Actually it's not the color of the socket, it's just the shitty squared off socket design Lego made for the 08 and 09 sets. My step brothers had all the 09 figs and every single one had their sockets cracked.
>>
>>7636063
Fuck off with this dumbass question
>>

Yeah I don't get it. Nearly all my original style sockets are totally fine (not counting Hahli Mahri) except for some cracked bohrok feet, which is common, but I found cracked square sockets all over my Karda Nui and Glatorian guys. At least only one of them up and fucking broke instead of more.

I don't know if the new design is just bad or if they started using cheaper plastic or what.

>>
>>7636981
you say that like its a bad thing
>>
>>7636916
I love the Bahrag but their function is bad. It relies on force and momentum rather than good design. You have to squeeze their trigger fast, otherwise the mouth will only open but not close. You have to move them so fast that the momentum and the force of the pieces pushing against the upper jaw will momentarily shove the jaws off their gears, allowing the rubber bands to snap them shut and reattach to the gear. If you let go, their necks retract with the gears grinding against each other with a horrid sound.
That's just how they were designed. They're not like the Muaka and Kane-Ra where you can move them with any speed and the jaws will close in a precise manner. Also they're practically impossible to aim. And if that wasn't enough, the half-width Technic pieces holding their teeth are very brittle.

Vorox and Zesk continued the time honored tradition of the brown sets consistently being the best sets, up to the very end.

I think I wanna replace the blue pins on this Vorox. I don't usually mind them but they clash especially hard on something that's supposed to have earthy camouflage. I don't get why his leg and arm armours are tacked on with long pins anyway,

Literally why does pic related exist? It wasn't a misprint since as I recall it was included in all Icarax sets. Why did they feel need to change the mold in such a minor way 90% of buyers wouldn't even notice? Filling in those holes consumed more plastic, at that.

If it makes you feel better, they're only quasi- Mcdonalds toys. Part of why they're so good in the first place is that lego did all the production and gave them to Mcdonalds rather than being produced as a typical Mcdonalds toy.

It adapts to the environment specifically to give them an ideal advantage within it. No matter where they fight, they'll always be equipped and prepared, unlike the Mahri who are stuck with their aquatic utilities. Plus, the Mahri have lost their supercharged powers and organic masks, so the Nuva are objectively more powerful even without the armor.

Again, the armor is negligible when it comes to combat.
>>
>>7639841
Nigga, Nynrah Ghost Blasters can shoot light energy too. In fact, they're literally just like Skyblasters, only more versatile because they can shoot any sort of projectile the Toa can imagine.
Again. You're wrong.
>>
>>7639855
Did a quick check on Bio01, and shit you're actually right.
I concede on this front.
However I still think the armor is negligible in this scenario, because the Mahri has no exploitable weaknesses that could be solved with a new weapon.
Mind you, I do think the Nuva would win, though not because of the armor, but because they are just plain much stronger.
>>
>>7639864
>because the Mahri has no exploitable weaknesses that could be solved with a new weapon
On a blank playing field with no obstacles maybe. You aren't considering that literally no matter what the terrain or surrounding area is like, the Adaptive Nuva will always be more equipped to conquer it. The Mahri's inherent weakness by comparison is literally spelled out for you. They can't adapt nearly as efficiently. Especially when their opponents have elemental control as well, which can immeasurably alter the terrain of their battlefield, not being able to answer every obstacle with new tricks is a huge setback for the Mahri.
>>

Let's say you were in charge of the writing for Bionicle 2.
How would you handle the fight between Vakama/the Toa Metru and Makuta?
Hard mode: Makuta has to take a legit L and he can't pull a "just as keikaku" like in the later years
>>

>cracks start appearing on the Vahi as Vakama is slowly snapping it in half
>grass is growing super fast and dying, the waves crashing against the seawall are frozen in place in some spots, rain flows upward in some areas
>Teridax is basically begging this madman to stop
>Vakama is completely fine tearing reality apart in the MU just to keep Teridax from winning
>TSO, Voporahk and other Dark Hunters show up, and knock the mask out of Vakama's hands as they attempt to kill both him and Teridax

