What do you have going in the background while you are working on stuff?Audiobooks? Podcasts? Music? Or do you work in total silence.
>>5203510Thanks. I noticed that juuust a tad too late.
>>5203512Usually watching random youtube shit. Fri-Sun I watch tangibly doom related streams.

>>5203517I did. I actually have 3, but have only had 2 set up for the last 2 years. And atm only have one set up, so I just shrink the video in the corner...
Are there any Trump themed .wads?
>>5203496how dare you

>Dynamic lightsHow do I use these well, without going overboard like I'm Torm667 on ritalin.
>>5203543Only add them to things which would emit light.
>>5203496I posted this on th Zdoom forums earlier but since that site is usually inactive as hell. I might as well bring it up here. I recall there being a megawad that featured multicolored wolfenstein soldiers in one map, I used the decorate scripts from it a while back. But ever since I accidentally deleted my Doom mods folder when I was cleaning out my computer. I've lost all recounts of what this certain mod was called. Here's a photo of said enemies. If anybody knows what I'm talking about, feel free to respond.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaNRKRDPU_QWhat do you guys think? Do you think his fears are grounded?
how do I get a map out of a pk3 file so i can look at it in doombuilder?
>>5203576rename it to .zip and unzip it with an appropriate program such as 7zip or WinZip
>>5203571Romero has made new maps, hosted/played at tournaments at events, provided alpha/beta resource dumps, and received the first physical Cacoward in recent years, he's definitely the most engaged among them. Carmack's never been the sort to think about the past. Tom probably doesn't have pleasant memories of the time. I haven't heard anything about Adrian since the whole thing with his sister being kidnapped, but he was always one of the more introverted members of the group anyway. Kevin Cloud and Shawn Green are still at id last I'd heard, though I'm not so sure about Shawn. Bobby Prince appeared on Composers Play recently, and Sandy did an AMA on reddit. I don't know what became of American McGee, Donna Jackson, or Dave Taylor.Romero definitely still gives a shit. He's probably the only one who still cares as much as he does. The others have moved on by and large, some with fond memories they're happy to share, others not so much.
>>5203587>>5203571McGee lives in asia somewhere and still makes videogames, Tom Hall had a stroke but he's alive. You can find out more about them on the wiki.
>>5203591Specifically, McGee lives on a boat and spends time shitposting on Twitter about Tim Willits talking shit.
>>5203587>I haven't heard anything about Adrian since the whole thing with his sister being kidnapped,That was McGee. Adrian basically fell off the face of the earth until showing up with Romero for his since-killed Kickstarter, then ran away back off the internet again.
>>5203601Fucking lol. When I become a crazy billionaire I'll hire all the old guys at ID and tell them to make a game. Biggest obstacle will be reining in Carmack's autism.
>>5203587>I don't know what became of American McGeeYou and me both dude. He's shitposting from his boat in China everyday, biding time until something related to Alice magically gets put out by Spicy Horse.
>>5203609Carmack thrives in an environment where he believes he can innovate, if you wanted to get Carmack to work for you, you would have to provide him with something that would allow him to do that better than VR currently allows him to.I sincerely doubt he could be persuaded with mere money.
>>5203621We'll tell him he can implement the latest hot shit he's obsessed with. The real challenge will be getting him to get along with Romero.
>>5203609>I'll hire all the old guys at IDDon't hire Tim, he'll say he invented everything.>>5203617I can't blame him for just doing whatever, he's had it rough. His sister went missing three or so years ago, amidst there being death threats against him and his family for him calling game journalists dicks. The police never really seemed to do anything and there doesn't seem to have been any conclusive evidence of what happened to her.Not the best to have in your head while developing anything.
>>5203625>The police never really seemed to do anything and there doesn't seem to have been any conclusive evidence of what happened to her.My father died two and a half years ago. The police suspected foul play, but couldn't confirm since his corpse had been missing for four months and was out rotting on a small, hidden trail. There's not much anyone can go off of besides "X is missing". Police question people close to them, then people with motives, and then all you can hope for is that evidence or a note pops up. It's not fair to blame detectives for not being miracle workers.Still, I can understand why he's frustrated and when batshit loco for a bit. But at least now he's finding something to do on his shitposting boat, which is good. You need to fill your time with things to do to stay active.
>UT is no longer in active development because of FortniteI mean I figured it over a year ago, but it hurts hearing it officially.https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/12/06/unreal-tournament-status/

