This is a place to discuss all things He-Man/She-Ra.

>A New MOTU toyline is in the works called, Masters of the Universe: Origins, the first figures of which are being released as an exclusive two-pack at SDCC which contains Prince Adam and He-Man done in the style of the mini-comics

I'm starting to pick up old 200X toys, and it's crazy the number of variants of figures that are out there and not documented, which I never knew existed, because the He-Man websites out there seem to not care about documenting 200X toys as much as vintage and Classics figures.

This Dragon Walker for example has an exclusive European paint variant where He-Man has tribal tattoos.

>>
>>7633288
So are we getting these new figures outside of SDCC? Like, a retail release or something? Even if it's just He-Man?
>>
>>7633288

I want a Mega Construx line of figures to rival the Classics line.
>>
How will they fuck The inevitabile carton reboot /toy/?
>>
>>7633341
Probably not the mini-comic style Prince Adam, which is an easy pass, but the He-Man will for sure see a retail release. It's been said that they're the first preview figures of a new line that's being released because of the live action movie that's in the works. The line's being worked on by the 4Horsemen.

>>7633343
There could be word on that in the coming weeks. If they don't say anything at SDCC, then they'll for sure mention their plans for Mega at Power-Con. Mattel told Pixel Dan at Toy Fair that they had stuff to show off at Power-con, which was why they didn't show off pretty much anything for Mega Construx during Toy Fair.

>>7633346
Extremely diverse Neflix series. There's already massive bickering on He-Man.org after some tard made a thread saying He-Man should be gay in the reboot, and then another tard chimed in and called everyone a homophobe for thinking it was a bad idea.

200X "Disco" Skeletor. It's a repaint of the basic Skeletor figure with a purple vac-metal chest and some Halloween style colors. He's one of the more desirable Skeletor variations from the line.

Super7 could have, but I don't think you'll see them doing anything any time soon like that, since Mattel is taking back it's license to produce the new toys. It's unclear what lines Super7 will be able to do still. It's believed the re-action figures are fine, but Classics will be on hiatus.
>>
>>7633403
Why is that series called 200X?
>>
>>7633409
Because it's a reboot that lasted from 2002-2004. 200X is the name the series is often referred to to differentiate it from the 80's cartoon and toys.
>>
>>7633411
Why did it fail? The cartoon was good
Better than the original
>>
>>7633413
It's a mystery. There's been interviews with 4H on it, as well as with writers on the cartoons, and both mention that the Cartoon Network show, for some reason got bad ratings, with season 2 of the cartoon being an attempt by the writers to appeal even more toward kids, trying to bow to demands by CN, who said that the episode featuring the Snake Men got the highest number of viewers, so they should do Snake Men in season 2 instead of The Horde. Then CN only ordered half a season, and fucked around burning off the episodes and never replaying them, as well as moving around it's time slot before cancelling the show.

On the other end of things 4H said their were too many variants of He-Man with a few more n the works. They also said seemed to suggest that the line may have done great in lots of countries, but Mattel had a very big brain CEO who was very insistent that their toys were global and not regional, such as when one of the 4H asked the CEO about if they could just focus on marketing toward one country, or just a few countries, because some toy lines like Max Steel were making over $54 million Latin America, but not really that popular elsewhere.

So, it's vague on why it died. A combination of fuckery by CN, a glut of variant figures, and possibly Mattel deciding that maybe another toy line might some how do better "globally," Despite He-Man's reboot being very successful in the US to the point that it was a surprise when the line died.
>>
>>7633418

The various He-Man variants. I don't think this really killed the line entirely though, despite it often being criticized as a likely culprit. Other toy lines, such as Batman had variants, yet never had the plugs pulled on their lines over shitty Batman variants.
>>
Did Hordak appear in He Man media or just toys?
>>
>>7633427
He was in She-Ra mostly, but he was a thing in the 2002 cartoon.
>>
>>7633427
He was in She-Ra and He-Man crossed over into She-Ra. He was also vaguely in 200X and made a bunch of appearances in comics.

Smash Blade He-Man is often criticized, for being just He-Man with a new hat. Since he's just He-Man with some blue paint instead of brown, and with a spinning weapon that clips on his wrist.
>>
>>7633288
Is that Jem?
>>
>>7633438
Skeletor also got a spinning weapon. I recall passing up both figures, because I incorrectly assumed there must be a stupid gimmick that activated the spinning feature. I didn't realize it was just literally a simple spinning plastic accessory that could just clip on and off. I would have bought the figures then, if only just for the cool black Skeletor and spinny accessories.

