What are some quality examples of sprite-based jRPGs that don't use static "billboard" monsters like Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy? Breath of Fire and Grandia spring to mind
>>5203628Lunar is a good example
>>5203628what about chrono trigger?
>>5203628BoF sprites were animated in 1993. Think about it for a second.
>>5203628>those spritesMuh dicc
>>5204068>he's still alive
>>5204332They look beautiful in action.
>>5204058Wow the monster sprites are animated. Surely this must mean it's a great game compared to a meme series like DQ
>>5204058I thought about it for EXACLTY one second
>>5204806Not that great an accomplishment.
>>5203638OP did ask for "quality examples"
>>5205872Shut up contrarian, Chrono Trigger is a good game. It's drastically overrated and pretty easy, sure, but it's not BAD.
>>5204719Drag-On Quest' UI makes it a horrible experience.
>>5207104If it's drastically overrated and piss easy (which it is), why are you calling him a contrarian? That's just like the pot calling the kettle black, man.
>>5207667I think that who you replied to went over your head.Quality isn't exclusive to hard and overrated. Remember difficulty is subjective and collective ratings can be incredibly high when a good game is good, yet still undeserving of the amount of 9/10's it got.
>>5203628Is this cockroach suppose to be an example of a monster that isn't static? Because it's got 2 wavy lines attached to it? That's cute.
>>5208128It is. That's how turbo autists think.
>>5204058>1993Bit slow off the mark, eh? This one's from 1987, on an 8-bit console. Did Nintendo console based RPGs even try?
>>5208128It's an example of how literally the least amount of effort imaginable is still more than what Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest were willing to do, yes
>>5210437Wow you're upset.
>>5213118FUCKING SEETHING LMFAO
Shining Force games
>>5213132Eh, Frontier's sprites aren't really that good to look at, they're all prerendered 3D models like those used in DKC or SMRPG and the animation itself is also so so, what makes them look good is the battle choreography, Frontier 2 is the contrary, really high quality sprites(though a lot of those are also prerendered) but meh battle choreography.
>>5203628>>5204497how come this looks lightyears better than atlus shit that came out a decade later
>>5213159i completely misinterpreted the original post as "what games have non generic fantasy monsters"as I completely missed the word and intention behind static.
