Hello /3/. I am interested in designing custom housings for my game consoles and selling the designs online. Where should I look to get started? What software should I use?

Fusion 360 is your best bet.

What about inventor or other alternatives?

You can use inventor, but Fusion 360 is free, does what you need, isn't that hard to learn (of course, there are advanced topics) and works well with 3d printing(you will HAVE to learn the basics of creating designs suitable for printing).
