>>250185294And what is her definition of “weak”? Someone who doesn’t think Drachma is “Rent Free”? How are Drachma the “bad guys” here?Alex did try to do something, it didn’t work well, same goes for anyone else like Hughes that tried to do something, only for Bradley to screw it over. What could Alex have even done? Even Roy said that Alex was the ONLY person in that war that had common fucking sense and wished he joined him.

Since my last inquiry about the average age of anons in these threads figure I'd make this too. I'm interested in the demographics https://strawpoll.com/polls/jVyG80Xb1n7
>>250222824Thanks OP. Honestly it's a little too much that the four goons that worked under Kimblee are not only not bad guys but are down right swell people.
>>250223163Love at first sight.
>>250225312Where's the age poll?
>>250225312>homunculus is a sex nowI chuckled.
>>250225604I made it back during the mid 70s chapters I believe, can't remember which one. Most anons were in the 25 to 30 age range
>>250226072>I made it back during the mid 70sAnons have probably aged a bit since the 70s.
>>250225537It does look contrived to make all four of them switch sides, but being good persons stuck with a bad job seems to be a common thing with chimeras. They probably had a background similar to the Devil Nest's ones, with their transformation not being fully voluntary and their only options in life being to live as an outcast or keep working as goons for the military. And these guys chose the latter because there was no one like Greed to make the former preferable.
>>250222293>>250223163Hohenheim has learned things he shouldn't have
>>250222068You just know.
>>25022282439 OP>>250225537Have you never heard of the banality of evil, anon?
>>250227009Who knew that Al had storage in there.
>>250223163>Uhhh...No, anon, it's uohhhhhhhhh
>>250222727>>250222739Why didn’t this moron just go full armour before he came into the room? Should have called his power the “Ultimate Plot contrived stupidity”.
>>250222620>>250222635>>250222659>>250222677Greed had a clear opening to break Bradley’s sword here, all he had to do was crush it in his armoured hands but instead just holds it.
>>250227582the big think was too much for him
>>250223521The art style, especially on Bradley’s face, feels too thick faced and flat.
>>250227699>>250227807He's gonna need a thick face to bulldoze his wife's fat ass.
>>250224355Technically, Greed is the one freeloading.
>>250227582If Greed was fully armored, he wouldn't even have to worry about Bradley.
>>250228831Didn't Wrath cut through Greed's armor casually in the sewer?
>>250223258Their plan is to stop Father one and for all. They need him to be vulnerable. They want him to think he succeed before pull the rug out under him. By letting he absorb "God" but without the souls needed to contain "God", he have to spent the Xerxes Souls he has until there nothing left.
>>250228886He sliced off his arm before he could armor it, then took advantage of the fact that he couldn't regenerate and armor at the same time. Then he subdued him by stabbing him through those weird circle things on his torso.
>>250228886No. If he had, this wouldn't be possible >>250222739
>>250227582>>250228831>Expecting greed to be fully all there when he just killed bido and Ling confronting him about it Put him BSOD modeAutism
>>250229449Yeah, okay. What's his excuse later?
>>250222270>Honhenhimes life was Al's in the armor x100 for the majority of it:(, Well that does explain the absentee dad bit a bit. He really didn't want this time to be one where he saw his kids die before him.>>250228920This. Also if they managed to collapse the tunnel or do something else to force father to miss the promised day. It's still possible he'll then kill them off preemptively, and go back under to start another country = moon circle sacrifice again. We don't know the celestial calendar in FMA or how the eclipses line up with physical cities. It may be faster in fathers case if this round failed, he'd just move shop for another spot on the planet where the eclipse and circle making lines & population sacrifice at key points lines up sooner. That seems to be his plans anyways given the doll army. They had to bet it all to end it for good, but there's no point in doing it suicidally- they'd accomplish the same if all the human sacrifices accidentally died/ decided to kill themselves before the promised day - there wouldn't be enough time for father to find 5 Roy like replacements and force them a la pride to open their gates on time. The heroes don't do that because obviously that's ridiculous- who'd throw in the towel before even attempting to fight?
>>250229461>Excuse >when he doesn't fight Bradly- againHere's a (you) edge anon.
>>250229709I guess I hallucinated the confrontation where he and Fuu fight Bradley at Central.
