New Group Build!Oddball Color SchemesSo the oddball color schemes won in the poll, so we're gonna run with that. What counts as an oddball color scheme? Stuff like vapor wave, the 90s cup, leopard print, Louis Vitton, or generally anything that's odd.Due by: September 5th.Email to: email@example.com
Some bits of news. HRM God Gundam.
RG Nu has a P-Bandai Double Fin Funnel expansion set. Fairly pricey at 1870円, although minus 432 for waterslides and 540 for an AB5, 898 isn't -too- terrible for an extra set of funnels. Then again you pay another 648 for (flat-rate) shipping, and since most anons here are westerners you fork over even more for middleman fees. Blergh. At least the action base is cool.
Penelope can be broken down into Odysseus, as is usual for Penelope merch. Will be nice and kinda interesting to compare with the old MC Model Penelope.
>>7631258After how good the thicc ass Astray was, I'm hyper excited for this.
Also HGUC Second Victory. 2k yen, P-Bandai.
>>7629812Let me look at the runners tonight; but I have it in EX-S mode so technically I shouldn't need them, I think. I'll let you know soon. What do you plan on doing with it?
>>7631258>HRM god gundamI'm going to beggar myself to own this, fuck
>>7631373Pity it's got the same weirdly thick and bulgy limbs as HiRM AstrayMG God 2.0 when?
>>7631384>MG God 2.0>MG Shining 2.0PLEASE
>>7631267That's just the ver kas action base but red
>>7631384Do you actually own Astray? I thought it looked a bit weird in photos too but I took a chance on it and it might be my favorite kit of all time.
>>7631205there aren't enough kits with effect parts
>>7631631Buy or make your own effect parts
>>7631580Not yet, the $200 price tag puts me off so I'm buying the MG first
>>7631631http://dalong.net/review/bf/bc29/bc29_p.htmHere you go, a kit that is nothing BUT effect parts
>>7631657$200? It's been on sale several times recently at HLJ, and even now at Amazon it's only $115 shipped. Skip the MG, save that money and get the HiRM, it's much more satisfying.
>>7631740I misremembered, Astray Red is only $160 (AU), it's Noir and Barbatos that are $200all on HLJand that's still almost triple the cost of the MG and I doubt it's three times as good
>>7631631True, though the ones in the OP were custom made. I wish they'd do an mg try burbing gundam with effects.
Can replacement runners be ordered? My ARX-8 fell over during the earthquake in CA and the hip joint broke. Unfortunately it’s not a poly cap that my other HG kits readily have spares of.
Anyone collecting the Sangoku SDs?I'm eyeing Ma Chao and Xiahou Yuan
>>7631894Xiahou looks the least ornate but i really like the mohawk
>>7631896Wow, that's remarkable close to the original MS considering how extreme a lot of the other designs in this line are.
>>7631901Yea, it looks cool without going too over the top
>>7631907Shangxiang also a cutie
>>7631289>tfw it wasnt an MGi'm still picking it up asap, but thats still a bit disappointing.
>>7631894too much stuff going on.>>7631896holy jesus, i love non standard gundams.
>>7631908Is that supposed to be G-self?
>>7631925also. what. holy jesus.
All SD look like shit
>>7631931not SDCS with the larger frame
>>7631896He also has a bro... i thinkThough not as cool
>>7631852You can't order spare runners as far as I'm aware, it's been asked. You can always attempt to scratch build it, something like a polycap may not be that hard if it's a small, simple shape. Or perhaps pin the pieces back together with a paper clip and glue, that's often a response to a peg breaking. Have you ever done something like that, anon?
I really like this series
>RX-78 have like 10 version but Zaku II only have 2When will Bandai realized that this kind of racist is not okay and PC?
>>7632100>Zaku II only have 2There's a ton of Zakus what are you on
Question from the past thread.Does BANDAI every improve the quality of kits (such as plastic and fit quality) between reprint?I'm asking this as I'm thinking of buying the RG sinaju and zeta gundam, and I hear they were flawed at release
>>7632115No they typically don't change anything for reprints only exception I can think of is that the new Unicorn MGs all use the new leg and head molds not on the original OVA ver. As for the RG Zeta and Sinanju they are not flawed they are Real grade kits and not toys they can and will break or have parts fall off if mishandled
>>7632119Cool, thanks dude
>>7631928Strike Rouge. G-self is still SD Never.
>>7632112>Recolor count as another versionFuck off
>>7631270I really wish that there was an option to buy Odysseus separately from its armor, cuz that is an insanely steep price to pay for a Gundam that I'm not even 100% keen on.
