This isn't the thread for hacking your 3DS. That's >>>/vg/hbg/
This isn't the thread for injecting, either. That's >>>/vp/injection
Injecting is piss easy to do at this point. Just learn how to do it yourself you lazy fuck.
If you're looking for a specific ROM, consult the gametech wiki before asking us.

I'm playing a Pokemon Kaizo Crystal Nuzlocke run, and it's my first time ever using an emulator (VisualBoy Advance.) I saved my game, then tried loading it, and now for some reason I can't get the game to stop running at anywhere between 700-1200% speed. Is this happening because I saved the game while pressing the space bar (speed) accidentally? Or is there some other reason? More importantly, is there a fix to this problem? Thanks.

Too many big chunks of nothing. The puddle in the sand should be a puddle, not a pool. No point to have a little pool you'd have to surf through. The trainers look all avoidable except maybe the guy in the middle. Tall grass at the top is pointless since you don't need to go through it.

Tbh, there isn't much design going on here at all. Just a big open bit of sand and water with a few npcs and buildings plopped down.
>>
>>37957183
Make the beach less square and add more details into it. Also make sure you don’t have a lot of open space

>>
>>37957161
>>37957183
How do you get that Pokeball?

Can you just surf away into the ocean?

Why are the stairs single instead of double?

Why are some zones so empty?

Why are bushes lined up so autistically? Make it more random.

There is a rock on top of the grass... twice.
>>
>>37957183
>>37957161
To show off the map better, go into layers and select “show all layers”
>>
>>37957206
I don't think players should be forced to go through grass. And I couldn't find a graphic for puddles.

>>37957223
That was deliberate. It looks like grass is growing around the rock, doesn't it?
>>
>>37957239
It doesn't, it looks like a rock over a grass tile rather than a rock with tall gras enveloping the base. You're better off making a new tile. You wanna try to give your map a little more direction so the player understands where the critical path is.

>Constantly wont shut up about Creepy Black
This was written by a boomer obviously
>>
>>37962766
>There’s an undeniable nostalgia to watching people ask each other if they have a shiny Charmander, in public, for the first time since 1998.
No, it's a retarded zoomer whose first game was probably FR/LG
>>
>>37962766
This brings up a question for everyone.

Fanart is never called "bootleg art". Instead they are hired to do designs for detective Pikachu. Neither is fan fiction, fan animations, parodies etc. They are all treated with respect as fan content even if they find a way to profit off of it. Theres plenty of Pokeporn patreon accounts raking in thousands of bucks per year and nobody ever bats an eye. Many peoples livelyhoods are solely based around Pokemon content, just look at the clickbaiting Poketubers.

The only outlier is fan games. People assume the worst and focus on that it might get shut down rather than the work that went into it. Fan games are usually scorned by the public even if they are free.

For fan game developers, my question is: how does this hypocrisy make you feel?
>>
>>37962872
I've been making my game for myself since Day 1. It's a definite shame but whatever. People who enjoy this kind of stuff will enjoy it, everyone else can get fucked.
>>
>>37962872
It drives me crazy when someone goes on about how fan developers are talentless hacks who cant make their own fucking ideas but that same person praises fan art and watches Youtubers who just play video games for a living.
>>
>>37962872
Because companies are greedy for cash and they fear some neckbeard in their basement might make something better than they could. Then they might actually have to put effort in their games instead of recycling bullshit and dumbing everything down to get at a lower common denominator fanbase.
And people will defend this practice because they're fanboys and the company can do no wrong
>>
For PSDK, it says I need to ask on the discord for something called ruby host. Is that actually necessary?
>>
>>37963189
Then why dont they also shut down the fan animations and parodies? They are taking viewing time away from official Pokemon episodes and movies.
>>
>>37963231
Those are specifically protected under fair use law, fangames are not
>>
>>37962872
>>37963189
This reminds me of how people were screeching about mother 4 even though the creators said there would never be another game in the series to the point where the team had to change the name and assets.
>>
>>37963231
What >>37963244 said. Its a hypocritical law in my opinion but its still the law.
>>
>>37963222
There's a link in the PC topic for that and yes its necessary. It's used to edit the database and the additionnal informations of the maps.
>>
>>37963244
Parodies fall under fair use. Fan animations do not.
>>
>>37956833
I'm tempted by romhack for the first time because life is boring and I have way too much free time.
I'd like to play a rom that's very solo oriented, is already finished and/or has a decent late game, has the phys/special split implemented and, ideally, has an original scenario, do you guys have any recommendations?
>>
>>37963290
Protip: Blund it with the next version of PSDK
>>
>>37963320
People dont generally understand fair use.

