This turned up yesterday.Pretty excited (anons with 80s high-end trinitrons will know why)
>>5408462>anons with 80s high-end trinitrons will know whyWTF is it lol?
>>5408415Goddamn desk globes are so neat
>>5408557>Goddamn desk globes are so neatThat one is a 10 replogle globe made sometime in 1959. Alaska is listed as a US state, but Hawaii is still a territory. It is in rough shape, but holds up well. Its neat as a conversation piece.
Nice orange GameCube.
>>5408642If I was in a house where a son of a bitch tried to talk to me about his globe I would YEET the fuck out of there.
>>5408647>Nice orange GameCube. Its just a controller. I got rid of the gamecube years ago because the wii is a gamecube in every way aside from the gameboy player. >>5408662>If I was in a house....You wouldn't be in my house ever, so don't have to worry about having a conversation with someone like me in person. I don't let people in that use made up words like "YEET".
>>5408686One reason I still prefer using the Gamecube is that it doesn't force you to use the Wiimote in startup.
>>5408712>One reason I still prefer using the Gamecube is that it doesn't force you to use the Wiimote in startup.I keep a classic controller pro plugged into a wiimote and that avoids having to use the "features" on the wii system menu. Also, you can use priiloader to force the system to start the homebrew channel or a usb loader by default, and the GC controller works fine from there. I don't play many GC games, but I do like DK Jungle beat.
I'd like some advice if you fine lads are up to it.I'm running a laptop's VGA output through an Emotia Plus for downscaling purposes. The downscaling itself works very well, but I can only ever get a black & white picture on the CRT. This is happening through both S-video and composite outputs which are both good cables. I'm thinking the issue is with the VGA female-to-female adapter on the input, some problem with color depth, or something wrong with the Emotia itself.Unfortunately I can't test RGB output because I'd need a card for my JVC and my other screen only has component.
>>5409041Is the monitor set for the right PAL / NTSC encoding, same as the Emotia is set to?
>>5409628Yes, the TV is set to NTSC and the emotia can freely switch between PAL/NTSC. The picture is great, de-interlaced nicely and everything, but simply no color. I can't show a picture right now since nothing is set up atm but I will post one eventually
Is Model KV-24FV300 a good CRT? It’s pretty cheap for a triton
Wait, PVMs are only 8 inches??
>>5409534good game. Looks like a pretty old crt
wii vc component cable 240p looks really good to me.
Total ignoramus here, is a Sony Trinitron PVM 14N5E any good for my PAL Gamecube?
>>5410173If that's the back, you can use composite or s-video, but there's no RGB on that set. It defeats the purpose of a PAL/RGB Gamecube. I don't even know if Gamecube does s-video.It will still probably look alright though.
>>5410186Thanks. Probably not worth it then.
>>5410149>hehe, i should show you a pic i made trying to make a style similar to yours for fun.Bring it on! I am still looking for a mint dish to sit on the top of mine. Lets see who has a more geriatric looking CRT! My main reason for buying it was specifically for the 25" tube for a future Arcade cab, but it looks and works great even with s-video ....and the sound coming out of it is the best I have ever heard sound coming from a stock TV. If I EVER find the 27" model, I will buy it pretty quick. The picture itself is soft, but overall its a great s-video television. >>5410186>I don't even know if Gamecube does s-video.I know the USA units do, but I don't know about the PAL models. I know what I read about PAL gamecubes, and everything says that a PAL unit will not offer s-video out. >>5410158So that cable is for an analog RGB connection? Do you adapt from scart to that ribbon? Being in the USA, I missed out on RGB, and S-Video was our highest fidelity connection for quite a long time.
>>5410074Please help, it’s only $20 but it’s will be a journey to drive to get it
>>5410074>KV-24FV300It's more or less the same TV as the FS100 but with better speakers and sound (by the specs at least). So yeah.
>>5410221>it’s only $20 but it’s will be a journey to drive to get itI don't know what the supply of CRTs is where you are, but I would question driving more than a half hour to pick up one of these, but its not a bad set IF it works.
Random CRT question, picked up a small 10 inch early 80s TV for a song, has RF only. The TV comes on but 9 times out of 10 when I plug an RF cable into it, the TV immediately shuts off. The few times it does work, the screen is all scrambled. Any reason for this or should I just dump it? And yes I know RF sucks but I bought it for the wood grain form factor, reminds me of the first tv I played atari and nes on.
Klonoa is a kid friendly game.
Does a CRT make sense for PS2? It’s not pixels but it’s still 480p
I found a PVM 20L5 for 1800 which is fucking ridiculous but what’s a fair counter offer? Or at least how much is it really worth, 300?
>>5410898Supposing it’s in great condition also
>>5410882Yes because the ps2 is a 480i machine
>>5410669There used to a time when not everyone was a thin-skinned oversensitive mangina with a chip on their shoulders.

>>5410985Thanks, that seems reasonable. Bad at negotiating but I don’t REALLY need it so it helps if I can just walk away
>>5410205im kidding i didnt really do that, model the crt after yours
>>54101405, 8/9, 14, 20 inch are the most common pvmeme sizes.
>>5410929It's 480p if you use the component video cable.
>>5411398only with the very few games that support progressive scanning like 24: The Game, Crash: Mind Over Mutant, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
>>5411424There are more than 220 PS2 games with 480p support built in, more can be forced to do it with GSMS.
>>5411446If you're sitting close it can be alright, I'd rather have a reasonable 14" consumer TV with s-vid over an 8 incher pvmeme, especially if looking at the 250TVL rated models.
are there any downsides to using a hdmi to vga adapter?
>>5411539Not really if you get a decent one. I got one personally and it seems to work fine when using it for my PS3 at 480p.

