AM anon here. >>37167950alright, was one of the anons that replied. i forgot that i had this open. but i decided to test the AM's, specifically the Compound Eyes one and it works fine, pic related. i have yet to get all of them but for now, i think the AM's for early game are well balanced. getting rid of Swarm for a way more better ability on Beautifly is always welcome. i'll play more and test the other AM's.
>>37168070when you wanted to test something in binary hacking that happened in a later map, you create a warp in the starter town to that map. with porymap, you can do the same in the disassembly.
any recommendations of hacks which use the pokemon follow from hgss but also have pokemon from gen 5?
>>37168609glad to hear it.btw, I kind of added a whopper of an AM in midgame, but I tried to limit it to underpowered mons. hopefully it won't be too much of a problem

I'm the special Ditto guy again. Would you feel better if there was only one transformation you could use per type, but there was some sort of progression in each of them? >>37165088Where's the other version of this? I know it's shit post, but IMO there's bad apples on both sides as well as good eggs neither is completely good or bad.

>>37171175>>37172020Nah, unlike the closed minded retard above says (I bet it's the Gen. 1/2 has stuttering guy, lmao), the fact that there's potentially good games being held back behind a poorly coded engine frustrates me. I want to play said games, but I can't when they run like shit, because experiencing a game at low framerate, with stuttering and with screen tearing is just not fun at all.The games made with Essentials should be running perfectly smoothly like the official ones (pre-3DS) do, or those made with Pokémon SDK.I don't have a single problem playing ROM Hacks, because I like the official games too.
Which disassembly has the most documentation currently for making shit?
>>37172768>low framerateIt's 40 fps instead of 60 fps on my 2010 PC. Aren't 3ds games like 30 fps?
>>37172808RPG Maker XP is capped at 40 unless you do some code fuckery
>>37172680Looking good anon, keeps the gen 2 vibe looking like PS2
>>37172826there's a really easy framerate fix you can do by changing the refresh rate and fps cap, which doesn't take much effort desu (I'd know, since I fucking suck at coding), or you can implement another launcher that eliminates a large majority of the lag.I've tested it, works pretty well. Infernal Red has it too.
>>37172984but that doesnt actually stop the games running at like 3fps anyway since that's to do with shoddy programming more than RMXP's stupid self imposed limit
>>37172993uh, how necessarily? Because I'm not seeing your connect in logic here.
>>37173015Most essentials games run like ass regardless of changing the refresh rate or FPS cap which is normally due to shitty programming and bloated files/maps.
>>37173021ah, I see what you mean there. That does suck, but the alternate launcher seems to smooth that out from what I've seen. I'll know for sure after testing it more. But hey, SDK is getting it's documentation translated so maybe a switch to that is coming soon.
>>37173021Works on my machine.
>>37173035Essentials is a hit or miss for me on mine. It runs at 1.8 ghz and generally fuckin sucks, but Infernal Red ran practically as good as a hack with the alt launcher, so I imagine it'd work well in general.TL;DR Essentials is picky as fuck but I'll still use it cause I feel like it
essentials games run fine if you don't encrypt them.
>>37172680The art you based Kris off of looks strange. The eyes look way too far down on her face.Try using her Stadium 2 art instead, like you did with Silver.
>>37172808>It's 40 fpsHmmmm...
>>37173654The problem with Essentials games is that nobody plays them for more than five minutes, so the memory leaks that cause slowdowns like this aren't seen, reported, or acknowledged. And when they're mentioned, nobody takes them seriously because "the first two minutes ran just fine for me".
>>37173677PR is literally the only essentials game that has memory leak issues.
>>37173712So what are the others' excuses?
>>37173724encryption, maps that are too large, map connections, too many events.
>>37173724>>37173731And Essentials being simply poorly coded OR not using a PC's hardware correctly.Pokemon SDK is flawless, the only reason why it's not being used is the lack of English documentation.
>>37168780so i encountered a two bugs, the shop for verdanturf town is buggy when trying to select an AM or TM and when i tried putting the Smeltry AM on Skarmory, it magically went on to Beautifly instead. i even tested again with Intimidate this time on Combusken and Intimidate ended up going onto Skarmory instead. pic related
>editing pokemon>over a hundred of themthen>editing maps>almost a hundred of themWould it be simpler to just delete everything and start from scratch? My scripting skills are garbage. I'm used to doing dialogue trees and Paradox events, using actual scripting tools is frustrating.
>>37173958Thanks for the info. he first one should be fixed soon, since starting next update AMs and TMs will no longer be purchasable at any stores except the game corner and the mall.As for the second one, that's an interesting issue. Did you test that with two AM uses in sequence?
>>37173913>OR not using a PC's hardware correctly. That's mainly it. RPG Maker is old as shit. It came out in 205 so it's not made to run on multi-core computers. To be honest, it's pretty amazing that it can run at all on modern OS.
>>37174013no, this is what happened: i thought Smeltery wasn't working until i saw it on Beautifly and then i decided to Box Skarmory and then unbox it and tried putting Intimidate on Combusken and ended up with Skarmory with Intimidate instead. I decided to reset the game and test the AM for Hustle on Spinda and it instead appears on Beautifly. pic related shows that i clearly selected Spinda but it ends up displaying that it will replace Beautifly's ability instead.
>>37174085Thanks anon. I found the issue. I'll put up a version soon. I just want to add something to the weather institute
>>37174014>>37173021>>37172993So, in principle, how hard would it be to make a better essentials version, fixing the code, maybe porting to a newer rpg maker version? Would that even make sense?