Not sure if it’s just Sun Quan, but he has no elbows
>>7632265That's pretty standard for SDs. Does it mention anywhere in the manual if it could make use of the Cross Silhouette frame? If so, that'll give it a lot more articulation. There's also a booster set coming out that'll give it even more articulation than the frame does but it'll need either some scratch building or painting to not stand out.
>>7631852Post a pic of the polycap you need (ideally, both a photo of the broken one and the diagram from the instructions). I have a pretty big collection of spares, maybe I'll have something that will fit.
>>7631894>>7631896>>7631908I wish the color separation were a little better on these. I was so hopeful after the nearly sticker-less LegendBB and Cross Silhouette lines. Oh well, Tallgeese still looks rad, will probably buy.
How is Bandai plastic in comparison to Kotobukiya? I'm really not hamfisted, but the only two kits I own are frame arms and both felt rather brittle and have broken at the arm connections. I'll try to be more careful next time, but I have two (newer) Bandai HGs arriving tomorrow and I'm just curious how Bandai's plastic compares on average
>>7632731To me at least, bandai plastic feels much thinner and more fragile, but I dunno about others.
>>7632731>I'm really not hamfisted>broken at the arm connectionsYou're living a lie.
>>7632449As a snapfag they're not that bad out of box. The Astray really impressed me with how well it's color separated. The Providence is seriously the worst out of the first 6 though.
>>7632731In my experience Koto tends to use the same, fairly hard and brittle blend for most PS runners, and make the high-stress parts out of ABS or POM on newer releases.Bandai uses multiple different blends of PS, the stuff they used for the frame on my Nu Ver Ka felt really soft and flexible compared to most Koto stuff but the armor parts are pretty hard.
>>7632731bandai plastic is a pleasant experience compared to koto
>>7631896Why can't they just make a regular SD Tallgeese. Fuck Bandai.
>>7632731Having just built a Lord Impulse from koto's hexa gear line, and the RG crossbone I will tell you that putting koto kits together really does a number on my fingers that I just don't get with Bandai's stuff. Now if only Bandai would make something like the Hexagear stuff I'd be in heaven.
>>7632377Nope, nowhere does the manual mention anything bout CS frames.
>>7633083>le aqueous colourand nothing of value was lost
>>7632841>hard and brittleThis perfectly describe Koto's plastic in my experience.I have 2 Frame Arms myself and the feel of the plastic is similar to Bandai's clear parts.
>>7633083Was anyone even using the stuff? I know it's in Bandai's color guides now, but I've always ignored that and used the closest Mr. Color equivalent.
>>7633165I have a few jars. It's okay for hand painting but trash to spray (even when thinned with their brand thinner).
Hey ex-s backpack anon, can you highlight which parts you want? Imma be lazy on this lol
>>7633198im looking for these parts minus the fuel tanks
>>7633221They're beam cannons
>>7633228you're a beam cannon
>>7633165>>7633129Maybe Bandai will start colorguiding with Tamiya now? That would make it a bit easier to find an analogue. Aqueous had a few colors that didn't have an analogue.
>>7633322>not understanding what was postedLiterally nothing is habbening. One aqueous color gets discontinued as of October, a new color to replace it goes on sale as of November. The end.
>>7632944Chill. Cross Silhouette is really chuggin along, so you may get your wish in the near future.
>>7633083Damn they had the best assortment of clear colors for handbrushing
Any know which color i can use to look like the red part in pic related?I tried mix red brown with red but it just look like poop color.
>>7633373It literally says the current on going 96 colors gonna get replaced
>>7633485red with a touch of blue makes maroon, your welcome.
Kaiser is a really nice little kit, but man those sword stickers are shit
>>7633564why would you buy a chibi shit version of a fucking badass mecha?
>>7633485A good brownish red is Tamiya hull red, usually used for ships. Mr. Color has an equivalent somewhere.
>>7633198>>7633221dang, ghosted again
>>7633564dude, clean your kaiser up. also how bad are the stickers? the sword is out of focus
I'm looking for suggestions for paints and thinner for handpainting. Any suggestions?
>>7633564That sword would be super easy to mask off and the paint silver, just grab your preferred brand and go to town if you don;t want to deal with crummy stickers. Hand painting it will be easy, there should be some Vallejo Model Color or other hand paints at a hobby store near you, even Hobby Lobby carries it.
>>7632159G-Self is never going out of High Grade.