I have seen some nice Console tvs posted (including a 32" wega), but they just don't look like something at an old folks home.
>>5411629It'll do fine so long as you're not trying to push crazy high resolutions.
>>5411635>It'll do fine so long as you're not trying to push crazy high resolutions.thanks, it's mainly for older games so I won't be going too high.
>>5411673I was too so I worked overtime and paid Ebay prices. A weeks overtime is easier than trying to score a deal for months at a time. I genuinely appreciate Ebay pvm sellers as long as they pack it well and don't rape me on the prices.
>>5411673I got lucky and found a pretty decent professional monitor where I work. After using an OSSC though, I don't think it makes a massive difference in the way it looks to use a modern set with good scaling versus a professional monitor. At least when using high quality cables. It has a few other benefits but I'd say for most people, it's probably best to either use a consumer set with component cables or get an OSSC.
Just got this off of a friend yesterday. First curved CRT I've had and I like the aesthetic of that. It's a decently convenient size, too.
>>5410898Location dependent. Street value from an auction in LA is >>5410985 , $600-$800 from a “first reseller” in same area. You will be hard pressed to get that price in most of the rest of North America, but it does happen occasionally. If you get extremely lucky, you might find someone from broadcasting biz throwing theirs out for free.
>>5411820>First curved CRT I've hadHow old are you?
Just ordered a memory card with MCFB on it and a cheap SCART cable for my PS2, looking forward to playing some burned PS1 games. It's nice that the PS2(at least the fat, not sure about the slim) offers Toslink audio so you can cheap out on your RGB cables and not have to worry about buzzing audio for lack of shielding.
>>5411880Should've clarified, of my own. I used one in my childhood but it didn't actually belong to me, and that was of course before I had a particular interest in braun tubes specifically, anyway.
>>5411880>How old are you? This poster is a potential child predator. Ignore requests for a/s/l.

