Im learning 3d modeling and for practise I want to create my favourite cartoon character. Would someone be able to draw or help me find Brooklyn from Gargoyles in a full body T-pose, one head-on and one to the side?
>>
you don't need a full turnaround to make something, just start blocking out your shapes and continually rotate and evaluate your model, working from an orthographic reference can be a nice timesaver but you have to go off the script eventually to make it look right in 3d anyway.

Collect a bunch of screencaps of him at different angles from the cartoon and get sculpting.
>>
>>835370
Animate him getting destroyed by a horse cock
>>
"oh lo0k!!! Itss that funee deman frum Helubva Bosss!!!"
>>
>>835412
I hate that show so much
>>
OP, I just PM'd you the Raw Scans
>>
>>835370

They're pretty much just humanoids. If you are familiar with the features of the human body, you should be fine.

Op here, as someone who can't draw, I drew my own reference, did I get it right or do I need to fix the proportions?
>>

Not too bad

Just trace existing images that fit the bodytype and add the feet and head...

OP here, this is what I got so far and Im stuck,
>>
>>836408
you're first mistake was using maya
>>
>>836411
Maya is what im required to learn
>>
>>836408
then just keep going. if you're learning 3d modelling, just brute force it. even if it looks like shit, you can go back and tweak it

sculpt then retopo

>>836408
Why aren't you sculpting it.
>>
>>836430

>>
>>836408
everything else wrong with this aside, you'll save a lot of time if you only model half and apply the mirror modifyer. i assume maya has one of those

When Im done Im going to make a vr chat avatar out of it.

as I understand it:

1: make cube,
2: extrude bottom and left and right.
3: translate edges (i think)
4: more extrude
5: even more extrude.
6: I m lost here, do I simply extrude in the way you have shown in the top middle pick, will that turn into top right pic?
(also edge loop)
7: I don't know if I want a slouch, my drawing was more of a guideline.
>>
how long have you been using maya? this is your first character?
>>
>>839522
6: extrude the selected faces shown in top right.
in the middle is the result and i marked green where the arms will come off and pink where the neck will come off to help have an idea where the points will be translated.
last go to modeling toolkit select connect and click on one of the more stretched edges in the middle of the torso and press enter to add an edge loop.
>>
>>839575
This is my first charactr
>>
>>839228
Do people still use this technique for anthropogenic characters?
Are they desperate hipsters or are they purposely wasting their own time as a form of penitence or something?
>>
this guy >>839679 is a homosexual don't listen to him
>>
>>839228
I don't understand step 3
>>
>>839589
to be sure,
top left: select faces on both sides.

top middle: extrude function and adjust thickness to 0.2

I don't know how to get it to look like the top right, If I go up on the y axis like shown it goes all over the place.

(thanks for been patient with me)
>>
>>839679
What advanced technique do you use then, mr. 400 IQ? Can i see your glorious work?

is the symmetry on? first thing you have to do is turn the symmetry on.
if the symmetry is on everything you do to one side will be mirrored to the other side.

you selected the exact faces that is in the top left image

extrude those faces, the thickness does not matter, just add a little so the points is not on top of each other.

then select the points and move them into place like top right image.

nice
to add edge loops you can press CTRL+SHIFT+X to activate multi-cut tool and with CTRL pressed click to add loops.

after extrude you can use the sculpting tools to move vertices faster with the grab tool and after moving vertices you find that the points are jagged use the relax tool.

when you're modeling the SHIFT+right click menu is very useful you can find the circularize components there, make a selection and then press SHIFT+right click.
>>
>>840516
>>840517

Use blender instead, it's becoming the industry standard at an alarming rate. Maya is pretty much obsolete by now.

move the points to follow the contour of the torso leaving no complete flat areas, like it is on the sides. see images like the torso looks from the side and fix it where you see fit.

the legs looks ok, needs to fix the shape only.

Thanks, what im has me caught up atm is a college project to design an OC video-game character with an attack animation and environment. Flotsam the armadillo pirate,
>>
>>846035
Give him one normal arm so he can still manipulate ropes and the like normally.
Hard to be a rope swingin' swashbucklin' pirate with both arms missing.
Or I guess you could make really quick at wrapping them around an arm, and make lever usage involve hacking off the end to turn it so that not being able to reuse them makes sense.
>>
>>840604
As a fellow blendlet myself, I recommend that OP keep using the software that he already is learning. It's not good practice to swap to another software while you're in the middle of learning the basics.
