If G3 is still happening/ever going to happen, I really hope it's larger, more complicated sets intended for adult hobbyists. Maybe similar in appeal to something like gunpla, or something.

To be fair, the mask would be really cool on any toa other than Gali. Looks perfect for a Titan-tier set, too, especially with the added connections the mask gives.

Is that considered a legal connection? I feel like peg-in-pinhole is very iffy. Half the time it seems intended to be allowed, and the other half the pins are physically in capable of fitting them.
>>
>>7583817
all i know is that it's legal to cut down flex tubing, don't know if that connection is though, but honestly I don't give a single damn.
>>
>>7583770

>>
>>7583820
Well I prefer to use legal connections in all my works is all. Any moc I see feels gerry-rigged if it has illegal connections in it to me.
>>
>>7583827
I respect that. To me, if a connection fits, it fits. I'm not going to put two parts together that clearly should not, like the hands in pic related (the technic piece forced over a balljoint, fuck that's retarded and just going to break the technic piece).
On the other hand, a rod can fit inside a technic pin, and a rod can fit inside an axle hole, so in my eyes they're both fine, but I can understand others maybe being against it.
>>
>>7583316
>Why is Gali Mistika so universally hated?
It's the mask, probably.
>>
>>7583827
You can use a 1x2 liftarm and plug that into the neck then attach the mata head with a pin axle.
>>
Are some Kohlii teams in MNOG harder than others? I can't tell much of a difference, but I haven't challenged Po-Koro yet. I would imagine Onu, Le, and Ko-Koro are weaker since they don't make it to the championship.
>>
>>7583770
That doesn't suggest to me that Greg didn't know about the term Koronan, only that he's saying it isn't canon. Obviously clarifying that is why the question was asked in the first place.
>>
>>7584012
I think most or all teams have their own strengths like speed, stamina, strategy and the other stuff Hahli has to learn. Once you improve your stats in the required fields, they all become super easy to beat.
>>
>>7584040
Except his reasoning makes no fucking sense because the islanders of Mata Nui weren't aware of other islands. Obviously the villages were secluded enough early on for the usage of such a word, and it's usage makes sense in MNOG. It's possible the person asking the question hadn't played the game either and Greg just "decanonized" a logical turn of phrase for no fucking reason whatsoever.
>>
>>7584056
I remember some concept that says that the word of an author outside of the actual work itself isn't any more canon than anyone else's. That's how I would approach this. We're asking his opinion of the Bionicle lore, not the exact specific canonicity of it.
>>
>>7584059
When this community treats his answers like the word of God though, it's hard not to get annoyed by his idiotic decisions based on ignorance. Because then gray area stuff like this starts getting treated by some people as if it's black and white.

You might want to take note that there are essentially two types or transparent Lego colors:
>regular transparent
>fluoresecent transparent

Fluorescent colors are special hues that that glow extremely very well under the light and really pop out. Aside from Onua's trans green, all Toa Mata/Nuva eye colors were fluorescent. Lego in recent years also introduced trans bright green, which is also fluorescent.

Unfortunately, regular trans colors either perform decently or terribly. Trans red, trans green and trans dark blue fall under the second group: your Toa might look nice in a closeup shot, but their eyes will otherwise look pretty dead.

on another note, this might be a dumb question but it's one i've had for a while. if matoran sexual reproduction isn't a thing, what's the point of female matoran?
>>
>>7586093
I recall Greg saying that gender still exists in the MU, but it's a purely mental thing. Apparently Chiara read Orde as male due to his body language.
>>
>>7586093
Toa and Matoran are based on Glatorian and Agori, who have genders unrestricted by element and reproduce naturally. The Great Being's came to a conclusion somehow that certain elements responded differently to the male and female psyche, so they assigned gendered AI to each Matoran based on their elemental type.
>>
>>7586093
Since the Great Beings based the Matoran off the Agori like how the Toa are based off of the Glatorian, it would make sense that the Great Beings would copy over some of the extraneous features. (Somehow LEGO was fine with the Agori reproducing sexually.)

For example, if the Matoran are supposed to be workers why are they so damn short? Wouldn't it make sense, for the sake of productivity, for the Matoran to be least the height of Toa so they could carry more stuff and be less helpless all the time? The answer lies in the fact that the Agori are short, and the Great Beings are a bunch of incompetent, unimaginative bastards.

