>>5416984>Womb RaiderWhat? No scan of that PC Gamer ad spoof of the same title? If I had a scanner, I'd put the image here.
>>5416984there exists not one good tomb raider game. prove me wrong
I LOVE shitty early PS1 graphics and yet Tomb Raider always turned me right the fuck off. I always said I was going to go back and play it because I like action, platforming, dungeons, etc. but I still just haven’t ever done it. If any game needed a reskin it’s not Spyro or Crash, it’s this game.
>>5417548Okay.>Tomb Raider 1-4Done.
>>5417562>reskinjust play it on pc, looks great there
>>5417562What are you, fucking high? Crash and Spyro both look like trash in comparison to the later Tomb Raider's and Tomb Raider 1 is about on par with Spyro 2 and Crash 3, and absolutely better looking than Spyro 1.
>>5416984So this ISN'T a porn thread?
>>5417587No.But it definately could use some cute Lara Croft pictures.
>>5417645Is this a modded model? Those shades look fancy.
>>5417645>>5417679I love 3s labyrinthine levels.
>>5417697Yeah, it was the coolest thing about this game. I remember feeling pround as fuck as a kid after I managed to beat the first India level. And then I saw South Pacific.
>>5417697Tomb Raider 3 didn't have labyrinthine levels though. It just had a lot of insta-death's. In fact, Tomb Raider 3 was a lot easier to navigate than 1 or 2, due to the more complex level geometry.
>>5417697>>5417784Let me correct my statement, MOST of Tomb Raider 3's levels are easy to navigate. Aldwych is a fucking nightmare.>>5417712South Pacific was probably the highlight of the entire game.
So... best levels in the original trilogy?TR - GreeceTRII - VeniceTRIII - South Pacific
>>5417810>>5417679>>5417645Any mods that raise the fog distance?
>>5417873TR1 - Probably GreeceTR2 - TibetTR3 - Maybe Antarctica. I actually really kinda liked Area 51, and South Pacific were also good. The only universally frustrating section is London.TR4 - Karnak
>>5417883Not sure how that would work. I think you would be able to see some enemies spawn in from a distance if the fog was gone.
>>5417889I always thought london was the best non tomb level in the games. The rig in II and Area 51 were too techie for my taste.
>>5417892Like the one in that screen >>5417810
>>5417873TR1 - Greece/EgyptTR2 - TibetTR3 - South Pacific or India.TR4 - I have played this game the least, so I can't tell.TR5 - I guess England section tried to do something different. If not Von Croy Tower.
>>5417898That pic is just dark because of the level.
>>5417893>Area 51 were too techie>not liking based Lara having a beer
>>5417898The "distance fog" has quite some distance on it, and it changes based on your environment in the game. Honestly it was barely noticeable.
>>5417587Probably not.I've fantasized about sexually assaulting Lara Croft ever since I was a young teen.
>>5417932I thought it's soda?
>>5417974Does getting her impaled on spikes by "accident" counts as a "sexual assault"? I liked the animation.
>>5417932Pretty sure english ladies don't drink beer
>>5417978Well they sell it at commissary's, so I don't see why it wouldn't be beer.
>>5417986She aint no lady
>>5417986American beer.I can see Lara sipping some classy Guiness.
>>5417985No. I'm a sex pervert, but I don't like guro or ryona. Also new Lara Croft is underwhelming, I like her hair, and she has a cute face, but her titties just aren't as big as they should be, her personality is retarded, and also the games kind of play shit.
>>5417993Just saying, it looks like a 90's budweiser can, with the metallic top and bottom and red middle.
>>5417992I have to disagree, despite her being disowned, she's still acting like a lady when she's not busy with shooting people.
>>5418009Damn, you're right.
>>5418004>not into ryonatoo bad, it's a top tier fetish. Tomb Raider has been pretty great for that kind of stuff. And like, I'm not super into petrification but the hand of midas thing was pretty hot back in the day.
>>5418098>ryonaI don't know what this word means. I just found her "spike death" animation funny for some reason. I guess I have a morbid sense of humor.
>>5418119It's fetishing when women get roughed up or beaten, basically anything that results in them crying out in pain. It can include, but doesn't necessary mean stuff that leads to death. Even though it sounds pretty misogynistic, generally media with ryona content actually treats women as actual characters, letting them get into actual fights/do actual work, get dirty, feel pain, be real people.
>>5418126You don't have to make up excuses. Just say that it makes you hard.
>>5418152there's no excuses there, I was explaining the fetish to the anon who didn't know what it was.
>>5418037Yeah, that was the point of old Lara's character. She was your a bit stereotypical snooty British adventurer - a bit like Sherlock Holmes. She never loses her cool, she has this "classy" aura about her and she's always gentlewomanly and polite even shen she shoots you in the face. At least that's how Core games portrayed her as.
The original soundtrack for the first three games was amazingThe theme song for the first game is beautifully melancholic for an action game https://youtube.com/watch?v=fIWLT0QVPzw
She has some nice front loaded anvils
>>5416984>http://www.trle.net/sc/search.phpSo out of curiosity I downloaded Cape Fear from here and it's okay, like a darker version of the first venice level. A lot of the levels that are available on the site look like complete garbage though (even the ones with high ratings). Anyone have any recs?
