Would having a glasses free 3D monitor help with 3D modeling?
>>
Slightly but the future is probably VR
>>
>>771221
VR is a stupid fad
>>
>>771221
he said glasses free. VR is glasses x 1,000,000

idiot
>>
>>771223
That's what they said of your mom and they are still banging her twenty years after high school.
>>
But a glasses free stereoscopic 3D monitor would be much easier to model with. Also is it possible for vertices to be differently colored according to how deep into the screen they are kind of like a choropleth world or land map?
>>
>>771230
>would be much easier to model with
Not really, unless you also get a device that can allow you to move your cursor in 3D space.
>>
>>771236
just use a simple raycast. woila

3d monitors came out for a long time already yet no notable production adopted this in their workflow so there's no practical benefits

not glasses free, dumbass

How, teach me.
>>
>>771448
yes glasses free 3d monitors exist.
The reason no one lieks them is the image only looks 3d if you keep your head exactly inside a very small window right in front of it. Have you not heard of the 3DS? There was a 3d smart phone too with a stero camera.

Maybe OP is talking about true 3D displays instead of stereoscopic ones.
>>
>>771478
thats not real 3d. look up linus tech tips video on holographic display. he was blown away by it, said it was incredible. i would post the link but i am on my iphone

The added depth perception would make finding errors easier so it would have a practical benefit
>>771478
Nintendo solved that problem kind of with the New 3DS where they incorporated eye tracking into the 3D glasses free effect
>>
>>771687
>The added depth perception would make finding errors easier so it would have a practical benefit
the programs ui would have to be re-written to take advantage of this or else it would be very jarring to have a 2d ui
>>
>>771721
Wouldn't it be like every other UI if its 2D?
>>
>>771557
That's a light-field display though, totally different tech. Not to mention far from viable right now too.
>>
>>771923
the Ui would have to be 3d stereo. Its like when you preview blender or maya viewport in stereo mode but the remainder of the interface is in 2d. Its horrible.

I chuckled
>>
>>771219
I would buy something like that for showcase purposes if it weren't so exorbitantly expensive at this point. That being said I doubt it makes any difference in modeling
https://youtu.be/-EA2FQXs4dw?t=249
>>
>>
>>773144
I mean it is easier to recognize if things fit together better, on a 2D screen you'd have to change perspectives for something that you see on a 3D screen at first glance
>>
>>
>>771221
There's some add-ons that let you do blender shit in vr, if I could have proper controls for hand tracking to make precise work tools like actual clay sculpting, I'd have an infinite boner. They're not at that point though. I have done janky ass mocap animations using an index and knuckles with 3 trackers extra trackers, that was a neat process but a bitch to try and clean
>>
>>773714
The Oculus Quest series of VR headset support hand tracking.

we already have VR headsets, problem is the controls

Holodisplays are in r&d gen 4 expect consumer gen1 to get demo at ces2021. As with all first gen consumer products you should observe the early adopter woes and decide if its worthwhile or not. I honestly think not as sculpting in VR /AR is advancing much faster, and for animation if you arnt just touching up mocap you're doing it wrong
>>
>>773431
That's not true? Like the whole point of orthographic view is to remove the perspective problem
If you mean elements of the model will obstruct your view of other elements while aligning them, you'll still have to rotate the view regardless (or turn those elements see-thru with clipping/culling/whatever)

Thank you, I wasn't going to say anything for fear that I couldn't see the emperor's new close because I was unfit for my job
also I was hoping maybe OP's legos related to 3d holo monitors or something
>>
>>771576
ive actually tried this, maya suppourts them nativly lol as with marmoset 3.
It was cool for a bit but really wasnt useful as far as i could tell.

I might try this again sometime this week now that ive been reminded of it. anywho in my oppinion i dont think its benificial to model in 3d, not even in vr, but i would recomend checking out your model every couple hours with the 3d glasses to check the form. pretty based

sure, just invent a 3D cursor
>>
>>

VR modeling would only be useful for engineering teams trying out shit in realtime or sculpting. Everything else can be done on a 2D screen just fine.
>>
>>779926
Vr is much less precise though, alone because you have to hold you hands in the air without any resistance, with 3d you get the same benefits VR has visually while also having the familiar tools for everything.