I'm just curious if the adaptive armor is supposed to give them immunity.
B01 doesn't give me any info on that, but I kinda remember Tahu avoiding the swamp, while I also remember a few panels from the comics, where they fall into it.
>>
>>7640237
>I kinda remember Tahu avoiding the swamp
Yes.
>I also remember a few panels from the comics, where they fall into it.
Also yes.

My impression is that it doesn't make them fully immune, but it's definitely protective on some level. The Mahri Matoran weren't immediately mutated by it - the mutagen takes a little bit to fully transform you.

That said you would think that if the Adaptive Armor let Lewa survive in space, there would be a deep sea mutagen contingency. It's not like Artakha was ignorant to the mutagen's existence.
>>
>>7640246
>That said you would think that if the Adaptive Armor let Lewa survive in space, there would be a deep sea mutagen contingency. It's not like Artakha was ignorant to the mutagen's existence.
Not the guy you were talking to but I'm pretty sure the reason he could survive in space was because he was a Toa of Air, and could generate it where none existed previously
>>
>>7640248
Nah. It's confirmed that the Adaptive Armor has a space adaptation that allowed him to breathe, kept him from freezing, and provided navigational thrust.
>>
>>7640251
Why didn't everyone else immediately die if the adaptation was that important, then?
>>
>>7640256
I mean, it wasn't super important. But it's a thing that was confirmed to have happened.
>>
>>7640259
That's fair. I still feel that the adaptive armor is more incidental when comparing the Toa Nuva to other teams, though, simply because the amount of power and control they have over the elements is much greater than normal. Presumably, they're also better at absorbing elemental energy than a normal Toa.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that they're a good midpoint between regular Toa and the Element Lords in that regard. They get their shit kicked in because they never fully cut loose like the ELs.
>>
>>7640299
Also, am I the only person salty that we never got to see any Toa fight or even confront any of the Element Lords? That could have been a god-tier callback to the 2001 story.
>>
>>7640299
I don't think the Adaptive Armor is the reason they'd beat the Mahri either. But it's certainly not an inconsequential factor. It's a cherry on top.
More often than not, the Nuva only ever got their asses handed to them because they underestimated their enemies. But they pretty much got that weakness ironed out by '08. By then their teamwork was on point and they understood well that the Makuta were overpowered as fuck.
>>
>>7640309
Glad we agree on that.
It's still fun to talk about, though.

The Hagah have tens of thousands of years of experience under their belts, did a succesful raid on Destral to steal the mask of Light, and kicked the shit out of Teridax. I think they are pretty much the strongest natty Toa team.
>>
>>7640333
The Mangai were just a bunch of randos that happened to be on their off day when the Kanohi Dragon attacked, so they assembled to help.
The Hagah were hand picked by the Makuta for their excellence out of previous teams and then further trained to be elite guard.
I agree. Only the Nuva, Helryx, and Tuyet with the Nui Stone are stronger Toa.

>>
Speaking about new unique parts from earlier, did anyone else get annoyed by the fact that they pretty much just stopped coming up with new leg/arm pieces after the Inikas?

By the end of G1 it started to seem like every other set was using Vahki, Metru and Piraka legs, with the other types sprinkled around randomly.
>>
>>7640605
Yes. But as I recall it was also around the end of G1 that Lego realized they had been spending way too much on molds during G1's entire run, which is always a risk with series that have limited appeal and rely on big specialized pieces, such as Constraction. Hence the reduction on new molds for reusable pieces like limbs.
>>
>>7640622
honestly i don't really understand why every new set had to have an exclusive mask/weapon getup
i'm sure people would've been fine with the toa metru having the same masks as their turaga sets and people wouldn't complained too much if the recolours were new, same with weapons every once in a while
>>
>>7640629
I do wish they'd focused on making the builds more unique instead of just slapping some new molds on an inika / piraka build
>>

