The actual lie is "9 GAMES"
>be 28 year old faggot who grew up on pokemon>Make comic about times he didnt' even experience>yepppp, that's what it must have been like!
>>5804038ha ha #quirky90skid ha ha
>>5804068How did it feel like? What were your expectations? Were people back then really that braindead that they would enjoy such simplistic "games"?
>>5804080when atari 2600 came out arcade games were already featuring NES-tier and above graphics and soundspeople jumped shit after "crash" and after japanese started offering affordable consoles with arcade quality games
>>5804080It's the opposite zoomer, people could imagine things with their brains. Also video games were a simple diversion like connect 4 or battleship, they weren't the multi-hour epics that would come years later.
>>5804038There's that thing called state-of-the-art. It's not like you didn't know what graphics you were gonna get and it was AWESOME! I can CONTROL what is happening on the screen, HOLY SHIT!!Also there's the thing called imagination, sure it's just a block on screen but it is MY block on screen and it is just a representation, it's really an awesome sports car with big guns and a flamethrower!!1
>>5804038It's funny how zoomers think previous generations were as stupid and gullible as they are. Especially considering how much love accusing everyone of projecting.
>>5804038This is why I refuse to play anything before the 16 bit era. Even as a kid when the SNES was new, I could tell the NES was barely tolerable while Atari graphics were utter shit.
>>5804068Based and 2600pilled post.
>>5804038>dinosaurs, ninjas, and sports cars>2600That cover would be more appropriate for an NES game. 2600 titles had more elaborate paintings of space shit that gave you the imagination of what the game *should* depict.>>5804068Pretty much this. The only thing worse than constant, circle jerking nostalgia is constant, circle jerking, and usually anachronistic, nostalgia from millennials/zoomers over shit they didn't even experience second hand. Even this shithole succumbs to it.
>>5804256Congrats for being the type of zoomlennial dumbass that comic was made for.
>>5804272>constant, circle jerking, and usually anachronistic, nostalgia from millennials/zoomers over shit they didn't even experience second handI find it reassuring for kids to enjoy stuff that was way before their time
in 10 years GTAV will be considered a simplistic shitty dated game, you're already seeing it with the original GTAs even though they were leaps and bounds ahead of oldschool Atari/arcade games. Or even better, compared to textbased DOS games.
>>5804068I was born in 87 so I missed the actual Atari era, but all I had until I was 7 or so was a hand-me-down 2600 I got from my dad. I still remember sitting and playing River Raid and Mario Bros from hours on end.
>>5804429Oooh I like this art. I want to cosplay as her now.
>>5804456I hope someone recognizes who you are dressed as. The actual game is featureless sprite art.
>>5804464I was down with her sprite's "features". Seems like the costume may be a little revealing in the crotch to conceal sevenleaf's dick though.
>>5804440He's not wrong. Perceptions change - or another way to say it - games age. Why, just last week I popped the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance in just to revisit it after playing 3. That game was hot shit with me and my college buddies back in the day, but it seemed primitive to me now.
>>5804256Most snes games are just shittier nes games with better graphics tho
>>5804470Ah please, these fools rock out with beards out now, they don't give a fuck about hiding the bulge anymore. You point it out and they'll just sic someone in authority who's pandering to the penis-ladies, and away you go.There's always at least one.
>>5804347Or at least try them, as for the comic...meh, didn't grow up in the Atari era, but i highly doubt any kid would be fooled unless they were trying their very first video game and had never even looked at someone playing an Atari 2600 game.
>>5804272Get raped by a pack of Kum brains you girl gamer piece of shit
>>5804429>>5804470That is a pretty cool game, played thru the trilogy a few months back
Fun fact, Jill Of The Jungle was made by Epic and Tim Sweeney worked on it, those were the days when they could do more than just Unreal, Gears Of War and Fortnite.Oh, and Tim Sweeney actually worked on games, rather than maybe an engine or going online to defend his digital store.
>>5804529If Sweeney is so successful ,why doesn't Jill get a modern platform game? With the right set of muscular thighs, she could be bigger than Tomb Raider.
>>5804440It's true. And the worst of all is that dated non-retro games are all soulless, on top of that.Going for "realistic" graphics was surely a mistake. Not to mentiong homogenizing gameplay with "open world" shenanigans. People only played GTA because "you can go and do anywhere", and because it looked modern at the time.
>>5804068This is much better
>>5804068Yep, it's easy to spot who started gaming in 2007.
>Year is 2050>Be le me>Grew up on le brainVR pokemon>XBrainBox by MicroChinaSoft(tm)>Games get beamed directly into my brain>Take time out of writing pokemon fanfics to make a comic>Ha ha look at these games that came before me! so different and BAD I just can't relate!>Why didn't these EjaculateCerebrums just play Xbrainbox?? haha they were so stupid!>9 billion upvotes on facebookitt
>>5804495That's not 2600 you fucking tard.
