Outside of the drawn mechs which is rare these days, pretty much hated everything about it.
The characters lacked any personality beyond their initial archetype.
The plot was limp and crushed by the awful theme that tried to convince the viewer you can't be happy unless you're in a relationship, and that left a sour taste in my mouth.
Nothing about it was exciting or interesting enough to justify my time spent watching it.

Yes, it was worth the investment to watch, and that's all that matters. Can't say the same for a lot of other trash that gets a pass because those works weren't as high profile or polarizing.

I liked it. It was definitely a series made in reaction to Eva, in that it steals a ton of its setting. But, I'll give it the credit that if you look at it from its portrayal of human relationships its wildly different than Eva. It's a far more positive outlook on human relationships, rather than Eva's freudian everyone hates each other thing. I liked that the characters weren't outsized or exaggerated personalities (except 02 but thats the point), they felt genuinely human. Its optimism was something I appreciated, that you could start over and make something new in life. It really could have done without the stupid fucking aliens, humanity's leaders were already being built up as the antagonists for dooming the human race to permanent stasis and a dying planet. There's just no justifiable reason for that shit.
