hello i am ant not spider, gibe larvae pls
>>3784182Why do spiders bother mimicking ants if the ants are blind?
>>3784407Very good question. Makes me think they aren't blind, or that they can see in a way we don't understand
>>3784407Aren't adbt alre aren't closer obl color blind.
>>3784407>>3784409They touch everything with their 'feelers'.
>>3784410Anon is either having a stroke or this was actually typed by a bunch of ants running over a keyboard.
>>3784182https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3061141/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3827452/>their mimicry provides some protection against ants, wasps and other jumping spidersfascinating
>>3784407Ants are often noxious and acidic making them unpalatable. Spiders that mimic ants benefit from appearing to be an unpalatable ant. They can also mimic other things
>imma scorpion now!
>>3784429happens to me sometimes too because the bumps are worn off my home row keys.
>>3785843that's cool as fuck wow
>>3784182This guy seems legit.
>>3784182Lockheed Martin”s Spider Ant MK3
>>3786627>Beetle mode activated
For me, it’s the caterpillar spider
>>3787998Cute new spooder
>>3785851now these little guys are pretty cool.
>>3784182>>3784407I don't know the specifics about this species in particular but it could be a form of mullerian mimicry, where the spider (already somewhat dangerous on its own) imitates another dangerous species (ants) rather than it being aggressive mimicry (wolf in sheep's clothing)>Predator eats ant/ gets too close to nest>gets swarmed, bitten and sprayed with formic acid>learns to avoid ants>Predator sees spider-ant>avoids itI say mullerian and not batesian because I guess the spider could also be a threat but idk if its venomous
>>3790193Probably bothBet some mimicking spiders look like ants so they can prey in larvae while other species minmic ants to benefit from their potential predators not wanting a foul acid-blasting ant
Since this is currently this most applicable thread....Just caught a new jumping friend by my bedroom window. Little spider is still skittish so I can't get much of a pic just yet.Have it narrowed down to a Naphrys sp. But perhaps someone else knows better.Rocky mountain region USA
hello friends, I are very scary snake, please go away
>>3785843What is this spider called? I think I've seen it once
>>3790574Paraplectana duodecimmaculata apparently.Unless you live in Java you probably seen a different spider. Could be the same genus tho
>>3788064If something was going to eat you alive ass first, would you prefer them looking cute or scary?
>>3790591Oh nope, I live in Vancouver BC. It was a really bright red or orange and I've only seen a spider like it once, it scurried away pretty fast so don't remember the exact details on it.
>>3791518You never really know.Spiders are being introduced outside of their native range all the time, so it could have been.New species of spider are also discovered all the time, so that's a possibility as well.
>>3787998here, have a better pic of it
>>3784410Are you ok