>>7635044well they are making movies of reco in G and they just got a major reprint so its looking good honestly
>>7633221nah my dude, I just got odd work hours and get lazy and don't check for a day. Email me; I got the next three days off to get shit done.

Am I the only one who mangled his fingers building the MG zaku ii 2.0's pipes? I really want to build another zaku but holy hell,
>>7635312I cut my hand alot when building psycho zaku thrusters so i know that feel.
Do RGs and HGs feel as flimsy as HGs? I'm assuming they don't, but who knows. I recently got into building, and while I like it I really don't like the feel of the HG kits once they're complete. They feel really flimsy to me.
>>7635425They are model kits, not toys.
>>7635425>Do HGs feels as flimsy as HGs?Brain farts aside, RGs are a mixed bag, the RX-78-2 and Astray Red for example are worse than most HGs in the stability department, while the Exia is better.
>>7635425>>7635431Fuck, I meant MGs, but you caught my meaning. Any other HGs that you recommend? So far I've built Narrative C-Packs and 00 Sky, and I've got Astaroth, Burning Gundam, and Impulse coming in the mail. Also any recommendation for a smaller panel liner, or one to clean up after using a larger tipped pen?
Why are sanding sticks so hard to find locally? I went into two places (Hobby Town and Hobby Lobby) and the only kind of sanding sticks they had were like 2-300 grit. Might try an art store next.
>>7635439I'd recommend MGs, they're awesome and rock solid. My MG GM 2.0 is the best kit I've ever built
>>7635449nail sanding blocks my dudelook in the manicure section
>>7635312As someone who has yet to build a MG 2.0 Zaku, what exactly is the problem with these things, and how do they hurt people? I see people complaining about the pipes all the time.
>>7635439HGs are arguably more stable than RGs. I find RGs beautiful, but kind of unpleasant to handle and pose. The combination of an extremely tight internal frame and tons of tiny, intricate parts means handling them feels kind of spooky to me. It feels like it's about to fall apart or snap in my hands, even if that's not actually true. HGs, by comparison, tend to be chunky and solid and composed of relatively few parts, so I find them much more pleasant to hold. Of the three grades, HGs are the ones that I would think would survive a shelf dive best.MGs are great. The frames are real nice, the parts aren't as fiddly as RGs because they're bigger, they're just nice all around. Give one a try maybe.>>7635439As for HGs, try a Grimoire, or Zaku F2, or Gustav Karl. Those are some of the most solid kits I own.
>>7635539Bandai made the pipe construction very easy, practically. For each pipe you first cut each of the outer shell (green) and then slide it across the runner over the inner cable (grey).Once all are done, you cut each end of the inner cable and ta-da, you've got the zaku pipe. However, the fit is very tight. You have to really push the pieces across, and it starts to take a toll on your fingers - thumbs especially. In my experience it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, and it was a much more pleasant experience than the standard way of doing pipes, e.g. Marasai, Gouf.
>>7635539Parts that small are a bitch to cut + sand and because it so fucking small, you can accidentally lose your grip and it will fly into another dimension.
>>7634797bruh these are like 27 yuan apieceHope you didnt pay the aliexpress tax on those, because you might as well pay a bit more and get better shit
>>7635312>>7635665>MG Zaku 2.0 pipes>so fucking small>mangled fingersCome on now, you can practically drive a pickup truck through those pipes. Also post WIPs.
>>7635745have my wip pic, concerned about his gold trims whether i mask and spray or go for the old fashioned 0000 brush. also looking into metallic silver rather than gold but i'unno yet
>>7635770>mask and sprayIt looks like you might be able to mask them fairly easily with a liquid. Sprayed metallic >>>>> handpainted metallic.
How's Alclad metal colors? Using Mr.Metallic right now, it's not that good
>>7635811The go to for metallics.
>>7633915Because he'd look cool next to my SoC Kaiser when he's all cleaned up and topcoated. Plus the Scrander is on a 3mm peg so it can easily go on another kit or something when I'm bored and want to fly a FAG around the room or whatever.>>7634901I always make a mess with dust when I file stuff, will definately get him cleaned and do a little more filing in places before I do anything else with him. The stickers for the most part aren't too bad, it's just that the ones for the sword as huge and expect you to neatly fold parts to cover the sides of the blade, and I'm dyspraxic so when it comes to fine movements I'm awful. I hate doing eye stickers for that reason, they're always squiff.>>7635033I'm gonna definately give painting his blade a go, I've got a week off work next week and not a whole lot to do. Haven't actually hand painted anything model-wise before though, just some kits painted by rattlecans a few years back. And the model shop near me doesn't carry Vallejo, just Tamiya, Games Workshop paints and Humbrol. Are Tamiya's bits any good for hand painting? I've got a bunch of their paints from when I was going to get an airbrush a year or two ago and just never got around to it.
