Post your displays and display furniture here

Found this on wayfair the other day. What do I think of it?

I already have a couple of detolfs and I feel limited by how wide they are. These arent as deep as a detolf but much wider and seem pretty cool

My camera sucks, but I'm happy with my little display. I painted the Simon Belmont myself over a CV2 color scheme.
>>
>>7703141
Detolfs are the shelf equivalent to Funko Pops and anyone who has them extremely close to a wall isn't even using it right.
>>
>>7703673
You really need to get laid son.
>>
I need some good advice on displays cases.

I was never sure how fast my collection would grow when I started and I often rotated figures out anyway, so I started with just 40cm3 acrylic boxes at about £40 a pop.

Now I have 8, and I'm thinking detolfs would be more economical as I can get a couple for £70 each.

Any other suggestions for affordable, sturdy, good looking cases?
>>
>>7703141
>>7703673
Detolfs and Billys+Morliden glass doors are the only affordable option that fit a fair amount of figures and look nice, especially if you add lighting. The other option is spending several hundred to a couple thousand on heavy trophy display cases, which are bigger. If you have that money then that's great, but you'll need to deal with the more complicated delivery and assembly, not to mention if you want to move those cases are a bitch to transport. Or if you're using some granny wooden cabinet for figures then you're dumb.

Curio cabinets tend to be smaller than Detolfs for 2-3x the price. Maybe they'll be a tad wider but the shelves are shorter, so just make use of risers in your Detolfs. Otherwise go for Billy+Morliden for more width, or put the money down for a trophy case.
>>
>>7703748
If i could get these but with a detolf esque one solid glass door rather than a split down the middle itd be pimp.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I also like viewing my figures from all angles where possible, so a glass back/sides would be nice. My acrylic boxes, although convenient and portable (you just lift them and walk), aren't sustainable anymore.

Long term what i'd really just like is to install a couple of large vivariums in my room. One with a forest theme, the other an urban them and just have all my figures displayed in it with stands and wires.
>>
>>7703779
where do you get your acrylic boxes? i googled and found some made to order sites but they wanted to charge an absurd amount of money for 2ft x 1.5ft x 3ft
>>
>>7703808
I'm from UK, so use https://displaypro.co.uk/. Not sure if you live state-side.
>>
>>7703673
Does the lack of access to an Ikea really bother you that much?
>>
>>7703802
That’s actually an awesome idea.
>>
>>7703829
Not that guy but I had detolfs for years, they were “eh” better than nothing.
Now I got two custom cabinets. Expensive but on a completely different level.
>>
>>7703850
I think only the most insane person would claim the detolf to be the best option for a displaying figures.

It definitely ranks lower than a glass door billy or a custom made case, but a big step up over a cheap MDF bookcase or some old person curio cabinet.

They aren't the best, but it's weird to see someone get so worked up over such a minor thing as a detolf.
>>
>>7703673
>6' of glass sitting unsecured in the middle of the room while my dogs chase each other
no thanks anon

>>7703802
Wouldn't they get covered in moss or algae though? A big vivarium is awesome decor though. My dream would be to have a big communal tank of Socotra blue baboon tarantulas, but I'm not willing to fuck with that kind of venom.

>>7703779
>>7703808
It seems like it would be cheapest to make your own, with a plexiglass cutter and some acrylic solvent.
>>
Detolfs are shit. I've been using them for years and I cannot stand them. Only three shelves, meaning you have to find a way to create more, gaps that let in air / dust, and shitty particle board.

Soon I plan on making my own curio cabinets, going to essentially make them using the Detolf glass I have from all my display cases, and a router table / specialized bits to create the joinery / inserts for the glass on standard 3/4" hardwood, probably oak. I'm aiming to make it so that it completely seals to prevent all dust from collecting, as well as plenty of space to mount and hide my lighting / wires, using glass on all four sides as well as getting glass shelves cut. Going to make them essentially double detolfs with a set of drawers at the bottom for storage.

Yes and dust will get in any gap. Detolfs have gaps too. But it's a slower intake so you'll need to dust way less often than open shelves.

it depends on the home depot.

My local one stopped doing acrylic/plastic sheets, but still did wood.

Honestly, drilling is the easiest part, because everyone should have a drill. saws? shit's tough, especially since they take up a lot of space.

>>

Yea, but it normally happens well into the thread after people have started actually posting displays and the trolls roll in and start shitting on people's posing, taste in figures, and clusterfucks. The detolf disgust is usually a last resort to derail the thread.