>>5412431You don’t sound sorry at all!
>>5412431It's the Super Mario All-Stars version.
are some pc crts shielded from magnets? I have two big unshielded speakers just behind this thing, and it;s not affecting the image at all.
>>5411820right on man, curved crts all the way for me too
>>5411820NICE! Have a (you).>>5412865>right on man, curved crts all the way for me tooI have a curved and a flat CRT, and they are different enough to consider them totally different. They both look great, and both work as CRTs obviously, but they both have a distinctive look. I would say that the curved one has a more typical look, while the flat screen model seems to almost have the look of a monitor. It is almost too "crisp". However, games look amazing on both. I don't get too hung up on pixel perfection. Color quality, yes..but being able to see scanlines is irrelevant.
Are the official component cables for consoles like the Xbox, Wii and PS2 better than third party ones?
>>5412860Not really. Most speakers are shielded reasonably well even if they don't advertise it since it's cheaper that way.
>>5413247Better than the $3 from china direct cables yes, better than decent third party ones usually no.
>>5413259What are some good third party ones? The ones not from Chinese sellers still look like the same
>>5413271For Wii the ribbon style China cables are alright.
>>5413556>ribbon styleBut is the original better? I actually have those but I get the feeling there's some interference
>>5413616I donno. I use rocket fish component cables since they seem pretty high quality and were about 10 bucks last time I checked.
I set up and amplifier and added bookshelf speakers.
>>5413765Looks like a good time!
>>5413765Sexy CRT m8
>>5413257>Most speakers are shielded reasonablynot mine, I have large studio monitors which cause major interference on my CRT TVs. I looked further into it and it turns out many high end PC CRTs have shielding themselves
>>5414376basically any semi-modern vga monitor will have shielding, not just high end ones.
>>5414376the shielding on PC monitors is for RF, not DC magnetic field.
>>5414927well, some seem to be because moving these big shielded speakers near and away the monitor has no effect at all. the monitor is an apple multiple scan 17
>>5413765Nice Toshiba. My OCD is triggered though slightly at that geometry, but it's got a great picture! Love the cozy feel. 9/10 mate
>>5414934sorry i meant unshielded
>>5414976Do the same speakers have a significant effect on other CRTs?
>>5414963Thanks, what's wrong with the geometry? Looks fine to me.
>>5415008I also see some sliightly wonky spots at the bottom of the logo and to the left side of the border, but it's entirely normal looking and I really wouldn't care if I were you, looks great as-is.
>>5415002yes, even several meters away
>>5415048>yes, even several meters awayI have an old set of Boston acoustic speakers that work great with one of my CRTs, but my other one catches all sorts of magnetic interference from them. It sucks because I would love to hook them up to the TV that can't handle it.
Got a PVM20L2 for $250. Not the best price, I think – I passed up an opportunity to buy this exact model for $70 and maybe could pick up more than one if I drove 2 hours away several months ago. I wonder if the person I bought it from did just that?Pat if you're on here, sorry I lied to you. I actually own another CRT and I didn't learn about these through reddit.
>>5415015thanks for pointing that out, I might take the time someday and repair it.
>>5415067That's a okay price but the downside is that (in my opinion) the L series are just not that good. They're too modern, with lots of surface mount components and a menu that looks like a digital camera.I like the older 90s pvms better. You still got an good deal though.
>>5415008It's about 98% perfect, for some reason the orientation of the screen could stand to tilt a little to the left, it's leaning to the right from what I can tell. Still - maybe it's the angle. Beautiful colors.
>>5410158Is that a KV1311CR? I have one too. Pardon the cramped photo. Previous owner gave me this hand-made adapter for SCART. Let me know if you want the pinouts (pardon the cramped photo)
>>5415127I've made my own adapter before out of floppy connectors and ribbon cables, but since I now own 3 TV's with that connector with slightly different audio pinouts each, I decided to order a 3d printed cable for them. Works great
Getting bored:In the last 3 weeks I finished Chrono Cross which I started in August and had a few long breaks. I beat Castlevania SoTN, and I beat Ogre Battle 64. I don't know what I want in a game right now, but I really liked how SoTN was a short game, but had quite a bit of depth. I like RPGs, but also wondered if there were shorter ones than Final Fantasy. I don't know if I have the patience for that duration of time right now. 2 out of the 3 games I have beaten in the last few weeks have been 40+ hour games. Is there any "shorter" RPGs on the Snes or Genesis?
>>5413556Wait what kind of ribbon style do you mean? These?
>>5416037Not that anon you're asking but I'd imagine these.
>>5416049But aren't those just the normal Nintendo ones?
>>5416052The original nintendo one looks like this one >>5416037 but with actual decent cable inside. For the cheap cables >>5416049 style works better since there's proper shielding between each line.
>>5415053yeah, that always sucks. If you like those speakers that much, you can try to find someone who will shield them for you, or attempt to do it yourself.
my apartment feels like a grandmas house sometimes
>>5416329>my apartment feels like a grandmas house sometimesDid you ever get rid of that fake christmas tree? What happened with the plans for a flat screen?
>>5416346Tree is gone, that corner is cleaned out and I'll move my crt there. I'm just looking for a cheap tv stand to put the crt on. Craigslist has nothing right now and target/Walmart is too expensive for what I need. The 2019 model tvs should be coming out any week now and I'll be ready to get one when they do
>>5416357>I'm just looking for a cheap tv stand to put the crt on.Why not look for a cheap stand to sit the LCD on. Wouldn't an lcd require something with less width? Not trying to be a creep, but I recall your post a few weeks back where there was talk of you getting rid of the CRT. I found that goodwill & salvation army outlets always have a selection of tv stands for $10. Good luck anon!
>>5416362I like how the metal and glass one looks that I have now and I'd rather put the LCD on that instead of moving it with the crt to the corner. The crt can have a cheap stand and it will be fine it's not the centerpiece of the room. I was thinking about getting rid of it but I decidled I'll hold onto it for a while
>normies paying up the ass for pvms>me: gonna buy a $20 TV from Craigslist and rgb mod itlmaoing @ all u who paid more than $100 for a fucking tv
>>5416969>RGB on a CRTmay as well just play on LCD at that point
>>5416969To each their own. A good pvm/bvm has more going for it than just accepting RGB. I'm okay with spending those sums once for the high-water mark of a tech that I value, considering I spend next to nothing on modern screens.
n64 on project64 up rendered to 480p on a sony pc crt looks better than real hardware imo. too bad n64 emulation sucks ass. can someone recommend a better emulator?
>>5417023you quoted your own statement for whatever reason. anyway I know it's a lost cause but you should look into Air New Zealand flight 901 and something called ETOPS regulations. Flight plans exist for safety reasons, not as some massive conspiracy to somehow hide the edge of the world.
>>5417113Try a real N64
>>5417136So what happens when all of the real N64s die and emulation still sucks? I bet you that would happen because of all of the fucking stupidity in the 64 emulation scene.

>>5411424Gran turismo 4 also
How do I justify paying over $200 for a crt when they're likely to need repairs in the next 3 years and I'm too scared of killing myself opening those mini nuclear power plants?
>>5417139They will probably outlive you.
>>5416329Never lose that aesthetic anon. That said, some small shelves to get the speakers up off the floor at the same height as the tv would look nice and give you additional storage/console space.
>>5417221if you only play games on it for a couple hours a day, a quality crt will continue to work for decadesthings used to be built to last
>>5417141>isn't the GC version 480p compatible?I am pretty sure the Wii VC version of these games are native 480p. >>5417139>So what happens when all of the real N64s die and emulation still sucks?Any of the cart based systems will last a long time, with minor fixes to capacitors. Short of a lightening strike, they are going to continue to be easy to maintain. CD/DVD based systems on the other hand need TLC & we are just starting to get into optical drive emulation. Once the mechanical drives are converted to solid state, they too will also have a long shelf life.

>>5417221>Replyyou stop buying stuff in shit condition just to hop on some bandwagon, AND you learn that CRTs are not microchernobyl disasters waiting to happen. this is pure fearmongering and little else. unplug them before attempting repairs, do proper research, learn to discharge the anode, be very careful around the PCB if you have to make adjustments with the set turned on. especially careful with the anode and the flyback. nothing will ever happen to you. several home appliances are more dangerous than a CRT.
>>5417607>AND you learn that CRTs are not microchernobyl disasters waiting to happen. The WORST thing that you will find inside of a used CRT is cockroach eggs, but if you buy a CRT that is full of dead and alive bugs, it is not worth it either way.