Fair use applies to Poketubers (reporting) and parodies. They dont apply to any fan content that dont fall under those categories. So the Patreons who like to draw Charizard's cock for 2 grand a month are breaking the law.

Where is the farmland, why is it all trees? The special rock is overdone and weird.

Thanks for the feedback. I took out most of the logs, and I’ll take this one out too plus the rock. The farms are to the west, but Ill add more. Also, I’ll probably replace the daycare with a house.

>>37967188
Could probably do with more tall gras on the route itself and fewer trees. Fences should serve as good barricades. The overall layout seems solid enough

I was playing Drayano's Sacred Gold. First time playing a Rom Hack. Was having a lot of fun with it. Excellent, excellent game. Anyways, I was in the Sprout Tower and all of a sudden I couldn't see my character nor NPC's. Then, battle moves wouldn't display. Then, the top half of Desmume's screen blanked out. Well, there's your problem. The dev of desmume for some reason autistically hates pokemon, and has states that he makes desmume to be deliberately unstable for pokemon games. You can fix minor graphical errors by restarting the emulator 99% of the time.

Years ago I tried making my own hack based on the Holon region in the TCG. Basically it was an island where some strange power source was mixing up pokemons types.

My focus was going to be adjusting TMs and increasing stats of some pokemon and focusing on "shitmon" while reworking movesets and typings for quite a few. Unfortunately I'm really shit at map making and sprite work and didn't understand how to handle events.

I'm sure things have improved a lot since 2012 when I started, but how would people feel about say Pokemon Emerald, but encounters, TMs, Pokemon, etc are changed?
>>
>>37982948
Are you me? I was setting up something very similar with Delta species, common pokemon, and using emerald as a base. Also in a similar case of not knowing how to handle events.
>>
>>37981852
Lots of games do that on a real SGB. But I'm not sure emulators can handle it, since most don't actually emulate the SNES part, they only fake it enough to get an initial border.
>>
Just had an idea. How would people feel about a light mango mod with a few things mixed around? Basically "Rainbow Giovanni" world. Would be a decent field test for my holon concept maybe.

I've never done anything like this, so are there any good tutorials to recommend?
Any models I can download that at least let me access gen 4 Pokemon, abilities and moves? Ideally all gens as long as the sprites have a consistent style.
Any for quality of life such as reusable tms, fairy type, phys/spec split, etc.
Any way to change move effects, names, etc?
>>
>>37983649
Possible core theme of team rocket monopolizing all the "good" Pokemon so only "shitmons" are left (with updated states/ movepools) and/or an experiment went awry and scrambled up some Pokemon types and such.

Basic, but I think that could be ok for a first real try at this?

Failing that I guess I could try to fix gen 2s problems, but I'm not sure if any mod tools are able to work with such old things. Also it's probably been done already.

Pokémon Crystal Clear is a modern-day masterpiece, a revelation. Stood next to it, the celebrated pillars of this community seem diminutive. Gaia, Insurgence, Reborn, Uranium, Prism. All of them, mere specks to the supernova that burns so brightly. Innovative, creative, nostalgic, hilarious, enjoyable. Just some of the words that can attempt to describe its majesty. Perfection.

it's fucking stupid, because pay-to-win pokemon games (quest excluded) are gay.

Yeah it's fun, but there's no way for your team to overcome shitty IVs. Movepools are a hassle to construct. Evolution is just specialization, and not an across-the-board improvement. Kinda stupid IMO to make everything a shittier Eevee, but what can you do? If you DON'T want to pay for good IV mons, then you're pretty much stuck with a mono-flying team plus whatever your starter specialized into.

Unfortunately, that's not the case because PSDK doesn't use the RGSS. Since it's fully open-source, we can still build everything for Android. (Or add a lot of script degrading the performances to make it compatible with Neko RPGXP Player).

Yep, basically you can take the "update.rb" script inside Plugins, change the url of download (currently pointing to Pokémon Workshop) & use Game_Version instead of PSDK_Version. (You have to update the Game_Version constant each time you make an update).