>>
>>7639231
does this image trigger anyone else in that it's not accurate? middle torso should be upside down and only one head. and where are the giant hands covering the chest?
>>
>>7640344
canonically, all Toa have the same upper power limit, so it all comes down to skill, experience, and how effective their mask/equipment powers are. The Nuva are the only ones with a higher limit. But as >>7640368 mentioned she doesn't follow the Toa Code, so she doesn't have to hold herself back by using nonlethal attacks
>>
>>7640666
I'm sure you do, Satan. IIRC, Faber mentioned he imagined Makuta as a kind of illness whose defeat strengthens the immune system, thereby being beneficial in the long run. He was supposedly so strong that it required someone special to beat him and rediscover Metru Nui, which was Takanuva. Thereby Makuta's reign indirectly lead to the forthcoming of a powerful warrior of light.
Others have speculated Makuta did mean well overall, hence his "sleep spares Mata Nui pain" comment in MoL and his reluctance to release the Rahkshi. He probably realized Mata Nui's awakening would destroy the island and wanted to prohibit it, so that the Matoran would live there further as if they were his people, while the Toa just disturbed the status quo he had set up. His underlying goal was good (giving the Matoran a place to live) but his methods were wrong (keeping them in terror and not letting them prosper).
But Makuta was such a nebulous entity that practically everyone who wrote for Bionicle imagined him differently. He meant different things for Swinnerton, Faber, Templar, Hapka, the movie writers and Greg.
>>
>>7639502
Also, is there a picture of him using Malum’s feet?

We don't know if that's how the Element Lords were supposed to look, though. Technically they were mutated Glatorian, and it's not that they could have used up the year's entire budget (and some more) just for them. I like seeing the Garai used as armor. It has a unique look but doesn't really read as a face as much as other masks or heads do when used as armor (which is something I've always been super autistic about, Takanuva's Takadox shoulders and Maxilo's Vezon shoulders are so jarring).

I think I'll always feel a little eh about Metru Nui's lore and setting and a lot that went into it (Like the Vahki). I like the toys but the shift from Mata Nui's tribal islander feel to Metru Nuis 1984 techno hellhole gave me some ridiculous mood whiplash as a kid and I still think that way.

Stupid Maoris just couldn't share their culture and had to ruin my fun. Bitches.
>>
>>7643783
I actually want all 48 active Krana more than I want a complete collection of Kanohi. I think It'd be cool to string each collection of 8 together and drape the Toa Mata with them like in the comics/promos.
>>
>>7643813
By all accounts, the story was always intended to shift into more of a scifi setting.

>>

Yeah, I've sort of been getting sucked into the Kanohi collecting rabbithole lately, but luckily I really only want the original 12 mask variants. Shit's expensive as is. I think the Krana are less so in general but there's more of them (I did briefly consider trying to get one Bohrok for every active Krana though, which is probably worse).

If I may bitch for a second though, shit really is more expensive than I thought it'd be. Most of the Noble masks aren't too bad, but it really starts racking up fast with the great Kanohi. Especially some of the Kaukau variants are sitting solidly at like 20+ bucks a pop...even some of the Ruru/Matatu misprints are cheaper than just regular orange or clear Kaukaus. Shit's fucking nuts.

I have this feeling that when I looked at the Bricklink prices for this stuff like a decade ago everything was a lot cheaper, but it's pretty fuzzy. Either way I regret not jumping on any of this stuff before.

[nospoilersontoy]And all I want these masks for is to make more Tohunga, which only adds to my suffering[/nospoilersontoy]

WHY THE FUCK DID HE AND HYDRAXON EVEN HAVE MASKS WE COULDVE GOTTEN MORE UNIQUE HEAD BUILDS BUT NO WE GOT RANDOM ASS MASKS WITH NO POWERS EVER DEFINED REEEEE
>>
>>7643918
Yeah it would totally be a really expensive collection to start.