>>250229722meh, it wasn't a solo fight, and by then his priorities already shifted. Dude was already more invested at that point at protecting others then axing Bradly. It didn't work, but that wasn't for a lack of trying v.s. bido's case.
>>250222126>>250222149So I started blasting
>>250223163I don't remember this scenewhich episode?
>>250230644Brotherhood episode 27.
>>250222209Ed’s taste is too high taste for you fucks to understand
>>250222209>flame design>horns>wheels with spikesGnarly as fuck!
>>250222754Pissed of Selim is so cute.
>>250223521This, honesty greed and Bradley both had the best fights in the series
>>250223493I’m not so sure about how most most mangaka use money, but it’s weird hearing a lot cover their faces out of worrying for their safety from crazy fans or stuff like that. Of course a large amount are probably just shy too
>>250225312I’d sooner believe that there’s a homoncules in this thread than a femanon
>>250222093You'd think they'd also list his eye color, since he's one of the only people in the entire world that has it.
>>250222293Al's tired of being the only one up at real nigga hours
>>250222824Thanks for the read, OP
>>250231970Al just wants to shitpost on /a/ - Alchemy, but all the Amestrians are asleep.
>>250222104The autism spreads.
>>250222209Kek, I'm still blaming Hohenheim for his taste.
>>250222293Father and son bonding over their weird circumstances.
>>250222309Kek, that crotch storage.
>>250222452Guess the power of friendship isn't strong enough this time.
>>250222635Oh, the power of friendship is actually working.
>>250227009>hang on, just let me get my cock out
>>250231809FMA did have a pretty huge female audience
>>250227505There is no explanation given by the manga, so let me offer a few plausible ones>He doesn't like to go full armor>Concentrating the carbon in his body on a few spots makes it harder than spreading it over his whole surface>His power costs souls that he'd rather not use, because he's a greedy bastard>He doesn't like how full armor looks>He loses speed and agility>Arakawa likes drawing Ling and Greed's human faces too muchThere, pick your favorite.
>>250233772>He doesn't like how full armor looksThis is the excuse Greed himself gives against Ed.And later when Ling gets control of the power he goes full-armour instantly. So it's definitely just a Greed-issue.
>>250233865what a based retard
>>250222824>Fed the Xink once.>He keeps coming back. This is parks have those signs.
>>250223163Fucking based cow woman.
>>250230644It was an anime original recap episode contextualized as a dream Hohenheim was having. It was mostly about Hohenheim thinking about humanity in general with clips from older episodes playing. It ended with a congratulations scene.
>>250223258They sort of wanted the circle to be completed since they could use it for other circles themselves, Scar's brother's circle used it while best dad used the shadow created by the eclipse.
>>250222209how do they know what it looks like outside though
>>250222104>>250222126I LOVE this pair.
>>250223163In Hoenheims defense, Trisha was the one who was doing the approaching
>>250222149The violence is escalating.
>>250222186Make a u-turn.
>>250222209That taste is perfectly fine. I can't believe anyone would insinuate Ed has shit taste.
>>250222256Damn, Al is almost as cold as his brother when it comes to their dad.
>>250222293>it was love at first sightUhm...
>>250222659Cute angry Pride.
>>250233648Yeah, when I woke up and looked at the poll I was honestly surprised there weren't more of us here.
>>250222785Elric telepathy, it always fails!
>>250222824Thanks OP. Now kick him Ed.
>>250241406It worked when they were running from kimblee's men in that northern town tho
So why exactly was the first episode of BH so ill received here? I thought it was a solid introduction and recap of the setting and characters
>>250245906Leto was a far better introduction, and it also eludes to the overarching plot way too earlyBut they also fucked up Leto too, as far as I rememebr
>>250246062>But they also fucked up Leto too, as far as I rememebr03 or BH? Because afaik the latter's episode was more similar to the manga chapter
>>250246165BHI haven't watched either in, oh god, must be a decade though, but I distinctly remember hating it
>>250246214Huh, I remember when I tried 03 in 2011 I didn't like the leto episodes, they felt too contrived(?) to me. I was about to drop it altogether after several episodes and then someone told me to watch BH and I did that instead and loved all of it. In retrospect though I was only 15 and wouldn't read the manga until this January. So for me personally manga>BH>>03
>>250245906It's alright as a filler episode, or for people that already read the series, but it's not the best introduction. It robs the story of organic character introductions, and doesn't really gel well with the tone of the early manga. It also foreshadows the nation wide conspiracy too soon, imo
>>250245906Yeah I don't hate the freezing alchemist episode either. I liked how it foreshadows some of the later plot points without actually giving anything away. I do think the manga version of Liore is the best possible introduction, but it doesn't really work today since FMA is so well-known. Al being a hollow suit of armor, and Ed's arm being made of metal are fantastic reveals in chapter 1, but pretty much anybody getting into FMA will already know that.