When it comes to the pokémon games? HAHAHAHAHA.... No.
The 3DS games can be played online thanks to Citra, but anything older is way tougher.
GB and GBC? No.
GBA? VBA Link and Hamachi.
NDS? You'll need a pretty old version of Desmume and WinPCap, not to mention you also need to access an unofficial WFC implementation like AltWFC.
Thankfully, the Pokémon Games have a dedicated service called "Pokémon Classic Network" made by fans, for fans.
http://pkmnclassic.net/

Then there's Battle Revolution on Dolphin which probably works too through the Wiimmfi service, but

I have looked about that, it seems to be a pretty simple solution but there's a huge matter :
The map linking system. If you use a "disc" like system there's no way the MapLinker know the map 001 from disc 2 is linked to the map 002 from disc 1 it'll load the map 002 from disc 2.

2 .rxproj folder can be a solution but we need to edit Ruby Host (the scripts are in ruby so it's not that hard) to detect the maps from Project 1 & 2.

With Tiled the problem doesn't exist but you have to edit the events and actually the only way to do that is to use RPG Maker XP so you won't see the map that have an id > 999.

I think we should make a script that allow to swap the maps from 0~999 with the map from 1000~1999. For the map linking we can hard-code the maplinks since it's stored in a global variable. It's just a feature we need to take time on.

If you still want to use the Disc System, here's the load Map script you'll have to add (I adapated it for you).
Come back to me if you have issue with the game release (I'm on discord).

module Yuki
module MapLinker
# Load the data of a map (with some optimizations)
# @param map_id [Integer] the id of the Map
# @return [RPG::Map]
def load_map_data(map_id)
return DefaultMap if map_id == 0
return @last_map if map_id == @last_map_id
if (link_data = @link_data) # Une des map linké
return @north_data if map_id == link_data[0]
return @east_data if map_id == link_data[2]
return @sud_data if map_id == link_data[4]
return @west_data if map_id == link_data[6]
end
return load_data(format('Data/%sMap%03d.rxdata', $game_system.disc, map_id))
rescue StandardError
return RPG::Map.new(20, 15)
end
end

The romhack is mostly for personal use, I'm programming and planning out the Pokemon, but it's mostly just to have the assets and plans, and build up my skill working with the Crystal Disassembly. Until people break the Move and Pokemon limit it's not something big to look forward to. That said, those are just the betamons that are completely new, I'm also testing out a good chunk of the babies and evos to bring back (some designs are also retooled as different forms, like Porygon 2, Girafarig, and Murkrow).

One of the ones that I hadn't planned on adding until someone here made a sprite for it was the Lickitung evolution, Tungtyde. It's a Normal/Water with the ability Slobber, which makes every contact move it uses lower the opponent's Speed by 1 stage.

>>38010906
I'm just a big fan of Pokemon names that work as clever puns, Wolfman and Warwolf just seemed unfitting to me.

>>38011105
I renamed a few of the types because they bugged my autism, it's effectively the same type though I have made some changes to the type chart to balance it a bit (Currently Water is weak to Poison, Ice resists Water and Flying, and Fairy no longer resists Bug. Still experimenting with Ice and Fairy's type match ups though).

Because those are free advertising for the official games. If they get you interested in Pokémon then the only “legitimate” way to fulfill that interest is with Nintendo’s games - they win when it comes to fan parodies, music, cartoons, etc. They lose whenever something comes out that could compete with their money maker. If someone started to make a Pokémon anime that was genuinely a quality anime, it would be shit down, because that has potential as a competitor. A parody video doesn’t

also, I tried the scripts but I am too much of a brainlet to make them work together, so I'll just wait until PSDK has an official way to do it... thanks for taking note of the issue

You can safely add Oak in Hoenn giving you a Pikachu or an Eevee for free in one of the first areas of the game to that list desu.

It's 2020. There's no reason to cram 20 maps together into 1 because some proprietary developer set up an artificial limit at '999' for no reason whatsoever other than selling you the version with a '1999' limit at a higher price (because memory sure as hell is not an issue)
>>
>>38017114
So..? Just because there are no limits doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't optimize your project.
That's basically the exact reason why Essentials has performance issues, or why there's many fangames out eating 1 fucking GB of data for seemingly no reason, and it sucks balls.
What a disgusting community.
>>
>>38017220
Don't talk about things you don't understand, retard.

Essentials has issues even if your project has 1 nearly-empty map. The problem is that it uses deprecated libraries.

Alchemist has 1 GB of data because 830 MB are audio files. All the 600+ maps together are only 15 MB. The rest is graphic files (360 MB)

Cramming 20 maps into 1 is not optimizing. It's the absolute opposite. You're loading 20 maps and only using 1. Having each place in a separate map is the most optimal.