>>7635811Considered some of the best looking airbrush metallics on the market. Just keep in mind that their clearcoats (other than aqua gloss) are enamel, not lacquer.
Okay What the fuuckRonsonol is fucking melting my paint right off.I did everything right, I used Tamiya Acrylic, then I varnished it with TS-13 Clear. I waited like a month(for other reasons) and the lighterfluid straight up burns it right off.

Anyone here have experiences with Kotobukiya stuffs, specifically the Armored Core line?Planning on buying the White Glint.
>>7636768I have only built two AC kits, but my experience is that there are a ton of teeny tiny little parts and because of that, some pieces can feel really hand grenade-y. I would definitely invest in some glue to keep from going mad the 35th time a piece pops off.
>>7636768You're going to want glue, and you're going to want to paint it.Unpainted White Glint looks like ass particularly, but you can manage with just detail painting I guess.
>>7636960>>7637011Ah okay, i paint anyway so it's not a problem. When you guys said glue you mean stuffs like Tamiya extra thin cement? Or the super glue kind?
>>7635062Oh god, I want an HG or MG G-Arcane Full Dress now. Hope it truly doesn't suck this time and they properly cut the scenes right.
>>7635770since i posted the first step might as well keep updating my WIP

Are there any HG versions of the GM with a double-jointed knee or a leg/knee section that can do a full bend instead of this 'slightly further than 90-degrees' thing I keep running into? I am trying to do a custom build.
>>7638429Look to the newer ones from the build fighters series
>>7635745working on some light scribing on my snibbs k9
Don't paint your kits, you will regret it.
>>7636768>White GlintThe first question you need to ask yourself is: "Where the fuck am I going to put it after I assemble it?". If you don't have a display case or some kind of dust-proof enclosure that is big enough you might as well put it in the trash because you're going to ruin it anyway the first time you try to dust it.
Hey guys I'm pretty new to collecting gunpla. I've got an HG RX-79 Ground Type, Char's Zaku from Origin, and an RG Astray with my friend who does detailing, plus I picked up a Zaku with the Big Gun set from thunderbolt, and an RX-78-2 from Origin. My question is, I'd like to keep collecting but idk where to start. I'd mostly like to collect kits that are more tacticool than they are flashy, with a lot of accessories. Can you guys point me to those?

>>7638722I freaking love the gernsback.
Here's some of my parts after painting, is this texture normal after curing and will go away with topcoat or am i doing something wrong? It's not bumpy or sandy when touched, smooth infact
>>7635312It is a right of passage among gunpla enthusiasts. You aren't a real man until your fingers bleed all over your Zaku II.
>>7638938>am i doing something wrongusually a combination of wrong pressure, wrong spraying distance and possibly wrong thinning ratioshit dried before it had a chance to level

>>7639012how about you go fill in those sinkholes while you're at it?
>>7639050byproduct of plastic molding, they trigger my autism
>>7639066that's some industrial strength you have therethere are molding defects and ejector pins that must be fixed, but these are so slight he would have to drill actual holes into the plastic for the filling putty to hold
>>7639080In which case you could simply sand them down, or apply unthinned surfacer to fill it upIf I'm going to paint the kit I might as well make sure it looks good.
>>7639066Lmao, anon, those are just chipping and dust, not actual holes..My camera is kinda shitty and can't capture small stuffs right.
>>7639066That looks more like a funny reflection than a depth issue in the plastic. Bandai's plastic quality is pretty impressive, that stuff is exceedingly rare.
>>7639101No, there are low spots in the plastic aka sink marks, not actual holes>>7639164Nah, check dalong's pics.Sure, bandai is pretty good about it, but they're still there, albeit shallow. You'll find them on big or complex parts usually, for example the HG GNX had pretty noticable ones along the X binders.

Has anyone ordered kits off of yahoo japan auctions? Due to some errors I have 90ish dollars deposited on zenmarket and wanted to get some stuff for the group builds.
>>7639708Most of the time it's not worth it unless the kit is ultra-rare or someone is dumping a bunch of kits in one lot for cheap (but be prepared to pay shipping for shit you don't want).I'm pretty sure you can get your money back from Zenmarket.
