>Dead toyline and friends general
Why do you boomer OP insisting on calling it BS?! Even the image thread is no longer BS.
>>
>>7673915
There's nothing wrong with keeping the name a reference to Busou Shinki purely for legacy reasons, even though the line is dead and Konami has almost certainly pulled out of the revival. A lot of the current mecha musume boom owes thanks to Busou Shinki being created and then suddenly cancelled, followed by Koto taking the risk of trying to fill the market void left behind and achieving such smashing success that many other companies have joined in. In a twisted way, without Konami being such dicks, we might not have FAGs or DTAs, and we definitely wouldn't have MDs or all the other sister lines.
>>
>>7673915
Tradition. Shinkis started the tiny robogirl craze and are still welcome here.

I'm really digging best girl and her crazy weapons and soft plastic leather outfit. What other AGA girls would probably work better as figmas rather than kits? I need more and there are a good bunch of qts in AGA.
Also for those curious she works with all the other lines. I swapped out her legs to the engines from my Night Asuka shinki and is listed as being compatible with Kaede's kit already.
>>

I don't see anything with bionicle written on the outside of a box. its funny how they feel the need to shit up the box with fifty generals while these thread has been going strong for over a decade.

Anyone of them that is too colorful for just molded parts and have to rely on water decals/stickers.
>>
>>7673845
I think it's delayed until the game's release which Konami keeps lagging on. There was talk about wanting the kits to coincide with the game and they kinda jumped the gun with releasing Edelweiss.

This was from many years ago, when Koto first floated working with Konami. They were quietly abandoned in favor of new kits when the actual Shinki crossover was announced, and now that's seemingly been canned too, leaving Edelweiss as the only actual crossover product that ever came out.

And in terms of doll-sized robots, Hand Maid May and Angelic Layer both came out 5 years before the first Shinki. Hoihoisan did customizeable tiny robot girls in 2003, and Gotcha Force had fighting toy-sized mecha girls in video game that same year. Busou Shinki wasn't some huge pioneer of the genre, they're just the first ones to go all in with a multimedia approach.

patience never was a thing people had, after all.
edelweiss didn't exactly spring up over night after her art was shown. taonyao may still be in dev hell. let's not go telling everyone everything is hosed without having more to go on, eh? hell, the AGA stuff is probably flowing as much as it is mostly for fact of being 3d modelled before anyone at koto has to even think about making a kit - moreso in the case of kaede/ayaka/aika/sugumi since they're going with gear that's already ingame (as opposed to the karwachauth stuff for sitara that koto had ebikawa do since they pussied out on doing the proper ganesha loadout)

we should all be familiar with konmai being retarded, but getting ahead of ourselves is just as retarded.

What started as a failed print salvage attempt, it turned into something GLORIOUS! I am proud to share the next prototype which I will now call Frame Arms Girl "Materia - Budget Meal Armor Cladding Something with Vents and Canon Shield Things"... yes it's a bit rough (way too rough) but that will change once I get my hands on a Resin Printer and escalate things once I get a proper 3D scanner and will model conversion hair for Frame Arms Girl (and ONLY Frame Arms Girl)... I always wanted a long haired Gourai or a Drill Hair Stylet... so many ideas... All I need is the proper equipment...

Yes, I did use a bit of Kotobukiya MSG here and there but overall, it's still GLORIOUS! I think Frame Arms Girl Materia White is slightly angry at me for neglecting her... maybe I should make her a unique armor cladding as well.

Guys I need help, how do you seam weld the Megami shoulders without the cement getting pulled into the moving parts by capillary action? I dabbed specifically on the peg slightly and it just travels all the way into the joint.
>>
>>7678491
dab the socket instead
>>
>>7678623
How would dabbing the socket help with a seam weld?
>>
>>7678491
Use 1/10 of the cement next time, idiot.
>>
>>7678630
use a lot less cement and gently put a thin coat on the inside rim of the socket
>>

I used the tip of a toothpick to apply it on the seam crossing the bottom of the peg. It was as little an amount of cement as I could possibly have used.

