>>7696186I like this photo a lot and I don't even know the character.
>>7696188Thanks.that's You Watanabe from Love Live Sunshine.
I've posted these before I believe but fuck it, why not. Nothing overly impressive but I'm quite proud of the posing.(1/2)
>>7696200think you posted them in the Kaiju thread, but I don't frequent the photo treads enough to have seen you post then in here.Pretty good posing, but photography wise .. eh.
>>7696209Yeah I'm pretty terrible at photography, just felt like sharing them really.
>>7696241shame to see such good posing go to waste tho.Should think about setting up a dio and maybe try a different angle. Shoot 'em from the bottom.
>>7696330That's a good idea, once I've sorted this house move I might actually do a proper photo setup for them.
>>7696175>>7696177You literally put your toy on the street and get in a a position low enough for that angle. Thats hilarious.
>>7696175This is nice. I like the colors, angle and everything. Even thought the light is really hard there it works. Nice one, anon.
>>7696344Hope to see it.>>7696566Glad you got a laugh out of it. It was during the Fate Go event so it wasn't tooo odd. Plus the street was closed so it was safe.I did get heckled for it though.>>7696575Thanks. The light bothers me too. I did the shot quickly cuz the longer I took the fucken weirder I felt about it. So I couldn't get the settings quite right on my camera when shooting. Tried to balance it out as best I could in editing. It was a bright day. There are other things that bother me about it, but overall I'm satisfied with it.

Instagram shadow banned me today for fucking no reason. Until they unban me this place is all I have left bros.