>>7639007So in summary it's the bad base coat's fault right, does bad priming play a role? I asked because there's some pieces i only primed and haven't paint yet, don't know if i should prime it again
How hard is starting with a MG kit? I kinda spaghettied at my local hobby store when i went to get tools for it and saw my favorite gundam and the one I wanted to start with, Guncannon. I planned on ordering the HG off amazon but there was one right there for the same price, so I bought it without another glance, I was so excited. Now I'm stuck with this kit I really want to do but I'm afraid to fuck up panel lining and the stickers. Has anyone done this kit before, and how intense is it? I fucking love guncannon and want to do it justice
>>7639872read the guide you fucker
>>7639877I did, I get its just more parts im just wondering how long/intricate it is cause I don't want to be burnt out by the first gundam i build
>>7639872Its not really any worse, just more time consuming. If you just want to snap together you can still build it within a few hours. Additional steps add more time, filling seams, sanding, repainting, panel lining, etc. If you are new to model kits, it might pay to watch a tutorial on youtube. You can hurt yourself on a runner/sprue, if you use a hobby knife, you will eventually cut yourself.
>>7639885Looks like an older MG, so it shouldn't even be that long of a build.
>>7639819>does bad priming play a rolein orange peel? noofc if your priming in uneven your base coat will not be smooth either
>>7639930Ah fuck it, i will redo everything after i get a better compressor.
Got a couple Cross Silhouette questions;Do the Zeromaru kits come with an actual cs frame? I saw a video on the crossbone where they used the red frame from the Zeromaru kit. Also, does anyone have the newish tall booster frame and the Nightingale? I want to know if it looks janky or not.The line looks cool to collect but I don't know which frame I should get.
>>7639951>Do the Zeromaru kits come with an actual cs frameYes.

>>7639872Mg's are no different than HGs in terms of how you put them together. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
>>7636768They have so many tiny fucking parts jutting out in all directions that its almost impossible to even find a place to hold them.

Finished building the FAG Greifan. If anyone is interested in buying one, don't panel line it with pour type Gundam marker, go for Vallejo wash or something similar. Other than that the only major issue is how finicky it is (like everything Kotobukiya makes). Getting it into the weird chicken strider mode was pretty simple, but actually getting her to sit there is a pain in the ass. Also I want to figure out what MSG weapons would look good here. Other than the bulky arms (as cool as they are), feels a bit lacking.More pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/mfpa000

>>7641485Yep, quite a few Koto kits and a few Bandai here and there.
>>7641245If she has room on the back/shoulders, I'd strap a few of the MSG 39 ship cannons on there. Also, missile pods on the outside of the big forearms would look nice.

I need more gold markers for this line
>>7641978this serie is so overly dressed and encumbered from articulations. If only they made them compatible with SDCS frames
Is this kit actually any good? I wanted to get it for a friend's birthday but its a bit expensive and if its quality is suspect i'd rather get him a different PG.
Fuck i just cut my finger, blood is everywhere bros.....
>>7641993The biggest problem is the skirt armor. It's often so elaborate it gets in the way of the arms AND legs.
>>7642090You ain't got time to bleed
>>7642090now add some sweat and tears, bam, you've put everything into your gunpla
>>7642090Ive been there, bled all over the instructions. Memories for later i guess
>>7642021If you are going to restrict yourself to only "the best the line has to offer", it would be the MK-II hands down.
>>7641993You'd think making them SDCS would be more profitable anyway because of the "mix and match" and customization elements that the frame brings.
Bandai's new cheap 30 minute mission kits are surprisingly good for their price, they've got refined versions of the HGAC Leo's joints and look like skinny GM-esque MP suits. Also their neck joint can take Gundam heads, I mixed a blue torso onto my white kit and stuck a Shinking Break's spare head on it and it looks hilariously Gundam-like.
>>7641978>>7641993Where do you guys get these kits from? Amico and HS don’t have them.
>>7642327>>7642410I really hope my order actually ships since I preordered so late.
>>7642347i'm buying them locally
Minipla ok here?
>>7642522It's plamo, so yes
>>7642090It's a blood sacrifice to the gunpla god. Your kit has been blessed.
These legs are slapping together pretty well all things considered.
Put together the violence ram and tried a few things. This and the next picture are the same attachment method just with different barrel lengths.I didn't do anything with the spear points because those needed paint.
Right now I'm leaning toward this attachment method and barrel length. The ram is surprisingly heavy so Greifen's arms flop a bit.
And this is definitely the most boring method of attachment. It balances a bit better with long barrels or short though.
I'd like to see this get an anime accurate master grade in the near future. I don't like the changes the ver. ka edition made.
