He wont likely be able to handle much more than a 4/4 time signature.All instruments rely on rhythm because at a base level all music is composed of: melody, harmony and rhythm. Just because you play an instrument that produces notes instead of percussion doesn't mean you get to sidestep an integral part of the art itself.