You have to remember that every alternate colour was from goddamn blind bags (boxes but whatever) so the quantities for them are really unpredictable. I only ever got a handful of those mask/krana/kraata blindbags as a kid and I wish I could have gotten more then, but hey it was either them or an actual new toy.
>>
>>7643930
Because all the "unique head builds" from '04 and '05 were bullshit and confusing to look at.

Greg just didn't like writing stuff he wasn't particularly good at or interested in. Remember, he is of the opinion that one cannot improve their writing, so he hardly tried. He didn't understand (or didn't bother to) how Templar handled treespeak, so he phased it out or halfassed it. He said he found the Vahki too limited and boring because they had no individuality, so again, he didn't try to make them interesting like Templar did.
Meanwhile he said he was really good at writing "crazy" characters, hence his over-reliance on Vezon in the serials.
>>
>>7643951
not sure where you got that bit about improvement, but it seems Greg wouldn't agree:

>My goal is someday to write something that truly matters—that touches people, that makes some difference in their lives. But I do not think I am yet wise enough to do that.

guess we'll have to settle with Time Trap in the meanwhile
>>
>>7643959
Ok I should rephrase that. He specifically said he doesn't believe in being taught how to write well, he thinks you either have talent to write to begin with or don't.

I like velika’s build. All of the voya nui matoran are really imaginative imo. They’re an aesthetic shitty. Forever mad they didn’t each have recollered metru masks, like a white huna for kazi for example. But then again I’m mad they stopped making all colored masks in general :( WHY DIDNT I EVER BUY ANY MASK PACKS
>>
>>7644789
Really? Aww. Are there any good speculations or rumors on how things would’ve ended?
>>
>>7644885
The broad stroke ideas we know of are that the Element Lords would be more prominent, there would be a civil war against the Great Beings, and Takanuva's destiny would be instrumental.
>>
>>7644897
>takanuva’s destiny
Wasn’t his destiny already fulfilled like two or three times now? Also how do we know these broad strokes?
>>
>>7644916
No. Takanuva's destiny was never fulfilled.
>>
>>7644884
>They’re an aesthetic shitty
Good way to put it. They feel like custom builds but they had a nice theme cross them by using clear teeth for detailing and incorporating Bohrok feet into their torso (Kazi being the odd one out in yet another way). I just wish Garan and Velika had different builds, weird that they're the only same ones.

I do agree about the mask colours though. They should have at least done the Metru Matoran thing where in reusing the masks they shuffle the colours around. I wish they kept selling mask recolours too but I guess they just didn't find those blindbags profitable enough (which is also probably why they stopped making such a big deal out of masks in general in lore too, outside of the Mask of Life of course)
>>
>>7644930
Let’s all agree that if one of us ever wins the lottery we will use the money to pay LEGO to make new recollected masks of all types
>>

(The camera flash exagerates the colours (Onua's mask, sockets feet and claws are all jet black to the naked eye, but the torso is not) but it's pretty jarring.)
A few other pieces faded a bit too but nothing as noticable as the mata torsos. I guess it's just difference plastic compositions reacting differently or something. Guess I'll go back to cleaning everything by hand again, shit. Also guess I'm in the market for new mata torsos, crap.

Yeah, I don't know if going with hot water was the right call.
I've been cleaning my old stuff, and new parts I've been getting off Bricklink and stuff recently, but I just leave them soaking in regular soapy water for a while to loosen up the grime, and then rinse them or scrub them slightly if the need arises. Some of those Bricklink sellers are not as hygienic as I would like.
Probably a slower process than going with hot, but I haven't damaged anything that way.
>>
>>7645952
Heat is rarely good for plastic of any kind.
>>
>>7645961
>>7645966
>>7645967
It's not that bad at a glance but you see it if you look for it so I'm definitely gonna try and replace them out. I would always just hand clean with hot water but the hot soak is definitely what did them in.

