>>250277644Well, it takes over the plot because the original setup about Alita wanting to save Lou ends in the middle of the manga and we have another setup entirely which stems from Alita's change as a person, at that point the Z.O.T.T. is not just a diversion but the main reason for Alita to keep fighting since Mbadi wants to nuke both Zalem and the Scrapyard, and winning the Z.O.T.T. means that she can turn both into a commonwealth to stop Mbadi.It becomes way too silly with things like Anomaly, Zekka being space Yuujiro Hanma or Rakan, but the manga already jumped the shark big time by then.And frankly, Mars Chronicles is way worse because it's full of bad writing and doesn't even have a tournament as an excuse, the most glaring example of MC's terrible writing would be how all Kunstlers outside of Gelda are all shown to be massive jobbers and how the current arc in particular goes against what BAA established about Panzer Kunst being made to fight enemies bigger than humans, but has Gyapollo kill literally dozens of kunstlers easily and NOBODY ever used a single PK technique against him, though maybe Keun will wake the fuck up and finally do so in the next chapters considering the current fight seems to be the last one.