>>5418268The fuck is she wearing? There are some decent ones - I remember the "Arc of Covenant" level being good. Don't remember the name though.
>>5418275Some sort of boyshorts and a tube bra.
Raiding lmayoos in space
>>5417562tr1-pics of lara always remind me of gul dukat.
>>5418268Pearl of Kojada is nice looking, has some new features like text logs for story and new moves, and isn't obnoxiously difficult like a lot of maps on that site.http://www.trle.net/sc/levelfeatures.php?lid=3009
Best TR mods? I hate the combat focus of 2 and the trial and error of 3 and 5 but good level design would fix that.
>>5418209> for an action game There's very little action in it at all.
>>5416984Why do you guys like her?
>>5418632She's naturally perfect, but not in a way of mary sues who can't do no wrong, but in admirable way.
>>5417892Look at this Half Life level.
>>5418632She's... cool.In the same way James Bond and Indiana Jones is cool. She's this confident badass who can get away with shooting a t-rex in the face and pull off some impossible shit, just so she get to the bottom of the mystery. And I appreciate the fact that she's using her brains to solve problems. And on the other hand, she's not an indestructable Mary Sue. She fucks up constantly, gets captured on a daily basis, is usually outgunned and more often than not has to think her way through various hazards.I kinda liked the scene at the very end of TR2. After running through some crazy gauntlet with no time to rest, she has to kill the fucking dragon... and afterwards is so exhausted that she passes out on the spot. That was a cute little tidbit.
>>5418715>and afterwards is so exhausted that she passes out on the spotI think I've seen enough, but don't remember this part.
>>5418632I'm a sex pervert.
>>5418529Tr3 arguably has the best level design. Some levels I didn't die once
>>5418529>Good level design would fix the already great level designWhat did he mean by this
>>5418681Tomb Raider 3 released 1 day after Half Life.
>>5417584Imagine if we had a remaster of the psx tomb raiders like N Sane Trilogy, intact gameplay but HD updated graphics.wew
>>5418353Thanks! I'll check that one.>>5418529After browsing through the trle archive it seems that the levels made for competitions are your safest bet, because those are made with somewhat carefully put together assets that all competitors use. I can't find any up to date guides on which levels are worth playing thlugh, and the trle.net community seems a little too generous (and judging by the look of some levels, lacking in taste) for their ratings to be a reliable indicator.
>>5420341I find that the ones with higher ratings do tend to be better quality overall, but there's a split sort of in the community. Some really prefer the abstract puzzle solving, some really prefer the more traditionally structured, themed levels. The entire first page of highest rated maps for Tomb Raider 3 I think are completely recommendable. Were there any in particular that you found to be rated too generously?
>>5420073I would actually kill to see India, Maria Doria or South Pacific in HD. I know that MD is iffy as a level, but I still like the idea of this entire "underwater" section.
>>5420450After recently playing through that section, I can safely say The Deck is best level out of the entire underwater section, maybe because you spend the previous 3 FUCKING LEVELS, caught in the claustrophobic ship interior.I absolutely LOATHE Wreck of the Maria Doria (the level). 40 Fathoms and Living Quarters are eh.I think there's a bit of a revitalization of the series happening due to people slowly leaving the 80's nostalgia and entering the 90's nostalgia, so it could get an HD remake. Hopefully just textures though.
>>5420470Unless some dedicated modder that sleeps on money decides to do it, I wouldn't count on it.Squeenix seems to distance themselves from the old TR games for some reason - maybe they still think that this nu-Lara is the hot shit that everybody loves. Also, I don't think that would be profitable. Such games as Core TR won't fly with the modern audience who might get an aneurysm if they won't shoot something every five seconds. And old Tomb Raider games were always more focused on platforming, puzzles and exploration.
>>5420509There's still enough of the classic fans around that I could easily see an HD collection of the first 3 games selling a couple million units.Crash Bandicoot HD Trilogy sold 10 million units, and that was a franchise everyone thought was long dead.
>>5420450Damn, what a woman.
>>5418178Restricted but deadly, like a snake. She learns from the animals she comes across and adapts their strengths into her personality. That's how you know *all* aspects of a relationship would be animalistic, with her. To be with her. One has to imagine.
>>5420431>Were there any in particular that you found to be rated too generously? It's just the impression that I get when looking at the level pages. I would like to choose what to play based on something other than a consensus which rates levels of seemingly varying quality in the same way. There's no way for me to know what to look into when there are dozens of levels rated above a 9 for TR4, for example.
Can I complete any of the games in fps yet? That open lara couple years ago that featured the fps mode was so cool. Fps would be great reason to jump bk into tomb raider games
>>5420798...You are just looking for a reason to justify masturbating to Lara Croft, don't you? It's OK, I don't blame you.
I never got into the whole Lara Craft hype, but damn the Nu Lara is whiny and cringy compared to the old.
>>5421013Yeah, she's a boring bitch with not even half the sex appeal.
>>5420943>fpsWhat's the point?
>>5421020I don't get the appeal of nu-Lara either.I guess she's more "realistic" and "relatable", but fuck you - Lara was cool specifically because she was this larger than life comicbook character. That's why she translates so well into the Top Cow comics. >>5421176And how would that work? It limits your peripheral vision. I don't see myself making precise jumps in first person. But I guess I'm missing something.