>>7696596>I did get heckled for it though.Street was closed but you got heckled for it? Where was this? Don't let the assholes get to you for this.
>>7700756It’s happening to me too. I know insta changed it’s algorithm some months back and it fucked everyone over, but starting August I’ve seen a big gap in likes. I was wondering if it was another algorithm change or my pics just started sucking.
>>7700816This looks cool, I like it
>>7700816Glad to see Zooky rocking a feather boa.
>>7700756>>7701028I post with a 1000toys hashtag which doesn't get much traffic. It allows me to check my posts publically. My last three posts haven't shown up and its been 3 days. I miss Flickr.
>>7701218Yeah. Instagram's fucked. The only hashtag I follow is toyphotography and it only shows me one post every couple days, and always from the same two or three users(who dont even do anything interesting, just post random displays from toy shows or fucking drawings...) I'm really thankful for the 4 to six likes I get, which is still shit, but it's at least something and I crave validation.
>>7701228Oh well, guess I'll just start a new account or something. RIP 78 followers.
>>7699561>>7699582This is so fuking cool. Do you have toy instagram or something?
>>7700820That's bullshit. I was out with my Question on Saturday night. Downtown, clubs just emptying and weirdly not enough traffic for the shots I wanted. - but no problems. I love this guy but wish there was a Montoya ver. (pic not quite related)
>>7699127hot damn where's that campfire from?my gobbo is on his way too
>>7700820The street was closed to traffic but there were still people around.I'm always taking toy photos in public. It's really rare for people to say anything to me let a lone make a negative comment. At any rate, it doesn't really bother me too much, but thanks for the words.>>7700632>>7700633>>7701221Cleaver use of the stand base there and nice dio there.>>7700816Pretty dope.
>>7701435nice gritty photo. I'm curious to see the photos from that night.>>7701594These were taken during St Patrick's Day. I was already a few deep.
>>7701221That is so fucking cool dude.
>>7701594>>7701623Thanks so much. I pour serious hours into diorama stuff because buying it just isn't worthwhile to me. Especially since Sci Fi stuff is seriously expensive on top of my 70 to 100 dollar figures.
>>7701640>because buying it just isn't worthwhile to me. don't know if this stems from the same mindset that i have, but i just need to get some thoughts out i have about this whole toyphotography hobby.i love to recreate the atmosphere and vibes of certain source materials (videogames mostly) by getting the figures and doing what the figures would do. BUT i just came to a point where i feel limited in what i'm doing by only being able to recreate, but not to create.i want to be able to express visual emotions and a tonality without a source material, with something i came up with on my own. i'd love to be skilled enough to have Figures and dioramas based on designs i did on my own, making the process more of what i came up with myself rather than taking existing characters and being limited to the characters authentic behaviour.i just feel like this is just more of an art form if the stuff was created by the photographer, being able to really get his own vision into perspective without relying on this stuff.but.. its just my own autistic interpretation of all this being art, making too much of a hassle about taking photos of toys.
>>7701726Just take up two hobbies: One is literal toy photography and the other is Laika tier sets and figures designed by you. My man moonshine animations tore apart half his figma collection and created new , albeit generic characters out of the pieces. If you aren't willing to go that far then yeah you'll always be constrained. I'll still praise effort when I see it even if it is just recreations of other media.
>>7701726That's interesting to read. I think we're always trying to recreate what figures would do in their respective universes. I think it's only natural unless you're aiming for something funny with figures doing what they usually don't. For every figure there's always a backstory so we're kinda limited by that sometimes, I know it happens to me. As far as dioramas go, they're ok but I prefer real enviroments.
>>7701798kek, best pic yet.
>>7701726>I want to be able to express visual emotions and a tonality without a source materialI'm more into Lego so I can express myself creatively in that medium, but I don't really take photos of them. I don't know if you are into customs, but I guess if you are that it would allow for you to build your own characters. The Mega Bloks anon that posts here seems to make some of his own figures too by swapping body parts and the like - maybe this might interest you? Again, I'm not an action figure kind of guy, but there must be a line of figures that allows you to swap parts out between characters to create your own. Once you have characters, you can build the dioramas from there as you have a staring point from which to work upon.>this being artDon't detract from your hobby anon. Art, by definition, is just the expression of human creativity and imagination, and toy photography is certainly a form of art.
>>7701640That makes sense.>>7701640My dios are just playsets and accessories put together to make an environment. It get's the job done for for environments. But I usually shoot outside, so the main use I get out of them is a personal display setting at home.
>And now I present to you Gothic Lolita: East and West!
>>7701416>>7701412lord_traxis if you're actually interested.I hope I didn't just make a gigantic mistake...
>>7701825I get the best out of my photos from real world setting tho.>>7701820LEGO is a great way to be creative.>toy photography is certainly a form of art.I agree with this too. But I think photography in general, and done with a purpose, is art as well.
>>7701726>>7701767So I have a pretty extensive collection and have been wanting to get back into toy photography myself as it's been years since I took some proper photos. I'm no pro by any means but I would consider placing these characters, with their established attitudes and mannerisms, in opposite roles. Subvert expectations in a sense. Then work in between the two extremes and then just do whatever you want. Not saying I've done any of that, but logically I feel like it will give you a better experience working with your figures and may allow you to start creating rather than recreating.
>>7701841>a purposeI think I mean "with intent". That's probably a better way to put it.
>>7701767>>7701726I only recently got into toy photography mainly as a way to "legitimize" play. I'm usually trying to create and tell a story with my pics.
>>7701845Yeah I know what you mean, I haven't done it personally because I have no problem recreating(yet) but it's always an option, it's all about creativity. To me, seeing a character doing the opposite is always funny, it always makes me chuckle, that's what I get from those pictures. I don't know if that's the author's intent but that's my reaction.A "problem" that I always have is the setting. Some characters look odd in some environments, like having spiderman in the mountains or robocop in the dessert, stuff like that. It looks off to me.>>7701854There are definitely different styles out there. Some people like to recreate action sequences with fireworks and explosions(which is kinda being overused especially with stormtroopers)Others like to just pose their figure, make it look cool and take a pic. I think I like doing that you mentioned the most. I kinda like letting the person looking at the picture know what happened or what's gonna happen, you know?
>>7699442Over in the 1/18 thread mostly. I haven't had much time to shoot. I've been busier than usual these past few months. It's also been over 100 degrees outside most days. I've got a backlog of shit I need to get to including Acid Rain, some 1/12 knights, and Dime Novel Legends shit but I think I'll wait for the HACKS horse on that one. >>7699948>>7699736 Missed ya'll too

>>7701945His pics are fine. It's the way you guys treat him and the way he responds that's the issue. It snowballs.>>7702012there's nothing wrong with having a subject you like featuring pictures of.>>7701854I got into toy photography cuz back when I used to read Wizard magazine, the toy photos people used to submit was my favorite part. Then ToyFare followed suit. I just like looking at fun toys photos, so I figure if I create some, there'll be more to look at.
>>7702052Thanks, I guess.