Depends on how long the new line goes on for. I'd suspect they'd want to do characters from the first two waves of the vintage toy line first, most of which were essential characters:

He-Man
Skeletor
Beast Man
Mer-Man
Evil-Lyn
Faker
Trap-Jaw
Tri-Klops
Man-At-Arms
Man-E-Faces
Stratos
Zodac
Teela

I wish we could get some modern figures based on the 200X looks and proportions. I don't mind the 80's designs or anything but that just wasn't my He-Man.
>>7635290
Yep.
All of my friends were into 200X when we were kids but the He-Men and Skeletors clogged the pegs so hard that we only had three or so side characters each and none of us had the same ones yet we all had at least one Skeletor and He-Man and a variant or two.

>>

>probably a She Ra spin off set in that artstyle world.
Eh I wasn't offended by Calarts Ra since I never gave a fuck about She Ra and I actually kind of liked some of the new looks (Entrapa and Catra are cute and the girls don't look too samey) but this might piss me off a little. I am going to try to look at it as it's own thing but the faux anime Avatar thing doesn't feel right here and 200X is a hard act to follow as far as cartoon updates go.
>>
>>7636891
Maybe they bring 200X? Probably not,too racist and mysoginistic for Todays world.
>>
>>7636899
>Maybe they bring 200X?

All they would need to do for diversity is bring Clamp Champ into the main cast or something and give Teela a more active role.
It wouldn't even have to be forced and awkward like most modern cartoon diversity.
>>
>>7633418
If Heman is to get a new series on netflix, I hope it's a continuation to 200X then. Most of the heavy lifting is already done, and all they'd need to do is add the whole series in HD.

I'm building/re-building my 200X collection. I still have my figures from when I was a teenager and was collecting them, but some of them are beat up a bit from me fucking around with them.

I had basic Skeletor, Disco Skeletor, Mer-Man, Tri-Klops, Trap-Jaw, basic He-Man, and Prince Adam. Most of them except Prince Adam and Disco Skeletor are beat up.

I was trying to collect a bunch of the evil warriors back when the line first came out, but it was kinda difficult for a young teen, let alone any kids to track many down. I didn't have a car to go toy hunting from store to store and the only money I had was what my family gave me. I saw Beast Man like twice in the wild and ended up passing him up for other toys on my limited budget. I didn't usually see evil warriors except in comic shops, and then they were asking for rape prices for them. Since then the prices fell drastically with everyone getting into Classics. I did see lots of the repainted evil warriors later in the line, but never picked them up because they weren't true to the cartoon, despite that it re-released some characters like Beast Man.

I just re-bought Tri-Klops, and picked up Evil-Lyn and Teela. I'm working on picking up a Man-At-Arms and Orko next so I can complete the main cast, since you really need, He-Man, Prince Adam, Man-At-Arms, Teela, and Orko

Kobra Khan's decent, the only problem you run into with the Snake men is that they only got to make three of them in the 200X toys. Neca finished them out doing mini-statues that you can have stand in with your three figures, but the statues obviously have no articulation.

Boss Fight Studios is suggesting that Super7 will be announcing TMNT figures at SDCC with a similar idea to MOTU Origins, with Playmates style Turtles figures with modern articulation.
>>
>>7641741
Thats exactly what I want out of turtle toys, but I know they'll charge like $35 a pop. If they could be retail $15 or even 20 I'd bite.

>>
>new Masters of the Universe line
>it's old skeletor and he-man designs again

this franchise is circling a drain
>>
>>7641829
It really is.Its sad because there's a lot of us 2k3 fans who would've gladly been new blood for the line but they don't want us. I have a theory that the next step for MOTU is expensive Sideshow statues as the existing fans already have the classic 80's style toys they want between the original line for vintage, and MOTUC in both the original and Filmation incarnation.
>>
>>7641852

somehow I don't think homaging an almost 20 year old tv show is the key to reinvigorating the line

they need to straight up modernize this franchise like all its competitors have done. well, except for GI Joe, I guess.
>>
>>7640573
A hobby shop near me still has a few of these.
>>
>>7641856
And Gi Joe is dead too. The 80's franchises that survived, TMNT and Transformers, are the ones that kept pissing off 80's kids the most.

