He got the theme wrong but he still pointed out something.
Fuck starter evos having dumb shoehorned human-related "themes" that ruin their designs.
Let's go back to simple and majestic creatures like Venusaur, Swampert and Torterra.
>>
>>38304826
>Let's go back
/vp/ isn't in charge of pokemon
>>
>>38304826
Nah let's not
>>
>>38304826
They never will, because they want designs they can make toys out of and have star in the anime and Super Smash Bros.
>>
>>38304826
Fuck off, Decidueye is great enough as is.
>>
>>38304826
>venushit
>majestic
kek, good one.
>>
>>38304846
>dude in owlsuit
>great

Yeah nah
Faggot can't even fly, it's literally a human in owl disguisement
>>
>>38304843
Smash ruined Pokemon
Why do people even play this shit?

>DUDE STREET FIGHTER WITH NINTENDO CHARACTERS LMAO
>>
>>38304826
>Let’s go back to simple and majestic creatures like Venusaur and Torterra
Literally the least popular starters of their respective trios
>>
>>38304826
>preferring It Just Gets Bigger to something clever and memorable
>>
>>38304851
Does it's legs bend like a human's? If anything, Blaziken looks like a dude in a chicken suit.
>>
>>38304859
Pretty sure Torterra is more popular than Empoleon
>>
>>38304843
Ironically enough Deshitueye didn't get to be in either
>>
>>38304826
it was there since the start
you're just mad because it's on a starter now
>>
>>38304860
None of the final form in OP pic look even remotly like Rowlet
Just because a design doesn't have some epic human theme doesn't mean it "just gets bigger".
"Just gets bigger" means things like Poliwhirl and Poliwrath.
>>
>>38304861
>Does it's legs bend like a human's?
I've seen people's legs bent like that. Not pretty.
>>
>>38304869
That's precisely what he said.
>>
>>38304869
Yeah, that's the entire point though.
It was fine when it was on irrelevant shitmons like Jynx and Mr.Mime (who ended up the least popular Gen 1 pokemon for this reason btw), but plaguing starter lines with this shit is cancer.
>>
>>38304878
What I mean is that Decidueye's legs are still bird-like.
>>
>38304855(You)
>>
>>38304892
starter or not, it's still a pokemon
>>
>>38304892
Just don't use the starter bro
>>
>>38304981
I everstoned my Rowlet
But I still wish it had became a majestic bird, instead of some edgy dude in a fursuit.

Aw yes, here we have the usual anon express his disgruntlement with generation 7 Pokemon for the umpteenth time. I applaud his attempt at something new by posting a familiar photo from 2016 but 3 years have pass so this act offers nothing of value. Such nativity from the mind to believe that designs would remain strong after a decade's worth of time. Such self-entitlement from his being to think that designs would be up to his standards rather than adapt to the new, and worse, tastes of modern children. I too dislike the outcomes of Alola but its existence relative to me is to convey that I should acquire new skills and live out life rather than remain a child at heart so to evolve as the Pokemon I cherished have.

I actually really love this design lol

My problem with Decidueye is that is doesn't look "ghost".
I mean, sure Incineshit and Primarina look both dark and fairy respectively, but it doesn't happen with Decidueye

as a grassfag for 6 gens, gen 7 is the first time I didn't chose a grass starter on my playthrough bc decidueye is shit.
Design-wise, it's too lame unlike the vastly superior dhelmise. Not even cute like tsareena.
In battle, it's too slow to sweep, too fast for trick room, too frail to stall, too weak to wallbreak. Doesn't even have incineroar's utiity. A perfect storm of being shit. A perfect shitstorm
>>
>>38304863
Honestly when ever has a quadruped been the most popular starter?
>>

gen 5 because serperior ha was only released in gen 6

No.
>>

>creative and interesting ones
>Decidueye
Yo get your eyes checked.
>>
>>38306840
>Most creative batch is gen 6
>Other than greninja the most unpopular
>One of the least is gen 1
>Most popular starters
>>
>>38306884
>Most creative batch

