Ask in the evangelion thread newfag.
>>
Metal Build 01.

And no, I don't care about show accuracy.
>>
>>7617959
If you got into it because of Netflix, I would recommend you instead watch the original sub/dub. The og VA's and translation are far superior.

Also, post in the Eva Toys thread next time, newfag

lol my bad guys my bad

>>7617970
i did just get into it due to netflix. i'm currently on episode 2, what are the big changes before it's too late?
>>
>>7617980
Don't know much about the new voices but watching Evangelion for the first time and being unable to listen the ending song is ridiculous. Just download the show.
>>
>>7617984
can you point me in the direction of the original dubs, please?

>>
>>7617970
The new subs are that bad? That's a shame, I was planning on watching it.
>>
>>7617961
Yup. It looks great and Revoltechs have the best articulation in the market.

>>7617965
Overpriced.
>>
>>7617995
Also I'm trolling. Not to start another Revo-War, and I don't know which is the best reasonably priced yet good version of Eva 01 on the market right now, but the Revoltech is certainly not it. Maybe the Robot Spirits? I dunno.
>>

This feels like bait at this point

>>7617995
>>7617998
are there bootlegs of the revo i'll have to worry about?
>>7618014
its not
>>
>>7617959
I've own both Revos and the robot spirits and honestly the robot spirits were the best. It's just they've only released unit 00-03,awakening and 02 beast. And outside 01 and 02 the rest are super expensive. I ended up selling them a sticking with the eva evo revos(which are not bad at all)because the kept making all the new ones. Robot Spirits stopped after awakening and beast.

you have to understand that for almost as long as /toy/ has been around we get a "what is the best eva unit 01 figure" thread about once a month

if you want the tv look, revoltech is the cheapest, the latest kotobukiya model kit is the most accurate (but its a model kit, so) and the chogokin is the big boy deluxe spender. if you want the rebuild look, best bet is the robot damashii one (pic related) but good luck getting it for cheap
>>
>>7618185
oh shit i'm sorry about that. i've been on /toy/ for like a year now and i'd never noticed the eva threads. definitely want the TV look. aren't there multiple chogokins?
>>
Almost all the good shit is based off the rebuild designs, which really lack the broad shoulder width of the TV series designs.

Where is this meme coming from? Everything in the new Netflix translation from the subtitle track to the dub actors were approved by Studio Khara.

And the original ADV dub was fucking trash! I can't believe people are defending it. I swear I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
>>

The rebuild designs have a different color mid torso armor piece. The original TV versions are more monochromatic. The TV versions are better in every way I think.

I still like my RD Unit 01 but I can't wait for the RAH reissue in November. It was a mistake to pass it up the first time.

>>7618288
For the anime ones, I think your only good options are the recent model kits (I think by Kotobukiya?) and Soul of Chogokin SPEC.

I have the XS-01R Eva-01 and she's pretty good, just wish she had a matte coat.

Having a look around for all those Eva 00 figures for the collage above reminded me of how bummed I am that they didn't do the blue unit in the Rebuild movies, the yellow one just doesn't have the same pizzazz to me.
>>
Was there EVER a decent figure of the TV/Zeruel fight version of berserk mode? It's pretty much how I see Eva 01 mentally and all I have is the tamashii spec one which isn't really capable of pulling off the poses.
>>
>>7618373
Yeah the yellow version just looks like it's WIP to me. I always saw it as construction gear colors, since it was still being worked on until it got the blue paint job.

I really dislike anime and just want to talk about the toys. That's all that matters.
>>
>>7617959
If you play with your toys, Robot Damashii
If you only display them, SOC Spec
Everything else is either shitty quality or shitty looking. Don't trust the promo pics.
>>
>>7617959
Good luck, some of the figures can be up to 23 years old.
>>
>>7618515
From reading a bunch of stuff about it, it seems to me that mainly it’s an issue of localisation (changing the words but keeping the meaning) vs translation (keeping the words but loosing some of the meaning).

1997 version is more localised, dialogue is more changed from the original, but that let them maybe better preserve the meaning of what was being said.

2019 is more a direct translation, so it’s more faithful, but because of that you loose some of the nuance because some things can’t be translated to english, see the “I’m the lowest of the low/this is so fucked up” scene.
>>
>>7618638
Honestly, the scene still felt massively gay to me. I didn't think it lost any of it's meaning and actually came off as a little less blunt which I appreciated. Now they definitely should've kept the I'm so fucked up line. Overall I liked the new dub. Nothing to get offended at.