This is just a repeat my map post from the last thread with some additions, if any missed it, or cares, lol. Pic relatedOkay, my dudes, it's done. I've been busy, so it took longer than I thought it would, but here's my map. Since the thread is starting to reach critical mass, I'll post it in the next one, too, perhaps updated if there's anything wrong with the level. This map should play well with mods that replace doom textures with PBR Materials, given that the map is lit almost entirely with dynamic lights.Video: (doesn't show any secrets)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzaUAWd8sSo Link is in the description. 4Chan thinks my post is spam when I add it to my post directly. Also, feel free to post screenshots if your running mods that make it look sp00py or otherwise. Have fun, my dudes.
>>5203761a lot of links in the description, which one leads to you?
>>5203761Your map is neat but what the fuck is that site you're hosting it on?
>>5203768I only posted one link in the description. Makes me wonder if Youtube or Google is doing something retarded that I can't see. Anyway, it's the link directly after the word "Download:"Pic related is exactly what I see my description as.
>>5203778>Your map is neatThanks! > but what the fuck is that site you're hosting it on?I'm hosting it on We Transfer. It's for temporary download links without needing to create an account. I normally host on Mediafire, but I entered my password incorrectly too many times and it locked me out for an hour last night. I'll replace the link with a proper one in a few hours.
>>5203784Thanks, I watched the playthrough you did to the end. Is this your first map? How long from inception to completion did you take to make it?>archiving shitYeah I think a lot of websites are starting to dislike it, but the biggest haters of it I know for a fact are media outlets as they've said themselves that people who hate them archive them to hate read but not give (you)s to.
>>5203794>Is this your first map? This the third map I released. I posted one on some Daggerfall forum ages ago. And had another one in DUMP 2. I've been playing around with Doom mapping for over 10 years, I'm just bad at finishing and releasing stuff.>How long from inception to completion did you take to make it?Form inception to finish about a week. Maybe a couple days more. I'm managing mapping and about two college papers + finals, so that slows me down quite a bit. There were several days in that time period when I couldn't do any work on it at all. A lot of that time went into doing the smaller details, and especially the lighting.
>>5203806A week?Fuck me sideways I'm just now working on a map I incepted about 5 years ago.
>>5203646so that is how light works
>>5203524I dare.I wanted to use it, because the "OP is on vacation" thing, but I also wanted it to relate to Doom, because the 25th anniversary and all. Not sure if this thread will live until then, though.

>>5203818>I'm just now working on a map I incepted about 5 years ago.Why has it taken five years?
>>5203853I wonder if it'll be free for people who already own Blood on Steam.
>>5203853>Blood will look much like its original version, similar to the studio’s other remasters.Well, at least it something. It would be really nice to see 3D models and a fancy rendering engine, or a the very least, higher res sprites with smoother animation.

I know I mentioned it on the previous thread, but I would still like more opinions as I'm going on a trip soon and wont have internet. Any good wads that play at the easier relaxed pace as Episode 1 in Ultimate Doom?
>>5203901Try the big megawads and lower the difficulty?Speed of Doom was excellent in this regard.Go to the doom wiki and look for megawads by year and go through that - give you plenty of material.Actually, the recently released TNT2 was bloody fantastic.
>>5203496Looking a doom possibly hexen mod that was in ancient greece/rome? I can remember that you start in a friendly town with no monsters sorry for the inconvenience due to the lack of more information it was a long time ago but I want to find it again

>>5203853I wonder if Death Wish will be updated to be compatible with this.
Am I allowed to plan out a map design and attempt to make it in 100 minutes or less for the 100 minutes of /vr/ thing? I have extreme OCD when it comes to making something where I go back time after time again to make little changes unless I have a plan in front of me. I was gonna sketch it on paper then make it. I'm not that experienced in map design, but I'd at least like to take a shot at it.
>>5203591Tom made pretty much a full recovery as I recall. That stroke was a long while ago though.>>5203853MFW
>>5203929death wish was fucking great, some minor bullshit here and there but production values were excellent, i was amazed he was able to convincingly make a space station level with the standard textures
>>5203859>3D modelsJust like pretty much every retro FPS that was originally using 2D graphics, you don't swap in 3D models without it looking off or fucked up. The game liberally made use of voxel models as is, but there's no way anyone could recreate the cultists and various monsters to look quite right.

I did this for the first time right in time for Dusk tonight. Quakespasm didn't like saving my runes between episodes so I had to cheat my way to battle Shub. Fuck Spawns.
>>5203862Same anon that posted the map here. For me, one of the quotes that really helped me with art, specifically my /3/ related stuff is “Inspiration is for amateurs — the rest of us just show up and get to work.” ~Chuck CloseEssentially, it advocates for you to learn the discipline to simply sit down and do something regardless of motivation or inspiration to do so. This is how I got my Doom map done in a week, and when I took the quote to heart, my /3/ stuff got better than it was.Being Diagnosed with ADHD or whatever they're calling it nowadays, it was difficult for me, but rewarding. Like me, I think you'll find that once you start mapping, even if you don't feel like it at the outset, if you stick with it for just 15 minutes, you'll not want to put it down for the next hour.

