They can feel pain and emotions, why the fuck do you call yourself an animal lover yet kill them as if they're some objects?

i always take spiders outside because they're cool. regardless, the number of people who don't hate and wouldn't kill at least a few specific animals is infinitesimally tiny - for example, how many people would have a moral objection to stepping on a cockroach? who wouldn't swat a wasp? who wouldn't shoot all their neighborhood pitbulls with a suppressed .22 during the middle of the night? not many people
>>
>>3937918
You always just ASSUME (X) does (Y)?
Imo insects are not animals but I do rescue them when possible
Last night I saw the biggest wolf Spider I've seen in my life
It was too big to catch in a cup
I had to get a glass bowl and a piece of white paper
It was so big it scared my German Shepherd
Released it in my marijuana plants
I hope it will catch some pests
I had tried using yellow sticky tape at the bottom of my weed plants but I caught a honey bee and I was unable to remove it from the sticky tape :(
>>
It's sad how small arthropods are granted no rights. Granted, they can be invasive and extermination may be needed, but the fact you can be cruel to them for the sake of it with no repercussions. So wrong. Bugs live in such an unforgiving world
>>
I hear about an entomologist on the radio who got too close to these bugs he worked with until he accidentally mangled one and watched it eat it’s own intestines as it died. Bugs aren’t remotely human, any behavior you see a bug do which a human does also is merely yourself imposing beliefs upon the bug. It wouldn’t care anyways, because it can’t.
>>
The bigger it is, the more likely I am to go out of my way to save its life.

However many idiots screech when they see a lobster being boiled. In fact, Sweden just banned lobster boiling yet it's okay to hurt ants.

i'm gonan say something extremely edgy and be a total sicko here: The reason people are in such total disagreement of how to treat animals of which neurological complexity (such as the lobster arguments, you know what I mean) is because it inevitably brings up the question of what real free agency and free thought is. In the end the human brain is just governed by specific chemicals and eletrical impulses too. It's infinitely more complex than a lobster brain and it's capable of processing much more info in a different way.
In other words, people naturally tend to cope/delude themselves a lot when it comes to stuff like this. It's too close to uncomfortable thoughts about how you as an organism function and how far your individuality and "soul" actually goes. There'll never be consensus on stuff like insect rights because of that

Mosquitoes have caused 50 billion deaths and more from the sickle anemia disorder that was caused by them. They are just virus machine with the ability to feel pain, how much more could you ask for?

And again
>>
>>3938696
Pedophilia is natural sexual selection perverted by inceldom and social pressure that runs counter to what starts out as a healthy and natural preference for young looking adults, which is an evolutionary advantage as young looking people generally stay in their physical prime for longer. Were it not for society shoving big titty bimbos down every man's throat and insisting he's gay if he doesn't get the biggest boner in his life within 5 seconds, most pedophiles would turn out as normal men who just like thin women with smaller breasts. Instead the battering their ego takes makes them take that preference and turn it on people who are presently stupid enough to trick in to sex they *do not have the full psychological facilities for due to being underdeveloped humans*, unaware that they will become retroactively traumatized upon developing those facilities or worse, believing they somehow won't be.

I don't mean to come off as defending pedophiles but I think if we as a society glorified the thin, flat chested, small assed adult woman instead of making a preference for her a thing of shame, there would be far fewer of them.

Insects are machines, their internal life is the bare minimum they need to function. Two spiders meeting, even the same kind, will generally just try to eat eachother. A spider also subsists on other creatures that are just as soulless or in your belief system, has as much intelligence and emotion.

I keep tarantulas, I take good care of them. I keep them because I'm a giant nerd and I just think they are cool. The insects I breed to feed my tarantulas are more social and active than the tarantulas are, and I don't feel bad about those either.
>>
>>3938643
Mosquitoes don't control society
>>
My rule is that the ceiling and the top half of the walls belongs to the spiders and they may live there as they wish, but the bottom half and the floor are mine so if I see spiders there I will either take them outside or kill them if I can't. I think it's fair.

>>
>>3938887
Looks like you might have a gnaphosidae there.

