about halfway through HC now. I don't even think anything of all the flaws people cite like the romance plotlines not being good enough somehow or the ending being lame, especially the nonsense about Hime and the limelight - not even an argument. The romance subplots were appropriately shallow and cliche; this is a kids' show. Also it was genuinely exciting with a lot of sort of cliffhanger or tease type moments with those. The stuff with Blue and Seiji being jealous was genuinely great entertainment for almost half a season. I remember spamming a thousand different suprised/stunned reactions to the Unlovely next episode teaser post from the live thread all week long until it aired. Yuko is one of my favorite precures. I loved her dumb rice song and when she went LAAAAAAAAAAAA at the baddies. HaCha was very good and fun, also cute. And funny. Remember when they were ninjas sneaking to see Hime's dead parents and they were hiding from the Megameans and they went "shu-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta" when they were running? Heh. I wouldn't personally have liked to have seen more of that and was relieved to see it was nothing all along and just Megumi being a retard. It showed a bit of her character and kept the series appropriately light hearted and focused on teenage crushes and cute girls beating up cute bad guys. The bad guys were really good too. The fight with Queen Mirage is one of the best precure fights. HaCha was pretty good. Made a fan out of me at least.

another thing I really am liking about HC is it has some pretty sick riffs in the fight music, one or two of them are borderline metal, but it's done softly enough that it doesn't overpower all the other SFX.

I got up to like I think Fresh before HaCha was done. I feel like I started with HaCha though. FW was better. FW deserves all the hype it gets and it's easy to understand how it spawned a whole franchise. HaCha is still good though, very enjoyable. FW is just one of the best, not just the first.

If I could try to explain I'd say that I really enjoyed the contrast and the overall balance it created, between the cute slice of life type stuff and the darker more menacing stuff with the bad guys and the fighting. The fighting was gritty, and the baddies were decidedly menacing. It felt pretty unsafe, even with things like vacuum cleaner monsters and David Bowie being the first dark general. Then the SOL moments were just so perfectly bland and average and felt like really normal average person stuff, like I was just chilling in an girls school listening to her drama, relaxing and living the simple life. Most precure seasons will do this but I think FW has some of the best contrast because Nagisa is so heckin' CUTE, and then the Dark King and his minions are actually pretty frightening. Also, another big thing is the fighting. It's very hands on and gritty and there's a very badass sort of feel to it. Not a lot of other precure seasons do that so much anymore and FW did that for like a hundred episodes or whatever and two movies, and in ever single crossover movie since, they've been just as badass. Their finisher was pretty metal, which helps because they always did it, but they always did a healthy amount of punching and kicking and fighting giant monsters hand to hand too.Nagisa in particular though, at least for me, is what really does it. She was a real treasure. I liked Honoka and the fairies, and then the other fairies, and then Hikari, but before I developed my crush on Yuko I thought Nagisa was the cutest precure. I started with FW because anon said pick the cutest precure and start with her season after posting one of those images of all the cures and Nagisa was definitely the cutest.