>>5418224>feelsbadman"240p lines" are a side effect of the technology, not a feature. I am sure your mom warned you about sitting so close to the tv. Just know that even at a safe viewing distance, the lines are still there, and do have an effect on the overall screen appearance.
>>5416037I have exactly these and they work great.
>>5418226Never heard of it. must be a new show
>>5418202>OC made this awhile back. That is pretty cool actually. I keep thinking about integrating a Wii into a CRT, because I think they are small enough to hide inside the cab without too much physical modification of the set. Anyone got recommendations for SCART splitters that work well? Only got one port and don't want to keep ripping out the cable
>>5419972Pretty fucking good actually. There is very minimal lag on them though autistic parrots will say differently. It's so minimal you can do the log jump in Mr. Gimmick without planning ahead. Basically if your setup has lag, you have to press the button right before he touches the log over the waterfall. With a "lag free" setup you can sit on the log before pressing jump and not fall to your death. There are very few exceptions that I've found that are as punishing to lag as this section on level 2 of Mr. Gimmick. They are fucking epic for watching widescreen dvds on or non retro games. Also nice for netflix. Be warned, they are heavy as fuck, something like 265 lbs. Pic related is horribly shitty camera work. Forgive the potato pic but they do look very good IRL, up to 1080 so pretty much like a computer monitor if that makes sense.
>>5422040>mmendations for SCART splitThe bandridge one is pretty good. I got the manual switching one. It's about the cheapest you will find with decent quality.
>>5418915>What is the ideal CATHODE RAY TUBE/PROFESSIONAL VIDEO MONITOR for a PAL GCN (GameCube™ Nintendo) UTILIZING the Official Nintendo GameCube component cable?Dude, just hook it up from any consumer TV worth its salt from your region. RGB support is common as chips in PAL-land. Or run it through a transcoder into a PC CRT for Progressive Scan support. If you must specifically have a broadcast monitor that can handle 480p Component, look into a multiformat monitor such as a PVM-14L5 and brace yourself for some sticker shock.
Newest addition, a pair of JVC VM-R200PSN. Tons of inputs: RGB and Component, CVBS, Y/C, VTR, TTL RGB, as well as Betacam and MII (whatever the hell this is).Virtually no info online, except from some schematics from the service manual.50 euros and a 3h round trip, worth it I guess.
>>5423615MII and Betacam are YPbPr inputs for the respective tape formats. The Y/C is effectively S-video in a different connector, VTR is composite.
>>5423002Note PAL GCN games don't support 480p, would need homebrew or modchip + NTSC games to use it.
>>5423619Thanks for the input. Now time to find or make some adapter for that Y/C port.I'm also looking for the best way to test a CRT on the go. I was thinking about a Pi Zero with the 240p test suite, but that would only work for composite. Professional RGB pattern generators are way too expensive, even used. A DVD player with a test DVD is not really portable.Should I go for a Pi3 with a SCART hat just for this purpose ?
>>5423615Nice man! Are these shadow mask?
>>5423642I guess. There's nothing online about this monitor, apart from a couple of post on reddit an /vr/.It might be a EU variant of the VM-R190SU which seems to be a 600TVL shadow mask, since we tend to count the actual diagonal of the screen over here, not just the visible one (the PVM 2030 becomes the PVM 2130 in Europe for example). The VM-R200PSN and VM-R190SU are externally identical.
>>5423673And I think I just found where the -PSN suffix comes from: the only difference between the two monitors are a PAL/SECAM/NTSC switch on the VM-R200PSN, while the VM-R190SU is NTSC-only.
Sharp is a decent brand for a CRT right? I know their brand has been tarnished these last couple years due to shitty HDTVs but I recall they used to be considered one of the top dogs.

I'm fucking retarded so maybe you guys can help me out:Just got a JVC TM-H150CG with the RGB/component card and I hooked up one of my DVD players to it via component cables (using BNC connectors), however I'm getting a magenta image. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need a sync cable to get the right colors? Composite and S-Video colors look fine, it's just the YPbPr that gives the magenta.Pic related.

