SNES port of Zelda IIhttps://youtu.be/lz7UGsbnO3o?t=54
In terms of early versions, used to be games from the Mega Man X series, but we've got a handful of them available now. Still would like to see something pre-final of the first MMX game.Other than that, the Shoshinkai version of Super Mario 64.
>>5357168Duke Nukem 3D/ForeverOther than that, pretty much every LucasArts adventure game from Monkey 1 to The Dig, especially the very last one. Those games were infamous for design/asset cuts and developer injokes. An MGS1 beta wouldn't also hurt. Oh, and Sonic 1/3 and CD so we actually know how R2 was supposed to look.
I guess I kinda want to play the version of Mario Kart 64 that had Kamek instead of Donkey Kong.12 Tales Conker 64 looks like it may have been a good little 3D platformer but I feel like I wouldn't trade the Conker we have for it.Also would love to see beta Ocarina of Time. The one that looked like a 3D remake of Zelda 1 and had a jump button. Ocarina of Time is cool but my favorite is still the original and I'd have loved to see it reimagined in 3D.

The original WarCraft. I actually have odd early childhood memories of content that was never in the finished game (like ogres in the forest maps). None of the available pre-release versions I've played were like what I recall. It's almost certainly just a false memory, but the weird thing is that a family member of mine has similar recollections.
Shadowgate Rising on N64I want that sexy redhead sorceress protag. that idiot Jair and Del "Manlet" Cottonwood can take a backseat.
>>5357817>It's almost certainly just a false memory, but the weird thing is that a family member of mine has similar recollections.what you played was most likely the hacked amiga version. It looks like that
>>5357847I never had an Amiga, though. My family's computer was running either MS-DOS or Windows 95 at the time.
>>5357863No clue what you played, but I do wonder how many illegally distributed early versions of games have been lost to time, or more accurately are in the hands of people who don't think anything of them.
>>5357869Not /vr/, but I did initially think of it
>>5357867I just recall watching my older brother play it for a little bit and hearing that it came from a relative. I kind of doubt it was actually some pre-release version (especially considering that this would have been after it had already been released), but the curiosity is still there.
>>5357354There's something really funny about them circling Mario. I imagine Japanese men speaking over it>ah, and there he is the one responsible for all this (destroying blocks and killing turtles)He just looks guilty, because he is.
>>5357863there was a 1mb demo online back then, you probably played that
>>5357876My family didn't have the Internet at the time, but it was probably something like that (on CD or floppy disk) combined with being really little when I saw it and remembering it all wrong.
>>5357883I remember playing starflight at a friends house when we were in first grade, took years to findout what the game was. Looking back I thought gee thats a complex game for a 6 year old. White people are just smart I guess

I wanna play the Gameboy remakes of Zelda 1 and A Link to the Past that they originally planned. You can see many signs of the Zelda 1 remake in the Oracles games and it makes me sad for what could have been. Especially since the Oracle games suck shit. LA is alright though. Should have been an SNES game to eliminate the frequency of item swapping tho.
>>5357168Mario 64 2There was probably no beta footage of it, but I remember in one of my old game magazines they listed it as one of the N64s upcoming games. I was pretty hyped for a possible sequel.
>>5357260This. Stonekeep was amazing.
Not retro but the beta for Mario Sunshine looked neat, what with that giant walker thing that roamed around Delfino.
>>5357874have you ever seen Japanese media? it's probably the announcers going WOOOOOOOOHHH MAJI DESUUUUUUUUUU like a bunch of retards.
>>5358041Also no retro but zelda BOTW before the decision to port it to the switch. We lost the tablet function because the switch controls.
>>5357861Fucking this. Mark of the Wolves with slightly better balance, fixed glitches and 6 more characters... I bet it would still have serious competition today, like 3rd Strike. Then again, all the new characters look pretty damn generic and bland. Except the one next to Kain.

>>5357168Its not fair! its not fair!
>>5357192This was just a demo running on the Mario 64 engine, not a real game.
>>5357606>I guess I kinda want to play the version of Mario Kart 64 that had Kamek instead of Donkey Kong.I remember being super hyped about Kamek being in Mario Kart 64 back when I saw images of the game on a vidya magazine. Then I got the game and there was no Kamek.
Monster Rancher Infinity for the Wii
>>5359971The devs just really liked Jojo a lot, and that showed through in various ways in various games. Supposedly they actually started the Jojo game just as a side project for fun before they ever officially got the license (same thing for Gundam VS.) But as far what sort of message they wanted to get across my making Darkstalkers, the main thing was really that they could do something more than just rereleasing Street Fighter 2. Remember that the first Darkstalkers was the very next thing they put out after having spent 4 years upgrading SF2, after all.
I want to play Daytona USA running on the Virtua Racing Deluxe engine...