>>5804038This but with Japanese RPGs. You look at the Langrisser cover and you think "shit, those are the most amazing boobs ever" but then you play it and it's super deformed grunts beating each other with sticks.
>OMG WHAT WERE THEY THINKINGGGGGGG????????
>>5804584>Year is 2050>WFT, I can't find any of the Pokemon in this game!
>lol threadIt's getting worse here every day
>>5804080My father used to own an electronics store and at least his perspective was that it was a distraction, not something that you would play for more than 30 minutes at a time
>>5804440I knew a faggot some years ago who was always boasting about "how wonderful the PS3 graphics looks like, I don't even know how you like playing that 80's shit". Nowadays he's boasting about "how wonderful the PS4 graphics looks like, I don't know how can you tolerate shit like the PS3 graphics and older crap". I'm sure he's jizzing his pants right now thinking about how ebin the new generation of consoles will be, even though games didn't change that much since the end of 6th gen
>>5804929I don't know why, but a lot of people are like that with games. They are quick to drop and disown a game if the next hot shit comes out. I remember a group of friends I used to hang out with did that. It usually went like this:>Halo 1 is out>DUDE THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER! I'M FORMING THE HALO POLICE!>Halo 2 comes out>DUDE THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER! I'M CREATED THE HALO CODE FOR US TO ABIDE BY IN MULTIPLAYER. WE DON'T HAVE TO EVER PLAY ANOTHER GAME AGAIN. THIS IS PERFECT AND HAS NO GLITCHES!>I kinda liked Halo 1 better>Dude, Halo 1 is so gayAs soon as COD4 came out, that series went from the most popular at the time to dead in the water in mere seconds.
>>5804038Even worse now, at least back then it was just the dramatic painting on the cover. Now its cut pre-release content, pre-rendered "gameplay footage", downgraded graphics, etc, feeding a far mightier hype machine than in the 80s/90s.
>>5804080>How did it feel like?>What were your expectations?
>>5805014Halo 2 DID have largely expanded multiplayer options at the cost of much shorter single player campaign, which some people preferred.
>>5805154Halo 3 on the other hand was purely marketing, they even removed features like 3 and 4 player split screen.
Halo has never been dead in the water. It's floundered with the changing hands bungie to 343 and the release of Halo 4 and 5 even had some backlash. However the master chief collection coming to pc is huge.>>5805163Bungie added forge and online co op to Halo 3.
>>5805163>removed 3 and four player split screenLies. Used to play Halo 3 with my younger brothers all the time locally.https://youtu.be/HT_OfBznxFg
>>5804038>>5804050Did Frank con an entire generation of gamers?
>>5804429>>5804456IMAGINE THE SMELL...
>>5804639Those hands always looked like pure shit though
>>5805163>they even removed features like 3 and 4 player split screen. Why are you so blatantly lying?
>>5804906Eat the pig!Eat the pig!Zniggy, zniggy, zniggy, znig!
probably the worst offender (yes I did have this, gen-x here)
>>5804038That's not how it worked. Kids used their imaginations, and the concept of video games was magical all by itself.
>>5804038I can understand the graphics being fine for then, but the gameplay was always so simplistic back then. Everything was always just a top down/ sideways space shooter reskin game. I always hated those, and if I were born back then, I don't think I ever would have gotten into video games so much.
>>5804639overworld sprites have been chibi for the longest
>>5804080it wasn't simplistic because it was the best of the time. Playing vidya was something of the future, that's why all the consoles had sick futuristic designs.Plus watching the cover art was cool when you wasn't playing.
>>5804495>7800Wow, you showed me, zoomer nigger.>>5804347The problem is these dumbass kids come in just to enjoy old shit before their time so they can looked cultured and hip, and in turn they spout off a bunch of dumb shit that shows just how underage they are. Case in point: VHS cucks. These zoomer niggers just jerk off to MUH 80S MUH 90S AESTHETIC for pure self-indulgence and you're just going to make it worse.
>>5805453That art is so "Horizons at Epcot Center"
>>5805479>I always hated those, and if I were born back then, I don't think I ever would have gotten into video games so much.Maybe if you were alive back then you'd understand why people played them. This is a typical zoomer response.
This totally happened to me as a toddler with pic related here. I remember asking my pops why it didn't look like the cover but I don't remember what he said.
>>5805589He probably said “piss off ya little faggot”
>>5805556Even when I was extremely young and played barely any video games, I hated the space shooter games that were given to me. It just never interested me as a gameplay type.