>>5423684Yeah, one of my favorite flat screen CRT is a sharp brand with component. I also have a curved screen one and it's a nice shadow mask. You never hear them talked about but the sharps I've seen are pretty good.
>>5423974Does your monitor need flipped from RGB to component? I know on my sonys you have to flip one in a menu and on the other there is a physical switch. If your monitor is expecting RGB and being fed component it will be pink or green if you feed rgb to a component monitor.
>>5423637Wii 240p test Suite as a homebrew. A set of cables should be fairly cheap, with the official s-video ones being the most expensive. You should be able to get component, composite and s-video for $40 or less. For someone comparing/collecting CRTs, it is a great tool. instead of using the sensor bar, you can substitute it with a classic controller or controller pro to navigate the system menu. You can also use Priiloader to force the unit to start in a backup-loader menu and use a gamecube controller.
You DO have a TV lamp to create bias lighting behind your CRT, don't you anon? https://www.cinemaquestinc.com/blb.htmhttp://www.tvlamps.net/lamp_history.html
how safe is it to power up a crt mainboard without the crt attached? I believe the power supply on my monitor went out but I there's no way to get in there and measure voltages when it's all assembled.
>>5424545>https://www.cinemaquestinc.com/blb.htmI do but only because I care about eye-strain
>>5424516Plenty more set up in my house and at my parents' place too
Anybody else use their CRTs to do stuff other than gaming? I got a really nice editing VCR and cleaned it up. I'm amazed by how nice even VHS can look when you're doing it right. Plus the best audio setup in my house is on my CRT, and hi-fi VHS audio sounds amazing.Had a friend over last night and we watched all three Star Wars movies. Looked great and the matte shots were gorgeous. The softness of analog video really helps a lot of the special effects to look better.
Finally picked up the rebadged Sony Trinitron that I've asked about a couple weeks ago. Sharpness and color are amazing and I'm gonna have to spend a lot of fucking time adjusting the picture fitment, however I'm having another issue. It's very greyish even with the contrast turned all the way up. Is this some sort of defect or an age issue that commonly affects CRTs or Trinitrons in particular, and can it be fixed?
>>5424651The contrast control doesn't do what you think it does.Turn it and the brightness down. If that doesn't help you'll need to tweak the screen control on the flyback transformer.
>>5424717But then it's just too dark and still too grey. I mean, I've used CRTs in my youth, and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to look like that, especially for a presumably professional monitor.
>>5424729If you can't get the screen to display blacks (with absence of ambient light) the screen voltage has drifted too high. Adjust the pot on the flyback transformer.
>>5424740And I would find that on the inside? I've got an extensive manual with pictures of all circuit boards and all wiring schematics, but I'm clueless about these things.
>>5424651Tell us the exact model again. If this is a PC monitor it may have the G2 brightness issue.
>>5424801Sony GDM-5403. And I think it's a contrast issue, not a brightness issue. I can take photos tomorrow, but I'll be heading for bed now.
>>5424809Assuming you mean grey blacks, it's a brightness issue which is common with the FD Trinitron PC CRTs. Screen voltage "G2" is controlled in software on these sets and requires you to connect up to it via a serial connection and dedicated software (winDAS).If you mean grey blacks and just relatively poor light output, it could be the previous bit plus it having seen a hell of a lot of use and has just grown dim as such. Sadly, there really isn't a fix for this aside from cranking the contrast as high as you can manage without throwing other things off, and that is just going to rush things even further.Pics would help though, obviously.>>5424545I actually have the black version of almost that exact same lamp. Don't use it though.
>>5425104I had that TV, I kind of miss it but I don't miss the weight. Don't think your shelf appreciates the weight either.
Is the Wii's media player any good? I have a SCART cable on the way for GCN on my CRT but I wouldn't mind trying out watching some old shows on it.
Recently bought a Trinitron PVM-1341 for $10 at a flea market, got lucky to find one at all where I live even if it didn't work. It turns on and the red light reacts when buttons are pressed but the screen is completely black, as if it was turned off completely. Am I fugged? It seems like a simple problem but I don't know enough about CRTs yet. I would open it to check if it's something like blown capacitors but I don't know if even checking it is too risky with my lack of equipment.
>>5425267>Is the Wii's media player any good? Most Wii units will not read DVDs. There is a homebrew called WiiMC, and it may be good...I don't know. I think that for basic DVD functionality, a softmodded Xbox (2001) would be better.

>>5425621>Haven't tried out any of the other ones yet.Thats the one I referenced earlier, but I never really fooled with it. That is pretty damn cool of an idea. Does it preserve the "look" of the vcr pretty good? Quite honestly it seems to be one of the most unique and best uses for the Wii. The Xbox is noisy most all the time, but the wii could make a fairly nice media center setup for a CRT.

Not being facetious but a lot of people expect OSDs and such which this model does not have.Plug something into it to provide it with a signal. If you still don't get any picture, it may be a blown transformer. If you don't hear any noises when you turn it on & you can't get a picture, there is something wrong. If you have never worked on a CRT, read a few guides before you start poking around. Discharge it before you touch anything.
>>5426450>Anyone buy TVs off Ebay? What's the likelihood my $400 investment with no returns policy gets smashed through transit?I bought a GDM-FW900 from ebay a few years ago. I was home when fed-ex quite literally dropped it on my porch and tried to walk off. The box rattled in a very bad way, and it was totally ruined upon inspection. I made them ship it back and got my money back. The bezel was totally shattered, and the base was broken off of it. I never even plugged it in. I paid for it to be delivered in a specific way, and between the seller not boxing it up well, and fed-ex treating it like a ream of paper, it was ruined.

Alright I finally got my crt, its far better than I expected. Model is "Schneider scenaro 145". Game is running on Wii with autismarc at 240p with rgb scart if anyone cares.
>>5431415and heres brighter pic
>>5418694This. Used to watch UY in my panasonic tv tru s video, shit was cash yo.
>>5428484>Also buying from Amazon is usually a safe bet.Wow you were right, it looks really good
>>5431415>its far better than I expected. That is always a great feeling! It looks good as well. I wish we had RGB in the USA without modification.
>>5431504Happy to help.
Euro here, were the Trinitron really that good?
>>5431723for the prices they are going for now, yes
Someone snatched the crt I've been hawking all week on ebay. I was only one day away from getting paid. I HOPE THEY GET IT IN PIECES LIKE THE SHITS THEY ARE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>5431813>when he later on finds out he's still a mere replicant, not a born Joe of this world
>>5431723Never had a Trinitron until recently. I would say it just looks different
>>5431752I can get a 32' for free, but maybe it's overkill? It's one of those widescreen ones I think

>>5432018Oh dear God, never say that shit again.
>>5430082Kek, loving that OC.