I really wish the games' industry changed their stance on all these ridiculous NDA for their games. Who cares? Just open up the vaults. Why do they only release teeny tiny snippets of cut or changed content over decades? The worst thing is they have it archived, Nintendo could make a bunch of month selling beta dumps.
>>5357168recently i played the prototype for Disney's Aladdin on genesis presented at CES.great article about it here.https://gamehistory.org/aladdin-source-code/
>>5360598That is an interesting prototype. In particular the Inside the Lamp level isn't just an unfinished stage there, it is actually almost entirely different from the final game's version of the level. On some Sega forum, people did a bit of research and found that this version of the game closely aligns with some early screenshots published in magazines at the time (likely provided to them by Sega). Somewhat unsurprisingly, Clint Dyer, a Sega employee at the time who apparently had a history of selling prototypes and the like such as the Sonic Crackers prototype, is credited as doing screenshots for Aladdin. So there's a good chance that this was a version he used to produce early promotional screenshots of the game before taking it home and later selling it off to a collector.
>>5357964>the Oracle games suckedThat is wrong, though.
>>5360623>In particular the Inside the Lamp level isn't just an unfinished stage therefunny enough as a person who is very invested in this game that is the only level i didn't check in the prototype.played it last weekend and ran out of time so i left it t that.no time better than the current to do it now.thanks for the info
>>5357964>LA is alright thoughif you like reading text every time you wanna lift a stone and don't have your glove or hoop or if you like shitty power-ups that shouldn't even be part of the game or half of the enemies being straight from the Mario universe and therefore inauthentic... thank goodness Oracles got rid of all that stupid shit.
>>5357173fpbpThe whole game has basically disappeared, after years of development. Supposedly it was a lot darker than the one we got to play, which sounds absurd.
>>5360681It HAS to exist out there, somewhere...
>>5360190Doesn't OOT run on the same engine as Mario 64?
>>5357229I was hyped too.
>>5357551That's it? A SNES sound test includes music from Zelda II and you assume they intended to port the entire game to it?

I'm not interested in the beta game itself but I wish Pokemon looked more like it did in the old concept art for capsule monsters. The sprites in red and blue kind of have that look but I would have liked the artwork to carry it over.
>>5357551It was a tech demo knock up and nothing else unfortunately
Wasn't there going to be some kind of 3D Yoshi game that was going to use the actually good design for Yoshi from the SNES instead of that faggot redesign from the N64?
>>5362356That was a fever dream.
>>5362356>>5362397Not a dream but also not a game, just a tech Demo. Having the old Yoshi design back would have been pretty great.
>>5362356>>5362397>>5362414Maybe he's referring to the game concept which was supposedly turned into Croc after it was shot down by Nintendo or somesuch.

>>5362643That was never a video game.
>>5362660I just liked him better when he looked like a chill dinosaur. He looks fucking weird now. Like it's pretty easy to tell that his current design was a result of extremely primitive 3D rendering technology and it somehow stuck.
>>5361460Well, it seems that most Nintendo games run on Mario 64 engine. But this was just a tech demo, just like this >>5362643, before they actually began developing Zelda 64. The artists talk about it in one of the Zelda artbooks.
>>5362643This looked like shit desu. The Zelda characters looked like shit in Melee too. They did us a favor by not making it an early Gamecube title. Too bad by the time they finally got a handle on how to make games look good on the Gamecube they took the idea behind that tech demo and just smeared mud and feces on it, and we got Twilight Princess instead. If it wasn't for Skyward Sword, TP would truly be the worst art style the series has had.
>>5357263And speaking of, Prey 2. Not retro but FUCK Bethesda.

>>5357173Came here to post this. Earthbound 64 looked good
>>5358049Was loosing the tablet controls really that bad?
>>5362821Never got to enjoy twilight princess because of my crippling arachnophobia
>>5362884I would consider a tech demo acceptable in this thread since the whole idea of a completely changed or unreleased game still remains. (Not OP btw)
>>5363749Tech demos were never intended to be games. They weren't changed into something else, they were simply built standalone as a representation of the console's abilities. For example the Spaceworld fight between Link and Ganondorf was never going to be a game. It was not "changed" into Wind Waker. It's not an "unreleased" game.
>>5363770Now that I think about it tech demo is kinda a loose term like I know many people who call 1-2 switch and wii sports tech demos. And earthbound 64 a game that was supposed to be released in a similar way to the tech demo was playable. I can see how space world can be considered a tech demo (especially since that’s exactly what Nintendo called it) I guess what I’m saying is that the tech and demo parts get mixed up easily. Do you know what I’m saying or am I just being autistic?
>>5363770tech demos aren't released, therefor they are unreleased games dummy
>>5363770Some of that I guess would depend on the intention. A tech demo could be made with the intention of developing it into a game (like a tech demo of a new game engine using a rough model that is meant to be refined into a main character of a planned game using said engine). Or it could just be a rendered 3D movie with no intention of ever using the assets, concepts, and so forth in a playable game.

This one may someday be put into production. There's a company that's interested in doing so, after they remake Kingpin.

I'd like to play the Saturn version of Fighting Force, which was completely finished but never released for some unknown reason. It was the lead development platform, which you can clearly tell because all the characters are made from quads. And yes I know the Alpha was leaked, but that's just the Alpha. I just know someone has this lying dormant on a hard drive somewhere in the world, since as I said, it was finished and about to be pressed for release.
>>5364689It's true, the man has no dick
>>5371575The completed version is just the same game that was on Playstation, N64 and PC. Just on the Saturn.
>>5357173Came here to post this.Game was supposed to be several chapters longer, contain a lot more atypical design elements (since they ran out of time for development) like a full chapter styled like a visual novel, or told with pictures. I believe they planned to have 2~ chapters for Kumatora, who basically got no development in the final version. It was original supposed to be far darker, with Itoi stating that the version of the island was so horrible he didn't want to review his script, and intended the players to scream and cry by the finale. You can see some of this in the dummied out stuff for the GBA, the entire final battle intended to have no dialogue and only convey raw psychological trauma.A shame that he softened up, became a father, and killed scenario for the Evangelion of vidya games.