>can't get into the classic TR because of the rigid gameplay >reboot TR sucks because it's just casual trashAll I wanted was more LAU. TR2 remake gave me hope but it'll never be finished.
>>5421276I honestly don't mind the rigid grid gameplay of classic TRs. It's quite intuitive once you get the hang of it.I guess my dream game would be a TR 1-4 remake with LAU graphics, yet classic grid-based gameplay left intact. I don't know how awkward would that be, but still. And nu-TR can go fuck itself.
>>5417567Yup you're right 100% agreed.Love old tomb raidersAnd Love you OP
how is the gba game anyone play it?
>>5421568You mean the top-down one?It's... eh.The controls are pretty tight, plays almost like a TR from the top-down perspective, but overall, nothing to write home about. The GB Color ones kinda suck - with the controls seemingly having a mind of their own.
>>5417893London was the worst for me. Too dark, most of it was narrow corridors and alleyways, even when in the air it was narrow passage ways for the most part. It wasn't fun at all.
>>5416984>(Remake of the first game, retitled to "The Dagger of Xian")huh?
>>5421357>>5421276>rigidWhat did he mean by this. If you play it for longer than a couple minutes, everything just feels natural.
>>5421953If you have an IQ higher than 90, tank controls aren't a problem.
>>5421945It's not just the tank controls, it's the grid aspect where if you need to pick up an item you need to be precisely standing over it, or will need to take an extra slow autistic step. Combined with items being hidden in small corridors where the shitty camera doesn't always follow and it can be very frustrating.
>>5421967>you need to be precisely standing over itDepends. In TR1 it was pretty strict, but in TR2 and beyond, there was considerable leniency, and you could visually see lara teleport to being over the object.>or will need to take an extra slow autistic stepYes, because the game is slow paced *gasp*>Combined with items being hidden in small corridors where the shitty camera doesn't always follow and it can be very frustrating. The camera is far less shitty functions better than Banjo Kazooie's, Super Mario 64's, or Conker's Bad Fur Day.Don't know what game you're playing.
>>5421958Controls for a video game have nothing to do with iq, the point was it's not natural.>>5421959Being on a wheelchair is not natural.
>>5421998>he has no spatial ability, all he can do is complain, jealous of others
>>5418241I bet she has a LOT of cancer!!
>>5421998How is it not natural? That's not a point, that's a statement.
>>5420997Slightly bigger version
>>5421998>Being on a wheelchair is not natural.Oh, so you ARE a sub-90 IQ retard.
>>5416984>I think this board could use a tomb raider threadShame mods hate those and sage them around 200 replies, despite people still posting and threads being active
>>5421998>Controls in a video game>Not natural!Imagine being this fucking retarded
I have never played a Tomb Raider game. What are they like? Should I load one up this afternoon?
>>5423930They are fun.If you don't plan on binging the entire series, just go directly for TR3. It's the most "tombraidery" of all TRs out there.
>>5423930Just play the last revelation, and don't yourself get memed into tr3.
>>5423939TR2 or TR3 is your best bet for one-time experience, depending on how "retro" you want to go.>>5424037>memed into TR3t. PSX fag
>>5424037TR3 is unironically Core's peak. It's not the best game out of them, but like the first anon said, the one that gives you the proper vibes of Core era. Sure, TR4 is great and best of them all, but in terms of being a stand-in to experience the whole series, it's just meh.
>>5424065Playstation version is best. PC version is casualized. If you have any taste you will emulate the playstation version.
>>5424092>Playstation version is best>Shit textures>Shit resolution>Shit gamma>Shit sound>Shit save system>I-it's h-harder, s-so it's betterIt's not harder. It simply has an obnoxious save system, the difficulty is unchanged
>>5424108The crystals only have a point in the ps version. The rest is irrelevant.
>>5424037>memed into TR3hohoho
>>5423930If you enjoy a good challenge, Tomb Raider 3. If you just enjoy exploring with a more relaxed challenge, Tomb Raider 1. If you enjoy action in your adventure puzzle platformer, Tomb Raider 2. If you want to explore Egypt and occasionally get stuck without realizing you need to backtrack, Tomb Raider Last Revelation.
>>5423930They are legitimately fun and cozy - if you are more of a fan of puzzle platformers, rather than action shooters. Some people complain about "bizarre" tank controls, but once you figure out how they work, they are very intuitive and tight. Combat mechanics can fuck off personally, but fortunately there aren't much shootouts in the series.I would suggest either TR 1 or TR 3 as your go-to first TR game. Unless you are here for the story - then try out TR 4. I've personally started with TR 3.TR 1 is also a lot of fun, but can feel legitimately dated and bare-bones now, compared to other games in the series. Still worth checking out. TR 2 is IMO a bit more action-oriented and takes a while to get going. And TR 4 is IMO the strongest story-wise and has some most interesting puzzles.
>>5424329I don't get the spiderman one.Is from that level with the golden statue?
>>5417873TR - south americaTRII - tibet (first level was nice too)TRIII - indiaI know the south pacific looked nice, but overall I didn't care for it much.
>>5424546No, it's because the enemies in Tomb Raider 4 all disappear after a couple seconds, and in 1-3 there were a number of persistent corpses, and only a certain amount would disappear off-screen.
