I decided to join the army, and I'm looking forward to my MOS, which will be fun and intellectually challenging. I thought about this carefully, and I know in my heart that this is what I want to do and that it'll make me a much stronger person. But to get there, I have to get through boot camp and the culture shock of joining the army, and I'll probably have problems.

Basically, I'm introverted, I'm intelligent, I'm not chatty outside of the abstract things I find interesting, and I largely keep my opinions to myself. Below a thick, polite, yet distant mask, I'm sensitive. I'm not an asshole by any means. I try to be empathetic and helpful. But I'm self-conscious of the fact that I don't fit in well with people or that I accidentally offend people, which hampers my confidence. I also find it difficult to relax and have fun in groups.

My strategy is to keep my mask up, work my ass off, stay focused, not take getting smoked personally, treat the ordeal as a game, praise myself for surviving challenges, and remind myself why I'm doing this when things get difficult. But I'm worried that that won't be enough.

I still have a month. I'm currently preparing for it by keeping myself in shape. While I still have time, what else can I do to prepare?

You sound like someone that will hate bootcamp, and especially hate the army. I think you should have chosen a different branch. As far as the military goes, the army, by culture, is even worse than the marines. At least they'll respect you if you're tough enough to hack the training. The army is literally filled with the dumbest mother fuckers out of all branches. I had never, EVER met an army recruit that did not regret going for another branch after being in for a while and see how it all shakes out.
>tl;dr pick a different branch if its not too late
>>
>>27053608
It's too late for that.
>I had never, EVER met an army recruit that did not regret going for another branch after being in for a while and see how it all shakes out.
The people who picked a good MOS had much better experiences than the ones who didn't. I had a friend who scored a 94 on the ASVAB and still chose infantry. Obviously, even though he's a country boy at heart, he's suffering because he's not being used to his potential.
>>
>>27053622
Ugh... Yeah, the army is full of those. Dinks who have potential but, from the sounds of it, bought into the guts & glory bullshit. Hooefully he will make rangers or something eventually so its not a total waste of time... Well, ok, first off, you have a good plan. Keep your head down and be quiet. Don't draw attention to yourself. This applies to both underachieving and overachieving. I say that because you say you're introverted. If you underachieve, you get a rep as a fuck up, and they'll pick on you till you either wash out or shape up. If you overachieve, they'll keep heaping the work and responsibility on you, to get an idea of just how good of a leader you can be. So, do exactly as you're told, nothing more, unless you're looking to move up, and are ready for the work.

Cont...
>do not be a smart ass and show up with a shaved head
Let them cut your hair, if they don't need to, they'll probably make you do PT while waiting for everyone else.
>if you get off the bus at boot late at night, and are shuffled into a classroom, and left there for a long period of time, seemingly for no reason, ask to go to bed
Instructors pulled this on both my dad and I. I don't know why, I think just for shits and giggles. Or maybe to teach us the lesson to ask questions if you don't know what you're doing.
>memorize the eleven general orders of a sentry.
You will be quizzed on these repeatedly from day one, and will be punished with PT for incorrect answers.

Let me think about this some more, working at the moment, and I have to convert some of the info cause my family and I all went to different branches. Pretty much everyone has the same stuff, just maybe different names or methodologies.

You will be expected to do something like this in basic:

> 21 pull-ups
> 91 push-ups
> 100 sit-ups
> two-mile run in 12 minutes and 16 seconds

Super specific, but this is the exact average for someone in basic.

You can also train with the following:

> 5 mile runs in under 35 mins
> DL 405 for 5 x 8
> Bench 315 for 5 x 8
> Suare 495 for 5 x 8

and other light exercise like that to keep yourself in shape. You also want to go to the range and practice with an M4 out to 15 hundred yards and with a Glock. With the Glock you want to be consistently hitting center mass at 200 yards with every round in the mag.

This will make sure they don't fail you out to be a gate guard in the first few days.

I also recommend practicing your rappelling, land navigation, and swimming basics.

>>27053672
Fyi, this is the branch I would have suggested. Not trying to be mean, but every branch has its own culture and introverts just get along better there.
>>
>>27053719
> 100 sit-ups
oofff I can feel my ass breaking imagining this

I got a pampered libshit vibe from the Air Force and I like my MOS better than what the Air Force offered.
>>
>>27053719
Dude, I don't know if you served a long time ago or if using an outdated source but those requirements are way too high. Not even rangers require that shit.

