Underrated version of RE1
>>
>>5357371
yup it's super good. a lot of people don't realize you can play "Classic Mode" which is just OG Resident Evil but with a knife button, quick turn, and the nice DS UI.

Best way to play classic RE imo.
>>
>>5357371
It's also the best version of RE1.

You call people autistic, and yet you make up some arbitrary rules that say you can't play certain systems because you can easily remove them from the room where you usually hole up and play video video games. That's something an actual autistic person would come up with. Also, you're trying way too hard to be accepted as an adult. If you want to fake your maturity a little better, then quit sounding so overly-concerned with being caught doing childish things. Just looking at old games from before you were born on an image board themed around edgy cartoons from Japan isn't going to cut it. No actual adult gives a shit about being mistaken for being younger than they are.

Taking a look at this right now. What is with those sudden waves of enemies when you enter certain areas and you got to kill them with the knife? The 3d models and animations are better, but then you got the lower res screen and worse compression for the backgrounds and fmv's. I mean, I remember watching a review for the game on TV and thinking it looked worse than the ps1 version at the time. These days, I pretty much wish this: >>5357569

Sure the character models can be extracted and possibly used to replace the ones in the other versions, but the animations I'm not so sure of...

I started a Jill rebirth, but I dunno. Maybe I've just overindulged on the game beating classic mode twice in a row in two days, but the changes I'm seeing so far aren't very interesting. The knife fights are boring, the only changed puzzle I've seen so far was shockingly stupid (nor do I have any idea what I'm supposed to be doing with the blue boxes), and not only does having more enemies only gets stuffed by having more ammo, but I'm not exactly playing this game for the rich combat. Maybe I'll come back after a couple of days to see if my spark comes back.

I am super excited to try out REmake now, though.

Rebirth or REmake? Has anyone tried upscaling the backgrounds with that new AI? Apparently the FF7 pre-rendered background upscaled nicely, and RE1 is the only pre-rendered game that doesn't have 480p/i backgrounds in some way (2 and 3 have the full size background in the Sourcenext release)

Why is Resident Evil 1 Remake so shit compared to the original, everyone kept shilling it here but holy fuck it's a very divisive experience for me.
It tries to be fresh but it isn't, it's a hell of a lot more backtracking, the campy horror is gone which was arguably my favorite part, and it tries to lengthen the overall experience but it feels draggy.

The modern horror elements aren't exactly terrifying either, Lisa Trevor is forced down your throat pretty hard and facing her is boring modern horror that I'm exactly evading by playing Resident Evil.
>>
>>5369674
Let's not, OK?
>>
This game was the only reason I ever fucked with a DS in the first place. I spent an entire weekend marathon playing it trying to beat each playthrough in under 3 hours to get the best possible endings.

Got most of em.

But when I sold the DS, I sold the game with it. I kind of regret that decision now.
>>
>>5357371
>>5357407
Only version I've played and beaten.
I think I tried to play one of the PSX versions once but found it too primitive, maybe I just picked the wrong one though, is there one that has both quick turn and auto aim on it?
Either way, I like this one, it sticks true to the original with some QOL improvements and optional new features, unlike REmake with the retarded crimson zombie mechanics.
>>
>>5370839
This, fuck the Crimson Zombie mechanic, it was annoying to deal with for no reason at all.

>The modern horror elements aren't exactly terrifying either, Lisa Trevor is forced down your throat pretty hard and facing her is boring modern horror that I'm exactly evading by playing Resident Evil.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Lisa Trevor always felt more like a Silent Hill creature than something from a game called Biohazard.
>>
>>5370721
There's nothing to lose here. The best version of RE1 on PC is locked to fucking HyperVR, may as well try it.
>>5370839
>both quick turn and auto aim on it
RE1 never got quick turn, outside of maybe the DS port, can't remember. Quick turn is unnecessary for RE1 anyways, not as intense as RE2.

Literally how, they were scrapped for a reason. Fast zombies are stupid and they ruin the fun.

Resi Remake sucked, that's why it sold poorly, because it was a shitty rehash of an already perfect game.
>>
>>5370856
They literally only work if you're unaware of them on your first playthrough, and every "REmakefag" (since their first experience was with the shit REmaster) spoils the Crimson Head mechanic and how to avoid them.

You can literally download the most complete build that goes up to the lab or buy the most complete build, physically, on eBay for like $10.
The game is shit anyways and Capcom was right to scrap it.
>>
>>5370853
Yeah, that's what I thought. I tried to play it right after finishing RE2 and the lack of quick turn turned me off from it until the DS port.
>>
>>5370953
...
RE2 didn't have quick turn either
>>
>>5370941
It sold below expectations back in the day since it was a GameCube-exclusive back when most of the fanbase bought a PS2 naturally assuming that it would've been the default console for RE4. Capcom was expecting REmake to be a console seller.