>>7678648
I am thinking next time I should probably separate the part fully, apply to the edges and then let sit before pressing together.

I have never before had an issue like this when seam welding with capillary action, koto really got things snug against each other in these MDs.

Lessons learned.

MS Girls did not start the craze, or at the very least they did not start the craze in terms of toylines. They are an old inspiration but not the catalyst.

And the AGP failed because those girls looked nothing like the old school MS Girls. Among other issues
>>
>>7679118
ms girls created the idea and then others took over, the first mecha musume kits/collectables (to my knowledge) were the armored lady statue kits by bandai then konami had a mecha musume figure line, after that we got shinki, f.a.g, m.d, and so on, it should also be noted that the popularity of ms girls can also be traced to hookups skateboards which featured artwork of ms girls, and also things like kancolle have helped to popularize the mecha musume genre, and although agp has not seen much success (probably due to the pricepoint) there is no denying that ms girls are still very popular and with the new kits bandai has put out (fumina, gyanko, etc.) there has been much renewed interest in the idea of ms girls.

The Gigantic Arms Decal came with the Darkness Guardian Gigantic Arms. As for setup, I'm using a refurbished Ender 3 printer. Got it broken and had to replace one of the stepper motors as well as the Power Supply also did a couple of upgrades to it. Lighting does kinda hide the imperfections but I am now designing version 2 which is FTL friendly and as always, I will distribute the files for free. This particular armor Materia is wearing I already uploaded in Thingiverse but requires a few MSG parts. Ver 2 will have none of those... look forward to it Brother...

Popped or unpopped? Treatment varies with each. Unpopped you want to keep it unpopped, really not much you should do to it. Use moleskin cut in a donut shape with the blister in the middle to keep pressure from affecting it if someplace like bottom of a foot. Only time my family ever drained a blister was one caused by a burn that covered the space between the base of the thumb and pointer finger.

If it popped, don't treat it like a typical open injury with sterilyzers like alcohol. Instead you want to just wash the area, spread on some ointment like >>7687873 and cover with bandage. My family always used neosporin for the ointment.

GK-M parts are casted well, but it's pointless to recast in color when your white parts have flecks of orange and your orange parts have flecks of black.
Like great, now I definitely have to paint these parts if I want them to fit with the kit they are for.

>>
>>7693178
Do they recast things in colors that they don't normally show up in?
>>
>>7693221
Specifically I am talking about recast Muscuto Megami Device sets. I believe some of the same molds were used for parts that come in either white, orange (SOL color), or black.
So instead of cleaning out the mold between casting runs, they just let the debris from the last run sit in the molds, leaving flecks of incorrect colored resin in the product.

>>
>>7693230
>>7693178
interesting, I've purchased about 8 GK-M kits to date and none have had flecks. I tend to buy early so maybe that helps? uncertain.

I have also bought a couple of the SH Studio recasts off ebay. 4 kits to date, 3 were without flecks, but the last one had debris down the center of the 2 thigh flesh parts - might just be on the outside, I didn't try to wash them off yet. They're sending me replacement parts so if I can clean them off I might end up with extra thigh parts.

Recasting those body parts in epoxy is a bad idea. Way too brittle. Vacuforming duplicates and reinforcing them from the inside is a slightly better idea.

https://youtu.be/GhXpbeKcHu0

Luca reminds me of Greifen.
>>
>>7694624
My plan is to later cast them in hard plastic. I found this material called instamorph that a lot of people apparently use to recast teeth for their dentures. I figured that if it's strong enough to handle grinding from chewing it should be good enough for joints.

But tell me more about vacuforming and how exactly would reinforcing them be like? Also wouldn't vacuforming at this scale end up making the parts a little thicker than intended? It's essentially adding a layer on top of it increasing its overall size even if it's just slightly.