>>
>>7645279

There's gotta be something more to this origins line. No way can Mattel think people are going to buy MOTU twice after Classics.
>>
I really like the big fish eyes on Mondo's Mer-Man but $170 is waaaay too much for me.
>>
>>7645370
Some people maybe have been put off by the 7in scale. Also if this actually makes it to retail it may reach an audience who didn't know about classics.
>>
>>7645592
I feel like I am yelling into the void when I bring this up to people. There are tons and tons of people out there that have never known about Classics and are shit out of luck getting most of the line for a decent price. Getting a line like Origins onto retail shelves will be huge for general people.
>>
I was fiddling around with some figures from the 200x the other night. I forgot how excited I was over this series. I grew up with the 80s toys and I liked the new style. I wasn't excited about MOTUC though, and didn't get into it until the third or fourth year.

All I have in regards to 200x are Skeletor, Orko, Kobra Khan, Trap Jaw and Two Bad. I used to have basic He-man too, but I damaged it. I was in college when these came out but they make me feel nostalgic.

>>
I want to get into MOTU but I don't know where to start. Should I get vintage, 200X, MOTUC, or something else? If those origin figures do start releasing, I might start with those.
>>
>>7646989
Depends what you want out of the line. I’d say go with whatever style you like best. But if you want an extensive line, nothing is going to come close to the variety of Classics.
>>
>>7647175
I personally like the 200x designs the most. The Classics has the best articulation and a lot of good beasts like Battle Cat and the Griffin. Modulock is great in the Classics line. As is Mantenna. But the vintage line has a lot of charm. I still enjoy the Castle Greyskull set and most of the basic figures from the line, and has the benefit of being huntable in thrift stores if that's your thing.
>>
By the power of caste grayskull, I have all of the powerrrrr!
>>
>>7647175
I just want toys that look good and I can fiddle around with. I mostly like the more scifi looking characters and merman.
>>
>>7647618
Well, Merman is always the best.

I’d suggest to wait a couple days and see what Mattel shows at SDCC. If they do this new vintage style line, it could be up your alley. They’ll have the look of the old figures with better articulation and durability.

If you don’t like what they show, you can always go back and pick up the Classics you like.
>>
>>7647917
That's what I'm thinking. I do like the new head in the origins 2 pack. I just hope any new line digs as deep as classics eventually. I love the new adventures aesthetic.

What the packaged Origins figures will look like
>>
>>7649063
So the mass release probably won't have the vintage style heads?
>>
>>7649063
>Decades after debuting way back in 1982, there have been several attempts to revive those original figures, but starting in 2020, io9 can exclusively reveal that Mattel will release a new Masters of the Universe Origins Line, starting with He-Man and Skeletor.

>The Masters of the Universe Origins Line marks the first time Mattel is revisiting the vintage styling of its original MOTU toys. The new figures still stand about 5.5-inches tall, and feature the same incredibly buff builds and bulging muscles as the ‘80s figuress did, but with some updates made possible by 37 years of advancements in toy manufacturing.

>Children of the ‘80s had to make do with just six points of articulation on their MOTU figures, resulting in some stilted battles between He-Man and Skeletor. But the new Origins line now features 16, allowing He-Man to finally raise his sword high into the air when calling upon the power of Castle Grayskull.
>>
MotU anons, what are your opinions on the Three Towers? Just lore-wise, not in terms of buying the playset (though I'd love a Mega Construx version).
>>
>>7649071
Possibly. It's uncertain until we know more. The line wont be out until 2020, but I'm thinking Mattel will tell us more soon. I can't even see his power sword in the package, but he obviously has that, along with his axe and shield.
>>
>>7649072
>The revamped vintage line also features more details this time around, with improved paint jobs, and even new face sculpts that reflect the equally popular Masters of the Universe ‘80s animated series. But before you fly off into a rage about another toy company dabbling with nostalgia but messing with perfection, Mattel’s created an excellent stop-motion video showing off what Prince Adam and He-Man are now capable of with their newfound flexibility and posability. Take a first look below, debuting here on io9!

>It turns out retro toy fans can have their Eternia cake and eat it too.

>Even the packaging for the new Masters of the Universe Origins line is highly influenced by the original ‘80s figures, with a gratuitous use of shiny metal-effect lettering. Mattel has even created an updated line of mini-comic books that will be included with every Origins line figure—a tactic that originally allowed the toymaker to give the characters it was introducing in the early ‘80s an interesting backstory before the animated series hit the airwaves, but now it just serves as an added and welcome bit of nostalgia.

>>7649063
What scale are these again? If they go for a reasonable price I can really see them being fun little toys.
>>
>>7649077
>The 30+ year wait for He-Man to return to toy store shelves isn’t quite over just yet, however. The figures are being revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 for the first time, but won’t go on sale until Fall 2020, just ahead of the new He-Man movie that’s also en route.