>>5205190Not that E1M8, but yeah Sign of Evil is something that's haunted my memories since childhood since I heard it for the first time. The E1M8 I'm talking about is a wholly original piece for Quake: Descent into Heresy. >>5206795Bolognese for being compatible with Zandronum mods and pre 3.3 GZDoom mods. All of the other current ones run on zscript now.
I have came up with a theory for the BFG10K in Eternal and it's this:>The BFG10K isn't the big cannon on Phobos>It is, however, being used as a source of power/fuel for the cannon, just to make it powerfull>Doomguy must go to the area with the cannon, to take the actual BFG, which is then a new weapon in the gameSo, either there are three special weapons (Chainsaw, BFG10k replacing 9000, not-crucible) or not and i don't know what to expect for 10k's gameplay.I just thought of this because if the sword will replace the BFG, then we may not have an actual BFG as part of the gameplay.
>>5206795bolognese is good because it doesn't slow my potato down to a crawl as nash is superior cause it fits everyfuckingthing

I think I just have to git gud and actually learn how to play it, but I can't help but feel like its kind of nonesense to have a game that plays this fast with everything else about it. My biggest gripe is probably the ammo, it really doesn't mesh well when the melee is kinda crap and the speed is like graf zahl smoked a fat shard of meth. Until Graf Zahl and his retarded gaggle of a dev team implements database support and unfucks Zdoom's network architecture to support more players, Zandronum fills an important niche. Also if they could get it so that multiplayer worked fine out of the box without needing to waste time with configuring it, that would be great too.

Hello guys.I'm trying to make a floating pyramid but am having trouble. I know floating 3D slopes are possible as I've seen it done but I'm not sure how to do it here, i'm using UDMF format.Tried the normal way but the vertices only appear on the "true" floor and ceiling, not on the 3D floor. Thoughts?
>>5203902>>5203853>>5204306If Kaiser is working on it, it would probably have his algorithm for proper software-like prite rendering included which is a big plus.I wonder why nobody else implemented it since the code for Strife VE is open.
>>5203539i really do hope they show more of Eternal to commemorate the occasion.
>>5205248>>5205234It's basically additional layer (some times several) of VM stacked on top of an executable. On modern systems it does not affect much, maybe 3-4 fps loss, but to say that it does not degrade performance at all would be a lie, as any overhead does that.It would be much more noticable on slower machines. The exact implementation of Denuvo is on the game developer, so if implemented in a wrong way (like putting in too many checks on events that happen too often may degrade the performance significantly. When it is hacked it is NOT removed (not by crackers), so the overhead and performance impact stays on pirated version as well. Some times developers remove denuvo after its hacked, most of the time they dont bother, which leaves you with worse optimised product that can stop working in a decade when Denuvo goes broke, or some other form of DRM makes it obsolete.
You think Blood will get a console port?
>>5205432It basically removes everything good that was in BD, leaving only useless insignificant fluff. You should try a combo of Universal Gibs (set to use vanilla blood) with new Nashgore - in that load order.

Why does Doom Eternal look so slow?
>>5207773Do you play Quake 1 deathmatch on meth?
>>5207809No, I just played brutal doom for the first time just recently, and it's weird how the only thing they didn't copy was the speed. Trailer felt painfully slow, which is weird when they look like they're trying to make a fast paced arena game. Every time the guy dashed to move around, it felt like he was unconsciously trying to go faster. I mean if they were remaking doom as the slower corridor kind of game, that would be fine. But they're not. It's just a wave shooter or whatever you call it. Also why is there no kicking.
>>5207597just use another dummy sector on the end
>>5206058don't look it's gayyes i know its sunday, we get to be late too
>>52078211) Trailer's and game presentations like that are made deliberately slow, so people could see the details. Also most probably played on a controller2) The speed of the original Doom requires apropriately scaled environments, which at the current demands for detail density would easily overload even most modern hardware, not to mention would take longer to make.3) If the detail density is kept, another problem arise: designing detailed environments that arent too cluttered for such speed. This is a problem some over-detailed doom maps show, where player can easily get caugfht up on the parts of the environment. And what in oldDoom counts as overdetailed in nuDoom would look heavily underdetailed. If you build detailed areas, but leave the base movement planes clear of hindrances, you will get the same effect as overdetailed ceiling has in a Doom map - too many details on one place, not many in others. High fidelity areas simply don't lend themselves to that kind of design.
>>5207773the PC gameplay section looked pretty frantic
>>5203496Would you rather: a) DOOM2 on Wii U b) Final DOOM on Soulja boy box(yes he has a console) c) DOOM2 on Dreamcast OR d) Ultimate DOOM on hacked Xbox 360 Elite?
>>5207960A or D
>>5207960It’s highly unlikely a Dreamcast could run Doom 2. Maybe Wolf3d if it was windowed and some sprites removed. But def not Doom 2.
>>5207825>>5207597Ok, can anybody tell me why when I slope the control sector by a small amount......it moves the slope the player would see by a HUGE amount?I'd want the player to see something a few meters high, but on the scale it's going it would end up being a few hundred meters high.