Because I would buy a plated kit, but will never buy one of these piss yellow kits.
>>
>>7695296
Oh god. This instamorph is durable. A little TOO durable. After I recast the parts they're so tough they thud when they hit the table and not even my dremel can sand the stuff down let alone cut with my hobby knife. I'm only shaving it away by literally MELTING the plastic. What other material can I recast these parts in if I can't figure this stuff out?

Considering how Bandai's plating costs around 2 times the original price, you would have to expect at least 2.5~3 times of what GGGirl goes for which is like 24k yen.
>>
>>7695568
Unless GGGirl is undergated you'd also have to expect nubs everywhere in this case. If you're right about the price difference, you could just about start painting yourself instead. Dunno how costly home electroplating is.

You could always airbrush it with actual goldleaf paint

Why do I love how fucking stupid this tacky ass gold color looks?

She looks like a fucking moron

Holy shit I tried the same with Oyumaru/Blue Stuff for casting

My next step would be to use those 'moulds' and fill 'em up with PU resin (cheapest available), there's also the 'Mechanical Hobby Base' MD clone on Thingiverse you could try to put through a 3d printer

Use 1mm or 0.75mm styrene sheets. Reinforce the pieces with pla plates on the inside perpendicular to the surfaces.

that's a missile launcher, a grenade launcher is a very different thing.
>>

I uploaded the STL files on thingiverse but for some odd reason, 4chan doesn't let me post links but you can use "Frame Arms Girl Compatible Portable Grenade Launcher" as keyword... also here is detailed instructions on how to put it together.

possibly a dumb question:
would the top thigh part from an md work with the leg from a fag? or would there be too big of a size difference? also, would a full set or fag legs work on an md?
>>
>>7695560
you may need a diamond grinder bit to work that stuff, if that doesn't work then nothing will.
>>
>>7695552
chrome gold spraypaint might be able to help fix this mess
>>
>>7696171
Not sure on size difference but you would have to cut the pegs off either the thigh or leg. FAG legs entirely are longer but they look fine on an MD, but I'm at work so I can't get a pic right now

What kind of resin do people normally make their recasts with? Is it polyurethane or epoxy resin?
>>
>>7696378
Epoxy, seems like the other is probably worth it only if you plan on casting multiple things.

I'm thinking about testing between making some silicone molds and casting resin but also testing out how polymer clay would work in my current oyumaru molds. I know that resin will give me good results but I'm curious to see the durability that polymer clay can provide. It seems like after it bakes it can actually be flexible which might be good but I'm not sure. Does anyone here have any experience dealing with polymer clay and is it something you'd want a figure made of?

What people do is reheat the plastic, smoosh it into the molds and trim the excess. Let cool and repeat until you get minimal excess material from the mold seams.
>>

Polymer clay is very brittle after baking, right?
>>
I don't know why, but I'm really stressed on starting any of my mecha musume kits (FAGs, MDs, Chitocerium). Even though I have years of Gunpla and HMM experience under my belt. I guess I feel some pressure to make them really pretty, and I worry my crude robot skills are not up to the task. Are there any guides specific to these kits, concerning stuff like skin and hair shading, etc? I don't have an airbrush btw.
>>
I figured that since it turns into PVC that it would be pretty tough, but I'm not entirely sure. I would think it's brittle, but it's also PVC. PVC itself is pretty tough but still sandable.

Thank you for sharing your work.

I mean... it might be a missile Brother but it has Grenade on the tip and you launch the missile, missile with Grenade, which you launch, so it has to be a Grenade launcher...

Is the matte spray just to give the pencil a better surface to adhere to?
>>
>>7697228
with actual missiles they don't carry a grenade inside them they have an explosive payload which depending on how the missile is made will explode on contact usually because the tip being hit will work as a trigger whereas a grenade is a handheld explosive that will explode after a few seconds after it is primed, in terms of design a grenade launcher is a much different thing, what you have made would be classified as as missile launcher or as a projectile launcher or it could also be called a missile pod, you should look into actual military hardware, but as a general name it should be call a projectile launcher or a projectile pod.