>If you just can’t wait that long, there’s some good news: As part of its SDCC 2019 exclusives, Mattel will actually be selling a He-Man and Prince Adam collectible two-pack featuring the same highly articulated figures as will be included in the 2020 Origins line. The company’s online store appears to be sold out of them at the moment, but if you’ll be at San Diego Comic-Con this week, you’ll have a chance to grab the set at Mattel’s booth.

So we wont have these figures until fall of next year. That's a long ways away.

Unknown. I can't see them in there, but then again I didn't even see the weapons at first. I guess it depends on the price point the new figures are going for. If they're like $10 figures I can't imagine the extra hands being packed in.

Apparently one of the children in their marketing 80s research group (basically a room with some kids who got to play with some early versions of the toys) tried to steal the Skeletor by pocketing it. And that was when Mattel knew they had something big.
>>
>>7649503
If that’s actually true it’s a great story.
>>
>>7649503
Yeah, I saw The Toys that Made Us too. My favorite was when that one black guy(I think he was a sculptor for Toy Biz) described Skeletor as "the toy he had waited his whole life for" Which is such a perfect way of describing him. Just a perfect cool design.
>>
>>7649523
He also said he-man was tan enough to look like his cousin.
>>

Origins will retail at $14.99. More characters to be revealed over the weekend. More vintage toy inspiration than mini comics.

>$14.99
I think that's fair.

>>7649578
I was excited for a mini comic line. Guess I'll have to get that two pack after all.
>>
>>7649560
Holy shit, that’s deep.
>>7649578
Sounds good. Only a bit more than what Funko charges for their Savage World figs, and for more articulation and accessories I don’t mind paying it.
>>
>>7649578
Hopefully the accessory count is respectable. 1-3 extra accessories would be a good start, for He-Man for example his sword, axe, and shield, for Skeletor, his sword and havoc staff, for Man-at-Arms, his blaster and his mace. I'm not really expecting extra hands and heads, but once in a while or for characters that need them, I'd think that's important.
>>
BIG MISTAKE not making these 6-inch instead of 5.5in. They are hoping to capture a new market of kids with the 2020 Movie (which will likely be shit if rumors are true), but really, the Big Dog in the toy aisle is Marvel Legends, and they should have had these playable with them.
I totally get the 5.5in reason but they're going to look like shrimps compared to ML's, which will keep these mostly aimed at collectors.
And please spare me the autistic bitching about what's come before, this will be the first At-Retail line of MOTU in forever, and now with a movie marketing blitz. This would have been the line kids would have mixed in with their Avengers.

Otherwise, I'm happy with the articulation and will be picking a few up. I'm not going to deal with Exclusives and Chase nonsense though.
>>

This is why I think nu-ra should be forced into it's own containment general, they're going to come into this general and piggy back onto us. Their toys are literal dolls, mattel acknowledges them as separate brands, and adam isnt even in nu-ra, let them make their own thread.
>>
>>7650879
>I think nu-ra should be forced into it's own containment general
I agree though it probably wouldn't last because they're so few of them.

>Their toys are literal dolls,
You think those retards even know the difference? They didn't even know their shitty dolls were already released because they don't collect toys. The trannies also tried to leech on the fashion doll thread.

fuck your new show, the original is fine. go be toxic elsewhere if you can't handle boomers kept the fandom alive while you were busy fortnite dancing during recess.

>>
>>7650942
She-Ra will be phased out in a few years while Power Con will go strong with the classic design, classic toys that continue to receive updates, and the Legendary 4 Horsemen giving us great product.

So,what are the chances of getting a Hordak doll in the She Ra line?
>>
>>7650915
Now I know why the teaser shots were all close ups of individual details. The overall design of these are ugly as fuck. The proportions are odd, the expressions look derpy, and the quality of the clothing looks tacky as fuck. 1.5/10 because Catra looks salvageable, maybe.
>>
>>7650879
Fuck containment general. They shit up /co/ too. If the show doesn't get cancelled first, they should get a board like tiny horses did.
>>
>>7650988
Butthurt too much?

>>7650988
>They shit up /co/ too.
They mostly keep bumping their low numbered garabge threads, I didn't see any of their cancer there lately...guess the few of them decided to leech now on /toy/.

>If the show doesn't get cancelled first
I wish and maybe than She-Ra will get the reboot she deserved.

The toys lose some of their appeal without the action features and gimmicks. This was the only line I recall as a child where the gimmicks weren't obtrusive of the figure itself.
