I make an effort to watch every anime on my list. I watch the best, the worst, and everything in between. For those not in the know, yes, it's important to occasionally suffer through the mediocre, and downright offensive anime, as a means to recalibrate your palette, as it were, to gain further appreciation of what makes your favorite anime good

after suffering through the excruciating torture that was The Rising of the Shield Hero, one of the most offensive, poorly written, laziest cash outs to be stumbled upon in anime, I not only almost lost hope in anime, as it were, but also almost lost hope in all of humanity. After seeing a high MAL score, I felt feelings of alienation, disgust in my fellow man, and confusion -- not understanding why others see it fitting for such garbage to taint the fruit of our race

on the other hand, Scrapped Princess, the much needed cleanser I chanced upon watching just after SH, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Just as I was swearing off Japanese written fantasy altogether, this came along, and restored the warm, fuzzy, pleasant sensation that SH ripped from my heart. The believably written characters, quirky dynamics, honest decision making, relaxing pace and tone, and thoughtful world building helped my broken mind and body recover from the wounds SH inflicted on me. Knowing it had a much lower MAL score than SH, I was left pleasantly surprised by its superior quality

Have any of you 'puter people had similar experiences?

Yeah, whenever a random mediocre ova that was forgotten for a reason winds up subbed on website I always go out of my way to watch it on the off chance it fits right into my niches and on the on chance that it serves as a good reminder of just how much talent, effort, and intergenerational industry knowledge it takes just to create a forgettable 6.8 rather than an outright bad under_4 .
and yeah, scrapped princess is pretty good. its one of those ones I saw all the time at civic video as a teen but just let it sit on my list for 15 odd years. it was only towards the end of last year that I got around to watching it.
Heat Guy J was another one that was refreshingly better than I expected. even the eng dubwork was pretty good when I got curious and compared it with the nip.

For those of you who are thinking of posting, please keep in mind this is very likely copypasted directly from the MAL forums.

oh, I will give that one a try. Yes, there are some randomly good dubs. . . Something about the year 2002, and 2003, are very special. This i when anime happened to go digital, I might add

Ah, you’re a gen Z kid. My mistake, I didn’t know I was speaking with someone that is clinically retarded

>>252988053
if you like this anime you're lesser than a failed abortion gen z kid with down syndrome who got put up for adoption and never found a foster home. You have no redeeming qualities as a person if you like SH

I watched Bermuda Triangle Colorful Pastrale and it was a very pleasant surprise.

I'd say you have a lot of recency bias picks like cyber punk and jjk being rated way too high. Plus it seems like you don't rate anything lower than 7, and anime simply just isn't that good. Also you have a lot of shows that I haven't seen, and stuff like Naruto that I'd never watch, but other than that it's not too offensive