Question, I'm using pokecrystal and I'm having a problem adding(or activating would be better?) "coord" events to Blackthorn City, when I step on the added event nothing happens. I already added other of this type of event to Azalea & Mahogany and those worked without a problem, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with this one.
Still no trading/multiplayer via ROMs right?
>>37174972I dunno about playing multiplayer with some guy around the world but I know for a fact you can play and trade locally on VBA-M.
>>37165067>>37165088>Calling quality when lacking attack animations and over 10 fps gameplay
>>37175181Correct. There's no reason why you wouldn't be able to treat trading/battling the same on a hack as you would on a standard ROM. Only if the creator messed with flags or maps that correspond to the trading/battle maps and those events.
>>37175189The human eye can't see past 2fps. Ergo, Essentials is objectively the best.
>>37174818Supposedly, the map system of the newer versions of RPG Maker sucks.Other than that, there's Pokémon SDK and even though it is a starter kit for RPG Maker XP just like Essentials, it actually does run perfectly. We need more people to use it, post experiences, guides and such. Raise some interest in making others use it.
>>37173650yeah, Kris didnt sit right with me either. I'll give that one a go, thanks man

>>37178077“Alien” as a type just seems too much of a stretch to me (just do whatever anyway)How many pokemon as canon aliens?Compared to it, Ancient feels more legit, there’s quite the good number of ancient pokemon in game that you’d come to referer as ancient (fossils and some legendary pokemon)Wouldn’t add Dialga though, as the Pokemon that supposedly created Time itself it shouldn’t be ancient as opposed to be kind of “timeless”

>>37178199mew is usually depicted floating in space and aren't cresselia and darkrai from the moon?as for the UBs, even ignoring the fact that alien is really supposed to be a weird name for space, extradimensional creatures are often referred to as aliens since they come from a different world, and the word alien is often used to refer to beings as eldritch, an adjective the UBs were intentionally meant to have applied to them

>>37184318Alright, that seems reasonable.I'll see what I can add. I'm thinking trade evolutions will be replaced with contest-stat evolutions like milotic, but I'll drop the minimum stat needed. Either that or friendship, but contest stat seems more interesting.

>>37190924hey anon, I'm working on these bugs and I can't seem to replicate the hyper potion issue. Can you provide some more information?
Anyone know an easy way to test contests?
>>37192308you could probably keep the Ancient type if you make it focus less on time (I know that was kinda the point, but still). You could use time as a justification for some interesting status-inflicting moves (or even weird rng shit if you wanna go that route), but it might help if you broaden the focus of it beyond time.Like, you have Ancient Power in your original movelist, yeah? Its description mentions some anomalous "prehistoric power" that you could expand on with the type. Maybe you can have moves that focus on unlocking some hidden ancient energy inside of the pokemon.Alternatively, you could go with more literal interpretations of "ancient," like a poison-inflicting move based on fossilized viruses or something.I think it's an interesting idea, and you could probably do some interesting stuff with it.
>>37190924bad news anon. I've found the root of the contest bug. It's actually a much bigger issue that I'm surprised hasn't caused more problems.I can fix it, but it's going to corrupt your save file, though to be honest, your save file is pretty much already corrupted
What are your top 3 romhacks and why?
Are there any complete fakemon Romhacks out there besides Vega and Clover that have fakemon with original cries?
>>37194085Prism because it's fucking amazing and it's not even complete yet. Great level curve, incomplete but promising skill level system, varied Pokédex with pokes from 4 regions with the single Kalos poke making it technically 5. OC legends are a mixed bag, but that's also a part of its charm.Blazed Glazed because it's decently challenging, loyal to the original and polished. The fixed movesets of various pokes is a nice QoL fix.Last but not least, Gaia because it honestly beats every official game IMO.
Alright I got an interesting question: Have any GBA Romhacks ever managed to incorporate following Pokemon in them?
>>37165067tbqh the main reason I ever bother with romhacks is simply because I like the games but want trainers to have more difficult teams that force me to actually use strategies other than "spam SE/STAB attacks from 6 sweepers" while not having to encounter a dozen Wingulls every time I take a step. Only real problem I ever have is, yes, the towns still being shitty just like the vanilla games. But hey, even GF themselves can't get this right with their remakes. Like ORAS not bothering to expand on any of its towns, so we go from XY and it's impressive-looking towns and cities to... ORAS towns of 4 builds, looking exactly the same as the originals.

>>37196046You have no idea what youre talking about. Emulators emulate to the best of their ability but none of them are 100% exact. Nintendos virtual console emulators arent even 100% accurate.
>>37196591>but none of them are 100% exactNot that anon, but 100% accuracy basically means going down to the chip level. It's true that this is virtually non-existent in the emulation scene, due in large part to performance constraints, but it's also largely unnecessary on a practical level. Once you get down to cycle accuracy, compatibility concerns are mostly a non-issue except for extreme fringe cases.>virtual console emulators arent even 100% accurate.Virtual Console, depending on the actual platform in question, isn't highly accurate because VC emulation doesn't aim to make entire game libraries playable; so it can afford to and deliberately takes shortcuts, since it only has to target specific games.