>>7586099
>Chiara read Orde as male due to his flaccid, golden axle swinging between his legs

not impossible. I micromanaged to the extreme so that I can get both in on time, back when I first played it. The trick is that the timer only starts once you open the path to the main section of Ga-Koro, so in the beginning you should have to grind out as many of those source materials as you can.
>>
>>7586110
Oooh, really? I was wondering why the timer was arbitrarily 23 minutes. I guess it's 20 minutes and I took 3 minutes to unlock the bridge.

God, this reminds me how fanfiction-y the last couple of years of Bionicle were.

Part of the appeal of the Bionicle (at least in the early years and at least with me) was the mystery, but nooo, the red star is a space station where they raised people from the dead, and Velika is somehow a Great Being all of the sudden along with 30 new OCs Greg just thrown in for the audience to make sense of.
>>
>>7586113
Yup! You just have to make mad dashes between matoran to get all your materials created, and if you make a wrong turn or forget something, that could end up with Nokama arriving before you can hand it over; this is especially hard when you consider one or two Matoran tend to wander between certain areas (and even going indoors).
>>

Yup. I still remember a topic where one person who was "in the circle" made a huge rant about why Bionicle sucked and how MNOG and everything that the fans loved was rubbish. And all of his/her friends came in to lick the OP's ass for being a free thinker who tells it like it is. But the moment anyone else who actually liked Bionicle tried to argue against their points or presented a differing opinion, they ganged up on them, forcing them to shut up and let OP speak, because having a different opinion was apparently oppressing him/her.
>>
>>7586353
Yeah, but it used to have the excuse of being 90% populated with kids.
>>
>>7586353
The retardness changed over time, though. During G1 most were kids/early teens. Then the kids grew up, I suppose, and BZP became an elistist shithole of people who honestly thinks trans Tamaru is a good idea and that "You guys" is misgendering.

So, after messing around with editing the save file, I've come to the conclusion that these are the most "realistic" max stats:
>Strength: 80
Past this point, leveling any higher is almost literally up to chance. The reticle goes so fast that you can't time your throws anymore.
>Speed: 100
Technically, you can train speed infinitely as long as you have enough bladders. By this point though, assuming you have 40 stamina, you need to use a bladder every for every time you get close to the shark, and that means you're using about 4 bladders every run. When money isn't a problem as long as you barter Kohlii balls en masse, that's not impossible. But by the time you reach 100, your fingers will probably want to fall off, so we'll call it there.
>Accuracy: 70
By this point, the targets fall so fast that - like strength training - hitting them is basically up to change. The difference here is that the event is timed, which makes leveling past 70 even less likely.
>Stamina: 40
Getting 40 stamina is a fucking workout. The only way I was able to get from 39 to 40 was by using two hands on my laptop mouse pad, and even then I had to have laser focus attention or couldn't click fast enough. Anything past this point ranges from nightmarish to literally physically impossible.
>Willpower: 10
To be honest, you don't really need willpower. I stared losing my god damn mind after 10 points and I can imagine it getting progressively harder. I'm sure it does, somehow, but I'm not going to test it. Fuck that.
>Strategy: 60
Like speed training, I think you might be able to train strategy to infinity. It throws more and more goats at you as you level up, but I don't think they ever get faster, meaning that at no point does it become literally impossible. At level 60, the game requires some impressive forethought and skill to keep up with the bastards though. I just don't have the patience to get any higher than this.

Well he was the one who reimagined Makuta as a keikaku master after the movies turned him into a dumb cartoon villain, and I generally liked how he handled him after that, save for some obvious things (like his new name). It might be a far cry from the 01-style Makuta, but it was an improvement over the 2nd movie and even the comics.
I think Greg was better at writing scenes or character interactions, especially under restrictions, rather than throwing his own ideas into the lore. But it's hard to even tell what were his ideas before the serials, because he rarely specified.

Yeah I get what you mean.
The main criticism I hear from Systemfags is that bonkle is "huge specialised parts" so it feel like with ccbs they designed all the parts with the same esthetic, making sure none is used in a soecific way, making the whole thing feel like it didn't have the balls to assume it was the successor of a line that created wierd new parts for breakfast.
What's weird is that you can see in a design doc that one of the proposed initial design was to have machinery carvings like on most g1 parts that have both a technical and decorative use.
As someone whose builds usually end up breaking parts just from building, ccbs' fixed plastic was a godsend. But I don't think I've ever built something great using strictly ccbs, the thing is way too restricted as a whole unless you're a fag that slaps armors on a base skeleton.