>>7642860you're not painting her?
>>7643071No, I paint very few kits anymore.
So is it normal for Premium Bandai US to charge over $30 for shipping? This seems insane.Admittedly I wasn't buying in this case, but seems the best place to ask.
I lost my nippers and I was thinking about buying pic related. Does anyone have experience with it? I've found nothing that comes even close when looking up online.
>>7643221overpriced even in CAD man. you shouldnt pay more than 65 shipped CAD realistically. and on top of that god hands while good are overblown honestly. just get any sharp edge nipper and then clean up the nub like normal.https://www.amazon.ca/Tamiya-Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter/dp/B000J47Z4G/ref=sr_1_20?keywords=nipper+model&qid=1563147673&s=gateway&sr=8-20
>>7643256Thank you fren.
>>7642969If only. Unfortunately it's pretty unlikely. Personally my biggest gripe is the shield looks like shit on the Proto Zero, I can handle the other changes.
>>7643256I bought these
>>7643193They ship from HK so that's pretty normal. It's flat rate though so it's slightly better if you ship bigger items.
Hey Gunpla, so i just finished the RG Sazabi and holy shit does he look amazing as soon as you finish up the decals. i Have 2 questions thou, what,if any type of top coat would you guys recommend ? And second,im looking for a clear wire that i can use to make his funnels look like there flying around, something like the bendible black wire that came with the RG astray goldframe but clear, any suggestions?
>>7642410>>7642414So how's this line?
>>7643256Yea,those are just too damn much. Call me a casual but i bought a pair at hobby lobby 4 twenty bucks and they work great
So for anyone who has built the Evangelion Kotobukiya kits; do you have the replacement parts post card that comes with the manual? Mine was tossed by my room mate, and I'm willing to pay just to get a copy. I fucking hate seeing my Eva 13 in pieces.
>>7643221>I've found nothing that comes even close when looking up online.why do u lie to us anon
>>7643221just get a pn120
>>7641245Wow I didn't know FAGs actually looked(or could look) that good. Might have to pick one up.
After you guys panel-line, do you normally do another gloss coat before stickers or just go for it?
>>7643963stickers->glosscoat->panel line for mesome stickers require lining, like say, the edges of a Gm's visor.
>>7643814Yeah, working full time is pretty rough on this hobby if you also have other hobbies.>>7643958Honestly even Gourai looks pretty solid out of the box. Just browse through dalong and pick one really, none of them are genuinely awful.
>>7643969Dosnt topcoating the stickers help to hide the sticker edges as well?
>>7644360You've clearly never known anything other than stickered straight builds with no more effort than lifting your finger and it shows
>>7644360Quite the opposite, topcoat, esp gloss ones, will highlight the edges when it reflects light.
Are the Pokemon Plamo a good choice for beginners? I've never assembled a plastic model before.
>>7641245Greifan really is my favorite of all the FAGs. The girl is a nice design, cute without being pure weeb body pillow onahole cancer, and the mecha stuff is literally the only FAG that seems to have actually considered the concept whatsoever. All the others are just like...here is an anime thot and we stapled some random mecha bits to her, where as this one is a legit well thought out incorporation of the idea of a girl mixed with a mech. its just too bad the actual design means her posability in the combined mode is super limited.
Just finished building my first MG kit and it's come with wet transfer decals, was going to buy some Mr Mark Softer for them.Is adding a topcoat over the whole thing worthwhile? Never done it before and I've got no idea what I'm doing, can I get some advice? (yes, I read the thread guide)
>>7644624Ok that depends. Here's the irony of plastic models: The shit aimed at beginners and kids is the shit that needs the most work and talent to actually make look good. Your standard MG gundam kit will look perfectly fine just out of the box assembled. No paint, no panel lining and it will still be a fine model, especially the newer ones. But something like pokemon plamo or the one piece ships or the Sargent frog stuff are very cheap and simple to build but are massively reliant on stickers and generally just look very cheap and shitty unless you do extensive detailing and painting. I've made a huge variety of kits and this is my advice1. Almost any kit is fine to start with, especially kits from the last 5 years or so. Model kits are not hard to make For price considerations, a gundam HG is a good choice but MG's are not that much more expensive and are honestly more fun to put together.2. Bigger and more expensive kits are generally no more complex than smaller ones in terms of the actual mechanics of putting them together. They just have more parts and detail3. For your first models I suggest sticking with Bandai. Bandai is by no means the "Best" but their models tend to be the most user friendly overall. Kotobukiya has some neat stuff but they often have a lot of little parts, very tight tolerances, and are generally just not as easy for a first time modeler to do. Albeit I did a Koto kit as my third kit so its not THAT bad.