The only disgusting thing in the community are the morons like you that talk out of their ass without understanding absolutely anything.
>>
Why the fuck would a Pokemon game need 1000 maps in the first place?

Big games like Prism only use about 500 maps and even with that some people thought it was still too massive.

>Alchemist has 1 GB of data because 830 MB are audio files.

>Don't talk about things you don't understand, retard.
Right back at you, dumbass.

>Essentials has issues even if your project has 1 nearly-empty map. The problem is that it uses deprecated libraries.
That's engine-wise and specifically in the performance department. It's also absolutely nothing new.
It's also an issue born out of Maruno's laziness and unwillingness to do something about it.
If you want to add laziness to the list of problems that Essentials has, so be it.

>>The lack of optimization and careless bloating on the fangame makers' side is one of the issues Essentials has
>Alchemist has 1 GB of data because 830 MB are audio files.
Thanks for proving my point, you disgusting mouthbreather.

>Cramming 20 maps into 1 is not optimizing. It's the absolute opposite. You're loading 20 maps and only using 1. Having each place in a separate map is the most optimal.
And your point is? I'm talking about bloating, that is, the retarded desire of add a fuckton of content instead of doing something more compact and of higher quality.
If you need 999 maps to make a pokémon fangame, you're probably doing something very, very, VERY wrong.
(Then again, I do understand that Essentials games have to make many small individual maps because of its previously mentioned performance issues. Other engines don't have this issue, and neither does ROM Hacking.)

>The only disgusting thing in the community are the morons like you that talk out of their ass without understanding absolutely anything.
The irony.
Now kill your fucking self, pathetic shill.

As a shit-for-brains consumer and not developer of these romhacks- why do people like to use Essentials despite the issues people have playing Essential-made games?
Is it relatively easier to develop a fangame using Essentials as opposed to romhacking?
>>
>>38018284
Essentials is idiot-proof for most applications, and doesn't need to conform to hardware/emulator limitations.
>>
>>38018284
>>38018289
Gladly, SDK is no different in that regard and it doesn't have the issues that Essentials does either.
Once the batlte engine is done, there will be 0 reason to use Essentials anymore.

I need Pokémon - Crystal Version (UE) (V1.0) [C][!].gbc
(md5: 9f2922b235a5eeb78d65594e82ef5dde)
to play Polished Crystal without the game crashing but i can´t find it anywhere.
It seems that everyone at GitHub has used this as the original ROM, but leaves no references where to download it. Anyone here got a clue?
>>
>>38018935
I´m on an android btw so .rtc doesnt work out

>It seems that everyone at GitHub has used this as the original ROM
No, everyone at Github compiled the Polished Crystal ROM by themselves directly because they're not tech iliterates.
https://github.com/Rangi42/polishedcrystal/blob/master/INSTALL.md

Check the Emugen Wiki btw.

what a shame
>>
>>38019645
Why? I'm still very new here, what's the problem with it?
>>
>>38019715
Essentials is easier to develop games with, but its awful to play as a consumer. Generally speaking, Essentials devs use it to lighten the burden on themselves but not their audience.

How shitty are these

>Mr. Mime Sr.
>evolves from Mr. Mime
>Ability: Psychic Surge
>Signature Move: Invisible Wall - Aurora Veil, but requires psychic terrain instead of hail

>Shoopum
>evolves from Jynx
>Ability: beam warrior - beam attacks do 1.5x damage

>Snipehunt
>evolves from Farfetch'ed while holding leek
>Ability: Marksman - ball/bullet moves do 1.5x damage

>Bellbottoms
>evolves from Bellsprout while knowing Petal dance
>ability: dancer

the last two were stolen from spaceworld
>>
>>38020378
Rework the names. Mr. Mime Sr works because Mime Jr exists. But the others don't sound like "pokemon" names.
>>
>>38020390

What about Snipe'unt and Belbottom. im trying to follow their earlier forms naming convention
>>
>>38020378
i mean "Riduck'lus" fits with Farfetch'd, kinda. And any alternate to Victreebel needs to evolve from Weepinbell. Maybe "Bellskander"?
>>
>>38020378
>>Snipehunt
>>evolves from Farfetch'ed while holding leek
>>Ability: Marksman - ball/bullet moves do 1.5x damage
>Long ranged stuff for a close ranged pokémon
Y tho