>>5805553I remember that ride, smelled like orange cleaner the whole way through.I can totally see the resemblance though, hats off to your good eye.
>>5805589I played warlords with my dad. We teamed up against the computer guys then he let me beat him. Rip
>>5805456I remember being 7 or 8, and playing Friday 13th on Amstrad CPC. I was CONVINCED it looked "just like a movie" and "better than an Amiga game" and I was like "wow mum look" but she just tutted
>>5804440epick wojack pickture
>>5805267The thing that fucks me up the most are those sneakers the "ninja" is wearing.
How will Atari boomers ever recover?
>>5804080no people are braindead now because the graphics have replaced their imagination/visualization part of the brain.
>>5805932how were you supposed to play that game? I had a copy on spectrum with no instructions, I couldn't figure it out.
>>5806303What else would you wear on a scooter?
>>5805932This used to scare the everloving fuck out of me as a kid.
>>5805667I mean it's not just space shooters, not even the most popular games, and Yars' Revenge is pretty different from Asteroids (for example) anyway
>>5804068I started with the SNES and still can enjoy Atari games. It's just fascinating how tech evolved along the years and what devs could do.
>>5804072That would be the 80's zoom zoom.
>>5804639story of my life :(
>>5805267This seems so much like and most likely was developed with such a similar mindset to a Roblox game its eerie.
>>5805453I had this too, love/hate relationship with that cart.still remember trying to program pong as a kid, debugging was a bitch.
>>5804470How do you know she has a dick? She could be post-op for all you know. It's a lot easier to afford SRS these days.
>>5806839The artist is a 90s pokemon zoomer.
>>5807160this guy seems so much like a pedophile its scary
>>5805932From the thumbnail I thought it was a fucked up motivational poster at first
>>5804456give me your discord and let me see your butt
>>5804456Eat my shit you tranny whore.
>>5804080Even after the NES came out and I had it I would still beg my uncle to hook up his old Atari so I could play those games because as kid I didn't care and thought they were fun too.I remember having a blast playing that 4 player game where you have to protect your castle in the corner.
>>5807485Warlords. One of the best games on the system by far.
>>5805453I had this BITD too and remember having to wait a couple weeks to find a store that sold the keyboard controllers. A few months later my dad brought home our first computer, a TI-99/4A, so I could really learn how to program.
>>5807659>>5807397They refer to their dick pretty often and their tuck skills.I don't mind using "they" to indicate ambiguity even though I'm personally pretty conservative leaning.
>>5804906Ironically, that room might not be in the actual game as its shaping up.
>>5804068They'd have to be younger than 28. That's old enough to have had a Game Boy before GBC came out, and the GB had plenty of covers with that "problem".
that game was pretty much an rpg already
>>5807737no man the graphics on gameboy were actually great
>>5807397>sheThat's not how you spell "it"
>>5807730>american boxart of silius has the altered player sprite>euro boxart has the original raf world spriteWas the Euro version done before the American one?
>>5805456There was an image made a few years back that kinda sums it up well. Games back then were incredibly simplistic, but our childish imaginations filled in the blanks and made it magical. Nowadays games are trying to be as realistic as possible, but as adult we only see objectives and mechanics. Mind you, also doesn't help how little "game" is in a lost of western AAA stuff either!
>>5807986The European game uses that sprite too. Only the burger version has that doofy one.
>>5804038People don't get that cover art in vidya was meant to preload awesome graphics into something called IMAGINATION to compensate for abstract graphics, especially in the 2600 era. The brain filling in all gaps and making the experience richer overall should have been known by the average /vr/ poster but this place is filled with /v/edditors looking for that sweet sweet (You) karma. It can't be helped I guess.
>>5807243Please for the love of god create your own thread to talk about your experiences with it. I still can't wrap my mind around people actually trying to do anything with it, something incredibly limited compared to any hobbyist computer kit from the time or the later 8 bit micros.
>>5808145What about early SMS cover art aka clip art on graph paper?
>>58040383rd panel is your average itch.io game.
Why didn't they show how the game looked like on the back or on the manual?
>>5804068t. bitter 40-year-old
>>5804080Was playing and enjoying 2600 games in the mid to late 90s as a kid on those PS1 compilations because it turned out good gameplay is timeless.
>>5805453even though I know the 64 byte restriction on code is a direct consequence of the 2600's massive lack of RAM, it's still just a bit rough trying to consider getting anything done in less than nine lines of BASIC codethe lack of speed is one thing, but you can't do much of anything in the space allotted -- a 1k ZX81 sounds like an extravagant luxury compared to this thing
>>5804429this game was dank and also kind of horrifying
>>5804080>pacman and tetris existYou tell me
>>5805542Didn't some of those Ataris look like wooden radios, for the sake of looking like a piece of furniture rather than a futuristic device?
