There was a cheetah kitten at the San Diego Zoo who was born with his knees bending the wrong way. He could get around, but not very well, and he'd never be able to run which is a really sad thought in and of itself. So, to help with his self esteem, they gave him a friend and they take to each other instantly. They had given other big cats therapy dogs, but there's usually a period of adjustment. But not between these two.

So, the kitten goes in for surgery and gets his knees fixed. The puppy is outside the operating room pacing the whole time. Then afterwards, the kitten is supposed to be isolated so no one chews on his casts. It took all of fifteen minutes before the puppy and kitten were back together, and the puppy could not be gentler than he was as the kitten healed up. No issues with the casts.

Now, they do shows together, where they 'race.' They're both fully grown, and the cheetah is able to clock in at above 60 MPH, and they're still completely inseparable.

So, if you're ever at the San Diego Zoo and you see a doggo in the cheetah enclosure, you don't need to worry yourself.

That's a wild predator bigger than you are, you dumb fuck, not an animal owned by someone as a pet in the middle of a city. If it were a pet it would need to be kept enclosed, for its safety and others. Housecats dont die via falling, but getting run over, predated, or fights. Your pet leopard would die being shot for being a threat or stolen to be placed in a zoo

Domestication is not training, it is selective breeding for specific traits.
But I mean, look at how much of a genetic mess cheetahs are, and how specialized they are, and how tolerant of humans they are. Its almost like they have already been selectively bred to be that way...

As much as you can domesticate any cat.
Which technically they aren't.
>>
>>3094267
Pretty much this. Cat behavior is pretty similar across species to a remarkable degree. So, you have your cat who is super cuddly and loving and who will still randomly scratch or bite you, just because the mood strikes them, have no sense of personal boundaries or space when it comes to you and plenty of personal boundaries when it comes to them, tons of energy and they do not give a fuck about your furniture or your carpet. Now take all that behavior and apply it to something much bigger, heavier, strong and less willing to give a fuck. They could be your best friend for years and then you’re ten minutes late with food and you accidentally step on their tail and that’s it for you.

because genetic differences between Tigers and Lions, Lion male genes promote size of the offspring to ensure that his offspring out-compete any other offspring in the womb at the same time. Genes from the female inhibit growth to ensure that as many offspring as possible survive and that they all have an equal chance. Tigers on the other hand are solitary so they don't have that kind of limiter gene, therefore Ligers are basically Lions without any genetic limit on size

Tigons(male Tiger and Female Lion) conversely are significantly smaller

Because of being always out they are naturally much duller than other big cats. Cheetah claws are used for grip and traction while running, climbing and holding on to prey. not outright shredding thier opponents and food. So yeah your house cat has sharper claws than a cheetah.

http://www.cheetahspot.com/claws.php
>>
>>3095022
Huh. That’s pretty cool.

Still, a cheetah’s gotta have a ton of space to run in. I mean, if someone with a ton of land in Montana wants to have a spotty boy as a friend, I don’t see why not so long as the person can show that they can give the cheetah a good life.

I mean bears are pretty big and have been bigger and saber tooths (smilodon) have a range of sizes but some are that big. Check your prehistoric megafauna predators I'm sure you could find more. Its disputable how much interaction humanity had with these animals though.
>>
>>3100847
Prehistoric bears were fucking enormous and ancient humans still killed the fuck out of them.

>This is just an average-sized short-faced bear. Image from Dantheman9758 on the Wikimedia Commons. Genetically very similar to the Arctotherium genus, the giant short-faced bear is one of the few species that dared to rival the Arctotherium in size as well. The species first appeared roughly 800,000 years ago in what is now the United States, and soon spread in Canada. It is believed that the bear averaged 2,000 pounds and stood six foot tall at the shoulder. Fully drawn up, these massive bears could reach up to 12 feet.

Don't Cheetahs get that problem Orcas get where their natural ranges are so huge that being confined in captivity makes them go insane?
>>
>>3102686
That’s the other thing with keeping a cheetah. They NEED to run. They don’t do well when they can’t run as far and as fast as they want to, whenever they want. The San Diego Zoo’s enclosure for them is ENORMOUS. Bigger than what they give tigers and lions, because they need that space for their mental well being.

In order to be able to take care of a cheetah and do it well, you need A LOT of land. And even then you need to make sure that they can’t get over, or under, the fencing that you install. I’m not saying it’s impossible to keep a spotty boi and do a good job, just that you need a huge amount of money to do so, and you need to have done a ton of research.
>>
>>3102001
On that topic, why don't we use IVF on animals on endangered species that won't fuck?

Domesticated themselves.
Small cats eat vermin and human civilizations have lots of vermin. They move in like pigeons.
Humans just tolerate them for their cuteness and the fact that they eat rats. The cats that like and are nice to people get extra food.