most creative is Gen VII sans Decidueye. There's a lot of neat themes and imagery going on with Prima and Roar.
>>
>>38306874
I don't particularly care for Decidueye but the OP seems like she's referring to Incineroar, Primarina, and the Gen 6 starters too, maybe even Gen 5.
>>
>>38306884
>greninja the most unpopular
>>
>>38306874
But it is. Indeed nobody expected that.
>>
>>38304826
The bottom design was made for little more than shitposting purposes but somehow managed to be a much more natural progression from Dartrix as well as a better design on its own than Decidueye.
>>
>>38304846
All gen7 starters are the most retarded garbage we've had so far.
>>
>>38306998
>understanding/learning motifs is hard, m'kay?
>>
>>38304843
As long as you have limbs and a way to move comfortably on land any design works for Smash. There are plenty of non humanoids playable. The creative bankruptcy of Game Freak, the ashnime and furfags are to blame before Smash.
>>
Non-humanoid theme + Animal is the best outcome
>>
>>38306977
Being unexpected isn't necessarily a good thing, especially when the execution is lacking. Putting it simply, 9/10 for idea, 4/10 for the actual design.
>>
>>38305070
See. This is what happens when everyone neglects Torterra and approve of the other human-influenced two. Before you know it, all Gen 5 starters have human themes but still look like animals, Gen 6 continues this but all are now humanoid, and Gen 7 evolves on this even more with less subtle human themes
>>
>>38304826
I'd use the shit out of that bottom one
Fuck your arbitrary standards
>>
>>38306737
This is some really specialised stupidity. Real specialised.
>>
>>38307040
If you don't like the execution is your problem, but you cannot say "it's uncreative and not interesting" if you then say "9/10 for idea".
I like the execution though, it's cool, the only problem are the stats and the hidden ability
>>
>>38307101
Not that guy tho. Just throwing my two cents. I frankly dislike the "it's a good idea therefore it's good" when used as an excuse.
>>
>>38304826
Venusaur -> the least liked of his generation
Meganium -> the least liked of his generation
Swampert -> the least liked of his generation
The reason for GF to go progressively more human lies within the fandom. We complain about those, but ever since Gen I we prefer the bipedal starters, the more human-like the better. Emboar is probably the only exception to this rule (but just because fat and third Fire/Fighting in a row).
>>
>>38307215
I'm not saying that anyway, so i don't get your point. I still like the execution, maybe the bottom part of the wings are pretty strange to transpose in a semi-realistic way unless you make them thick.
>>
>>38307015
>i-it's ok the design is irredeemable shit because it's based on something a-and I feel smart about it!!!
Same retarded shit the brainlets
with the worst taste in the board loved to spout to defend abominations like alolan dugtrio. Congratulations.
>>
>>38307219
>Swampert -> the least liked of his generation
??? Mudkip line was the most picked starter of the three
>>
>>38305070
>Piplup is more popular than Turtwig and Chimchar
This doesn't mean that empoleon is more popular than Torterra or Son Goku. I think that Piplup is especially popular because of the anime.
>>
>>38307219
>Swampert is less liked
I'm pretty sure it's Sceptile. Both Swampert and Blaziken were fucking rad.
>>
>>38307053
It’s Torterra’s fault for looking so bad that even the Detective Pikachu movie improved its design
>>
>>38307810
>abominations like alolan dugtrio
Nigga, if you can't appreciate how audaciously fun having Hansen in Pokemon form is you don't get to make judgements on taste.
>>
>>38307879
Did you look at the rest of the post?
>>
>>38307810
I don't get that mentality, man. Just because there's some theme behind a Pokemon, it means that it's automatically good. It makes no sense. Look at Emploeon, Infernape and Torterra. All three have something thematic. Emploeon's French aristocrat and overall royal imagery comes across perfectly. Torterra being based on the Buddhist (?) belief that the world exists on the back of a giant turtle is still clever. Infernape's direct reference to Sun Wukong is great. And they're all better artistically than Decidueye, Primarina and Incineroar. Theme is great, but it needs to be backed up by design or else it falls flat.
>>
>>38307916
I don't see Infernape on that list on the side, and I'm pretty sure he is more popular than Empoleon, since he was Ash's ace on that season iirc.
Also, that election was Japan-only, so it wasn't even half of the entire pokemon fanbase.
>>
>>38306840
>muh humans in fursuit
>creative

Maybe with Blaziken it was, but now it's getting tiresome
>>
Bump
>>
>>38304826
You're only upset because it's not what you grew up with.
>>
>>38304826
you are not wrong here, and I'm not a nostalgiafag. But they really are shoehorning human themes way too hard.
>>
>>38304826
>Fuck starter evos with human ''human themes''that ruins their designs

ultra based and redpilled
>>
>>38307884
>>38307866
I based my comment on my general impressions. But after the replies I decided to check on the popularity poll that Japan carried after the 6th generation and check what places they got:
Blaziken - 45
Sceptile - 61
Swampert - 81
>>
Squirtle is objectively the best starter
>>
>it's another faggot complaining about designs as though they originated from new-gen

>>38307946
that's not a buddhist belief, that's Asian mythos. also you're claiming it's better without actually saying how
>>
>>38310454
Indeed, and also because if I wanted ugly ass humanoid creatures, I'd go for yokai watch
>>
>>38312470
And the others
Venusaur - 138
Charizard - 9
Blastoise - 75

Meganium - 222
Typhlosion - 134
Feraligatr - 182

Torterra - 154
Infernape - 70
Empoleon - 121

Serperior - 136
Emboar - 193
Samurott - 123

Chesnaught - 252
Delphox - 128
Greninja - 1

Except for Emboar, bipedals are always the favorite. When there is more than one bipedal, the fans prefer the more human.
We complain about human starters but we like them more since the start.
>>
>>38312626
I don't think many people would complain about humanoid starters if we didn't get 5 bipedal/6 anthropomorphic starters in two gens
>>
>>38304837
Thank god for that.
>>
>>38312626
>implying Greninja is more human than Delphox