>>5208090The machine gun gets stronger at high heat, the flamethrower is always good regardless, it just has a shorter range and builds heat up really fast. You could alternate between firing the explosive fireball and using the machinegun if you wanted to, just gotta make sure to not go overboard in either direction.I'm having a lot of fun with this weapon, the projectile bullets mark dudes like another weapon of Kustam's, and when enemies are marked they take more damage, so you could mark some nerds and then roast them extra hard with the flamer.I swear this'll be the last heat-based weapon setup for awhile.

>>5206850Droplets has gotten kinda ugly but it's exactly what you're looking for, even at high amounts of blood you don't get huge goresplosions from shooting someone with a shotgun, instead it tries to splash blood somewhat accurately to how the target was wounded/killed.

>>5208097cool concept, i'd make the muzzle flash go from red to blue depending on the heat to symbolize the power, but maybe i'm overcomplicating it
>>5208293The muzzleflash gets bigger when the machinegun gets stronger, turning it blue seems weird to me seeing as the flamer is always blue. Orange/red flashes means heat goes down, blue flashes mean heat goes up.
if they make another official doom mapset, i hope for new textures and props
>>5208253Yeah. I'm not sure of the specifics though, or how a projector compares. Something about refresh rate and scan lines, but I don't know if there's more to it. You can hack together a wiimote to work, but that's not worth it. Someone is making one with an ir sensor, but it's not released.
>>5208057Quake 1&2 and SS1 were made with even more mouse support in mind tbf.
>>5203496A doom 2 mod where all ranged except for maybe the pistol and chaingun are elemental magical techniques would be awesome.
>>5207018I don't, this is a very old gore mod as well, from like 2010 i think.
>>5207393To be 100% fair, if it was a straight mapset, it'd be okay. Mark isn't a bad mapper - I believe he values aesthetics over gameplay a bit, but then Romeo would be there to reign him in.A level with structure (sequence, encounters) designed by Romero and aesthetics by Mark could genuinely be god tier.
>>5208040These games were designed with mouse in mind. Keyboard was only there for people who didn't have a mouse, because it was still expensive, but I can imagine you could also e.g. use a joystick.Better question: I wonder if anybody back in the day used a paddle controller for Doom. I mean, it's not like you need vertical movement...
>>5208405Guy you replied to here.I could see that actually, Mark makes maps at an insane speed. He'd make an entire level in the time it takes me to finish making up my mind on textures. >>5208414I think the Cyberdemon was set up with only keyboard in mind, if you fight him like that he's much more challenging. But if he's easy also keep in mind players were never expected to have had a fight like that before.
>>5208405>Romeo would be there to reign him inI never thought I would read those words (but you might be right)>>5208414>joystickpic related
>>5208418It's funny how much they marketed this like people market the oculus rift, really puts things in perspective.
>>5203496Sega Saturn had a Keyboard and mouse controller. It was used mainly for browsing on Sega Netlink and a couple Japan-only titles, but it could have been made to support both Saturn Doom and Saturn Quake. Also, the Saturn keyboard+mouse would have been very useful in playing System Shock 1 and Darkseed.

>>52078211) Brutal Doom is not the true inspiration for literally any mechanics in the new doom games.2) There is a section of the Doom Eternal gameplay with a PC player and that is going to be the true speed of the game.3) In Doom Eternal you can now punch whenever you want with your left hand, so there's no need for a kick. Plus, none of the canon doom games have had a kick, that's a brutal doom thing.4) The dash is just a replacement for strafe jumping, and the way they are implementing it is (in my opinion) pretty fuckin sick.5) ''the only thing they didn't copy was the speed'' It seems like you didn't play Doom 2016. >>5208306CRT blasts a ray of photons directly at you (through the screen). Light gun detects that. It's sensors are very simple. The synch mechanism gets the exact moment the trigger was pressed and whether or not it catch a blast of photons at that precise moment. Then it checks where was the photon ray at the time and whether it was drawing your supposed target. If it was, and the photons were caught by gun - they you hit it.This obviously does not work if there are no photons being blasted at it. The reflection of projector or luminescense of a LCD is not enough for that. There are devices that work with emulation - they substitute mouse clicks with a wiimote-like device to achieve same effect. You can also do the same with just a wiimote and some special software.