>RASP and Ranger School are some of the hardest physical challenges you’ll face in life if you pursue becoming an Army Ranger. You’ll need to complete intense strength and endurance workouts prior to RASP to ensure you meet the pre-RASP Army Ranger fitness tests. These include:
53 push-ups
63 sit-ups
Two mile run in 14:30 or less
Four pull-ups
Six-mile ruck march with a 35-pound rucksack and weapon in less than one hour, 30 minutes
To succeed at RASP, it’s important to run, swim, and strength train since you’ll need to complete a 15-meter swim in full uniform, a five-mile run in under 40 minutes, and a 12-mile march with a 35-pound ruck.

https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/specialty-careers/special-ops/army-rangers.html

Also your marksmanship recommendations are again, only if you're trying to be some kind of fucking sniper war hero and even those are way higher than they need to be.
>>
>>27053756
come on man, he basically took /fit/ meme lifts and called it light exercise. he's joking
>>
>>27053744
You're not entirely wrong. But they recruit the smartest, and the most woman. That might be were that vibe comes from. Did 1t0x1, sere specialist. So, I wouldn't know. I spent my time getting paid to teach people how to do primitive camping lol.
>>
>>27053783
It went over my head lol

I'm a corpsman in the navy, can't tell you much about the army but I work with infantry in the marines. As far as boot goes I can tell you now, focus on alot of fucking running. Your cardio needs to be really good. If you can't fo push ups and sit ups they will get you there, you're gonna get smoked a fuck ton and being in decent shape now is gonna make your life less miserable.

Try to fit in, don't stand out. Boot camp is fucking easy but it also sucks dick, I promise you you're gonna be miserable and hate it but look back on it and laugh. It feels like forever when you're there but goes by quick. Don't ask to many questions and don't take anything personally, it's all a show to get you on board with the program.

When you get out don't be a fucking boot ass faggot and wear grunt style T-shirts and your dog tags everywhere, people will make fun of you. Just wear normal clothes, don't keep that gay ass high and tight haircut and be humble. Don't take selfies in your uniform. Fuck every women you can, it's a free for all once you get to your MOS school and it's one of my fondest memories of my early career. But DO NOT get married. To anyone.
>>
>>27053824
Solid advice, good squid.
>>
>>27053846
Jokes on me, chances are he's going to fail PT standards, think of suicide on the range, get out and walk around town in his dress uniform while taking selfies at the bar, get smoked by his NCO and wind up married to some PFC barracks bunny. Such is life.

>>27053915
Fuck, you just described at least a third of my BMT flight lol

>>
>>27053789
Yeah they fucking pamper you, that's the entire point

TRUST ME you fucked up here. You want to be in the air force where you get AC and work with computers, and then can get out after 4 years and make $$$$$. Hope you think about how spoiled/pampered/muh libshit the Air Force is while you are busy doing menial work for an NCO that hates you.

I'm a 25yo truck driver in Europe and recently my country's military posted a job opening for reservist truck driver. It's basically 2 days a week driving army trucks supplying different units and bases, and you can also go on larger exercises and deployments. I have the military "itch" and I'm in good physical shape (2900m cooper run test, 20 pullups), I'm just sort of scared that I'll be stuck with retards. On one hand I want to apply because cool trucks and I get to do all sorts of offroad training, on the other hand I'm full of doubts. Should I just go all the way and join fulltime? Will I get laughed at by active duty soldiers for being a reservist? What do? I'm a pretty solitary guy as well. I can work in a team just fine but I REALLY enjoy being on my own.
>>
>>27055379
Stop overthinking. You could get denied that job tomorrow and then realize that hmmming and hawing was for nothing. I thought I could get multiple jobs for sure that never called me back

guys, what's done is done. I knew what I was doing. I'm fine with it. I'd rather focus on overcoming what's ahead.

btw, this attitude is the reason why every institution is filled with libshits, making it a self-fulfilling prophecy

you're ceding control by not participating, then you complain when retards dictate your life

You speak as if you can change who owns America and get other soldiers to stop fighting for Israel by becoming one of them
>>
>>27056326
yeah... that's exactly what happens. you get into positions of power with like-minded people. when this happens enough, things change. how do you think the march through the institutions happened? imagine being a left-wing radical in the 50s and 60s and being a doomer. obviously cringeworthy in retrospect.
>>
>>27053622
I got an 89. When my recruiter kept trying to talk me out of going infantry, I told him that if he wouldn't do it I would find a recruiter who would.

If you're gonna be a soldier, be a soldier.

jack off whenever you're on fireguard to keep your rage in check. otherwise you start fistfighting shitbags in your platoon and everyone hates you
>>
You will legitimately hate it OP

Staff Duty when you were supposed to be on leave and seeing ya girlfriend? sorry pal.

Infinite FTXs and no combat deployments? LMAO shoulda been born in the early to late 90s to have a shot to have gotten in on Afghanistan early and rock that nice CIB

Wishing and forgetting what freedom was like and why you re-upped for another 6 years in the same MOS? Damn, why'd ya raise ya right hand at MEPS?

The US military as it stands right now is glorified office work.

If you wanna know what an actual military is like, join a foreign one or get into Mercenary work like i did. All it takes really is just to know a guy. Or use your past military experience, but even then, you woulda needed to have been in CAG, Regiment, or an ODA for that.

Picrel is me when I fought in the donbas while back. Was way more of a cherished experience and more fucking fun than the army stateside.

Minus the jacking off, I was that guy LMAO.