>>5424513>Combat mechanics can fuck off personally, but fortunately there aren't much shootouts in the series. If there were no enemies they would just be dull empty puzzle rooms. Half of the excitement comes from the combat. One of the highlights of the entire series was the T-Rex you found in the first game.I have never, will never, never want to understand this negative attitude about the combat in the series. Aside from the hit-scanning enemies, the combat and exploration go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly.
>>5416984Currently finishing up TR3 and I'm on the Lost City of Tinnos.Nobody told me this game becomes a claustrophobic paranoia simulator.
>>5425176What? Pretty sure I've seen skellies lying on the floor without their skulls.
>>5425189I'm with you, anon. Lara is starting every level with her handguns and trying to acquire them first and foremost if they were confiscated for a reason. When people said that devs reduced combat in sotr and game automatically got better and just like in old time, it never fails to make me smile.
>>5417873TR - EgyptTRII - TibetTRIII - South PacificTRIV - Alexandria (all of it)
>>5425189The hate to combat comes from the very same people who bitch about tank controls, because they never went to Croft Manor to simply learn how the controls work, instead starting the game and predictably getting killed/stuck on first given enemy/puzzle.Personally, I find it enjoyable to jump around with micro Uzis and making sure everyone gets enough lead for fatal poisoning. Because this is what this series always was about - crazy adventures and improbable shit going on regular basis.>>5425784When people say pretty much anything about the 2nd reboot that tries to paint it as "going back to roots", it inevetable makes me laugh
>>5417562>>5420073The inferior graphics actually help Tomb Raider a lot. Most of those environments are incredibly unrealistic in the games and with improved graphics the majority of casuals are going to be looking at these environments and laugh at how unrealistic they actually are. The worse graphics make these places stand out as familiar but very strange. Basically in short the Tomb Raider games were designed around the idea of making very video gameish games only with a female protagonist. The modern gen doesn't mesh well with this idea at all because developers and gamers are obsessed with realism completely taking over the industry. DMC5 looks very odd because of this. Vergil is supposed to be Dante's twin yet doesn't even have the same face as him now thanks to this push for realism in gaming above all and that is just one example of many in the game.
so whos got liinks to the data files?Im not ripping them myself
>>5425856>t. brain-damaged moron that has no sense of scaleYes anon, we all know how bad locations in Anniversary were and how out of scale things have got. Oh, no, wait, it's just your own retardation.
womb raider eh eh ehraiding wombs eh eh ehLIKE SEX
>>5425810>micro UzisThose are just Mac-10's in 1 - 3, but I know what you mean. I always felt MAC-10's fit more than the uzis.
>>5425189I think the combat works best when it's an accent to the exploring and puzzles. The T-rex really is an incredible moment, but it's also a very short encounter. I think the first game got it perfect and then the balance went out the window.
>>5425810>Because this is what this series always was about - crazy adventures and improbable shit going on regular basis. This is reinforceable based on the fact that on the back of the first game's PS1 case it literally says-Your arsenal includes: Pistols, magnums, a shotgun and uzis-Battle wolves, bats, bears, alligators, raptors, and even a T-Rex in your quest for the Scion2 out of 3 of the bullet points (which are literal bullets on the case) for the game revolves around combat.>>5425856>Most of those environments are incredibly unrealistic in the games and with improved graphics the majority of casuals are going to be looking at these environments and laugh at how unrealistic they actually are. The worse graphics make these places stand out as familiar but very strange. They seem to have a fine time playing shit like Fortnite.>The modern gen doesn't mesh well with this idea at all because developers and gamers are obsessed with realism completely taking over the industry.I think Doom 4 proved the opposite. You had incredibly unrealistic environments complete with keycards and skull-keys. I think you're applying your own brand of out-of-touchness to justify your apprehension about today's gamer's. If they marketed the game not as being some drama-driven realistic exploration game and actually what it was, it would fair a lot better.
>>5426959Tomb Raider 1 had a decent balance, but it also was the most restricted in terms of what you encountered, what you could do, and where all the levels took place. Clearly the balance didn't go out the window because it still sold millions and retained a Highly Favorable/Generally Favorable review streak, up until 5.
>>5426962One problem, Tomb Raider games have tank controls and are supposed to function with them in mind. They wouldn't be able to just remaster these games because too many hate tank controls. Also those playing Fortnite do not necessarily care to play Tomb Raider games. Doom 4 also was in development for a long time with the prior game being 3 which was vastly different from the games before that.Tomb Raider is a whole different franchise here with certain expectations.
>>5427197>They wouldn't be able to just remaster these games because too many hate tank controlsAs polarising as it was, Anniversary managed to both have a cake and eat a cake. Should they put actual effort into it and not work on improbable deadline, it might even work out as a game.
>>5426980Well the balance going out the window ismy opinion I guess. I loved the first game but was disappointed by the sequels. Underworld was good though.
>>5426930The game calls them Uzis. But I also know how big regular and mini Uzis are. If that's MAC-10, then be it, not American nor /k/, so I'm mostly indifferent toward it.>>5426959Every game sans TR2 in the classic run had a good balance of action, exploration and straight combat. And TR2 got its shit together upon reaching Tibet, which is generally considered by most people the moment the game really starts to be good.