>>5432163>>5432132What's debt? I mean outside of a mortgage or a car payment, I just save up the cash... and even then I feel retarded falling for the mortgage and car payment game.
>>5433062Mortgage is fine because you need a place to live and you build equity – you can actually make money off of a mortgage when you sell if you sell when the market is high.Car payments are bad debt IMO, you should have gotten a clunker until you could afford a nicer car as cars always (except for classic cars, but nothing made nowadays will ever be classic) depreciate in value, but it's still fine.Any other debt is a meme. Well, actually, the only other good debt is if you're starting a business that you know will pay off.
>>5433189I should mention that I do have a credit card for cash back rewards, but I pay all my purchases off at the end of the month.
>people that try to start bidding on ebay for a 30 year old TV that's local pick-up only
>>5433534But anon, that's exactly how I got my £5 27" Profeel, £10 BVM-20F1E and £20 PVM-2950QM.
>>5433552All the ones I've seen start the bidding around $80 minimum but average in the 150-200 range. Craigslist is better if you're too lazy to ship a TV, more local people will see it and you won't be stuck relisting the TV for months going "wtf why nobody wants to bid $81 for a TV they got to pick up?"
I've had no luck all month with thrift stores, going to try yard sales this weekend. Feels like just yesterday people were dumping these things and they had stacks of them at the entrances desperately trying to get them out. Now it's like you get weird looks asking thrift store workers if they still get CRT donations.
>>5434149What kind are you looking for?
>>5434149>Now it's like you get weird looks asking thrift store workers if they still get CRT donations.I Have one of "them" drop-offs for clothing near my house. People use it as a dumpster, and Every week there is at least 1 CRT in the 14"-20" size left beside their collection bin. I keep meaning to call them to ask if they even take CRTs. Firstly I would like to know if their retail store sells them. Secondly IF they don't take them, I would ask if they would mind if I did. I have seen nothing too spectacular yet, but by the same token, I really would like to RGB mod my Zenith, but am too scared of making a mistake. I would rather fuck up some junk tv instead of my living room set.
>>5434638Any old piece of shit with faux wood finish to compliment my tv stand.
14" Toshiba TV/DVD Combo, composite. Can't find the remote or get any universal remote or remote app to work with it so this is default. Maybe the IR receiver is broken? Kind of sucks since it just needs a very slight adjustment, and the geometry is good.
im thinking about getting this tv but it looks kinda ugly
my pvm20L2 geometry looks like thisI can't find any options to adjust it the way it needs, what do I do?
do yall prefer the rounded screen or flat screen crts for aesthetics?>>5435110that looks more akin to a late 2000s monitor to me
>>5435134round for both aesthetics and picture quality
>>5427694CGA is another example, but there are only a few games that support 16 color composite, don't have an EGA/VGA mode, and are even worth playing. The technical aspect of it is really cool though. Really blows the water out of all the sharp pixel nuts on here. Even more ironic it was home computers that took advantage of ntsc artifacts.
How did I do? Got it for free. https://worcester.craigslist.org/ele/6822965712.htmlAlso, here's something that's probably good for the emulation scene. Idk I'm new to this stuff. https://www facebook com/marketplace/item/1959706960991922/

>>5435134>prefer the rounded screen or flat screen crts for aesthetics?Yes.I don't have a preference but I have both a flat screen and a very curved screen, both for different reasons. The curved one has a softer look which I would say is more typical of a early 90s set. The flat one has a very crisp and almost monitor like look. Both look great. Both are 2005 models by different makers. They are both 15khz, and it is just how they are made.>>5435619>14" is too smallIt usually is.

Hoping somebody here can help me. My friend just gave me this piece and my small Sony Trini doesn’t have S-Video. Is there a way to get S-Video on it without heavy modding to the TV itself? Sorry I’m new at this
>>5436187it has svideo, surround speakers and can connect to surround speakers too but i guess that doesnt matter right
Hi guys. Can't tell if this Samsung TV has component in. Guy sent me the pic upon request. Please help.
>>5436484Looks like it has composite, component and s-video. Might have to use one of the composite's audio from the look of it.
>>5436484>Can't tell if this Samsung TV has component in. Guy sent me the pic upon request. Please help.I have a samsung txr2035, and it looks like yours does have a similar setup. I don't know what model you have in your picture, but I do know that in the TXR series, the 20" is the only 15khz model. All of the larger models are 480p "EDTV". You could ask the seller to snap a picture of the sticker showing the model number, and you could get the user manual off the internet. On a side note, this samsung is the most clear CRT tv I have ever owned. It almost looks like a monitor.
>>5436279>Is there a way to get S-Video on it without heavy modding to the TV itself?Im gonna assume youre American and thus no scart so answer is no.
>>5436279>Is there a way to get S-Video on it without heavy modding to the TV itself? Sorry I’m new at thisThere is some sort of way to convert S-video to component.
>>5436692>There is some sort of way to convert S-video to component.yeah but there is then no point using s-video in the first place
>>5435619I'll give you a tip to save you time and money: so is 20". You need at least 27" so do yourself a favor and forget the PVMeme and get something large enough to enjoy.
>>5436287>but i guess that doesnt matter rightnot really. That's about standard.
I'm not smart enough to get this downscaling nonsense to actually work since the TV I'm using is a half broken shitbox that can't adjust color properly and the picture always ends up looking washed out. Is there anyone here who would take an Emotia Plus that only works over RGBS? The s-video and composite outputs only show a black and white image no matter what.
>>5436939>The s-video and composite outputs only show a black and white image no matter what.are you feeding an ntsc signal into a pal tv or vice-versa?
>>5437179It's VGA from my PC into NTSC, I'm the same guy who was having trouble up above in the thread. I'm sure at this point there's a bad contact inside the device since I finally got to test RGB and it works, albeit washed out looking.
>>5431963do you have more examples of this
>>5437213annoying enemies or vga monitors?
>>5437235images from the type of tv to show that display form. im curious to see how it looks with other games
>>5437256here's one compared with lcd. also it's not a tv.
>>5437274i see. is there a video where i can look this up, or do you have any more examples of comparison thats more zoomed out. for the whole image i have an idea of say how older games like sonic or golden axe look on a normal tv but this one looks slightly different
>>5437285here's a zoomed out shot, but those tend to look bad with my camera.I can't show those games you mentioned since I don't have it hooked up to a console. someone here's bound to have a vga monitor set up with a 15khz line doubler.
>>5437315is it me or do the colours seem to blend in a bit more. including without the signal to disrupt the image and do that already
>>5436736>yeah but there is then no point using s-video in the first placeIf this is the video adapter he has for a MD/Genesis, there is no other option than to either convert the RGB or S-video to composite without physically altering the television. My rights you are correct, and it would be cheap to get a composite video cable for the MD.
>>5437346with a coarse dot pitch like in >>5437274. the pixels do blend and smooth out, kind of like a natural anti-aliasing. I really like the effect.>>5437315 is a finer pitch monitor and this effect is less pronounced. it looks kinda dull and washed out in this picture but as I said, I blame my camera. irl the image is very sharp and vibrant.
>>5408415I had that tv in 1993
>>543561914 is fine for 2d games, but too small for most 3d
>>5437407>I had that tv in 1993I don't know when they started that line, but it is fairly new for a CRT, but the picture does look typical of something from the early-mid 90s.

