Thoughts on this? Never saw it mentioned here, why's that?

I hear it isn't very good, and don't know much about it other than the fact that they actually released it on Genesis
>>
fan made JRPGs are gross.
>>
>>5731078
its not worth it, imagine a game made by the people who play them
>>
>>5731083
It's a WRPG, as it's Western made.
>>
>>5731116
Why are you arguing this?
>>
>>5731121
I'm just saying it's not really a JRPG and shouldn't be held up to those standards.
>>
>>5731126
held down to those standards
>>
>>5731126
So what, you think they should get a pass to make garbage just because they aren't Japanese? amazing. People like you are the reason god doesn't visit us anymore
>>
>>5731063
It's one of those games that's so up its ass with nostalgia that it missed the point of why people liked those games to start with.
>>
>>5731063
We used to have threads about it but no one who actually played Pier Solar had much good to say about it and threads never went far.
>>
>Be me
>Buy this
>Fiiiiiiiiinally get it
>Plug it into Genesis
>Nice, nice.. good presentation
>Suddenly terrible overly expressive anime portraits
>derp derp story
>go outside
>enemy encounter!
>get my fucking ass kicked right off the bat
>so far the idea of enemies getting more difficult as you progress
>go into location
>look around a bit
>try to pick up item (melon or something)
>talk to farmer
>OH SO YOU STILL DID IT DIDNT YOU, WELL NO THING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!
>what? did they expect you to talk to the farmer first?
>talk again
>he still mad as fuck
>walk outside
>go into forest
>figure I'll grind a bit to make battles easier
>every battle feels like a fucking final game boss battle
>only 5 minutes into the game
>give up
>>
>>5731280
You kinda sound like a faggot and I've never even played Pier Solar.
>>
>>5731126
It's not a Japanese RPG but it's definitely a JRPG.

I was lucky enough to get a first print. But anyway, I've heard people say it sits next to Chrono trigger, ff6 and eb.
Mine came with a Sega CD audio expansion disc but I prefer the Genesis audio vs the CD audio.
>>

Lmao, imagine being proud of owning a shitty bootleg game that got panned everywhere.

Nice cope SEETHING poorfag.
>>
It's really, really not good.
>>
>>5731063
cuz its not retro and also its shit.
>>
>>5731063
it's a average jarpig, about as good as Earthbound or BoF
>>
>>5731462

This makes it sound like you didn't even play it, or that you haven't played FF6, CT etc.
>>
>>5731659
Actually unlike almost all the other games we're allowed to discuss here, it literally is retro.

And I thought you were joking
>>
I don't think they really tested it, it's just not very fun to play.
>>
It's alright, nothing special though. If this had actually released back in the 16-bit era it wouldn't have gotten much attention.
>>
>>5732154

I dunno about that, graphics wise its a nice game and Genesis didn't really have many good looking pure RPGs.
>>
It's so incredibly tedious. Every battle is agonizing slow, walking anywhere is slow, everything is a fucking maze, even the towns, and you can't just waltz around on the overworld, you have to go through some maps again. The story is either slow or never picks up, I managed to get through the desert and was then already bored to death.
>>
>>5731078
It's generic, in the worst way possible. Watermelon (the team) is a very capable team on the backend, but Pier Solar is just boring.
>>
>>5731425
dude its all these fucktard zoomers that think dark souls is a jrpg. japanese means japanese in style not literally from japan they need to understand that
>>
The story reads like it was written by trannies
>>
>what people expected
Nostalgiabait rpg in the vein of squareshit
>what people should have expected
Nostalgiabait rpg in the vein of Phantasy Star
The amount of baby coddling, hand holding and railroading in one is a little bit different than the other.
The game is merely ok, people that really shit on it wanted it to be inspired by something else in the first place.
>>
It's a shame that Fonzie is such a fucking failure of a man, because they could have easily reused all the art for another RPG. but one that doesn't suck this time.

I bought the original first print with the cd and beat the annoying eternal slip game. Zebbe told me my reward would be a discount on my next order. He isn't even there now so I wonder if they would still honor it.
>>

God damn the stupid shit people type on this board is remarkable at times. Let me guess, King's Field isn't a JRPG but it is a Japanese RPG?

Kill yourself you stupid piece of shit
>>
>go to youtube
>"pier solar longplay"
>1st result "one hour of gameplay"
>2nd result "beta longplay"

Not even youtubers could stand to play the final game to completion.
>>
It's on Steam BTW, if you don't feel like hunting down the cartridge version.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/286220/Pier_Solar_and_the_Great_Architects/

Most reviews are negative though lmao.

>inb4 normies can't appreciate muh faux-retro masterpiece
>>
>>5733510
I 100% can't tell if you're baiting or not.
>>
>>5731063
Why it's not mentioned here? It's not retro. It was released in 2010, and /vr/ is for games older than 2000.
>>
>>5734096

>video games on platforms launched in 1999 and earlier

suck it.
>>
>>5733525
>faux-retro
>>5734096
>It's not retro
Retro is an adjective not a noun. It refers to the styles of the past not to physically old objects.
Please learn English before ever having an opinion again. Retro is not a synonym for antique or vintage.
>>
>>5731063
It's not good. You're new and haven't been around long enough to see a thread about one of the many bad things that don't have 3 simultaneous threads in the catalog.
>>
>>5733510
Im not the guy youre replying to but youre right kings field is not a japanese style roleplaying game JRPG but it is a Japanese roleplaying game.

JRPG is a genre not a geographical classification. Kill yourself you stupid piece of shit
>>
>>5731063
>Never saw it mentioned here, why's that?
It's trash. It was originally some private fan-game for the forum users at eldilon inn or whatever the forum was called. Literally private forum jokes and references. Then they realized they could turn it into a full game and sell copies, so they did. Needless to say, a private joke turned into a videogame doesn't make for an amazing game.
>>
>>5731280
>buy JRPG
>get JRPG
>shocked, confused, and mad
hmm
>>
>>5735089
Shut Up & Jam Gaiden was the same thing but was still good. This game was just stupid because it had stupid devs.
>>
>>5735107
I like the part where he purchased a game after clearly doing no research and then probably spent more time writing a bitch post about how disappointed he was than how long he spent playing it.