>>5427430You can tell they're Mac-10's because of how boxy they are. This is a Mac-10.
>>5427430I thought Venice was decent. Opera House got really obnoxious though.
>>5427197>have tank controlsThey could include an alternative control scheme. RE2 remake had tank controls and made out just fine, same with RE4.> Also those playing Fortnite do not necessarily care to play Tomb Raider gamesThat includes a wide swathe of people, many of which I could easily see playing Tomb Raider. That's besides the point though since nothing I said even remotely hinted at saying Fortnite players would like Tomb Raider, I merely stated that Fortnite wasn't realistic in the slightest and did just fine.Overall, if they released a remastered original trilogy, I could easily see it selling several million copies, at least.
So, I've played a bit through the Dagger of Xian remake demo. It played a bit too much like LAU games, but overall it was fun and surpisingly difficult at times. Is it actually possible for this project to be even finished at this point? I would kill for a high-fidelity TR3 remake - even if it plays like LAU.
>>5421176I've played the hell out of tr 1/5 I know each level each jump like palm my hand, fps is new life for old games if you know the games as well as me, changing perspective to fps would be so immersive just imagine south Pacific or the the rig in fps
>>5427865Different anon, but what about it being just British devs trying to add cool weapon and realising toolate they've designed it "wrong"? And since it became so iconic, just sticking to it?
>>5427430>Every game sans TR2 in the classic run had a good balance of action, exploration and straight combat. I guess we just disagree which is fine. I'm used to disagreeing with other TR fans
>>5428269For me, TR2 is just two game concepts put into a single game, thankfully separated in half.Venice and all the hijinks up until Tibet is the "Action game with lots of combat and shooting" and first level and anything after reaching Tibet is "Exploration in action-packed game". I dislike the first, I love the second.
>>5429091And by "balance" I mean how it's all nicely spread and mixed in all the other Core games, while TR2 has a very sharp tonal, atmsphere and gameplay change after reaching Tibet.
>>5428106>played the hell out of TR 1/5But have you played the expansions?
>>5429091>>5429103Ehh I'll admit I only played it the once and mostly all I remember was being disappointed. Tibet did seem better but it didn't really make up for it. After that I didn't even buy 3, just rented it a couple of times. I did play through Last Revelation on Dreamcast and it was alright but still didn't feel as good as the first one. Underworld was the only other I really liked except it's retarded short.
>>5429965>rented it a couple timesJesus, if that's how long ago you played them, I think you should try replaying them.
in the ps1 version of TR 1, does anybody else find it impossible to get to the very first secret? there's just no way I can grab that fucking ledge
>>5430189Is this a troll post?Think a little harder.
What is your proposed level progression in TR3?I always went India->Nevada (because of no-weapon level)->London->Pacific (so you leave the best for the end).
>>5430194ive watched videos of people doing it in the computer version, they just jump straight up and grab it, while I do the exact same thing and she can't reach it
>>5430217Which puzzle are you referring to? Post a video link.
>>5430208I went India > Nevada > Pacific > LondonI like to space the urban areas out so they don't get too tiring after a while.
>>5430239it's literally the first secret in the entire gamebefore anybody says it, yes Ive tried standing right up against the left wall where the floor is the highest
>>5430246That's the second secret. You're aware that you need to hold the action button when jumping to grab a ledge, right? Because if you stand exactly in the corner and jump, you should grab it.
>>5430254ive beat TR 1 and 2, yes I know to grab the damn button, anon
>>5430269Then just try repositioning yourself as much as you can into the corner, as high up as possible.
>>5430246Yeah I remember I wasn't able to do it in first try, but I was able to get it somehow, don't remember.
>>5430208For me it's India > Nevada > South Pacific > skip-cheat LondonLondon is lame and no need or point to dwell in those levels.
>>5430353You get the Mac10's in Aldwych.
>>5430279Press up and action at the same time. Same as what you have to do with the shortcut in Bartoli's Hideout.
>>5430398Not sure what your gif is supposed to mean. The MP5 will pause and stop firing while moving and jumping with it, and they have a higher DPS than the MP5 as well.
not retro, but just about to start rise of the tomb raider. does difficulty actually matter for any story stuff or is it just typical bulletsponge "it's harder" difficulty?
>>5430007I've replayed the first one a couple of times but 2 especially has zero interest for me to ever revisit. I usually have so many games I want to play that I almost never go back to something unless I loved it. Maybe if there's a time when I've got nothing else to do I'll give 3 or 4 another whirl but at that point I'd be more inclined to play Underworld again if anything.
>>5431361>rise of the tomb raiderOh, boy. That's your funeral. And no, difficulty has nothing to do with the story. It just throws more enemies with better accuracy at you, so it becomes even more obnoxious to play.
>>5431385>That's your funeral. Is it not a good game? I'm not gonna pretend I have good taste or anything, but I enjoyed tomb raider2013.
>>5431361You get more enemies thrown at you and more of them wear armor and throw grenades, and have better weapons.
>>5431393If you enjoyed 2013, you'll enjoy Rise. If you enjoyed LAU lara, you'll maybe like Shadow.I think Shadow is the best of the 3, although they're all 5/6 out of 10, Shadow is maybe a 7/10.
>>5430426I don't think it's physically possible for Larson to have a more stereotypical southern accent.