>>250222353>What if instead of something useful, I offer you a vague riddle about a future event?>>250222531>headpats to splats>>250222543Honest question, why weren't they erased? The explanation that follows is bogus.
>>250222739>Also has Ling's memories for some reason now, even though he didn't before>>250222754I'm surprised he can do his shadow abilities in a well-lit room like that.
>>250245906I could probably write 10,000 characters alone on the things that episode does wrong.>recap of the setting and charactersThis alone is sufficient, though. For many people watching the show, it isn't a recap - it's their first time being introduced to every aspect of the world and each character in it. Go watch it again and try to imagine it as a first-timer. Keep track of every concept introduced, every character shown, every setting detail, every plot thread started that won't be followed up on for 10/20/30 episodes, etc.
>>250249561I think that's when the switch from Greed to Ling happens, and Greed's memories from being hunted down by Wrath turning into Ling's memories of the same thing is what's going inside Greedling's head as it happens
>>250249561Can't have shadows without light, you know.
>>250249952It's mostly a teaser of all that stuff, everything gets picked up in detail later.
>>250245906It introduces 30 characters, the Elric Brothers' body trouble, hints at Father, practically spoils Bradley being evil, etc. despite the manga itself doing all of these things in reasonable spurts at much better times. I watched FMAB with a friend and they were completely lost as to who half of the characters were by the end of the first episode since they'd never seen 2003.
>>250247588It doesn't matter that it's well-known. That's the start of the story and Liore becomes an important location later.
>>250250048>switch from Greed to LingThat makes sense, thank you.>>250251037Then how does he transit all the way from Central to the tunnel beneath Briggs without light all the way between? I'm not really sure what his relationship to light is. It doesn't seem to be stopping him at all here, or when the soldiers had their lanterns active, but then he didn't attack them in the dark.>>250251068Of course, but saying "we reference 15 episodes' worth of material in the first 20 minutes of this show" is not a smooth way to start a series. It's overwhelming, and the viewer has no idea which names they need to remember and which aren't going to be relevant for dozens of episodes. There's a reason virtually no show in existence tries to introduce half of its characters and a number of its plot arcs in the first episode.
>>250245906It's a blatant rush job to quickly introduce everything again because the fucking director was an idiot who thought "lol dey probably already watched 03 lol who cares about anyone who would watch this 7 years after it came out haha!I love FMA:B and it's genuinely one of my favorite anime of all time but that fucking beginning is suck a fucking weak point especially after reading the manga as a whole 2 years ago
>>250252217I'm guessing he notices when someone lights a light, allowing him to take shape.
>>250241400I was more surprised none of us answered humonculus. I was definitely tempted, but no, the sins are fun, but there are much bigger fans of them than me.
Chapter 83: The Promised Day
>>250241400Show your philosopher's stones or GTFO
>>250245906I don't particularly like it. But if I had to pick a real reason. It wasn't even the filler or how disorienting it was for new viewers. It was the fact that the ep centered on McDougal, but didn't do anything right in it's larger run to integrate that anime filler character in with the rest of the story. This usually isn't a big deal, but with a series like FMA that tries to treat it that every character counts, no matter how small their part ( i.e. bido and the early chimeras to Greed). It feels like a particularly low effort recap episode for people who've already watched 03 or read the manga. Not an attempt at anime the anime original to have its own beginning, middle and end.Like I don't even prefer 03, but I respect it tried to do it's own thing and put a concrete effort to it.Ep 1 in BH is like exactly what if says on the time. A recap EP that's low effort and not a great addition for either previous fans or something with extrapolation that new fans could work with.
>>250253342These two + Ed make for so much comedy.
