I'm not sure about that, tried playing a little bit with how many handgun shots to the head would make a decapitation. Sometimes it's 5, but i've noticed it sometimes takes up to a clip or more. Not sure if it being downed and you continue shooting the head would change the amount of shots, but it feels really hard. Even knife hits are weird.

Too bad they don't have a similar mechanic like REmake 1 with lighting them up.

Have you ever played ANY other Resident Evil ever? I mean ANY of them. Even as far back as PS1. All zombies and enemies were bullet sponges and critically exploding headshots were completely random. All of the newer Resident Evils were like this AND you claim 7 "saved the series" but ALL of the enemies in that game were bullet sponges as well. The only time this changes is when you using a shotgun (still no guaranteed but much more likely to get a critical one hit kill) and magnum shots.

It's as if you're complaining that a fighting game requires you to punch the opponent to win. Faggot.

I don't think it matters which train of thought they go with between glass cannons or tankier zombies; it matters how they use that in conjunction with enemy placement and ammo; RE7 molds were pretty quick to kill with the single shot shotgun, often one shot with headshots, and with the sections where enemy placement was sneakier it worked well, but towards the end where it was just a bunch of molded after another it became a shooting gallery.

Similarly with tanky zombies like in RE2make, having them spaced out means that avoiding them becomes a regular viable option to conserve ammo for when you can't walk around, or killing zombies in areas you may retread often; but if they rely on using hordes of them frequently and continue to douse you in ammo, it'll just be fucking obnoxious rather than threatening.

Is there some magic trick to getting the game to not stutter on PC? I have a decent rig, I don't think that's the problem.

I beat the demo already despite that. I could spend the last 7 minutes fucking around with settings but I'd rather know if there's a universal problem. Especially since it might affect DMC5 as well.

I definitely felt like enemies took way too many headshots to kill, but at least the game gives you mostly enough ammo. I straight up dropped The Evil Within 2 because I got fed up with the huge amounts of constant enemies and the game expecting you to fight when it never gives you anything to actually use. I hope the game proceeds being very generous if the tanky sponge zombies are here to stay.

Nah, I shot him the same and nothing. It's just random. You'll sometimes get a lucky crit and pop a guy in one shot, others you'll need 7 on that same zombie in another run. It's probably meant to encourage you to never get complacent and assume that just because you shot a zombie x number of times, they have to be dead and the zombies do a good job of making you think they are dead and will stay on the ground for a good few seconds. Do you shoot them to get them to raise up, but potentially waste a bullet? Or will you just try to walk past them? Best thing to do so far is to kill Zombies in rooms which you know have puzzles and let the others live, just shooting legs or cutting arms with knives to cripple them if you ever need to go back through that room.

Though I doubt that I will be buying the game. I'm mostly just happy to see RE return to this style of game. I loved 4, but I know it wasn't loved, I just couldn't get into the older games, even REmake. You guys have a great time.

Alright, so I've run through the demo a couple of times and I've come up with a theory regarding headshots. This could be completely wrong, but it comes up valid in my time.
I think that cranial explosions are completely random while an enemy is shambling towards you, HOWEVER when a zombie is incapacitated on the ground after being shot enough times it seems when you shoot their head while they are down it is far more likely to blow. It's still not 100%, which is strange, but I imagine that as you upgrade your weapons further that crit chance will continue to increase. If anyone wants to test this theory and tell me if I'm crazy that'd be great

If you lower some settings to high instead of max and use SSAO or HDAO it's actually pretty easy to run the game at 4k60.
My R9 Fury is maybe half as powerful as a 1080 Ti and I can maintain 50-60 FPS at 4k pretty reliably.

As for the bullet sponge complaint, i can see both sides. I think it's perfectly reasonable that 4-5 direct head shots should down a zombie and create an opening to move on. but at the same time, you shouldn't be able to take on every enemy you come across.

I do like the atmosphere and ridiculous levels of gore and the animations are a thing of beauty. Honestly, it's a mixed bag with me, the demo left me feeling lukewarm and i can't really explain why.

In fairness, I can understand why they went the way they did.

Resident Evil: Chris and Jill were in over their heads and had no idea what to expect. They were overwhelmed and barely made it out alive.
Resident Evil 2: Leon and Claire were in over their heads and had no idea what to expect. They were overwhelmed and barely made it out alive. The player, however, is better prepared. Throw in the T-00 and Birkin to try and fuck with them a bit.
Resident Evil 3: Jill, having experienced this already, knows exact what to expect and is not only better equipped, but better prepared mentally. Manages just fine for while. The player also knows what to expect, and goes into the game knowing that they'll be fighting a big scary tyrant monster, but only has experience with Mr. X. Naturally progression for both the character and the player controlling her dictates something new needs to happen that builds on previously established systems. Nemesis makes sense in that context, as does more easily dispatched zombies.
The easily dispatched zombies also served as a way to let the player feel empowered one minute, only to rip it away at a moment's notice.

RE3 was too ambitious for it's own good at the time. Still, had fun with it. But I understand why others might not like a direction shift like that.

Its a head, its pretty sizeable. Its a rough balance because then you just walk into every room and OHK everything, so they would have to reduce pistol ammo by an insane amount to keep it in survival horror fashion. Which really doesn't solve anything, when you get cornered you still just OHK them with a pistol even if you run past everything and they bunch up on you.