>>5432905I forgot about the accents in TR 1 actually.I think Natla also had this ridiculously thick southern accent. That's one of the few things Anniversary flat out improved upon.
>>5432905>>5432918Can it, anons.
>>5431528How the fuck LAU is related to Shadow? South american theme?
>>5417562I genuinely think Tomb Raider looks great. It's blocky, but the textures are decent enough to portray what they're supposed to be and it gives the game a stylised look without losing any atmosphere. It also allows the player to gauge certain gameplay-related things ahead of time such as whether a jump is possible. You know how many blocks she can manage in a single jump so there's no guesswork. The later Tomb Raiders felt a lot more clumsy and inaccurate.
>>5430246That's an exception for some reason. It doesn't let you grab the ledge if you jump and hold action, you need to go to the snowy part and instead of jumping just hold forward+action to pull yourself up. She can make the jump that way but not when you jump yourself. As far as I know it's the only jump in the quadrilogy that forces you to climb in this way.
>>5433037It's not at all. Thematically it tried to capture 1-4.>Peru from TR1>plot focused around an ancient dagger from TR2>jungle setting with a lot of similar enemies to TR3, and references to others like the monkeys>apocalypse/ancient evil from TLR
>>5432918The game should've had fucking subtitles for its cutscenes, I always had to watch them like 5 times to catch what these mumbly accent fucks were trying to say.
>>5433480The only thing that's missing is Lara Croft herself. But that's another story.
>>5432918Iirc Natla is voiced by Lara's VA too.
>>5433813Nope. It was either Vicky Arnold or Susan Hamilton. Lara was voiced by Shelley Blond (IMO the best Lara voice actor)But Lara shares a voice actress with Sophia Leigh in TR3.
Huh.Lara Croft has a street in Derby named after her. That's how you know you made a cultural impact.
>>5433862That's funny because autists on /v/(or it's a single person) measure impact by polls on gamefaqs - which is consist almost solely by nintendo characters.
>>5433846To me it sounds like a similar voice but with lower tone. Interestingly it's not stated who was Natla's VA in tr1.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEuCl2HhAb4
>>5432918>>5433662The Jamaican guy in Tomb Raider 3 during the London section...My GOD, I couldn't understand a WORD of what he was saying because I was just stunned by how bad his accent was.
>>5433467I hope by "later Tomb Raider's" you mean LAU, since Tomb Raider2 and 3 had spot-on platforming.
>>5434034Try to understand the Italian bad guys in TR2.And they are the ones giving you exposition about what's going on.And the plot to TR2 is very simple, yet very convoluted at the same time. So, at some point I stopped caring trying to understand why Lara is doing what she's doing and just went with "I guess the plot needs her here in this moment".
>>5434060Lara is a mercenary who gets inadvertently wrapped up in grand schemes to end the world.Happens all-throughout the series really. Tomb Raider 1, she was hired by Natla to get the Scion, then gets double-crossed and breaks in to find out what she's after, tracks down Dupont, and then things fall off the rails. In Tomb Raider 2, she's just doing a bit of exploring on her own about the Dagger of Xian, until she happens upon Bartoli's henchmen and gets wrapped up in that mystery.Tomb Raider 3, she's investigating the Infada stone, which happens to be an ancient alien meteorite fragment which RX Tech also happened to be after, and is hired to retrieve the rest.In Tomb Raider 4, she's looking for an amulet and accidentally awakens a dark god, and it turns out that Von Croy is still alive, and her guide was working for him and she gets in a battle against her old tutor. Her endeavors were never really selfless. The plot is there if you want to look for it, but it was never really her intention to deal with the individuals she becomes involved with.
>>5434117Why do people say she doesn't have character? Is it because she doesn't talk about herself?
>>5434123>Why do people say she doesn't have character?I don't know, who said that?
>>5434145People who haven't played the games?
>>5434176I played games and can't say I got to know her. She keeps everything inside herself.
>>5434176So >>5434123Was this reply asking me, or?Because you just answered your own question.
>>5434223>can't say I got to know herYou don't need to get to know her for her to have personality. We got to know plenty about nu-Lara, but she's still a void of charisma and has no defining characteristics.
>>5434228I think old Lara works because she's defined enough to be her own easily-identifiable character - she's a smartass, brave daredevil who hunts tresures for shits and giggles and a tabula rasa enough that we can imprint our interpretations on her. She's a bit JC Denton or Commander Shepard in this regard. Or I'm full of shit. Either one.
>>5434337She's definitely got more personality and flair than fucking JC Denton and Shephard.
>>5430413>Higher DPSNo they don't. MP5 and Deagle are the only weapons you will ever need. Shotgun is handy in India, too, but you can manage without it.If not for the final boss, I would even say all you need is just MP5, but it's unreliable in that particular combat. But what do I know, I beat the game with just pistols and a hell lot of acrobatics
>>5434697I found uzis better in tr2 than m16 against those animated warriors because they don't reduce Lara's mobility.
>>5434731Maybe that's because M16 is actually crap in TR2, while Uzis are at their peak in the entire series (sans maybe Underworld) in that game. They've got heavily nerfed in TR3 and turned into actual nerf guns in TR4.
