With daz you can pick a character put on clothes put in a backgorund add lights and render. That is what it is for.

Maya, Blender, Max, Zbrush, etc. are the tools to make any 3D thing you can imagine and you can do everything daz can but with more control and options.

If all you want is pose a woman and make a render, than there is no need to learn all the complicated shit necessary to do that in Maya or any other equivalent program.

It's the ease of use of the content library that makes it successful.
It's meant to be quick drag and drop character, hair, clothes, pose, backdrop, light setup and render.
Still there is no single aspect of the daz program that isn't inferior to most 3D creation software.

There's nothing, really, to change. It's one of the less painful and more intuitive UI out there. A large part of the appeal for noobs.

At least for primary functions. I hate that some advanced stuff is hidden behind literally 8 steps and submenus going into submenus that you can only find by clicking on two secret pixels on some circumstances when you do the ritual right, but I'm pretty sure it could be solved by an "advanced" tab that really should exist.

Now that I think about it, Daz has really accumulated quite a depth through the years, though most is so painfully tucked away it's a surprise people still remember it exists.

For some reasons, 60% of all Daz figures' faces are big lipped heart shaped bimbo with lips like they want to suck you cock raw and gulp all the sperm. 20% are ugly tryhards manfaces "I did something else for a change", when that something else is ugly. The last 20% are east european faces with that kind of overlong thin mouths that some people find attractive for some reasons, and it's not overdone, mind you, there is only approximately only 180 gen8 figures doing the same thing.

Another 20% for asian faces. That's more than 100% but asian faces are for extras and people that like them.

Eyes of the beholder is in the beauty, that kind of stuff, so just browse a large amount of figures until you don't find one that is 1., 2., 3., or 4.

There are 2 DAZ character "artists" who don't show signs of being mentally ill or doing drugs, HID3D and Vicey3D. P3D has few ok faces, digitaltouch if you are into asian bimbo stuff. Also, DAZ has 0 decent black characters.

Anyway, using actual 3d rendered faces for finished render is obsolete, what you should do is facescan a photo into gen8 figure, apply separate fix to degoblinize it, apply skin texture made by someone who actually understands how Iray shading works, and then roop the original photo or inpaint in SD.

For those who don't know, albedo is a fullbright pass that the Intel denoiser can use to tell what is noise and what isn't noise (but real textures) in the final image. It can be used to denoise 20 iterations renders and have something pretty much unrecognizable from the fully rendered image.

Daz and Nvidia refuse to do albedo output, for some reasons (which is mostly selling more cards, and refusing to admit the Intel denoiser is better from the part of Nvidia, and Daz being lazy mormons).

Im trying to make a Visual Novel but Iray takes forever to render in my pc, so I'm thinking I'll import the DAZ characters to Blender and render there in EEVEE, which takes a lot less time to render (I'd render with cycles but it always tell me I run out of GPU memory). If you just want your daz characters rendered fast forget blender.
There's a relatively decent daz to unreal bridge. It takes a while to get your bone orientations right if you want animation and hd subdiv offsets aren't preserved.
But for your purposes it's good enough and unreal is 100x faster than blender with lumen cinematic and 5x faster with path tracing.

What's a good way to gauge when to turn on the denoiser?

I was going off the convergence ratio. I have a scene with multiple cameras, did a test to see when the Convergence is about 25%, and then I would set about 50 frames of denoise after that point.

My only problem is the typical. Low light, hair taking forever to render, and angle/rim light taking forever, Pic related.

Is there a better gauge? Should I wait till 50%? Lower ISO and expose the canvas more? I'm kind of just throwing ideas at the wall. I know low lights are the kryptonite for daz, but it can surely be down with compromise.

Nvidia's denoiser is shit at small details like skin imperfections, because it can't distinguish between what's part of a texture and what's noise. There are ways to have a texture aware denoiser (cough, cough, Albedo), but Nvidia doesn't give a shit.

So far, it means denoised images tends to have a slightly plastic look, unless you literally runs the rendering for 99% convergence (upon which why are you even denoising to begin with). The result can be more or less acceptable, depending on what you strive for.

In any case the denoiser does not affect the convergence ratio, and can be plugged equally at any time, with no incidence on the final render. It tends to take a big amount of GPU ram when it is activated and to slightly stall your rendering at each denoising pass, but it isn't that noticeable. So you can just activate it at rendering pass 8 and keep it on.

TL;DR unless memory is a problem, if you want your denoising, just activate it and stop the rendering when it looks "good enough". But don't expect miracles in quality.

you can build your own shaders or use already existing ones (mostly done by Nvidia) and just change the variables (textures, nodes and values).
but really its designed around just using Nvidia Iray´s shaders and simply using your own textures and values. I use photoshop and 3dcoat for my textures and 90% just use the Nvidia shaders with my own inputs (rarely I need something specific not covered here).
You got a background in blender, max or such then its pretty straight forward.