At least it's only the torsos, and the white torsos can't fade any more than they already did.
>>
>>7645914
I really like that mask a lot. Has a sort of 2001 feeling to it.
>>
>>7645974
i wonder what would happen to my borderline yellow kopaka mata torso if i did that.
>>
>>7646106
I wonder if retrobrite would work for that? Though that basically just melts off the outermost layer of plastic iirc so that's probably bad for a toy.

You could probably just scrub the yellow off but since mata torsos have so many pits and recesses on them you wouldn't be able to get it all.
>>
>>7645952
>>7645966
Yeah, it almost sounds like OP put a pot on the stove and got the water boiling. I use hot water to clean my parts, but I get it from my bathroom sink. I like getting it to a temperature where I can fully submerge my hand in the water and not have to yank it out, but it's still hot.
>>
>>7646171
Yeah pretty much. Though to be fair I did try soaking a bunch of loose parts like that first to see if it was safe, then did another batch with my mctorans, turagas and bohrok va and they were fine, then my matas got bleached

I reread Mutran Chronicles today, and I still think it's one of the best serials.
I remember Mutran as being significantly more biting and sarcastic. He's a lot more quiet and introverted, while Chirox is more extroverted and aggressive. At least that's the impression I got.

But more importantly did pic related have a point in keeping things as they were or was he just being a submissive cuck?
>>
>>7646949
has anyone else ever managed to build this guy
>>
>>7646949
I see him as more conservative than submissive. While he likely understood Terry's motives, he didn't necessarily think the Plan would have panned out. That, and I think his priorities were more making sure that the BoM would remain a strong, stable faction instead of risking it all for ultimate power.

Keep in mind, too, that ultimately he was right. Terry ended up killing, what, 99% of the Brotherhood?
>>
>>7646958

I don't know, there was some red Dark Hunter moc whose book pic was a total mess because whoever took the photo gave it a weird torso and head angle.
Turns out it had a quite decent looking, I don't remember the moc's name but it was draca or something like that.

Regardless, as >>7647209 said the moc probably looks like shit no matter the angle. I tried to build the body as accurate as possible but it was a total mess, it was probably because it uses rubber bands.

>>
>>7648042

>>
>>7648042
>>7648050
the way i always understood it is that the whole endgame of coming up with The Plan was so he wouldn't have to bother planning anything ever again afterwards
>>
>>7648042
Which low IQ minion did he kill though? As I remember he killed only the Makuta (because they actually posed a threat to his plans).
He was still short sighted though. He didn't realize that killing all his siblings and turning into some god-emperor tyrant would never earn him the respect he wanted. He just became the most hated person in the universe.

>>7647908
>draca or something like that
Firedracax?
>>
>>7648347
I doubt dumbasses like Bitil or Gorast could ever have threatened him unlike freaking Toa Nuva or Takanuva, which they actually did end up doing.
>>
>>7648354
There's a reason Teridax sent those 8 to Karda Nui and made it 100% sure they would get killed, they were described as the Brotherhood's elite. Even a retard cuck like Bitil was dangerous thanks to his Kanohi power. Tridax seemed to be elite-tier too.
As smart as Teridax was, the Brotherhood had some crazy scientific and military geniuses among its ranks.

Even a mad zealot like Gorast had figured out Teridax's trickery by the time the Karda Nui storms broke out. Mutran figured out to stop the storms by mere observation and had perfect knowledge on how the universe worked courtesy of Tren Krom's mind rape.

Had the Karda Nui Makuta (sans Krika and Icarax of course) survived the storms Teridax would've been in trouble. A Mutran-Chirox-Tridax teamup would've probably found a way to remove Teridax from the core. And the others would've helped with their powers and tactical skills.
