It's a reward for risking her life for so long, but has severe limitations, and almost immediately she faces creatures that can kill even immortal creatures so she has to go even further beyond the basic skill to make her own version of it, and then she loses it altogether anyway as the series does a genre shift.The real jump the shark moment was fighting UFOs anyway.The only downside to that portion of the story is that it slows down tremendously to allow infodumps and side character development and unfortunately the author didn't write a lot of development for kumo during that time. The upside is that kumo's internal dialogue is still funny so while it's a low point in the story it's still worth reading.

When Rimuru only just came out of the cave, someone like Phobio was probably still stronger than him and even after eating Ifrit, Phobio would still "give Rimuru trouble in a fight", only after devouring the Orc Disaster, did he finally completely outmatch Phobio.