>>250253342>GrinNot nearly as good as greeling
>>250253342Ed's height copium reaches new lows
>>250253280>>250253297>>250253322>The actual moment his priorities change is when he wants to noogie/one up LingOh greed, you are so bad at being an Antag.>>250253342>Im not small it's the world that's too big... Is this character development? He acknowledged it without cringing. What sorcery is this!
>>250253494The insane amount of keikaku in this manga is brilliant

We're in for some fun times boys
Just read a Roy x Rebecca x Riza fic.
>>250253096Should've held the title. #83 The Promised Day at the end of the chapter is cool.>>250222353>>250253138This "day of reckoning" they keep referring to is a lot less sinister in Japanese I think. 来るべき日, which is something like "the day that will surely come". "Promised day" is accurate though.>>250253201This guy loves to pull his gun out at the earliest sign of trouble.>>250253839Love the anime version of this.I like the overall structure of the plot leading into this chapter and resulting in everyone learning about the promised day at the same time despite being scattered across the country.
Alright, why doesn't Havoc fuck Rebecca?
>>250253858Maybe this joke works better with "maybe".>Maybe Kimblee has another stone>Maybe I'll hit my head>Maybe my antenna'll get jammed>Maybe I'll grow 30cm>Maybe my clothes won't fit anymore>Maybe no one'll recognize me>Maybe all the women in the world'll fall in love with me>Maybe they'll fight over me>Maybe it'll be an international incident>Maybe he's lost itAl is using the same phrase as Ed in Japanese.
>>250254587he literally can't move his legs right now
>>250254319Probably, but I was in a hurry today, and started dumping the chapter before I finished reading it.
>>250254587Give him some time, you can't rush the guy.
>>250254923I don't think he does even in the epilogue.
>>250253342>"I'm not small. It's the world that's too big!"kek
>>250253435>>250253457I imagine the Armstrongs just fight each other all the time over the most trivial things.
>>250253494Tsundere big sis.
>>250253561>>250253589Why is Izumi beating up the Briggs soldiers?
>>250253589Holy fuck, how did Ed survive this woman
>>250255307She needs a hobby
>>250255313I'm sure there's a fic where she had his way with him
>>250255403Stop that. Izumi landed one of the best BEARS in manga; the woman has standards.
>>250255313persistence and stubbornness>>250255403Izumi isn't the type to cheat on her husband, cuck
>>250255403Don't do that to Sig, you fucking faggot.

>>250253909>the clap of their ass cheeks is the source of their power
Armstrong should fuck his imouto.
>>250255851Makes about as much sense as Regis
>>250255851knowing Arakawa it was probably a joke name
>>250255307Old habits die hard.
>>250255048Well yeah... he just got back on his feet. Man's not made of steel or diamonds, let him figure out walking again first before fishing. Besides I think it'd be funny if they only started dating when Rebecca joins him out east taking over Roy's adoptive Mom's bar. She ends up being right and wrong about there being no good guy in central
>>250255313Shortstack rage is nothing to scoff at anon. And technically he wouldn't have without the guy izuku was employing at the shop keeping watch on them. She knows her strengths with brats
>>250256333>SpoilerMakes me wonder why they got rid of his part there in the BH episodes that covered Ed and Al on the island
>>250256703>Muh 03>Muh timeuThere's a lot of bone headed reasons on why they cut out so much of FMA's beginning in BrotherhoodBrotherhood is so lucky to be such good quality overall that it can be overlooked but I still find it unacceptable
>>250256703Other than streamlining it, maybe they wanted to make the brothers look tougher?
>>250256703Logically thinking about it>03 covered it already which they may have presumed people have already seen>BH itself is already 50 some episodes (or 48? Forgot) long and they figured since the scenes already exist in another anime they can save money and not put it into brotherhoodThat's all I can guess.
>>250222824Thank you. FMA is so good on a chapter to chapter basis.
>>250253909>FULL-CHEEKED ALCHEMIST!>Full-Cheeked Alchemist...
>>250256703It's honestly not an important detail, so it doesn't hurt anything to lose it in the adaptation.

>>250264021Yeah. There's too much leverage over Ed and Al for them to take that advice, but they could've passed that tip onto Izumi.>>250264024Ah yeah, given that THAT happens, that could be a solution, although there's still an implication that you still need to be the right kind of person to actually make it through the gate and qualify.