Remember when one company claimed they were doing classic TR remasters, made the news, showed some cool videos and then got taken down because they were not licensed to do that?
>>5434697>But what do I know, I beat the game with just pistols and a hell lot of acrobaticsWow, cool story, it doesn't stop the Mac10's from being more versatile during acrobatics.
so ive never played any but im interested in emulating one. which is the most fun to play? ///yeah im fucking casual deal w it////I used to start franchises from the beginning but have since realized that the first game is rarely actually the most fun.
>>5434697>No they don't. MP5 and Deagle are the only weapons you will ever need. Shotgun is handy in India, too, but you can manage without it.Based fucking retard. They have the highest rate of fire and absolutely have the highest DPS but only in close ranges because they are inaccurate as fuck and you will miss around 10% of your shots at a distance of a little more than a jump.
>>5435078I would start with 1 just to get started. All of them on STEAM or GOG work pretty well and have very easy/simple fixes for controllers.Start with any of them that you like, just be aware of these things:1 - Least amount of moves and weapons, mostly puzzles and exploring with action every now and then2 - Lots of urban environments, a shit ton of action, lots of underwater segments3 - A 50/50 mix of exploration and action, a lot more variety in puzzle types and also a hell of a lot harder than the previous two4 - Several sections that deal with non-linear level design (IE, you will have to come back to the level later), a semi return-to-form for the series 5 - Very uneven, sort of a grab-bag experience. Generally thought to be a very good game, if uninspired and going-through-motionsSAVE OFTEN
>>5435096>action every now and then>a shit ton of actionIve been watching a playthrough of 1, and there's a ton of fighting. They're about done with greece and they've killed literally dozens each of rats, lions, apes, and crocs.
>>5435129If you think that's a lot, just wait till you get to Tomb Raider 2.
>>5435129>dozensyou kill more mob goons in italy in tr2 and thats like the second level, plus animals dont shoot back.
>>5435385why all the assumptions?ive beat bothim just saying the amount of enemies are close in each game>>5435393im gonna look this up; I think ya'll niggas are exagerrating
>>5435396>i've beat bothThen why preface with "Ive been watching a playthrough"? Just say you've played them.
>>5435410because im watching the playthrough nowi havent played them in a long time, so seeing it right now is making me realize just how many enemies there arein tr1, there are:142913723264334171516153326enemies in each level in ordertr2:232437462034163521303330/523322372611not counting that tr2 has 2 more levels, the numbers are consistently higher in tr2, but the difference isn't as big as people make it out to be
>>5435432I felt you could also run the fuck away from enemies in tr1 without too much fucking over the pathway.Enemies in tr2 were more a requirement to move on unless you already knew where you were going, which as a slow player I don't.
>>5435393Yeah, you pretty much kill more stuff in the Italy section of TR2 than the entirety of TR1. Having said that, I prefer combat in TR1. Majority of TR1 enemies attacked at meelee or with projectiles. So it was easier to avoid them. Those assholes in TR2 keep using hitscan weapons with deceptively long range and accuracy. And dodging, sidejumping and aiming was always quite clunky in TR games, especially with multiple enemies shooting at you from every side. And Lara consistently keeps shooting at dead enemies until you tell her to stop and shoot something else. And you can fuck yourself over with a bad dodge - by accidently hitting a wall for instance - and before you regain control, Lara is riddled with bullets.
>>5435447>Yeah, you pretty much kill more stuff in the Italy section of TR2 than the entirety of TR1see>>5435432
>>5435432How many enemies are part of the path vs how many are part of traps? In tr1, at least earlier, enemies were down below where you would fall into if you fucked up. In tr2. they're right fucking there, half the time don't even come out to be shot until you trigger them.
>>5435465Still - TR2 had way more human enemies than TR1. I think the only human enemies in TR1 were the "boss fights" against Natlas henchmen. Also, I wonder about the ratio of easy to challenging enemies in both games.TR1 had a lot of bats and bugs that go out in one shot but still count as enemies. TR2 had disproportionately more "serious" enemies like guys with guns or scuba divers - and those fuckers were a pain in the ass.
>>5435447>dodging and sidejumping was always clunkyNo it wasn't, just don't be a no-skill pleb and know where to aim and you won't fuck up your jumps. You have to commit to your jumps and if there's something in the way it screws up your jump. Not that hard to remember.>until you tell her to stop and shoot something elseYou mean by letting go of shoot and then pressing shooting again? Not that hard?
>>5435505The problem begins when you don't have a space to jump or dodge properly. And there are a lot of tight corridors in Italy. So in the end it becomes a game of "let's hope I can kill this guy quicker than he can kill me, because I will take damage regardless and any stupid move on my part may stunlock me".
>>5434042Yes of course, AoD was the first with shaky platforming. Chronicles was solid too mechanically, it was just disappointing as a game. I still think Chronicles is vastly better than anything that came after, even if it's by far the worst of the first 5. 1 and 4 are tied as my favourites with 3 slightly behind.
>>5435658>I still think Chronicles is vastly better than anything that came afterYeah, short buggy cashgrab is better than games that was put some effort into. You core fanboys are completely delusional here in this echo-chamber.
>>5418004>Also new Lara Croft is underwhelmingI wish the rest of the world thought the same way...