It’s nice seeing a bunch of anons posting and some healthy discussion.>>7701726I think it’s because you use characters with very established personalities. Try using nameless characters and you’ll feel more freedom in creating scenarios. I guess that’s why Stormtroopers are so prevalent in Insta, they’re easy to use as self-inserts.
>>7702286He just found out about the abortion.
>>7702088np. I like this series of photos too. >>7702133see this guy gets it.Just shoot what you like. It'll reach somebody. and if it doesn't at least you're having fun.>>7702301This is a good shot. The stand is almost unnoticeable and the framing is good.>>7702313this is good advice. What I like to do is I'll place a personality onto my figures when I get them. Or actually most of the time I don't know the established personality of the character, cuz I never seen the source material. That helps too.>>7702276>>7702280>>7702294The lighting and depth of field of your shots are very dramatic. I like it.
>>7702882How did you know?>>7703145Thanks. I see my figures as actors. For serious stuff they are acting. For fun stuff its the actors on break
How do you guys deal with bulky figures? Because most of the time it's really hard to pose them in proper action. At least for me.
>>7703600>>7703603I love the Hots NECA! They deserve way more attention. Nice shots btw!
>>7703163>I see my figures as actornever thought if them as that. I always thought of the skeletons as just people living their lives and having to deal with wacky stuff. Transformers I think of as their character. If they hardly have character I try to give them some character.
>>77038852 drunk white girls
>>7703761Thank you. You are lucky to get Sylvanas. She sold out so quickly.
>>7703861My crush loved that game. Watched let's play to have something to talk about. Didn't understand shit.
>>7703761>>7703960I keep forgetting I have that figure too. I need to get her out of storage.
>>7703600>>7703603Damn thats a really good looking thrall, I wish they had done a garrosh.
>>7704085Or Malfurion and Anub'arakActually we need a damn Artanis figure there are none out there
>>7704085Me too. Garrosh, Zuljin and Anubarak are my favourites.
>>7704111It's shame it got discontinued. Hots is pretty dead right now and the only figures from Blizzard we get are Overwatch characters. Which is totally unfair considering characters like Gul'dan, Kerrigan, Artanis or Diablo are iconic not only for that company, but for gaming world as a whole and have several semidecent novels written about them while Overwatch is just forgettable fps. Sad thing is that characters like Ragnaros or Anubarak are lore dead and don't have enough fans, so we probably will never get their toys.
>>7703145Thanks anonThe Only 2 figs I have that are pretty nice, could only find them at an anime con last year, since amazon at the time was sold out. I usually go on /p/ to post most landscape images I take with my dslr , but it seems like /p/ isnt the place to post pics of my figs.

Does anyone think that having two threads about toy photos severely limits traffic for both threads?>inb4 do you hate fun?
>>7707650So do you post in the Thread About Toys? Why even have two threads? Are people afraid to post in this thread because they think we're all critical snobs or something?
>>7707717The other one has more of a fuck it type of photography, minimal effort put into it. Not that we have professionals in this thread but you can see more dedication in the photos posted here. With that said, toy photography is toy photography so no, I don't think we need two threads.
>>7696175>>7696177>>7696596Dorky yes , but the photography is good , my only gripe is the yellow lines in the road , if not for those she would almost look like she is to scale instead of miniature. God bless dork anon
>>7707589no./toy/ is traditionally so, so I guess I'm used to threads being dead for a bit.>>7707717The other one's more "let's have fun and play with toys" and this one's more about composition and proper shooting and trying to get better with your shots maybe. Which is why people will post in here asking form general tips and such.>So do you post in the Thread About Toys?Yeah. I post in both, but I don't post the same photos is each.I think each thread has it's place.
>>7707810Hah yeah. I shoulda gotten some shots of her off to the side not on the lines, but I really wanted the lead lines to point towards the subject so I had to put her in the center of the street.I like the height of the first photo but the centering of the second one, but neither completely. Thanks btw.>>7707868>... /toy/ is traditionally so ..."... traditionally slow* ..." is what I meant to say. My key board is fucked up, I think.
>>7696186Date a 1/12 girl in cafeteria.
>>7707717In previous threads, a few anons have stated they feel this general can be a bit too snobby/one for namefags at times. While they both seem to serve the same purpose, they both hit slightly different goals. This general would be where I come for more technical advice if I needed it with the other general been the place I'd go to ask about fun little items I can use in my photos. It wouldn't hurt to have them both together though, as a little variety from the serious professional type of photos is always nice.
>>7707717Me, no. I dont want to spam my photos in a bunch of threads. I already post in the skeleton thread and this one. These two are enough. But I see why the other one would be used. They just wanna chill and play with their toys. This thread is different. sometimes people ask for advice on how to improve , get tips on photography, and try to get better. And since there are critiques going out it can get a bit heated.
>>7708291Which one do you anons like best?
>>7708295Second one. The shadows/contrasting on the first one are a bit harsher. Both are good tho.
>>7708295>>7708420Also forgot to mention that cleaner bg on the second one works more to feature the subject. Less clutter.
>>7708041Love the look of this guy, who is he?
>>7709003It is transformers cybertron scout class Overhaul.
Don't know if I posted this one before. I tried using a wallpaper for the background
>>7709173I like it. Turned out good.
>>7707737>>7707983>>7708041>>7707868Thanks guys for the feedback. Made me feel like a reporter investigating a controversial subject.
>>7709342>controversial subject. It's really not tho.for instance a pose thread is essentially serves the same purpose as a photo thread or a thread about toys on the surface level, but that's really where the similarities would end.Shit there are tons of other threads that, while unique, are completely pointless other than a general blog type post or personal inquiry, that could easily have been put into a general. But those threads have potential to result in something that could end up being classic /toy/.
>>7709367You say that yet there multiple replies with conflicting views when no one had to post at all. You didn't need to reply to me just now and here you are trying to explain random shit as board culture.
>>7709394didn't mean to reign on your parade. Just stating an opinion.
>>7709476np. Last time I tried the desktop wallpaper for the background it didn't come out all that great.
>>7709515Maybe it's the brightness on your screen? I did it with my tv and using a camera. Don't know if that has anything to do with it
>>7709515I think one of the most important things to do when using a monitor as your backdrop is to try to match the lighting of your background. That way, the character doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, and as a bonus you'll get to experiment with new lighting techniques. Screen brightness and your camera's white balance settings are also very important things to be mindful of, since it can easily pick up on the light coming from your monitor and make the background look washed out or too obviously a flat surface. Hope this helps.
>>7709693maybe Should I turn down the brightness?>>7709703yes. this is good advice. It's also the toughest thing. not having your figure look like it's just standing in front of a screen. You guys did a good job with it.I might give it another shot.
I love these threads! Makes me want to get back into toy photography.
>>7709515It helps to have another source of lighting illuminating the figure and the background, so it “sets” them on the same plane.
>>7709899yeah I should've done that. I couldn't get the shot with a light though as it was glaring too much on my screen.