Got 100% on worlds 1 to 8 and all the secrets stars inbetween last night. Classic n comfy.
>>5437579I was rent to owning it and had to let it get repossessed because the ex wouldn't just let me keep it and pay it off, then I got a 26 inch JVC..but yip it was the year 93 when that happened
>>5438056>it was the year 93I picked that TV up almost a year ago after watching it set for 5 unplugged in a corner of a 2nd hand store that I frequent. I mainly got it because it looked nearly identical to a set my grandmother had. When I saw it was a 2004 model, It sealed the deal. I cleaned it out when I got it home, and the surprise extra bonus was that it has a wells gardner tube that is found in most arcade monitors. Eventually I do plan on using it in a diy arcade standup. 25" is a great size for the arcade. The only thing I have not decided totally on is what game/system to run on it. I have been looking at neo geo MVS systems, but I also would be happy with a few midway games. NBA Hangtime would be pretty good too, but I don't think it would have the same long term appeal as a neo geo with one of the multi-game carts.
Anyone have much experience doing RGB mods on TVs? I picked up a trinitron (KV-20S40) for two bucks and all it has ar a front and rear composite input. It looks pretty good (yoke needs to be rotated a little) but obviously composite isn't great. Got any info or resources for someone looking to mod in component inputs?
hey guys, is a converter from vga or hdmi to av adapter worth it. im thinking of watching tv shows and how it could be done
>>5437921Neat. When I got my CRT several years ago, one of the first things I did was finish Mario 64 100% because I never did it as a kid.
>>5432132I'm not such a pleb that I let my hobbies put me into debt. Especially hobbies that involve collecting old shit that really doesn't cost that much.
>>5431894This. I was stupid enough to try and have two different CRTs shipped to me over my lifetime. Both ended in disaster, but luckily I got refunded.
>>5430232Not TV, but I picked up a really nice VCR on a whim because it was 10 bucks and I figured I already had the perfect setup for it. Stopped by my parents to nab up a bunch of old tapes from my childhood and it's been a blast. There are few ways to better spend an evening than playin' vidya and topping it off with a favorite movie. Also, my sound system is rad as hell so I honestly prefer watching movies like this to on my LCD. Good audio is easily 75% of the immersion factor, and contrary to what people want you to believe, VHS tapes with Hi-Fi stereo (i.e., almost all of them) sound fantastic.
>>5438693>im thinking of watching tv shows and how it could be donemodded wii or even non-modded ps3 can play videos. ps2 can play dvd's and ps3 even blu-rays.
SOTN on my 1351Q
>>5438759oh, thats another thing i was thinking of. but then you have to download the shows you want before watching it i guess. because with a computer you dont have to do that
>>5438762Forgot to mention: I'm running this on PS2 from a USB using Popsloader, connected to the monitor via a cheap SCART cable from eBay to 4xBNC through an OSSS
>>5438728Out of curiosity what size were the tvs? I assume anything bigger than 14" needs to move by freight and having worked in the freight industry I've seen some shit and done some shit (accidentally) enough to never trust the system.
>>5438843Not him, but I ordered some 8-inchers online once and three of them were broken in transit.
>>5438856(I ordered 4 of them)
Can /crt/ ID this monitor?
>>5438957It's a security monitor of some sort.I'd steer clear due to certainty of burn-in. It might well be black and white too.
do you know if crt tvs are using a resolution like 352x240 or 352x480
>>5439202The levels of zoomer are off the charts
>>5439207im only trying to burn dvds here maybe for tonight can you stop picking on me boomer

