I can't find a single word or words that describe this genera, but this thread is for those strange, eerie, mysterious, and all together fascinating sounds that man has recorded.
From space to vibrating trees and moving tectonics, to massive Russian radars. Anything that has a certain level of singular loneliness, and isolation from anything remotely human or normal in any way.

I just love these kinds of sounds, especially from space. They give me this feeling that whatever creates these sounds, has no care for human existence at all. Space abides by the cosmic laws, and whether it tears you to shreds or not is of no concern to it. You can float unheeded past a black-hole, and hear the beat of the heart of darkness as it marches onward from nothingness into oblivion.

I can't resist being a bitch here.
Those "space sounds" aren't sounds.
They are measurements of electromagnetic fields or waves that do not relate to sound waves at all. They're translated by sound engineers to resemble sound waves. This is a way to present data that would seem completely boring to the public in an interesting manner.
It sounds cool but the sound is actually just a maneuver to capture interest and create funding.

Please correct me if I'm worng.
>>
>>2794576
Basically this. However, they did not make it sound ultra spooky on purpose, they just transformed the data into audio and came out spooky as a coincidence.
Then again any sort of data that's not meant to be audio will sound spooky as hell when transformed to audio. I remember some sega CD's had a warning built in them in case you put em on a cd player, the player would read the raw data as audio and it would be so loud it could damage your speakers, and your ears.
>>
>>2794054
why does it sound like hell
>>
>>2794755
>However, they did not make it sound ultra spooky on purpose
Well, they did speed it up to the point where it doesn't sound like the exact same frequency over the course of days but rather like something from a scifi movie.
Other than that good comparison with the sega CDs.

webm related is recording of electrophonic sound made by a meteor - sound occurs at same time as meteor enters atmosphere and not related to normal sound that travels much slower. Listen at point E in webm, or use Audacity.
Details: http://vinkovic.org/Projects/Electrophones/
>Meteors produce two types of sound---normal and anomalous (electrophonic). The latter lack a time delay between the visual appearance of the meteor and audible detection on the ground, an apparent contradiction recognized more than 300 years ago.
I remember hearing these sounds over 20 years ago when meteor watching, but at the time most were skeptical. It's like a faint crinkling.

another one from NOAA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/52-hertz_whale
>The 52-hertz whale is an individual whale of unidentified species, which calls at the very unusual frequency of 52 Hz. This pitch is a much higher frequency than that of the other whale species with migration patterns most closely resembling this whale's[1] – the blue whale (10–39 Hz)[2] or fin whale (20 Hz).[1] It has been detected regularly in many locations since the late 1980s and appears to be the only individual emitting a whale call at this frequency. It has been described as the "world's loneliest whale".

Yeah, lots of people do think its sound. Just like a lot of people actually thought it was a picture of a blackhole (thing in the news recently) when really it was just a computer program that translated sensor data into pixels. There was no "picture" in any traditional sense but the news reporters did not know this.

They're designed like that, it carries better and isn't confused for a vehicle's siren.
>>
>>2816326
Absolutely not. These are radio waves. Radio waves are electromagnetic, they're light. Photons.

You can't hear photons.

What they do is they match the frequencies of the light to the audible spectrum of frequencies that humans can hear. It really isn't even comparable, and they often compress days/months of recorded data into a few seconds of audio.

It's kind of neat, but it's really disingenuous

"The "Door to Hell" is a natural gas field in Derweze, Turkmenistan, that collapsed into an underground cavern in 1971, becoming a natural gas crater. Geologists set it on fire to prevent the spread of methane gas, and it has been burning continuously since then. The diameter of the crater is 69 metres (226 ft), and its depth is 30 metres (98 ft)."

They're not broken. They sound that way so you can't tune them out. I think no tone is repeated exactly.
>>
>>2794047
I think this probably counts, the first ever recorded sounds starting from about 1857, recorded by Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville experimenting with "phonautography". Predating Edison's wax cylinders, it's a visual recording of a waveform on paper, only really designed to be looked at, not played back, but with modern technology, we can translate it back into sound.

This first webm'll just sound like noise, next webm the sounds start getting actually discernable.

>>
>>2842535
You have no idea what you're talking about, most tripfags are just attention whores, not labeling work as theirs when it clearly isn't.
>>
>>2842542
Yeah exactly they're attention whores. They want to be known as the guy who posts all the good webms, which is bullshit, because they didn't create them. They downloaded someone else's stuff, and then reuploaded it here, and are using a trip so that people will falsely give their thanks to them, rather than the original creator. I've created webms for 4chan before, and I'd love to see them reposted, because it means somebody appreciated my effort. However, I'd be pissed as fuck if I saw somebody thanking some attention whoring retard tripfag for doing nothing but fill in a bunch of captchas while their 4chanX script dumps a folder. Literally the only reason to use a trip when dumping webms is if you want those posts to be tied to your virtual reputation, and you don't deserve to have a reputation for posting somebody else’s content.
>>
>>2842552
Claiming the credit for someone's work and posting someone else's work to make yourself look good are two totally different things but I agree pretty much all tripfags are like that