>>250264269The requirements thing is weird. They make a big ordeal out of who is allegedly a person that CAN open the gate but then Arakawa doesn't expound upon what differentiates these people from the others. There is nothing that indicates that your run of the mill state alchemist is any different than the others outside of talent.
OP thank you for these threads, but also fuck you for make me wanting to rewatch Brotherhood for the 5th time
>>250264024Pride forcing the Gate did some kind of damage to him. So that may not have been a viable trick for multiple last second sacrifices if the Elric family and Izumi fucked off from Central/Amestris. They're all the type that are unwilling to accept running away over direct confrontation though.

>>250267861Yes, the Armstrong family strand of autism passed down for generations.
>>250253342So the reason /a/ loves FMA is because every chapter is about bullying manlets.
>>250268047WHEN WILL THEY LEARN
>>250265844The more I think about it, the more interesting the topic becomes. Father obviously could just wait to try again, so expending Amestris might be a waste, but regardless of how he views them, he'd have a real problem as the conspiracy members realizing they're getting shafted. There's too many unknowns in play to say whether he could or would make a stone and then just have an even tighter grip with the mannequin soldiers for the next time he tries, but it could be a potential route if he missed his day.I ultimately think no, because he'd have a tough time exercising the same control over everything--government, conflicts, alchemy, etc.--if the circle was merely within another country's territory, but who knows how strong he'd be with a gigastone
>>250267248She didn't kick them out, she told her dad to retire and take a nice vacationOf course she's being deceptive on the real reason she wants them to go but it's not mean in any way

>>250268537The main use of the nationwide circle was to make a stone strong enough to contain the main Truth.Based on how big Father was when he was absorbing the main Truth, he might be as big as a city, so it might be reasonable to assume that he won't need such another coutry-sized circle to open that big gate.If Father will only be able to make the stone now, it'd be way harder to stop him when he's opening that big gate. The important part of Hohenheim's counter was that the bodies of the Amestrian souls were still there and healthy so it'd be easy enough to bring them back.

>>250233865Does Ling ever go full armor on his own? From how I remember it, whenever Ling gains full control he never even uses the armor ability. The one time Ling is in control and uses the armor ability that I can recall is after his gramps smacks him and yells specifically 'Greed, harden yourself' and we see Greed reacting from inside Ling which makes it seems like it was Greed who activated the ability
>>250273131After they drive Wrath off, Ling asks Greed for the driver's seat to mow down the rest of the enemies present before he heads to Father's room.
>>250273273You're right. I thought it was meant more that Lin could access the power on his own so whenever he swapped he went full armor. But yes, when Greed decided to lend Ling his power, Ling just went full armor instead of partial armor. Although given the way they talked, it did also seem like they were still sharing control instead of it being 100% Ling.
>>250269260It comes across as mean because of the way she speaks in Japanese. She's using so-called "polite speech" because she's speaking to her father, but she's still speaking very matter-of-factly. By comparison, she doesn't speak this way to superiors in the military. It seems like the translator automatically assumed keigo = soft speech and translated it into English non-literally using soft expression like "should retire" and "I'm merely suggesting". But her keigo here doesn't automatically mean everything she says is polite, it's just that keigo is the minimum requirement when speaking to her father. What she literally said is:>Retire, father. (not "you should")>I'm telling you to give me the estate and spend the rest of your life in leisure. (not "merely suggesting")>A coward like him? (sounds more dismissive of Alex than just "that coward?")>That would only smear mud on the Armstrong name. And lastly (this one is less than literal),>Leave everything to me and take a nice vacation abroad or something. ("or something" sounds dismissive)This is harder to explain. Unlike the others which I translated directly, here she did actually say "why not retire? (いかがですか)", but it's a very straightforward phrasing of a request which can be construed as impolite. If she were actually being polite she would soften her request by phrasing it as a negative question or introducing ambiguity, or at the very least use something like でしょうか like she does with her superior in chapter 81. That's why I wrote it as a demand in English, because it sounds demanding in Japanese in this particular context. Plus just look at how she's sitting and her expression here. Then when Alex comes in their father says "Olivier just told me to retire and go away," and that's why Alex says she's being rude.