>>7715178He does it for the (You)s. Why else would he make like 8 posts in a row.
I'm having a wicked case of shooter's block, photographer's block, whatever our equivalent of writer's block is. I took like five pics today and tried for more and I'm not feeling any of the locations or subjects.
>>7715670>5 picsIt takes me like 50 pics to get a good one. It happens anon, sometimes i get everything ready, take some pics, see the results and I'm not happy so I delete everything. It will come back, it always does.
>>7715699I'm sure it will, but I was suddenly hit with the realization I hadn't taken seriously taken any in a week and stopped everything I was doing to get to it. Then i couldn't find any figures that were really calling to me to shoot and when I settled, I was just like, ehh. Maybe I need to finally branch out of my back yard. Maybe it's just that it's 90 degrees out and getting down low for shots is super uncomfortable today.
>>7715707Yeah I've been there, sometimes I feel like I haven't taken any pics in a while and decide to get to it only to have bad results. Don't forget this is just a hobby so don't put pressure on yourself, there are times when I take pics every day then take long breaks before inspiration comes back.Just take your time anon
>>7715670I assume you are the lad who does all the Mega Blok stuff? Maybe try an entirely new subject or something not in nature, or self impose a restriction on your shooting style to see how you adapt.
>>7715737I'm not, actually. I've got a bunch, but never took pictures of them yet.
>>7715737>I assume you are the lad who does all the Mega Blok stuff? That’s me and ironically I’m going through the same lack of motivation this >>7715670 anon is. My way of dealing with it is to push through. I read somewhere that waiting for inspiration is a mistake. You should just keep working and take advantage of inspiration when it comes, but never stop doing your thing.I do understand the 90 degrees thing, though, here it’s 104 from sunrise til sunset. Makes it very hard to shoot outside. I’ve tried indoor shoots with dios too.My advice to you anon >>7715670 is to keep going. Try different figs, methods, copy scenes from movies or famous pictures or paintings (pic related), but just keep taking pics.

I Forgot I had a whole bag full of other troopers and droids i just refound yesterday so this battle was a little more bare then I would like, but Timeframe really only allowed for this many .
I took this one to compare the scale of these toys, but it's kind of cute.
>>7722291That moomin stuff looks pretty cool. Does it scale well with 1:12 figures or is it too small?
>>7722291What's the background? Reminds me of something.

I love seeing other people’s pics online, I though “someone should do Mega CoD pics” and since no one was doing it at the time, I went ahead.I keep doing it because it makes the collection far more enjoyable as it becomes interactive and not just open toy, put on shelf, forget about it. I also can’t seem to stop thinking about what pic to take next.
>>7722324>>7722386It's the re-ment Moomin warm house set. Most of it is too small for 1:12. It's almost too small for 1:18.