I prefer handling big slow spiders because it is more difficult for them to rush up my arm and into my clothing. I’ve lost count on how many small fast spiders have scuttled up into my sleeves and I’ve had to carefully remove the clothes as to not hurt the spider, or press the spider against my skin which may trigger a bite.

Nematodes have some ability to feel pain, and there are millions of them that you're killing by stepping on them.
Nature = suffering. Of course that is no excuse not to be vegan, but to believe that everything that has the capacity to suffer should be taken seriously is sad and dangerous for your mental health.

if i create a robot that avoids walls unless you give it morphine, does it feel pain?

pain is the subjective experience of detecting negative stimuli. you must have subjective experience to feel pain. most mammals have some degree of subjective experience, with more social ones necessarily dedicating more cortical neurons to it than others (the simplest way to have self awareness is to be a social observer of yourself, all the way up to learning that you are in control of your body, which i do not believe is the true "power of will" self awareness that only humans can achieve). in fact anything that must make plans with regards to itself in relation to its environment is either highly evolved and efficient in thought, or, being a mammal, has subjective experience, because the simplest way to understand the self is to observe the self. it is safe to say that anything that emotes in response to negative stimuli has a subjective experience for it.

>>
>>3939469
>if i create a robot that avoids walls unless you give it morphine, does it feel pain?
Do you understand what morphine does? Morphine allows you to feel less 'pain', and since Nematodes can react well to morphine, I'm very certain they feel some sort of pain as they also have nociceptors which is what any creatures to feel pain.
I'm not a big fan of wikipedia but it can help you understand what I'm talking about. Hopefully I'm wrong on some stuff and you correct me.

with no subjective experience of the stimuli there is no pain, it's just a biochemical robot avoiding stimuli. there is no difference between an animal without subjective experience and a roomba with special morphine receptors that block signals from its well detectors.

Most people who call themselves animal lovers are lying. I usually do not kill spiders and when I do it upsets me, the same as if I were to kill any other animal. The spiders I see are usually the largest and most royal. I have seen many that I can not identify, ones that look like huntsman but with bright white or yellow stripes, they are very beautiful.

The vast majority of people automatically consider spiders and lifeforms 'below' them, insects and likekind, as completely irrelevant. A large percentage of the population doesn't know what a cow looks like, where milk comes from, how cheese is made, and so on. Generally speaking if the animal does not have utility in the person's life, if they are not gaining something from it, they do not care about its suffering, but this thought process which most people follow applies to all non human life not just animals. The vast majority of people even the so called animal lovers, do not care about the suffering of animals. Anyone who is serious about this understands that depopulation is the only way to end the suffering, activism won't work.
>>
>>3942123

I do not need education to learn how to empathise with people who refuse to empathise with very specific animals for what are always, childish reasons, little childish fears they're had since childhood which they never addressed, because it is easier to spray a spider than it is to deal with your own immaturity.

I knew from a very young age that killing animals was wrong, regardless of my own thoughts about that animal. I never liked seeing a 5 inch huntsman running at full speed across the wall when I was a child, but I knew killing it was wrong and I would go so far as to say that people who do not have this intrinsic sensitivity to beauty, to the beauty of all life, that you people are not actually people, and do not deserve the same moral considerations.

the modern aryan, a lithe, inbred, pallid creature as far from ancient indus valley kings as you can get, is a defective human who mistakenly believes anything that moves is human. they are too sensitive, too effeminate, for they haven't been kings in centuries, just husbands to sisters and close cousins.

And? Large animals can consent fine to interspecies heterosexual sexual intercourse. They're capable of informed consent here because they naturally understand all the consequences, just like they can consent to living in your house or walking on a leash. There really aren't many consequences to understand anyways, since no one's getting pregnant and there aren't any STDs humans can give to animals (except primates and weasels).

Plus jews had no national identity until an aryan country literally gifted it to them after saving their asses in a world war. You're welcome, faggots.

So is it animal abuse to force a dog to wear a collar if they hate it? I think it is. Same for taking dogs to the groomers. You should gently and slowly get them used to grooming at home so they feel safe and secure.

Spiders do NOT violate the NAP. They help you by devouring unwanted pests while peaceably occupying unused corners of your home. If you wish to assert dominion over the aforementioned corners, I assure you most spiders will comply when escorted out of doors on the back of an empty envelope.