>>5438957cctv shit probably.I'd be far more interested in those monitors near the bottom. the vent pattern looks exactly like this olivetti I have. if that's what they are, I can definitely recommend them.
>>5438750what should i look for in a nice VCR, i want to get one, but i dont want some pos model.
>>5439227tvs all use 480i, 240p was just a happy accident
>>5439227Full DVD standard is 720x480 or 720x576 which an SD TV will show in full, only go lower if you're using a low res source or really need to squeeze more video on a disc.
>>5408415how can i know what timings my CRT uses?its an ADI MicroScan G1000, kinda hard to find info on google
>>5439482Could do like I did and get and "editing" VCR. Built for broadcast/studio use. I've seen a really nice JVC model I think, even had s-video. I just gave mine a quick cleaning before I put anything in it and it's been the best VCR I've ever had.
There's this pretty cool vintage Magnavox tv in a local thrift store, made out of real wood but has some cosmetic damage including two holes on the top with tape over them and it doesn't work. They said they wanted to fix it before selling it, I hope they aren't expecting a lot. I'm the only person who will give them business but they'll probably try to scalp the shit out of me saying the $30 replacement tube cost them $200 and it needed expert (my sisters nephew for $10) repair work on top of it being old so it's like totally rare and in demand and shit.
>>5439715ill look into it, any sony models you could recommend?
>>5410186if you have an n64 that S video adapter will fit
>>5439865>if you have an n64 that S video adapter will fitPAL Gamecubes & wiis don't output S-video. It is based on the region, not on the plug.
>>5438517interesting because I really liked that tv, now that I know they continued that model for so long maybe I could find one still. I Wanted a zenith because that's what my family had and it lasted a long time..it never actually ever died that I know of
>>5438763welcome to the 90's zoomer
>>5438763This post made me laugh because only recently did i upgrade from watching stuff on my PC, to buying a 720p LCD TV that i can plug an external HDD into, so now i watch stuff directly off the HDD on the TV. Totally forgot streaming exists.
>>5438763>>5440156I forgot to mention, i tried using the Wii as a media device to play dvd's and HDD stuff, but it sucks. Not only is it 480i so looks crap on a modern TV, it also seems to apply some kind of ugly blur filter to the picture making it much worse for DVDs then a regular SD DVD player.
>>5440160Why are you running at 480i then? Wii supports 480p.
>>5440160why are you talking about modern tv's on crt thread? Why are you using SD console on HD telvision? Why are you trying to play HD content via SD console? I dont understand what you are trying to do or accomplish
>>5440176Not him, but since the Wii supports 480p it can be fine on a modern TV. Not HD of course, but it doesn't require interlacing. Also, are you insinuating DVDs are HD content? They are SD, with a max res of 720x480.
>>5429294kv-21fs140 or 150
>>5440321Technically 480p is not SD but ED (enhanced definition) and the point is that playing DVDs through a wii on a MODERN tv is completely detatched from the purpose of this general
>>5422045beaglebud!looks quite similar to mine.
What do you guys think? Some 70's TV I got that gets no picture and the speakers are at the verge of blowing out. Don't know anything about fixing TV's yet but that crack on the tube doesn't look good.
I plugged s-video in and now my tv won't show a picture anymore, at all. I can't even get static. I'm not upset because it was free, but I can't help but feel like this wasn't my fault this time.Has this happened to anyone else? Is there an easy fix?
How's the sony KV-29FX20A?
There are so many Sony CRT’s on Craigslist in the free to $20 range and I want to save them all and give them a loving home
So here I am again, playing games via emulator + shaders on my PC CRT. And I'm looking at the screen thinking "what could actually be better than this?". I have played games in the "right way" numerous times in true 240p RGB on a variety of CRTs. I have played in rf and composite video on trash CRTs with hipster appeal and the good kind of imperfections. And still I sit here and look at it and think "This is excellent. This is as good or better than anything I've ever seen". The color accuracy is supreme. The geometry is incredibly good. With the lights off and a bias light the contrast and depth of the image is superb. With run-ahead I press a button and the character responds to what feels to me to be instantaneous. And I have played many, many, many games that require a low lag set-up. This feels good. This feels solid. This feels like I could play in a tournament with this set-up. I know no one, not even "the pros" would be able to tell there was any delay in a double blind test. This is it.This is it.This is it.Soon enough I know, I -know- others will know and experience what I am experiencing.
>>5441279Man just dump it or give it to someone who knows what he's doing. Poking in a defective unit with no experience is a good chance to kill or seriously injure yourself.
>>5442296It is a pretty intimidating TV, shit sounds like it's going to blow up and shoot glass fragments in face just turning it on and off. was hoping I could fix it with soldering something loose but it looks like I'm over my head with it. Tossing it seems like a waste though cause it's a full wood set that someone would appreciate if it worked.
>>5442391Even so, beingvas old as it is you don't know if the circuits or wires are well insulated, you might shirt yourself, if you even plan in sticking your hand in it do discharge it first, the capacitors are old and they could just as well blow up.I would be REALLY careful if I were you .
>>5442402>typosGod dammit it's what I get for phoneposting at 5 am.I'm going to bed. Anon don't do anything stupid! An old CRT isn't worth your good health!

how's playing HD video on one of these things? look sharper?
Most CRTs sold in PAL-countries since the late 80s or so have been able to handle 60hz just fine. Does the opposite also apply to CRTs sold in NTSC countries?
