Budgie Thread
>>
When my brother and I were little our parents took us to the pet store and we got 2 budgies and we named them Paco and Tweety. They got returned for some reason and dad tells me it's because my brother and I were complaining that they missed their mommies, but I don't believe him.

do you guys get looked down upon for owning a budgie? I feel everyone is making fun of me when i take my budgie to the vet. Also hate how budgies and small animals get no proper vet treatment blood testing/xray where i am at. Not sure if that is universal
>>
>>4436813
People are retarded and see a budgie like it's a fish. Vets don't like birds because their needs are a lot different than 90% of their clientele (dogs and cats), and smaller birds are especially difficult. Try finding a vet which markets avian care heavily

My sister lied to my father in order to convince him to buy her a Budgie only to never take it out of her cage and scream at it when it's chirping annoyed her. A couple years later she just let the thing go to die in the Arizona summer heat. She was 17 when she got it.
>>
>>4437272
wow, 17? From age 6-9 this might have been somehow understandable and just a parenting mistake, but 17 is a complete disaster. Hope you tease her about it sometimes.

She's a meance. For the first 2 years we had her, everything we had was hers. Our food, her food.
On Boxing Day she freaked out, crash landed and banged her head. Since then she's been a lot more timid and reclusive. Only recently she's started regaining her confidence.
In a way it's a relief, but it's also very sad.

She has, but she's also become very territorial and moody.
If I put my hand in her cage no matter what the reason, she squawks and tries to bite me. I've read this is quite common with female budgies.
If anyone has any insight into why this is and how to pacify it, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Isnt it illegal to do back yard breeding? The pet stores around me do not accept cheap burds like budgie but will buy a macaw
>>
>>4462784
Btw i think its good for pet store to not buy cheab birds like budgie because that lower the chance of people exploitibg them for mony compared to macaw which is more expensive to breed for an average person
>>
>>4462784
Something like that would depend on the country, there's no such thing as illegal yard breeding in mine.
Also in my defense, we didn't do it on purpose, we didn't know how horny these birds can get.

I saw some videos of parrots having sex in the wild and I think a lot of the reason he is bouncing around is just so he can maintain his balance better while two birds are on a little branch trying to find the right angle. At least, that's how it looks to me. I saw two cockatoos having sex on top of a traffic light one time in real life (I live in Australia) and the male wasnt shaking around as violently

you cannot hold any budgie only hand-fed budgies allow for holding. even those can grow out of it when they become adults.

New toys arr a good sign, maybe something shiny but not a mirror they can get addicted too? Mine love a discoball thing with a bell on it.
>>

>i probably went through every by brand now.
I got a trick
you serve soaked pellets, not solid pellets
soak the pellet with equal amount of water
mix with rusk/egg food/seeds/veggies/etc...what ever your bird loves
mine loves pellet mix with rusk and eggfoood
the soaked pellet stick with her favorite food and she will eat it

my guy is still a seed addict but he gets super exited when i serve the pellet every now and then

Are there any books or resources online to learn about budgies? Like their anatomy, behavior, how they live in the wild and shit. I want to gain deep understanding about them, not just read a couple of dumbed down articles.
>>

because you have established priorities such as a full time job, frinds, family, hobbies, travle ...fitting a budgie inside all that can be frustrating
and most likely you do not have the passion for parrots if you reached this far in life without owning one
personally i do not know any parrot owner who started keeping parrots in late 20s and those who do give up after a couple of years due to life changes
i mean after 25 a lot of changes start to happen marriage, kids, moving priorities change and you would not care for the budgie as much anymore
unless you are a neet with all the time in the world then ya maby you can get one

My friend is getting rid of his green cheek conure and I told him I might be able to get it off his hands.

The thing is I already have budgies and everything I read online says that conures can be very dangerous to budgies.
Is there any way to make it work? I mostly let my budgies free roam and I'd intend to let the conure do the same. Anyone here have that combo?

The cloacas attach, and they attach very hard. This type of bird does not have a penis. It ejaculates almost emediatly after the cloacas connect . What you are seeing is the bird trying to get off, struggling to disconnected.

i have been searching...no budgie specific books only "how to take of budgies" books. perhaps a general parrot book would have info on them. or Australian bird books.
>>4516553
it's fine as long as they don't eat or sleep in the same cage
introduce him very slowly tho or the budgies will be the ones kicking his ass lol
there are many guides for introducing new birds follow them

Is it safe to let them out at the same time with minimal supervision? I like to let my birds free roam whenever I'm home. I'd never be far but I wouldn't exactly be watching them closely all the time either. From what I've read online people seem to say they can only be let out at the same time with high supervision which implies that either the budgies or the conure would have to be inside their cage the rest of the time and that's not great imo

I have a conure and she's fine with my budgies. As long as they aren't in the same cage. My budgies mostly know when they do something wrong and retreat from the conure when she puffs out her face. One budgie even preens the conure every now and then.

the budgies are on the quite side of parrots
they reach around 70db
while other parrots can reach to a 100db
you can download a voice meter app to measure how far your guy can reach

>be me
>be rebonding with my lil blue budgie after the death of his mate of like a decade
>he's playing in my hair
>ok time to go look at this new house my parents may possibly could by if they felt like it
>it's a piece of shit, they didn't like it
>get back home
>lil Bluebird is dead
>I pulled him off my hair too hard and broke his tiny twig legs
>he died on the floor of his cage, his home for ten plus years, alone, in pain, suffocating under his own weight
>flying into walls and ceiling fans didn't deter him. no, only my own grasp, pulling him away from myself in serviance to some fruitless cause, lead to his demise
>I buried him in a tiny Amazon box by the creek thirty feet from the backyard of the much better house my parents bought two blocks away
I'm sorry, Bluebird. I wish I could have let you fly through the trees under which I buried you.

he was old and weak brittle bones and joints. it wasn't your fault. although i don't know how hard you pulled him im sure you did not intend to harm him. its difficult to measure the size of our strength when handling small animals. death is always painful he was at his cage which gave him some semblance of comfort and familiarity as he passed.

Why are their cheeks permanently puffed up?
>>
>>4534975
cute budgie
>>
>>4535319
that how their feathers are arranged. budgie pictures show them relaxed with puffy cheeks. a scared budgie will have flatter cheeks.because flat feathers makes them look skinny and iky for predators. but when relaxing they can look puffed up. its controled by the budgie emotion.

I want a bird, but I'm on the fence between a budgie (or 2), a canary, or a lovebird(or 2). Each birds have pros and cons. I didn't realize how good budgies mimic voices! Does anyone know of good places in Canada to purchase birds online? I live in Newfoundland, and all we have is a pet shop with these sad looking critters... God knows hbowling they've been there or how well kept they are.

nah you can have the most polite quite budgie or a spawn from hell budgie. it depends on the personality and tamed level.
>Canada to purchase birds online?
find local breeders online in social media see if they sell, or search in your local resell websites where people put their unwanted pets for sale.