>>5435671Chronicles was a mess, I admit, but I love it for the gameplay systems that come with the old grid-based movement. They're puzzle platformers as much as they're action games. Everything since missed out on that. Shadows was cool but I hate how the rest have autosnap platforming and certain ledges that slide you off despite being visually flat. Everything Chronicles-specific sucked.
>>5435658Dunno. I would take LAU games over 5. Chronicles legitimately felt like an expansion pack to 4. 2013 is fine as a game, I guess but it doesn't feel like a TR. It's a dark and gritty Uncharted game with a new protagonist and a TR brand slapped on it. I don't remember other TR games being so dreary and depressing - quite the opposite.
>>5435070>>5435081>Rattlesnake, a stationary target>takes at any range 1 shot from Deagle>takes at short and mid range 6 shots from MP5; 8 at maximum range>takes fucking 10 at point blank from Uzis, up to 30 depending on rangeYou were saying something? The uzis have shit aim and when you jump, the aim gets even worse. That was always true in every single TR, but in case of TR3, they've nerfed the sheer stopping power of the weapon. So you have poor aim AND poor damage when you land a hitThis ultimately means shotgun is a better gun for acrobatics in TR3 than uzis, as unintuitive it seems to be. Also, Deagle is pretty damn good, but the ammo is to rare to risk it at acrobatics, when you can just stand still and everything but bosses and T-Rex drop at 5 shots max (and if you use cheats, then Tony dies at 10 shots).
>tomb raider thread>next to no Lara pics
>>5435793best lara coming through
>>5435793Might as well.
>>5427865On a mechanical level though, the MAC M10 and M11 are fairly similar to the Uzis.>blowback>fires from an open-bolt>bolt telescopes around the barrel>magazine goes in grip>most of the gun is made from stamped and bent sheet steel
>>5435773>>takes fucking 10 at point blank from Uzis, up to 30 depending on rangeWasn't the original comment comparing them to the MP5? Not the deagle? Since, ya know, you have to wait for her to aim with the MP5?
>>54357072013 wasn't depressing so much as it was boring.
>>5435773>This ultimately means shotgun is a better gun for acrobatics in TR3 than uzisLol, no it's not, and the shotgun has an even shorter range than the uzis. Shotgun is good for enemies that take 1 or 2 full-hits to take down, out-side of that, it's not as effective as any of the other weapons. Uzis generally take down a human enemy in 3 seconds.
>>5436603>Comparison includes both Deagle and MP5>B-but only MP5, r-remember?That's why it's included, too>>5436628Pistols can in 4. So can shotgun, while most of the time will be spend on reloading it.Your point? Assuming there is any, aside disregard for the nerf uzis received in TR3 and acting as if it was still TR1 or 2
>>5436636>>B-but only MP5, r-remember?Nice meme stuttering, does that make you feel in charge of the situation from your pretend-level of authority?>t-t-that's w-why it's included, t-tooGreat, even though the deagle was never fucking brought up.>>5436636>Pistols can in 4. >Assuming there is any, aside disregard for the nerf uzis received in TR3 and acting as if it was still TR1 or 2I wasn't insinuating that they were as good as they were in the previous ones at all, I simply said that you miss the uzis and you shit bed in pretentious smugness thinking you knew something when you didn't.I just tested the uzis in-game against the MP5 and the Shotgun and the pistols, and they kill faster than the pistols, they kill at about the same rate as the shotgun give or take a few milliseconds, and they are slower than the MP5 in terms of damage, but they lock on quicker than the MP5, and you have the added versatility of using them while jumping.Quite frankly, if you want to get rid of someone quickly and you don't want to waste your MP5 or deagle ammo, that makes the uzis a viable option at medium to close distances, where-as the shotgun is more effective as a one-shot kill for weaker enemies like dogs and snakes.
>>5437576Are you doing this on purpose? You rather be doing this on purpose, because actual dense motherfucker scare the shit out of me with their utter stupidity
>>5438202>Are you doing this on purpose? You rather be doing this on purpose, because actual dense motherfucker scare the shit out of me with their utter stupidityAre you meming? Cite me one post I made where I compared the uzis to the previous two games' uzis, shit-for-brains. This was a discussion about the effectiveness of the uzis in the game, specifically compared to the MP5, and I literally just proved that half my original statement was correct. If they didn't do as much damage as the MP5, that still wouldn't make them useless, you thick-shit skulled mongoloid.I can honestly understand why you're a perma-virgin shit-posting on /vr/ if this is what you're actually like in real life.
I rarely found a use for the MP5. I either use jumps/rolls to reduce damage taken, or I find an elevated position against non-hitscan enemies and don't need to waste my limited ammo. Maybe it'd be useful against close range enemies as they move in on you, but it still seems better to just jumproll while peppering them. I'm interested to know any specifics about when you guys use it though since I usually end up sat on a bunch of ammo for it by the end of the game. It always felt clumsy due to the startup time before firing and limiting your mobility so much.
>>5440135Those little dualshock nubs couldn't adequately translate her boobage, even at this smaller scale.
>>5440492Those are her nipples, not boobs.
>>5439140Raptors, Tinnos guards and the high-tier MP5 all make perfect targets for the MP5.In other words - tough targets that are bullet sponges and/or can seriously mess you up at relatively long range. Outrange and outgun them.