>>7644781how about you work on the nubs first
>>7644830Was going to get round to them, just wanted to build the damn thing since it's been sitting around for the past 3 years
>>7644367you fuck, read my first post,im literally asking wat coat to use on this particular build, ive coated pleanty. Also, wondering about the question related to where i can find clear wires for the funnels. Your fucking useless, dont try that high n mighty shit on me, ive done pleanty. Just asking for a opinion you smelly smegma dick, jesus fuck
>>7644781Honestly a few decals can make a huge diffrence, throw some on,it looks ok but i find decals, sticker or not, makes a huge difference. But yea to your first point, defentally be careful with the sides
>>7644777I agree. I think my only criticism of her is that all her colors are too desaturated, nothing pops. I get that it's a pastel palette, but they went a little too far in my opinion. Guess I'm gonna have to paint when I get around to building mine.
Do you lads have any suggestions for a fix for Tri Burning Gundams shoulder poly caps? The ball joint barely fits in and his arms pop off at the slightest touch. It's a shame because otherwise he's perfect. Also, any recommendations for other hand-to-hand HGs?
>>7644971some white glue on the ball joints
>>7633373yeah; i was afraid for a moment, I have been using the mr Hobby colors so far with great results
>>7644998So what,am i meme now? Just answer my questions twat, ffs your worse then /m/
So I've had master grade red frame for years and always wondered about something. The kit has pieces to make a second pair of toes that have a hidden knife but they don't have the same ports for the panel that covers the toes. What are those for?
>>7645048You get cranky when you stay up past your bedtime.
>>7645169No noo.... I just want someone to give me a real answer is all anon, can you do that 4 me? Im not new to this, its just that sazabi looks great to me. Also, im looking for clear thin bendible plastic 4 the funnels, can you help or you just gonna shitpost.. I dont wannd go reddit to find out because i thought the ammounts of cunts is lower here.

Anyone here know how to not to get orange peel when painting?
>>7647490Shorter spray bursts, longer distance away from the model, do it in a place with low humidity, and be aware that some brands are just prone to orange peeling(I've never been able to use Testors top coat without getting orange peeling). Also Semi Gloss and Flat will sometimes orange peel on application but may flatten out as it dries and cures so let your top coat dry between coats if you're noticing orange peeling.
>>7647516I'm super fucking guilty of spraying too close.
>>7640584I also like Blue Zaku. The version from the zero eighth MS Team.
>>7647516>longer distance away from the modelSo the paint has a better chance to dry on the way to the surface? How does that help against orange peel exactly? The problem of orange peel is the problem of paint drying prematurely and/or non-uniformly.Perfectly wet coat will never produce orange peel (unless the paint is trash). Spraying from short distance is more likely to result in a wet coat.>>7647490Properly thinned paint, retarder, good spraying technique (which comes with lots of practice).
How much PSI do you guys use for pre-shade?Speaking of shading, which one is better for subtle shade, preshade or highlighting?
>>7647521So am I, but I don't get orange peel too often. Honestly I don't thin the same way consistently, I never count drops to get a particular ratio, I just add thinner until I get a milky consistency. Sometimes it may be 45:55, other times 55:45. Things usually turn out okay. My biggest problem is dust settling into the paint between coats.
>>7643466They're fun little bastards. Really cheap, generic looks make it easy to army build, they use the same 3mm plugs (I'm pretty sure it's 3mm) for attaching pretty much everything, so they're very customizable right out of the box. You will need multiples of stuff to do some of the more creative things you might see online. I picked up 2 Altos, some weapon packs, and one each of the current available armor. Honestly, I want more armor for these guys, I the close combat shield on as a side skirt, and I'd like one on the other side as well. If you're curious, definitely drop 25 bucks on an Alto, a couple armor packs, and a weapon pack. Oh, and last note, you can actually build them in 30 minutes. My first one took 34 minutes, the second one took 27.
>>7647873>How much PSI do you guys use for pre-shadePreshading is for casuals. Black basing is where it's at.
>>7647890>Black basingWhat a weird looking aesthetic desu
When i spray my paint, sometime in the middle of it, there're small little drop of paint spit out on to my plastic.I have to wipe it off, what's up with that?
>>7647881I deal with the dust by leaving the parts to dry in my spray booth. My spray booth is also massive though so that might not be possible for everyone. If not you could just get a sterilite container and poke some holes in the sides though.