How does this relate to children's toys on this blue board of ours? Stop spreading this nonsense here, no one gives a fuck about the show.
>>
>>7618650
Fuck off Ahmed. We're talking about the source material. You're free to leave.

Also, how many children are playing with expensive toys/models of giant killer robot death mommies?
>>
>>7618659
>We're talking about the source material

which is bad and dumb unlike the toys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5RLPi0RKzA
This video is better than your dumb stupid children's cartoon because its about a toy and not some imaginary waifu you dumb neets kill each other over because of what color they prefer. fuck the anime, long live the free reign of children's toys on this blue board of ours
>>
>>7618660
Why are you even in this thread if you don't like the source material?
>>
>>7618659
Why is it this scene from One Hour Photo has more depth than anything Evangelion shat out? Oh right! Because its literally about a children's toy that a child wanted but the cheating father didn't want hence why Robbin Rip in Peace Williams took vengeance like the good guy he is.
>>
>>7618664
Why the fuck does anyone have to give a shit about the source material when it comes to children's toys? Are you that much of a Eric Butts you cry yourself to sleep over dumb movie trailers and end up on tv for getting bullied about it on social media sites? You truly are a corporate drone over shallow media and not truly caring about the first rule of this board, none of which it ever states anything outside the name of what this board is.

Yet you fucks made threads and stickys about oh so terrible homo erasure because of mistranslations. You're right, Netflix were the geniuses and should have spent all that money on redubbing instead of promoting the new children's toys that are coming out given how Bandai has a vested interested in this lucrative property. Shame about that dumb fly me to the moon song not being used, now tell me how its bad some dumb Frank Sinatra song not being used is a orange man bad thing

I already told you. I. Don't. Know. Nor do I really care. Just expect natural conversation to sometimes move towards the source material when discussing product from said source material. >>
>>7618754
Dude, discussing product from a franchise is going to lead to some discussion of said franchise. If you can't accept that, the I don't know man, grow up? Kill yourself? I don't care. Just do something other than repeat the same thing over and over and over again.

>>
>>7618787
When I come here, yes. As per rule 1. That is all that matters on /toy/. How else can I get advice for what my tiny pony toys I can buy for my two daughters, inshalla they grow beautiful everyday.
>>
>>7618792
Shit, nevermind, I just realized I'm posting a statue in /toy/. It's not articulated. Sorry all.
>>

Technically you're not talking about toys. You're talking about the rules and are therefore breaking rule 1. Rule 1 anon. Rule 1.

Back on topic. So I'm fucked if I want an anime version Eva? Shitty. With Netflix re airing the original series, do you think we'll get a modern figure of the anime version?
>>
>>7618784
This. Huge, huge fan of the show myself, but fuck I hate meeting other "Eva fans." It's attracted all the obnoxious edgelord emo fags and their camgirl girlfriends with daddy issues in recent years, and they perpetuate this "it's all about the ANGST and the DARKNESS" and it's like, will you fuck off already?

They are the same, when I bought mine it was commonly referred to as SoC. When I'm home I can give reference photos of the XS-01R if you like. I'm actually considering selling it to trade up for the RAH reissue since I've been moving to 1/6 scale lately.
>>
>>7619471

>>7619468
i can afford it yeah, i'm the dude tied between the 3 listed earlier. revoltech seems fun, model kit is least expensive, SOC seems to be most accurate
>>
>>7619485
I've owned all three you listed. My personal favorite is honestly the Kotobukiya kit. Most poseable, relatively accurate at a glance without comparative photos, and is an easy build and easy to paint. My only complaint is Koto's joints are made of fucking paper. They won't sell me replacement joints for my Unit 13 which boils my shit.

Revoltech is pretty good, but any Revol figure I end up grabbing gets the least amount of attention. Dunno why, it's just there. I like it, but reach for the XS-01R or the Koto first when I'm bored at my desk.
>>
>>7619487
i'm not a big fan of having to paint my own figures because i'll become obsessive with making it perfect. looks like getting the SOC xs-01r or the revoltech will be my best options. would love to see some good photos

I'm only halfway through my bi-monthly cleaning; don't mind the minor mess.I also just got home from a long ass day and I'm lazy as fuck to do better poses. I had the OG Revo release, but four of the joints straight up rotted (it was my FIRST collectible figure when I was much younger so I didn't care for it) so I tossed it. I only have 02 The Beast for comparison, which isn't fair since the proportions are all fucked.

