Are foxes legal to own as a pet outside of rehabilitation centers in any state? I love them so much.
>>4303902Yes, but please don't. If you want to have foxes on your property, just make it livable for them and offer them food. You don't have to trap them, or deny them their natural rights.

over9000 hours in mspaint
>>4311468It's called a flower *bed* for a reason.
>>4310826>[licking] isn't abnormal behaviourNo, butt it is kinda rare. 99% of the time they just use teeth. I was quoting the results of the Russian experiment btw. Purrhaps licking was given emphasis to further the 'dog narrative' about these foxesOh, another specific trait they mentioned was the wagging tail. Which, however, you already see in interaction between wild foxes in nature, the wagging party usually indicating submissiveness
>>4311616Yes, exactly. The Russians were all sorts of corrupt and evil, and should be treated with distrust for that reason alone. As far as the licking, tail swishes, etc. Yes you are correct that foxes in the wild do interact in this way. It is my personal opinion that many people falsely believed that this was a domestication trait because they had never seen foxes doing it in the wild, which makes sense because to observe foxes in their caring/family mode, you either need remote camera systems or extreme fox-tism. So what they, and what we are seeing is what happens when a fox considers a human(s) to be family, as opposed to suspicious/neutral or hostile. In Vasilisa's case, I will agree that the prominence of the licking behavior is abnormally high. However, I believe this is a learned behavior. The woman who runs the channel said herself that she raised her foxes much differently than most do, so that has to be taken into account. One of her foxes, I forget which, also has quite a few times displayed the more typical bite/mouth rub grooming behavior.

>>4312033 Damn. Take your shit back or 1v1
>>4311925>[...] they had never seen foxes doing it in the wild [...]It's worth noting they only used fur farm foxes in the project. Animals, that lived their entire lives in tiny boxes, spending their days either lying down, defeated; or pacing back and forth to keep the chicken wire floor from digging into their paws. It's been suggested that the project was at least in part created fur the benefit of the fur farm industry, to create a fox more easy to handle. A fur farm fox is obviously knot a wild fox. If the furmer is your point of refurence, any deviation in behaviour gets magnified tenfold. Sure, the people involved were actual (Soviet) zoologists, butt I have no idea how much they knew about 'actual' foxes>VasilisaSomething about her is off. She appears very passive, even almost drugged, in many videos. As a matter in fact, a lot of Russian pet fox videos I've seen over the years have always featured a very passive fox. There's one video in particular that's stuck w/ me, a video I sadly never downloaded and later discovered it had disappeared off of YouTube. In the video, a fox steps out of his dog house (it looked like he was kept as an outdoor fox) and the owner starts to brush him w/ a Furminator sort of brush to remove shed fur. I dokn't remember her saying anything, just brushing the fox. I liked the video because of the ASMR qualities, butt what kinda shadowed the experience (and why it's so embedded in my head) was how passive the fox was. He was just standing there, completely still, his head even hung a little bit like a guilty dog, showing complete submission>One of her foxes, I forget which, also has quite a few times displayed the more typical bite/mouth rub grooming behaviorhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IatKjrEpx0Again Vasilisa? Says in the video above, she taught Alf and Foxie to chew on toys instead

>>4312574I think a large part of it is trauma.Foxes have a massively underestimated intelligence, they are wicked smart. Unfortunately, that also makes them a lot more vulnerable to the same type of emotional damage humans recieve.Vasilisa's story particularly saddens me. I'll retell it quickly here off of memory for those who might not know. Sorry if I get any details wrong, my recollection is not the strongest. She was rescued from a russian fur-farm. She was not super trusting at first, and was sort of feisty (she still is I mean, but not in the same way apparently). One day, she escaped from her enclosure out into the wilds. Some would say that this is only simple instinctual behaviour, but I think that is an oversimplified explanation. She comes back one day (around a month later) in quite poor health, covered from snout to tail in parasites. She was in agony for several days while they were being removed. After that, she reportedly made no further attempts to escape her enclosure.Notably, despite being intact and having been around intact male foxes for years, she never took a mate. She does however "play house" with toys.My interpretation:First, she was born in a fur farm obviously, which is pretty much as close to hell as you can regularly get here on this earth, so she was certainly already traumatized by that. Taking genetic memory into account, there was probably a lot more latent trauma there, too.She was rescued, thankfully. But still it seemed she desired to be free. So, she escaped into the wild. She met other foxes, and presumably their young; she learned/recollected a lot from them, including how to build more advanced tunnel structures, how young should be cared for, and a few other things. She tried her absolute best to survive free and in the wild. She could have went back at any time, but did not until she was dying and covered from snout to tail in parasites.I think something about that whole experience really hurt her in some way.
>>4312907Shit like this is just very very tragic to me.I don't believe any fox should be kept captive unless they absolutely cannot survive independently. Instead, every possible effort should be made to rehabilitate them so they can be safely returned to their homes. That's the only way justice can be found for humanity's horrid crime, I believe. With regards to the "ururutv"/"FFP" foxes, I am glad that at the least they are not mutilated in the way most pets are, and that they are permitted to live at least somewhat dignified lives. I can tell she (forgot her name, the blond woman) really does truly care about her foxes in a way most people don't really seem capable of. I respect that.I hope Alfiq and Foxie are permitted to stay together this winter, their children will surely be beautiful. One last word on furfarm foxes: In regards to the healthy ones, I think a lot of the strange behaviour is due to nurture and environmental problems. The ones with the strongest spirits behave quite normally. The best example of this I can think of off the top of my head is Felix from the Minnesota rescue. He mostly refuses to socialize himself with the other foxes (to the point of learning to scale trees to avoid such) and acts in a way that heavily reminds of "trusting" wild fox behaviour whenever he interacts with staff. I could talk about this stuff for ages but I don't want to flood the thread with bleak shit, so I'll stop here.
>>4312742Could still fit on a single DVD!
