4516553I have a conure and she's fine with my budgies. As long as they aren't in the same cage. My budgies mostly know when they do something wrong and retreat from the conure when she puffs out her face. One budgie even preens the conure every now and then.