>>7647638Whenever I've had orange peeling, pulling away has improved the finish. So maybe it would be more accurate to say "adjust your angle and distance as necessary"?
with the success of buzz, imagine if we get all these variants of himhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRCgQC4Ilm0
IBO baby here, what are some other kits i should pick up, so far ive built gusion rebake full city, 1/100 vidar, and 1/144 barbatosive heard the 1/100 barbatos lupus is one of the best kits from the entire IBO lineim thinking of lupus or rex for my next kit
>>76492591/100 Graze, Schwalbe Graze and Ground Type Graze.
>>7649259Wait for all the stuffs they will done with this new IBO frame.
>>7649259In my opinion the 1/100 Grimgerde far surpasses the barbatos.
>>7650201This, just flip the face guard upside down and it's perfect
>>76502011/100 Grimgerde a shit, they fucked up the long elegant proportions of the HG and made it look gawky and awkward.
>>7650307Is that the MG? that looks like quite a bigger sword than the one he comes with.
>>7650542There is no MG Grimgerde. And that's just the normal sword it comes with. Maybe you're getting thrown off proportionally because this Grimgerde is modified? Shoulders and faceplate are flipped, hands swapped out, feet swapped, some panels removed.
>>7650715there's no MG but there is a 1/100 scale kit like that anon said
rip kyo ani. send your thoughts and prayers
>>7650721fuck off with that off topic shit
>>7650715>Maybe you're getting thrown off proportionallyThat's definitely possible, but check out that handle though, the photo anon posted is way longer, and has a slightly different pommel.
>>7652125Ah, you're right, it was so close looking to default that I didn't notice the longer handle and pommel.
>>7646057>Blow out soon StalkerI can never not think of this screencap when I hear that.
I live in NZ which has an import law where goods under $400 value dont get taxed. Ive never ever been charged additionally when using EMS which I have done for years. Ive always been careful to have the total value of my orders be well under $400 total. HLJ have a new deal with DHL which makes them significantly cheaper than EMS. Decide to try it out to save some money (total value of shipment is just below $300). Wake up to an email today that customs is holding my package & charging me $198 to let it in. WTF did DHL do? so pissed off I decided to use them over EMS which Ive never had a problem with. Anyone else in New Zealand been fucked over by any similar charges? I'm trying to dispute it at the moment and dont seem to be getting anywhere over the phone. fuck DHL.
>>7653132Hmm, what happens if you don't accept the charge? Would it get sent back to HLJ and then you could re-ship it with EMS instead? I don't know if that would work, but if it did it'd certainly be cheaper I think.
>>7647887The problem is most are ugly as sin and combining them doesn't help that much. They all look way over-designed and busy.
>Pop open the box for Lucifer's Wing>Dig out the instruction manual>It feels almost like an actual bookHaha. Ha...
>>7652875I don't know how the sword is constructed, but it could just some kitbashed handle. Blade looks pretty much the same.
>>7654042Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy plamo and have been doing it nearly my entire life, but sometimes looking at a huge manual and dozens of runners just makes me sigh in dismay. It won't be an unenjoyable ride, but it will be a long and sometimes grueling one.
>>7654266>huge manual and dozens of runnersvs>two page manual and 3 sheets of photo-etchNigger, I don't think you realize how good you have it.
Hey, I'm repurposing some old gundams that got busted up. What would be the best way to get them looking presentable again? Could I just cement the pieces back together, spread some tamiya putty over the crack, and sand that shit smooth, or should I make a jar of melted plastic goo and seam weld it?
>>7654580Make them battle damaged wreckage! Fuck yeah!
What are some other kits that will sate my battle-damage autism
>>7654651>take a trip to your local chink fireworks store>get some cheap small fireworks>wrap your gundam in them>light the fuse>take cover>????>instant ultra-realistic battle damage
What brand of nippers can I buy for like $20 ish that aren't shit? I'm new to gunpla and tried using some nippers I got for like 7 bucks, but they're shit and keep slipping when I try to cut parts off the runner. But when I google around for recommendations, everyone seems to recommend $50 God Hands and I'm not really sure I want to throw down that much money at the moment. Should I suck it up and just get some of those or is there something slightly more affordable?
>>7655525If you want to make do, just grab some Xurons.
>>7655525Most things in that range are pretty close together. Just buy a single blade nipper for 20-30 and you won't be much better or worse than anything else. Lower, buy Xurons that will maul your shit but last until the end of time, higher, buy Memehands that will require a bit of delicacy and another pair of nippers on the side anyway.
