/vg/ I implore your help. I can't for the love of god find ANY video of this game bar the first level. I played this game 20 years ago and i never manged to find what the game had to offer beyond the second level. Has anyone any kind of hint on where can i find ANYTHING about this game?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5zihwHwYgA
Here's one of the few video i have found
>>
Why not play the game again?
>>
>>5198497
I tried but it seems every configuration i try simply breaks the game.
>>
>>5198508
Thats a shame... Try a virtual box maybe? Either way, the game looks interesting. I'm surprised I never heard of it
>>

>>
>>5198523
What steps exactly did you follow? What sort of error messages did you receive? If you can transcribe or screenshot them, you might get useful advice.
>>
>>5198908
1) intalled W95 on the VB
2)took the ISO/bin from the archive
3)installed the game
4)did't work
>>
>>5199943
Compatibilty mode of Windows 10 Simply doesn't boot the cd, virtual mode on Windows Is the same

Virtual box kinda sucks for old 3d game
>>
Have you tried PCem?
>>
>>5199956
PCem is only good up to 486-era hardware.

Why not DosBox my dude?

1) Use a win98 SE virtualbox setup, i'm sure you can find a win98 SE iso. I gave it 512 MB ram
2) setup scitech display doctor so you can get better colors and install a sound driver using the included instructions. shit upload sitelink: ufile.io/ouli3
3) full install and let it install directX, i got my bin/cue from archive.org
4) once in game set it to high detail in the setting otherwise it flickers.

not sure if the sound driver is necessary but my setup has it.
>>
>>5200368
Forgot to mention that virtualbox has a slight sound delay issue for me in games, shouldn't be too unbearable.
Also no music, but I can't even find BGM music on the disc or install dir. I might be blind.
>>
>>5200368
Tnx i will try as soon as possibile. In the case you menaged to make It run Can you please post a screenshot of the third level? It's something i've wanted for 20 years

Level 2 is floaty block hell.
Level 3 looks similar to level 1 (tutorial), but you can ride a hot air balloon, granted it works the exact same as any other floaty transport block.

Power ups don't respawn unless you die, so save often if you get it working (F5 save F9 load).
This jump potion is a nice example, it last for 4 seconds. You need to jump towards a platform above you immediatly or you are stuck.

The guy moves rather quickly so precision platforming is a hassle. shooting is basic and the puzzles are basic as well.
I have been on a binge of terrible davilex games lately so I'm used to it, so I think it's better if you play it yourself.
It's mediocre at best.
>>
>>5200528
also most of the levels require "precison" platforming as well so it can become a reloadfest.
>>
>>5200368
i can't find the sound driver
>>
>>5200532
Well then it's just as i remember
>>
>>5200535
there's a rar inside the rar, in that rar is a .iso with a folder on it, in that folder you'll find the sound driver.
point it to that folder when you install it manually. plug and play should give you a name when the device install fails, look for that device name in the device list.
Make sure that the virtualbox audio device is set to ICH AC97.

Go to control panel -> system -> 2nd tab, mine is dutch so i'm guessing it should say device management -> it'll be one of the ones with a yellow ! mark.

Will probably start to upload them in a few hours, got to edit out the exploratory deaths, otherwise it would be an even worse hassle to watch.
>>

Here's a link to the playlist, got 3 levels uploaded. Would've been four but forgot to clean up the capture, so have to re-render that one.
I'll continue tomorrow and if the thread isn't buried i'll post again when they're all uploaded.

There are no in-game checkpoints but you can save whenever you want so its not that bad.

>>5201358
Just tried to do a basic install in DOSbox, but it looks like the installer isn't compatible with DOS. Moved the files from the .vhd to my actual HDD so dosbox could use it and even pre-installed it doesn't allow DOS to run it.
Win 2k also doesn't install it, so its safe to assume it and anything above it can't install and run the game normally.
Maybe dualboot win95/98? I doubt external storage installs will work, you would require extra drivers for the storage medium from what I read. I doubt many of the manufacturers still supply win95/98 drivers.
Best would be a unused trash hdd, but that's a lot of effort just for this game.

>>
>>5201936
This is why they give you 5 keys instead of just 1, they could've also made it like other key items, which have infinite uses.

There's another similar situation, in one level they give you coins as an item, you can use them to buy shit. If you spend all your money it'll force you to play over because you need to buy a certain item, "mexican jumping beans".
They are nice enough to give you some extra coins when you kill an enemy NEAR the unreachable platform, so that should be enough of a hint to figure it out.

Another good one is that when you jump on a currently moving platform that velocity is added to the regular velocity for your jump. So if a platform goes up and you then decide to jump you'll jump higher.

This game seems to be designed to kill Valve Playtesters.

That level was such a fucking pain to deal with.
Died many times trying to get it in one run or at least get a decent chunk of the level done.

The egg and ham floaty letterblock puzzle also seems to solve itself, I shot it but i'm not even sure it did anything most of the time.

If you get the first egg squashed you should get a gun which stops the eggs from moving. I'm not sure if you even need to be succesful in the puzzle to continue, at least one egg is enough.

If you play the game, go for waterworks.

>>
>>5202152
Game has a camera positioned so you can see your jump apex, and then designs the jumping around that.
And to do that, you need third person. Is it really that hard to think about it from a glance?

Well that was the last video edited and uploaded, I spent far more time ""editing"" the videos than I did playing the game.

The final boss fight takes a gargantuan 25 seconds and the ending fits the game perfectly, the endings starts at 1:52 in the final video.

I'd say level 5, nice and simple. Level 6 was "interesting" but it amounted to "oh, you need this".
The game probably didn't crash, that was the ending. You "wake up" and go back to your mundane life, thus the exit to desktop. Easy excuse to not make an ending.
It might also be possible the archive.org dump is a RIP, but the image seems like a full disc.
At least the game was stable, I didn't have a crash at all, kinda shocking.

So do the puzzles consist on shooting objects radomly hoping that some platforms will start moving?
>>
>>5202567 meant for>>5202551
>>
Now this is my kind of obscure jank
>>
>>5202567
Depends, some levels have movable platforms when shot, generally you are looking for shootable buttons or objects. The shootable platforms tend to be pretty "obvious", you will have no where to go so you'll shoot the platform.
In that level certain buttons weren't triggerable until other buttons are pressed and it doesn't help that the tip states "break the computer's shield", so ofcourse you'd shoot it, turns out you randomly shoot the green and red buttons near the computer.
As long as you just shoot everything you should be fine though, its not like running out of ammo is very likely.

Ok let's review how bad this game really is:
>No respawnable run and jump Potions.Miss >No checkpoint. The game is constructed around savescumming
>Limited throwable keys.If you miss the lock too much times you are fucked
>The player moves gliding at hight speed. No way to go slower. The game is also full of precise jumping
>Some items must be buyed with coins. If you buy too much ammo with said coins you will not be able to progress further in the game
>The level Breakfast of Champions is so bad the game allows you to directly skip it
>>
Figured out one last thing out about the game. There IS music, it's just not visible in explorer.
Open the disk with a media player and it should find and play the tracks. Atleast on windows 7.
I couldn't get them to work in game though. Maybe a sound driver/vbox/CD image issue. My win98 vbox can't play the mounted image as an audio cd, which might be why the music doesn't work for me. Maybe someone can try it with Vbox's default sound driver for win98, but the music doesn't seem that great anyways.