All six of them never grouped up against one Piraka, IIRC. That was the whole thing, they weren't working together and sorely underestimated their enemies. Rahkshi were the strongest thing they'd fought up to that point. They thought they were hot shit for beating six of those small time motherfuckers.

03 Matorans and Mahri Matorans are probably my favourite. Just a solid and good looking design for both of them.

Always a soft spot for Tohungas but if you really look at them they're only glorified disk launchers, and it doesn't feel fair to elevate them out of bias alone.

Never really cared for the Voya Matorans. I like half of them (Black Brown and Green) just because they're solid little designs but the other half just kind feel like shitty kids' MOCs that won a contest or something. You also don't mention them, but since they fill the same role of Matorans in a toy-line sense, I like the Rahagas for pretty much the same reason I like the good Voya Matorans.

And I just straight don't like Metru Matorans. I never liked how front heavy and stumpy they were. If they at least had a second back plate I'd probably like them more.

And Av Matoran are just too specialized parts for me (same goes for whatever the fuck the glatorian matoran were called, except I liked the scopion) Just made them kind of boring.

Made a tiny little mod for my Onua. Built in a Mixel joint for the neck. The gears can't rotate anymore, but I used bars for the shoulders instead of 3-length axles, so it gains a little bit of posability. I also replaced the 5-length axles in the hip with a 4-length bar.
>>
>>7588502
I mostly agree with >>7588532, but I can't say I love any of them because all of them have many faults or annoying things that hold them back.
01: cute, colorful designs, nice recolors, but specialized pieces, almost no articulation, very limited availability and Lego missed a huge opportunity by not releasing them in blind bags as a tie-in to MNOG
03: nice updates, okay but floppy gimmick, overly restricted articulation and no green and black guys, and the reds came with other sets
04: neat mask and Mata eye recolors, decent articulation, but shitty builds and no backs
06: okay parts packs and some creative minimalist builds (and very nice combo models), but they're sloppy, have no eyes/brains and the reused masks are a slap in the face
07: satisfying builds for small sets and a couple nice recolors, but again no eyes/brains, shitty '01 arms and there's only two of them, with another two only coming packed with a huge exclusive set. With better arms and eyes, they could be near perfect.
08: decent masks, passable articulation, shit everything else, the poster boys of things Systemfags hate about Bionicle

It seems to me that back in 2003, when he was hyped to defeat Makuta once for all, that him and the Avohkii were hinted to be even more powerful than the Toa Nuva and the Kanohi Nuva. Was that just in my mind or was that actually supposed to be the case?