>>5804038That's a tired meme. It's so tired that Activision capitalized on it and made the covers for all their 2600 games look like the actual game, but in a really cool way. Activision 2600 cover art is the apogee of video game art. I love it.
>>5809628the thing is most commercial games on the atari were not much more sophisticated than wha you could do with this.Even though all you could do is a half-working pong clone. If they'd found a way to cram some additional RAM on the cartridge, it coud have been great.
>>5810483yes but at the same time the rustic look was reinforcing the futuristic elements.Like the aged tech design in the original SW trilogy. It was another time.
>>5804038My favorite 2600 art is this alternative cover for Cosmic Ark.Because this is exactly what you do in the game. Exactly. You control a little flying saucer thing and you rescue alien dinosaurs from planets and dodge meteors. You do every single thing you see on the cover here.Cosmic Ark needs to be remade. The issue is that the laser barriers start flashing too fast too soon. You only get 6 levels in or so before it gets bloody impossible. They needed some other kind of obstacle. The laser barrier should just be one of the barriers. Spinning laser barriers? Flame barriers? You could get creative and the path through the barriers could get more and more elaborate. The core gameplay is great, they just needed something other than the laser gates because the only difficulty curve is how fast the laser gates are flashing and eventually it's like 5 times a second and getting through is pure luck.
>>5804456>Oooh I like this art. I want to cosplay as her now.arent you the witch that was complaining about how your friend got molested by a wizard in /x/
>>5804481>Why, just last week I popped the first Marvel Ultimate Alliance in just to revisit it after playing 3. That game was hot shit with me and my college buddies back in the day, but it seemed primitive to me now.You just have shit taste is all.
>>5804929>"how wonderful the PS3 graphics looks like, I don't even know how you like playing that 80's shit". Nowadays he's boasting about "how wonderful the PS4 graphics looks like, I don't know how can you tolerate shit like the PS3 graphics and older crap". I'm sure he's jizzing his pants right now thinking about how ebin the new generation of consoles will be, even though games didn't change that much since the end of 6th genTo be absolutely fair. PS3 was a huge leap in graphics and is perhaps the last real leap in a console generation. PS4 really is not that much different other than Visual effects and small details.
>>5810492looks like modern art. somebody should make a game that looks exactly like those covers.rust-colored rainbows had a brief but popular run, seems like
GREATEST ATARI BOX ART EVERALL OTHER BOX ART CAN GO HOME
>>5805014Americans easily fall for the hype Machine and then become really disappointed easily
>>5804080The idea is that you'd play videogames less often back then. A simple game like that is decent for a burst.
>>5804080They had nothing else like it, it was a curiosity to them. It's like that other anon said ok in short bursts. It's the dudes that think they're great to play today that you have to watch out for. Having said that it depends what you mean. If you mean crappy ridiculous graphics like in the image then yes. On the other hand games like Jetpac and DK Arcade with how they were in DK64, old arcade games like Rally X, Breakout, Sokobon, that worm one, Space Invaders, those were classics and a lot of fun. Generic atari shit yeah.
>>5811116have you somehow missed all the aesthetic/retrowave shit that is being popped out these days?
>>5811213>smells like teen desperation
>>5811798Which looks absolutely nothing like the 70s aesthetic of that cover.
>>5804095>people could imagine things with their brainsYou can do that without spending money on products.>Also video games were a simple diversion like connect 4 or battleshipThank god Japan saved a great medium from such a dull fate.
>>5804482>shittierlmfao there isn't a single good NES game that didn't have a SNES equivalent with better everything, including gameplay.
>>5805552You sound like a human with no individual thought. Just a pre-programmed drone invented by edgy 4chan culture.
>>5814745That guy sounds like a warped teenager yeah
>>5814732You've got a whole lot of zoom there zoomer
>>5814718I'd rather he die early.
>>5817647haha i just lost the game
>>5804639I like his map model better desu
>>5804929anon that guy actually doesn't like anything he's just conforming to the group demographic that he believes he is already a part of
>>5804929>how [x] looks likeFUCKINGSTOP
>>5810505good idea, activision will get on it after modern warfare 69
>>5804038>This is what Millennials and Zoomer shitstains actually believeoh boy
>>5818129I mean, I'm a millennial and I got to experience this when I was like 5 in '95, and I sure as fuck didn't care about visuals, the interactivity was overwhelmingly satisfying.
>>5818152oh shit, is that MR ROBOT IN THE *something something* FACTORY!??!?
>>5804068You are wrong. The games he's making fun of were so bad they literally crashed the industry. most of them--almost all of them--were irrecoverably bad, often made by a single person on a completely unrealistic deadline.
