Let's have a thread for discussing modeling VRchat avatars, worlds and assets.

>>
>>788323
/3/ is a really slow board, so if you want your thread to be a success (and I think VRChat is an on-topic and interesting discussion that is worth having its own thread for)
You need to make a bunch of on-topic posts with additional resources, links, webms, and stuff and maybe some low-key titties.
>>
>>788323
There's going to be more people in the vrchat general willing to discuss making things for vrchat, than you'd find here on /3/, it seems like an unnecessary move imo.

>Let's have a thread for discussing modeling
>pic related, an MMD model ported to vrchat
we're already off to a good start.

Normally I'd agree with you but their server costs are fucking enormous so they don't really have a choice.

$9.99 a month isn't too bad.

such a shame we still don't have reliable and stable self hosted / p2p

Citation needed.

Every new update breaks the previous generation of avatars so why bother?
>>
>>789050
Maybe if they didn't spend their tens of millions on hookers and vacations they'd have money to operate their servers.
>>
>>789050
>gets millions from HTC
>muh server costs
Yeah, just pay up goyim, we're running out of storage and can't afford more with all those millions we pocketed

Finishing up this and now working on weight painting it. Is there any good guide on weight painting in Blender? I'm finding it a struggle to get things looking good. Don't know a good workflow for it.
>>
>>790621
parent the armature with automatic weights first just to get the vertex groups in then modify it, set your viewport to "flat" and "single" to see the weight values without textures and shading showing you false colours.

The straight up draw brush in weight painting mode is pretty useless I'd suggest using a combination of the smear brush and the blur tool. Hard drawing an edge out where you want it to bend then then blurring it = smooth gradient.

Move your own body parts and feel the surface of your body to get a grip on how you should weight things, for example, your ribcage shouldn't move every time you move your arm up and down.

You can edit the weights in edit mode by turning on view vertex weights under the viewport settings and just selecting loops and manually applying the values, this is another good way to get smooth deformation.

weight painting is all about practice and it WILL suck, just keep going.

Does anyone have it?

Fucking pathetic.
Second Life exists since fucking 2003 and if you put a bit of effort into it you can use it completely free.
>>
*ahem* ...Dear MMD porters...
OPTIMISE YOUR FUCKING MODELS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
DONT YOU REALISE PUTTING SO MUCH BULLSHIT ON YOUR AVATAR WITH OVER 10 MILLION TRIES FUCKING KILLS PEOPLE? MD IS AN ANIMATION PROGRAM YOU DUMB FUCK AND I HOPE YOU DIE INSTANTLY REEEEEEEEEEEEE

show me your nanachi models
>>
>>794763
google "unity mecanim" and look at the bone slots, vrchat doesn't use upper chest (chest only)

There we go, that's how to make your rig, the only other thing to look out for is by default it expects the eye bones to be pointing up instead of forward (although if you do it forward it's an easy fix in the avatar descriptor)
>>
>>792183
It was originally just an Ooka Miko with shifted pupils. The unmodified Ooka is officially released for free.
>>
>>794833
Mokuri exists to stop people from making modified Nanachis

>>792185
Second Life is also ugly as shit, runs like garbage, has no proper VR support and has an entire ecosystem of low effort leeches and an outdated property model.
>>
>>795305
>Mokuri
no one uses Mokuri. Everyone yes nanachi. It works better as a generic base

it's 2020, where is our modern day decentralized, p2p anachro-VR cyberspace??? why do i have to kowtow to corporations and entities to be a catgirl femboy online

technology has failed us
>>

Some essential assets I use:
- Vroid Hub for models and textures
- Cats Blender plugin for rigging
- Dynamic Bone and for hair, clothes, and boobs
- Mixamo for gestures and dance moves
- UMotion Pro for customizing animations
- Anime Girl Idle Animations
- Real Toon for shading

Has anyone else had a problem with xiexie shader lately? Seems like the recent models i uploaded that use it lose the toon ramp and highlights in game, almost like it becomes flat lit.

Some autists are working on a metaverse thing running on godot engine https://v-sekai.org/, I wish them luck. There's also people trying to keep a high fidelity fork alive https://vircadia.com/ . hubs.mozilla.com/ is also open source and surprisingly good for browsershit. https://avatars.exokit.org/ is some other autist's attempt to do metaverse stuff in browser. afaict it's kind of dead, but I know the author was a cryptoshitter so maybe it'll get revived soon.

Any good way to replace a texture on a XPS model with a similar one? (The texture in question looks like a decal/sticker on the model)

VRC is unironically over the moment I release this video. I have so many people on video now and it really shows what a cesspool this app really is. By the time I'm done this company will fold. You were warned