It was because he was given additional lines in ReBirth mode for the Grandfather Clock puzzle, so they re-recorded everything else to make him sound consistent.
>>
>>5370954
I'm pretty sure it did?
I played the DreamCast version though.
>>
I've got a really stupid question regarding the attack and aiming which also applies to 2 and 3.
So, you pull out your gun and can aim up or down but when you aim up it goes all the way up so obviously the shots will miss.
Are you supposed to aim for the head while the aiming is returning to its neutral position?

The only moment I've found aiming up is actually useful is in 2 right at the beginning with the zombies on the side of the fence in the basketball yard.
>>
>>5371675
As far as enemies on the ground go, the main purpose of aiming up is going for headshots, but as you already saw, it only works if you're VERY up close, because otherwise the shots will just miss.

I think a close range upwards aiming shot with the shotgun is pretty much guaranteed to blow a zombie's head off, at least in RE2.
>>
>>5371656
You sure it wasn't RE3? That's the game that introduced quick turns and Lotus Prince didn't mention quick turns in his comparison of every release of RE2
>>5371675
The shotgun as a blast radius that is probably shaped like a circle and anything even near it gets hit. So long as the zombie is a second away from latching onto you, aiming up should work.
>>
>>5360471
>If you play as Jill, Barry just saves you by taking you there and you're automatically healed.

That's not always the case. As Jill, sometimes you have to run to the save room by the stairs near the dining room yourself depending on what events you triggered. Chris, on the other hand, will always be saved by Rebecca one way or another IIRC.
>>
>>5370136
Its definitely a different game but still good. Its still similar enough to RE1 to feel like a respectful remake to me. I just don't get how so many think it can replace the original when there is too many differences. I actually do like that they did some changes though since it made the game feel new enough to be a unique playthrough that first time. My opinion is that the original is better but REmake is high up as one of the best of classic RE games.
>>5370136
>>5370852
I like Lisa but I do agree it feels a bit odd and out of place for the game. It seems to me that they included it mainly to pad out the game a bit more and give the game another boss to fight besides just animals and Tyrant. One thing nobody ever seems to point out about it but me from what I have seen is that the REmake mansion is actually a much more generic spooky haunted mansion trope and you guys bringing up Lisa kind of plays into that actually. Really the only thing REmake's mansion was missing to make it fully like a haunted mansion trope was ghosts in the mansion but obviously that would have been way too out of place and they wouldn't have went that far. This is another reason I prefer the original. Sure REmake's atmosphere is great but so was RE1's.

I always figured this was the best explanation, but all you get from the clock is a pack of shotgun rounds.

If they hired a new actor and re-recorded dialogue for 7 shotgun rounds then that's retarded.
>>
>>5371656
Playing RE2 on DC right now, I'm 100% sure that it doesn't have quick turn. I think you're thinking of 3
>>
I'm playing through REmake now for the first time, and RE1 feels like a proof of concept for it. The original was shockingly easy on both Chris and Jill, the puzzles were braindead, and the only real thing to think about was item juggling while I was sprinting from door to door. The remake has things approaching actual puzzles, and zombies are an actual threat because I'm so starved for stuff to deal with them and it's tougher to just snake around them, especially with them being able to sometimes follow you across rooms or have rooms get suddenly flooded. It just feels like a lot more stuff has been filled out to feel more like a tense crawl through a hostile environment instead of a haunted house themed obstacle course.
>>
How the fuck are you supposed to play with the DS or Gamecube D-pad?
>>
>>5372376
The DS lite has a pretty decent d-pad, the gamecube's isn't the worst but it's tiny as fuck

RE1 plays just fine with the dpad or a stick
>>
>>5370860
REDS could have been better if they added the extra director's cut stuff as optional content.

RE3DS or RE3D, which do you prefer?
The second game would be named RE2DS or RE2D.
>>
Resident Evil 1 was a fun campy horror movie trope with memorably bad voice acting and an awful yet interesting story, if it would be a movie it would be an excellent campy film with interesting concepts that make it layered nonetheless.
As a game it's the same thing but with excellent gameplay that is still fun today, like avoiding or killing zombies depending on their position, a mansion that feels like a maze you get lost in over and over again.

Remake isn't campy horror, it's an attempt to make the first part of a bigger world, a very serious game with themes of sorrow, regret, and betrayal.
All camp is replaced with very monotone delivery, it's overly obsessed with making the first game make sense and look and feel real.
Everything added isn't necessarily good or better, it's more and bigger but that doesn't make it true, it just lengthens the experience.
>>
>RE2 means we'll never get a Resident Evil 3 in the style of Resi Remake 1

Kill me now TBQH

>>5357371
A DS emulator back then around 08 or so was my first time experiencing RE1.