Flat finish: Kotobukiya 01 Kit
Gloss: SoC XS-01R

The Koto kit his minimal paint apps I added, so its like 95" out of the box built. Let me know if you want specifics.

I personally prefer the TV designs and proportions but I do like the Rebuild colours, especially on 02. 00 looks better in blue for sure but if she had the extra white on her like 02 in Rebuild she'd look really nice.

FWIW the Revoltech EvaEvos, whilst not very accurate, are probably some of my favourite designs for the Evas, they have that toned and dynamic look from the TV with the Rebuild colours- if the shoulder pylons were bigger then I'd call them the perfect Eva designs.
>>
>>7620141
Rebuild 00
TV 01
EoE 02

I really like the yellow, bandages, and missile for rebuild 00.

I want to see all evas in EoE proportions.

Do you think we'll finally get TV versions of the EVAs with proper proportions when the netflix rerelease renews interest in the series?

Highly doubtful considering Anno has stated that he's returned to work on 3.0+1.0. We're gonna get a rush of new/refreshed Eva designs from the usual companies.

That being said, 2020 will be the 25 year anniversary, so there's some chance something might come out for it.

Sure no prob. I think that's pretty much every TV eva version made. Only thing I didn't mention originally is Kaiyodo made two versions of Unit 02 for both their Xebec and Revoltech lines, the TV version and the EOE version, the Xebec figure pictured is the TV version the Revoltech figure pictured is the EOE version. Not a big issue but I just realized it looking over all of them.

>the subs are an atrocity
I'm so fucking tired of this lie. ADV's subs were an atrocity. The Netflix version uses a more literal and correct translation. People are fucking whining to whine about anything and everything, but there is no issue with the translation. Shinji is the lowest of the low. Rei is not your doll. Kaworu never said "love". Children is exactly what the Japanese cast SAYS the entire series. We pronounce Evangelion based on how they say it so why is "children" incorrect when it seems to consider the pairing of child and Eva unit?

Fucking give up whining about the subs. The subs are fine on Netflix. OMFG, there's no swearing. Guess what, there actually wasn't. That's another addition from ADV's poor translation.

And the rebuilds may be a statement about ignoring what anno was trying to tell you about reaching out to people in the real world even if it's frightening. A lot of people used eva to dive deeper into escapism, so he may just be trolling you we'll see.

Gee thanks a lot EVA for popularizing a ton of shitty trends in anime to come.
>popularized cruel deconstructions of classic genres

God EVA sure was influential to escapist otaku pandering anime in general.

I definitely prefer Gainax when it's their uplifting, OTTP action packed material such as Gunbuster and TTGL. That being said, Wings of Honneamise is a landmark achievement of anime film and is my favorite Gainax work by a long mile.
>>
>>7630403
I'm kinda hoping that the inevitable twist is something so out of left field that it somehow redeems the shitshow that was Q. Like, if halfway through the movie it suddenly turns into Puchi Eva (complete with squeaking gibberish voices and Evancho) and the ending sequence is a live-action ad-libbed screwball comedy with the voice actors in cosplay and Anno and friends doing toku mecha action ala Ultraman Returns. Which to be fair I could actually see happening, as IIRC when he's not depressed Anno is a massive goofball (see After The End where he briefly makes a cameo as the big bad in one of the attempts at a reboot).

I've not read the thread, but I've known Eva a while, so I can give good advice. First, you have to ask yourself, TV or Rebuild designs.

For TV Designs, the Soul of Chogokin Spec are the best choice, bar none. Accessories, details, articulation, accuracy to line art. It all depends though on if you can find them for reasonable prices, I suggest lurking on Jungle Hobby or Mandarake for a while. The regular Soul of Chogokins can be a cheaper option. Try and get the renewal version of the Eva 01 Spec if you can, the first release had some fragility issues and couldn't raise its head well. If you prefer the thinner aesthetic the TV Evas often took, the Kotobukiya model kits are better, but those are model kits which are going to require some painting for all the details. Revoltechs are cheap and fun and can do all the poses you want, they're Revoltechs. Just don't expect tremendous line art accuracy. The Bandai model kits are old and trash, don't buy them unless you're happy with statues. One downside to collecting the TV series Evas is there are no mainline releases above 18-22cm tall, barring the crappy old Perfect Grade kit and a very difficult garage kit called Technique Impossible.

