A joint effort between popular illustrator Yasu and Kouji Kumeta, creator of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, this manga features female rakugo storytellers. After stepping off the stage, these comedians chit-chat in the girl's dressing room. This is a comedy that begins after the storyteller has said goodbye to the audience!

[Calendar] Jap. 野武内科 (Yabu Naika), which when you only read it without thinking of the kanji, forms a question: ヤプ無いか。(Yabu Nai Ka - ain’t she a scrub?)

HM, the Audience members here look sort of familiar (^_~)...Can you identify all of them?*

[Name Sign] in kanji: 暗落亭苦来 - Anrakutei seems to be a pun on “unlucky” and Kukuru can
Refer to the verb くくる that means "to tie up". Judging from the kanji, Kukuru's first name means "hard future" (Since this is rakugo, it's a stage name though, that's also why the "family" names all end in -tei)

[Chapter Title] Jap. 娘ほめ (Kohome; Ko is an unofficial alternate reading for the first character (often used in literature, comics and song lyrics) that normally is read "musume" And means daughter or OU girl, a pun on 子ほめ, a kind of rakugo performance that literally translates to "in praise of children"

*all characters from Hayate, the Combat-Butler. From right to left: Isumi, Ayumu, Hinagiku,
Hayate, Nagi, Izumi, Maria, <not known> and in the back: Tama

Ichikawa Ebizo is the stage name of a family of kabuki-actors that's passed on from father to son. The current Ebizo (at time of writing) is the 11th one.

The poster hanging in the background shows the 3rd-generation main character from
"Jojo's Bizarre Adventure".

[Hipsters] 傾き者 Kabuki-mono = person who inclines their head towards something; 歌舞伎者 Kabukimono, here written with the kanji for kabuki theatre + person, can also mean "Edo-period eccentric who attracted public attention with their eye-catching clothes, peculiar hairstyle, and weird behavior".

[Trendy Purchases] Steel Battalion, one of the first games for X-Box with a pretty dumb
controller; the Police Academy series; see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segway.

Ken Akamatsu, the author of "Negima!" bought a corner lot. Apparently this is some kind of
Status thing in Japan.

[Marii-san's Version of the 3 Rules] 鬱 (utsu - depression, melancholy) And 打つ (utsu - to hit) sound the same. 買う (kau - to buy) and the first two syllables of カウンセリ ング (Kaunseringu - counseling) are the same.

[Tension] テンション (Tenshon) <-> 天使 (Tenshi) = "Angel"

[Angel Song] Kumetanwiki suspects her of going a bit Chiri here because this sounds like
Some Christmas song for. Communists. (Most likely, the Chinese communist Anthem is called "The East is Red")

[Bad Tension] Jap. 駄テンション (Da Tenshon - nice pun on "the tension"/"da tension" like you'd say it in english). 駄 Is the first character of the word 駄目 (Dame) Which means "no good" or "useless" and that's as well what this kind of tension is.

And that's all for today. The TL notes came from this page in the back, so apologies for any errors with the grammar or kanji. I had to run it through several OCR converters online since I couldn't find one that would do both English and Japanese at the same time, and some of the Japanese OCRs produced the wrong kanji. I figured in-line notes would be easier to read than cross-referencing this page, so I'll try to do this whenever the chapter gives us TL notes.

Anyways, have you made any trendy purchases recently?

Chapter 4 was the kind of thing that even I, who understands only a little English, could guess at a glance that the translation was too bad.
Today's chapter is easy to read, thanks to OP-san's notes.
However, if I may venture to say, according to Kumetan, the word Yabu on page 1 is simply a reference to an incompetent doctor, and Datenshon on page 13 seems to be a pun on Datenshi, an fallen angel.