Hence, why I said trolls are getting straight to the point and immediately starting the detolf hate.
>>
>>7706063
This looks really good and should be extremely easy to do. I may do something like this for a weekend project.

Probably won't even cost more than 10-15 bucks.
>>
>>7706223
Cool setup. I have that exact same NECA display stand that sticks to glass. Be careful, because after about a month or two, it just lost its suction and the figure I had attached to it (a model kit Kid Buu) fell and knocked down everything in my display.

Happened 3 separate times before I just gave up with it. And yes, I made sure my detolf surfaces were clean before I stuck in on the glass.
>>
I like the idea of detolfs but even if I could get them, the photos I see make them look tall and narrow, and my displays are more "bookcase" wide.
>>
>>7707099
I use both detolfs and bestas in my display. Both work really well for what I need, but I can definitely see your point about the detolfs being narrow (though you'd be surprised what they can fit comfortably).

The bestas are pretty big and deep (insert "that's what she said"). You can check those out at Ikea. They're really not too expensive either. I personally got the optional glass doors and shelves for mine because I have kids, and it's just easier to have my figures behind glass so that they don't get too tempted to just reach in and grab the things they see. Though, honestly, they're really good about leaving my stuff alone (they're 3 and 5 respectively.

Yeah, I've had these stands for years now, never fails to lose suction eventually. Bad engineering on their part, the cups are too close together to each other when pressed against a surface. I fixed this by cutting off one of the cups and using a way stronger cup that's slightly smaller. I haven't had my Green Goblin using this modified stand stay up for over six months now.

Pic related but I replaced Pizza Spidey with Mafex Spidey.

I have one. Just the single column one. Its really nice and wide it definitely fits more than a detolf. Only 3 shelves however 2x glass and the metal bottom. I like how its raised though and your last shelf is not floor level. I have mine in my bedroom as it matches my bedroom furniture more than a detolf. Mine currently houses a couple 1/6 figs on one shelf, my shf dbzs on another, and a still life of non toy stuff like my vintage camera gear with some geodes, animal bones, other natural curiosities.

What would you anons recommend for lighting?
I'm considering either ledberg lighting strips from Ikea or standard LED push lights like pic related.
How easy is it to install ledbergs?
And also, is there any chance the lights may damage the figures?
>>
>>7716826
LEDs are generally thought to be non-damaging. I would highly recommend getting some sort of plug-in lighting solution, those push lights are going to get tiring real fast and who wants to consciously think about lighting up their display every day? Nah, man. Just have it so you can flip a switch and the cabinet lights go on.
>>
>>7716833
Yeah you're right, the batteries would be a huge pain in the add on the push light, the only reason I considered them is ease of installation since I plan on getting a billy with glass doors and a wired setup would require me to drill holes for the wires to get out (I think, I've never set up something like this before).
>>
>>7715944
If it has framed double doors like in >>7703748, the gap looks too narrow for brush strips. You might need to use foam tapes.
>>
>>7716833
What kind of lights would be damaging to figures besides the sun?
>>
>>7716943
Fluorescent bulbs emit UV light just like the sun. They're not nearly as damaging of course, but over time you may see a difference in your toys' paintjob.
>>
>>7716943
Shitty old incandescent bulbs are damaging just for the heat they produce
>>
>>7716878
Yeah I'll be using foam, I'm not sure what the size of the gap is though but I imagine it shouldn't be too big.

Does anyone have any recommendations for risers that fit detolfs?

Updated my bookshelf quite a bit with all the new Legends that have come out. A bunch of the new Avengers and X-Men figures. I dug out my Defenders 4 pack and got a new spot for my F4 as well. I am dying for a classic Dr. Strange. I know Hasbro is saving him for the inevitable Dr. Strange 2 wave though.

My second shelving unit. Updated my DBZ stuff, I'm still not happy with it though since there's just so much. Slowly building up my new Lightning Collection MMPR team to replace the Legacy team with. Got a bunch of new TFs from Siege, that shit line really hooked me.

My fucking mess of a toy table. I REALLY need to clean up and organize these guys. Need to make more space for DBZ and TF stuff. I need a whole new shelving unit I think. Mainly for my MCU Legends that are mostly stored in plastic totes at the moment. Once I get some new shelves I'll setup a proper MCU display.

Finally my Mezco and gunpla shelves in my bedroom. Got a few new Mezcos since I last updated. Sovereign Knight Batman and Cowboy Logan specifically. Logan was surprisingly good.