The advantage of the Rebuild Evas is that there's more options. You have the Real Action Heroes NEO version, which they're rereleasing now, and is nearly 40 cm tall. Not bad as a centerpiece. MAFEX is available for a middle ground scale, as are the Rebuild kotobukiya kits. On the smaller end you have the Robot Spirits versions, which are very articulate and quite accurate to the movies, and you have the revoltechs, also highly articulate but very stylized. While it will be easier to find everything you want if you collect rebuild Evas, it will likely also be more expensive, as the prices on Japanese collectibles have increased considerably.
>>
>>7628658
>not liking the only good and original design in Rebuild crap

The non spec SoC are so inferior than the spec ones that I guess they weren't worth mentioning.

The old ones were good when they came out, but right now they're simply overpriced for what they give you. The only advantage of the old line is that they also had 03 and 04, but since they don't scale with the new ones, there's no point in considering them, IMO.

I own the spec ones (both 00s, 01 and 02) and they're amazing. But I'm thinking of reselling them because they simply don't fit with everything else I own.
Oh also, 01 and 02 are quite overpriced in the aftermarket.

I watched the show years ago. But I also rewatched on Netflix and got to show my roommate it for the first time. My roommate is computer illiterate and I doubt he'd even know where to look for the show online.

Yeah. Which is sad.

Did the Eva RDs not sell well? I remember the Beast being on sale a lot, but have a hard time thinking they couldn't make bank from tv versions. There's obviously still a market for evas in general.

Bandai's decisions often seem so arbitrary and mysterious.
>>
>>7670675
Bandai's relations with Eva seems odd. They have all the money so I don't see why they don't pump out figures and plamo of all shapes and sizes constantly. Evas, pilots, and Angels. One reason I can think of is they want to focus on IPs they own (or practically own). So Gainax related IPs are more of the outsiders. Kaiyodo on the other hand is tight with Gainax and continues to focus on Eva figures, so it could be one of the rare times Bandai decided it's not worth to compete. Koto is doing the kits as well. Bandai's latest Evas also seems to be purposefully different, big headed versions or expensive diecast originals, something the other companies are not likely to make.

Got this oldie off of eBay for about $60 shipped from Canada. What am I in for?

Probably sticky plastic from plasticizer leakage.
>>
>>7671081
it was mint in the box, if that'd help that
>>
>>7672457
Doesn't matter. If it leaks it leaks.
>>
>>7672571
what would cause it to leak?
>>
>>7677237
It's really up to the mixture of the plastic. Nothing really "turns" a non leaking plastic into a leaking plastic. Some environmental factors might make it worse like temperature, maybe humidity?

I don't know if that particular revoltech leaks plasticizer, but it was a common problem in the early years.

I hate the fact that these will be needlessly expensive. Had these been made 5 or 6 years ago they would probably retail for less than $200 but I wouldn’t be surprised if they sold for twice as much when they finally get released.

what stands work with the bandai honby hg kits????? they cant stand on their own.

Just got the rebuild 2.0 kit. Any advice for painting the thing? Likely will just do details like red on the chest and coloring the eyes.

Not gonna lie, this makes me want to pick up the Metal Build. Giving it the proper shoulder pylons and head makes it look fucking amazing.

just got it, not sticky at all, dunno what you guys are on about. revo joints are a little frustrating but it's a nice figure. will post pics soon

That's good to hear. It was a possibility, nothing more. I think it happens when the factory messes up the mixture ratio, like they're not as accurate to the specifications given by Kaiyodo. Because I assume they would know how not to make the plastic sticky, and yet it occurs time to time. By the time they notice the mistake thousands of figures are already produced so they can't do shit about it.

the only issue i can find with the figure is slightly off eyes and the hips being a tad discolored. overall pretty fun to pose around, much better than my revo predator who cant even stand

rebuild designs are so shitty. idk why they gave 02 that stupid looking ninja crest headband thing. the new designs are so amateur, they lack any sense of restraint or nuance.