>the Mahri were downgraded as a whole when compared to the Inika
Clearly your opinion is the minority.
>>
I'm gonna be honest with 'yall. On a technical level, VNOG might be better designed than MNOG2, but it's a lifeless bore and I hate it. MNOG2 is a hollow shell compared to the first game, but it still has more charm than this.
>>
>>7589668
You're pretty spot on there. MNOG isn't much of a game as challenges are few and far between, and some of the visuals and animation are pretty ropey, but it's an experience and full of personality and passion.
MNOG II has a nice look and music and plenty of atmosphere. As dull, tedious and unfulfilling as it is, at least you feel like you're on Mata Nui.
VNOG doesn't even have the benefit of being semi-canon, and while it's better put together as a challenging online game, it gets even more tedious and boring than MNOG II. It also has a fatal glitch right near the end that can be tricky to avoid. I remember I got stuck in a room with no exit, and had to finish the game using the account of my buddy who gave me his username and password. He was quite surprised when he logged in and saw he had already beaten the game.
>>
>>7589652
4 anons doesn't mean I'm wrong. Prove to me 4 outta 6 of the Mahri aren't downgrades and maybe I'd believe you.
>>
>>7589724
>(MNOGII has) plenty of atmosphere... at least you feel like you're on Mata Nui.
The thing is, it's a Mata Nui that is almost devoid of life. Something I found odd and lonely about MNOG2 is that there are basically no Rahi whatsoever roaming the island. No Husi or Mahi populating the Po-Koro bazaar, no Ussal crabs greeting you outside of Onu-Wahi caves. Most of the Matoran just stay in their huts and only occasionally leave (and it always just so happens to be right when you need to talk to them for something).
Also, the third person perspective neuters the atmosphere considerably. Watching Hahli bound at 2mph across an absurdly open field with nothing populating it what-so-ever might be an attempt to convey some sort of grand sense of scale, but it doesn't. It's just boring and empty.
>>
>>7589771
Most communities will disagree with you. It's widely accepted that the Mahri are one of if not the best Toa team we ever got with perhaps Hewkii as a sore exception in quality. I don't have to prove anything. Lurk more.
>>
>>7589776
I'd say Nuparu is a downgrade too. His gappy limbs really stick out, and it doesn't help that his Inika form was all around a pretty solid set, his rubber mask notwithstanding
>>
>>7589776
Been here since g2 leaks in 2014, fuck outta here. Mahri a shit. People look at 06 and see the All aAmerican Rejects, Heroes, and the YoYo Piraka shit and view the majority of it as bad. The Matoran, sure. Every other set was solid. 07 had better villains, Matoran, ads, and more solid titans, but the Toa were a lackluster ensemble. I was always disappointed with their designs since I first saw them 12 years ago and I can't say my opinion has really changed. I can say Jaller and Hahli are better, especially in the mask department, but the others suck. Hewkii got shorter with worse colors and one hand, Kongu became a dwarf with no unique weapon, Matoro and Nuparu I already explained. I can't enjoy them as a team. I'm sorry I have standards. Barraki didn't need to look similar but goddamn the Mahri at least could still have kept their old colors to have SOME cohesion. Kongu went from my favorite to my most despised Toa set. I even liked Gali Mistika more than his shit design. I can't like the Mahri. And this is a guy who loved all Barraki, Mahritoran, and Lesovikk.
>>
>>7589793
Personally, I'd say they're about equal. They've both got different pros and cons that balance each other out.
>>
>>7589803
Your opinion is valid. All I'm saying is that you're in the minority. That is fact. If you've been around as long as you say you have, you should be aware of that and have accepted it by now.
>>
>>7589806
Oh I know, I thought the implication was I was totally alone, which I know others agree with me. Even if it is the minority opinion. I also just like posting my thoughts.
>>
>>7589803
I understand your hatred of Hewki and Kongu (most people are not too fond of them), but Nuparu and Matoro just seem so much more interesting and aesthetically pleasing in their Mahri forms to me, aside from minor nitpicks like the gappy limbs and slightly awkward tube placement
>>

Yeah but as a whole, it's not like MNOG that's mostly gives you a canon rundown on the story with a few contradicting elements mixed in. It's more or less non-canon with a handful canon aspects, like most of the '06 media apart from the comics and books.

>it's not like MNOG that's mostly gives you a canon rundown on the story with a few contradicting elements mixed in

Is that really true? Some part of MNOG was being referenced by Mirimax/Greg every year, up until 2010. Maybe Swinnerton or whoever copied the events of the game into the story bible and Greg's getting everything from there.

It's referenced so often that it just seems bizzare to call it non-canon, even a little.
>>
>>7590360
Just little stuff. For example, as far as obtaining their golden masks goes, I think the novel is supposed to be canon. But in MNOG, Lewa gets it from his Suva.
Also stuff like Jala mentioning that he's lost men to the Rahi war, when it's apparently canonical that nobody on Mata Nui had died as long as they'd been there.

File: based pohatu.jpg (231 KB, 1000x824)
231 KB

>>7590414
Pretty sure the novel is the least canonical version of the 2001 storyline, because it was written after the fact in 2003 and the way Greg tells the battle with the Shadow Toa corresponds with the version in the style guide (by Swinnerton?)
>>
>>7590441
Parts of it are considered true canon never-the-less. Like the Toa getting their golden Masks from statues of themselves at the Kini-Nui.
>>
At a certain point in VNOG you have to run across the entire god damn island for every single quest and it fucking sucks.
>>
>>7590441
>>7590478
Yeah it's a mishmash. None of the officially released media ever told a complete and fully canon 2001 story, they all contradict one another in some ways and none are complete. The novel is a particularly bad offender cause it doesn't incorporate MNOG (because at the time of writing it was not accepted as canon), it leaves out or reinterprets stuff intended for the '01 computer game (like the Makoki stones or the chambers that merge the Kaita) and completely neglects the Toa v Makuta fight. And despite copying stuff directly from the comic, it also contradicts it, like when they discover the Rahi are controlled via masks which was common knowledge in the comic.
And it originally contained even more non-canon stuff before the text was finalized for the English release, because some foreign translations were based on the much longer, earlier manuscript. It's so fucking strange that Cathy Hapka, the writer, got so much wrong in the book when the reason it got made to begin with was to finally give people a full overview of the '01 plot.

