There are bunnies with tails that long?

That seems to be a deluxe bun

I used to use old newspapers from my neighbor to line litter boxes but now no one has any newspaper subscriptions. Are there any good all as a cheap lining absorber?

I was doing a newspaper layer, carefresh and horse bedding pellets. I am thinking about trying to shred up cardboard or something.

Haha yeah she has some weird proportions. We picked her up from a tractor supply, they got her from a local breeder. She is a English cross lop but there might be other things in there. Her tail and ears are huge though, tail is like 4 inches lol

Another sleepy photo
>>
>>4293575
I usually do horse bedding pellets from tractor supply with a layer of hay on top. The pellets are 50 pound bag for 8 bucks, and it's very absorbant. Plus it's cheap enough I can change the litter box every 3 days considering my black lady goes through a gallon every 3-4 days so it has to go somewhere
>>
>>4293575
>Are there any good all as a cheap lining absorber?
store circulars, go in the store and just grab a bunch
>>
>>4293750
also I've used brown paper grocery bags, they're pretty thick so you only need one layer cut to size at a time.
>>
>>4293737
>>4293750
Yeah that's what I've been doing. In my area there's only one free circular that is not on glossy paper.
I haven't tried brown bags though maybe I should.

Anon it's gonna take time. Sit around them. Let them come up to you. Don't try and force love on them.

I started by sitting in a room with mine and a cup of treats near me. They would come up to the treats since they are food driven. I would gently try to pet the face, if they don't like it back off a bit.

However it's a personality thing, one of mine was a nervous and territorial wreck. Now he hops on my chest and asks for pets. My other was a big sweetheart cuddler kissy boy right out the gate.

Photo of my new girl, and my nervous boy who now chins the fuck out of everything. Good luck anon
>>
Look at this long fucking idiot.
>>
>>4296159
You need to build familiarity by being around them, and they'll eventually trust and feel safe.
Making yourself "small" by laying down can help. Don't try to pet or touch them much if they aren't receptive. If you do pet, I start by the sides of their cheeks and come in from the side. Bringing your hand down from the top can be either be interpreted as scary or domineering.
I try to not directly stare at the buns.
Basically I don't want to trigger anything in their prey instinct. Kind of ask yourself if you're behaving like a cat or like a cow would around the rabbit.

Buy a roll of brown (unbleached) craft paper. It’s sold as packing material for super cheap. Use that as the liner and put wood pellets above it. Also the wood pellets sold for heating are the same product as the bedding pellets, but half the price.
>>
>>4296463

They don't smell and they take to litter training well. Their litter does need to be changed more regular than a cat, but their shit is much nicer to deal with since it's hard and dry. Basically like compost. Imo the bad part about rabbits is that they are delicate creatures and get fucked up from tummy aches.

If the fur from a rabbit's tail molts or sheds can it grow back? I thought what I was feeling was the rabbit's penis, which was odd, but it was actually the rabbit's hairless tail. Is this normal and can it grow back?

Not a great idea to mix a bun in with two cats and a doge. You would have had better results having the bun first then getting a puppy/kitten.

Buns are great but so much work. I do a lot to keep them separate from all my animals so they are safe
>>
>>4299094
Congrats on the old man. My wife and I had a sicker rabbit, we had to give him shallow baths and trim his butt hair because he had soft poop and would sit in it all day and not clean himself.

We were only able to do that because he was a very chill rabbit but baths and trimming might be helpful if it isn't too stressful for you. Otherwise baby wipes to help him out when he misses stuff
>>
how do I tame a wild bunny? doesn't seem like I can feed it since it can just look down and eat anywhere
>>
>>4301247
You are not supposed to lol. That being said, you have to do it with babies, I've never seen an adult even get within 10 feet of me without being ready to bolt.

Having a small garden where they will spend time and see you frequently will help, especially if they set up their warren near or in your garden.

Baby buns are so damn cute though, don't have any photos of my buns as tiny babies unfortunately

It's pretty easy. I hold him football style with the clippers on the other hand. I make sure to cut a bit away from the quick so I don't risk it. Sometimes I have someone hold the light for me or hold the fur back if it's the back paws.

I would make posters and spread them around town, I’m sure whoever lost it would be grateful if someone returned their bunny.
It may be the right thing to do to keep it yourself, but there’s a lot of doubt in these situations and it’s unfair to assume anything about the owners.
>>
Is it normal of a rabbit to stop laying down or flopping while shedding? My rabbit used to do those things but only goes loaf mode probably because his fur isn't as thick anymore. Everything else is normal.

Some rabbits are naturally more social than others. If your pic is your rabbit you're in luck, because lops are on average more friendly.

1. spend a lot of time in their area just hanging out
2. bribe them with treats. Obviously you can't ruin their diet, but make them associate you with good things.
3. be very patient

I have a netherland dwarf who is afraid of her own shadow but she'll run up to me for treats and eventually started coming to me for snuggles. I also have a lop that was hand raised and he begs for attention 24/7 and required 0 effort. They all have unique personalities so don't force a rabbit to act a certain way and just be non-threatening and patient. I also advise not picking rabbits up except when you need to. You can make a rabbit tolerate it if you do it often but they don't like it and they'll associate you with something that is scary.
>>
>>4304478
cute!
>>
Stupid question: is picking them up from the ears safe?
>>
>>4314481
No anon, if you wouldn't pick up a baby by the ears, you shouldn't do it to a rabbit either, because they're infinitely more fragile.
>>
>>4314481
it is cruel
>>
How long does it usually take for fur to regrow after shedding/molting?
>>
>>4314675
Might depend on the bun and why/how they are reacting to the weather change. Usually it is a gradual process that works its way down the back of the bun, kind of pushing out the old with the new. If there are patches there might be an issue. I think full on moults are a response to large temperatures/environment swings, but it is just a guess.