I never intentionally kill bugs, and actively put them outside/move them out of the road/sidewalk if I can. I know the universe would not extend the same courtesy to me, but I just feel better not killing anything on purpose. But it’s not really possible for them to have feelings like mammals right?
>>
>>3938173
Flys I shoo away, sometimes try to put them outside if I can catch them before my cats do (don’t like to let my cats torture bugs). I’ve only ever intentionally killed them when they will not leave me alone and are flying by my head. I can only give them so many chances.

Mosquitos? Well, they are actively a threat to me, and are granted the same reaction I would give to any other threat.

1.) do not be a pest and try to steal my food(My house isn't dirty enough luckily so I don't have to worry about roaches getting cozy)
2.) Invaders are not allowed, you move in or out, ants need to know where they belong, and ants often violate Rule 1, you know who you are, Fuck Off.
3.) Once moving into my house you must not bite me or harm any of my pets
4.) Do not invite all of your friends, stink bugs do this, and I am forced to politely remove them outside they are no longer welcome
5.) Must not Fly or be good at it. Your gift of flight mocks me, and you will be punished for bringing your smugness into my domain
6.) if you can fly, you are allowed if the spider bros have moved back in, I they are the closest I have to friends
7.) Mantises are allowed to come and go as they please, I cannot refuse the orders of such a high quality insect.

Amount of neurons isn't really anything to go by for intelligence, Jumping spiders got less neurons than a koala but a jumping spider can formalize plans and actually think, a koala cannot and is entirely reactionary.
>>
>>3948648
I guess it all depends on what kind of creature it is. Spiders are predatory, hence they need to be able to formulate a plan to snatch their prey. They're far from stupid, I'll give the cunts that. Sneaky sonsabitches? Indeed.
Where as koalas...
> herpityderpderp I'm gonna climb this eucalyptus try and much on leaves all the time derpityherpderp

That doesn't require much forethought.
>>
>>3948654
Indeed, we can actually deduce why ants have so many neurons trough that same logic. Ants are very social insects and have to rely on a lot of information based reactions to their environment. Lobsters meanwhile are semi-predator prey insects who only need to react to what manner of predator is going for them.

The question is now "is the ant smarter because it needs to recognise millions of pheromone and social combinations than something that actively must survive in solitude"?
>>
>>3948659
I would say that the ant is indeed smarter, seeing as it not only needs to identify those pheromones and social signals, but must actively cooperate with the colony according to said pheromones and signals. Ant society is VERY complex, same with bees.
In fact any species which relies on a group structure not just to survive, but thrive, indeed shows me some level of sentience, albeit not human level.
Not saying that koalas dont live in a collective for breeding and protection purposes (those cunts can indeed be quite vicious), but they don't rely on these collectives for anything other than that.
But the argument of intelligence also can be stretched to solitary predators such as spiders, big cats that aren't lions), raptor birds, etc.
Planning and executing a successful ambush requires a high level of thinking power.
>>

I think the consciousness of intelligent birds is (or might be in the future) very alien to us because they seperated much earlier from us in the tree of life compared to other mammals. Guys, I don't know where else to ask this but I have a tarantula related question.

Is it ok to feed them with maggots from the common housefly?

I live in a small town and there are no local suppliers of exotic insects, I could order them from elsewhere but they don't ship small quantities, and since I only got one spider, it would be a waste of money since most of the bugs will die before I even need them. However I can get fresh maggots at the local fishing store

spiders will pretty much eat anything they can kill, so I don't see how clean maggots would be any different. just make sure the maggots are grown and fed with stuff that wont harm your spider.
Odds are they are fine.

try to find another source of feeders though. perhaps see if there are other people who live nearby who also use feeder insects. you might find a herpfag who breeds crickets or roaches that you can buy some feeders from,
>>
>>3952688
Chances are they'd be fine, the only problem would be if your tarantula is an adult or even large juvenile/subadult the maggots might be too small to elicit a feeding response.

You'd definitely be better off finding some kind of source for crickets or roaches for the long term but if your spider will take the maggots they should work for the time being