>Kopaka/Onua (don't remember exactly which one) and Lewa ,like Gali, were girls (Lewa because I misread one of those comics and the other one just because)
>Takanuva was a bad guy and had an army of Rahkshi and Tahu alone was going to be the one who faced Makuta, this was before watching MoL. I gotta admit that I was more into Orient Expedition in 2003 so I wasn't very up to date with the story.
>Because in my language plant and floor (as in building floor) were the same word I believed for some time that the Morbuzahk was, and I shit you not, some kind of shadowy enchanted floor present somewhere in each Metru that the Toa had to get rid of. That silly idea didn't last long.
>Piraka were going to be the Hordika after being even more mutated (this was before the Piraka were revealed, and after that screamer game)
>Piraka were working for Makuta (literally, not just metaphorically) and he was in Voya Nui (again, literally, the Shadow Titan rather than as Antidermis).

Onua and Pohatu were enemies. Because of that one picture where Onua is coming out of the ground and they're facing eachother. Actually, I might have thought the Toa were all fighting eachother as they competed to collect masks across the island.

>I didn't know the Rahkshi will be in MoL because I never saw any trailers, so I was hyped when I watched it and they showed up
>I thought Whenua, not Vakama will be the one having visions in 04, since the 01 promo CD mentioned Whenua having the ability to foresee things a day in advance
>the Rahaga were in the present timeline because they looked like mini Rahkshi, while the rest of 05 was in the past
>Krekka used to be a Toa too
>there were two suns over both Mata and Metru Nui because the ending of MoL confused the heck out of me

Not only are air shards stupid easy to collect, but the game just hands you the best air type armor on a platter around every corner. He has the most hp of any enemy in the game, but that doesn't matter when he can barely ever hit you at close range.

>Matoro would actually come back (Why was he even in the promotional material for the Glatorian arc?)

Made me thought Bara Magna was some sort of after-life.

>>7592241
it was a sort of afterlife for the series in a way

>>Metru Nui was in the future when the Turaga became Toa to replace Tahu & co
Definitely this one. I thought Metru Nui was some distant sequel and that the Turaga actually turned into Toa Metru. In retrospective, it sounds kind of fun.

>I could've done a half decent voiceover for any of these characters had I known of this back before it was released
>they use the same sperg with the chunkiest lisp ever for Hakann, Tahu, and Karzahni, effectively cranking the cringe up twenty intervals
Motherfucker should have been a background Matoran or some shit and nothing else. I have no idea why they thought he was the best choice for any lead character, nevermind 3.

I thought it was all done by the person animating it and his sister would voice Hahli and Gali

are Axonn and Brutaka really stronger than TSO, Icarax and Karzahni?
>>
>>7592786
All Makuta are on the same power level, though some (like Icarax, Teridax, Antroz, Mutran and others) might have the edge due to intellect, knowledge fighting skills. Same thing with Toa by the way: Helryx is a normal Toa without extra power, it's experience and skill that makes her so dangerous.

Brutaka was fighting on par with Teridax, and TSO was doing the same. I got the feeling Karzahni wasn't quite on that level though, and that Teridax had a harder time with Brutaka.

So Makuta = TSO = Axonn = Brutaka > Karzahni. Possibly Artakha > all of them.

I've read Time Trap a decade ago, but what I remember is "Makuta" fought TSO and Voporak at the same time and practically won, whereas Brutaka fought Teridax and they were fairly even. Then there is Axonn, who was so fucking strong, Brutaka thought his only chance against him was to send him to other dimension.

does anyone have info on the leaked beta?

Faber seems to have settled on a canister design now, looks pretty futuristic.

Welp. That's VNOG, I guess. Mostly just a mindless bore, to be honest. It's a decently designed game, I suppose, and it can be strangely addictive. But it's easily skippable.

I think MNOG remains the only online game truly worth playing.

Would've been better if the guys at Miramax and voice actors of Ocean and either Funimation/Aniplex/Sentai to do the characters and the CGI work by Creative Capers and Polygon Pictures (or maybe Sanzigen).

That would've been more better than how NoahProductions pulls it off.

Rather than the shitty MOC's, crappy stop motion movements and the crappy green screen effects and all.

>an officially licensed film production would be better than a shitty home grown fan film
What an absurd suggestion.

I unironically prefer NoahProductions' movies over Bio 4.

The Vahki animations are so fucking kino. It's not fair that we didn't get a full Metru Nui Online Game from Templar, bros.
