I'm in love

So I'm working on the following:
>Baselard: Zelfikar custom
>Architect: M.S.G. overkill
>MD Witch: Egyptian mechromancer

I'm trying to scratchbuild some Anubis-like ears for the MD project but I'm wondering whether I should just cave in and go for Innocentia's dog ears
>>
>>7565285
That kind of ear? I'm thinking some kind of inner frame coated with a layer of epoxy putty with a 3mm peg for anchoring.

The ears of the Shadow Fox would work great. Perfect shape and have ridges inside the ear that you could drybrush the edges of with gold to really bring out that Anubian Jackal look.

Only major issue is the HMM been out of print for a while and thus not cheap. Might find used ones of the original Tomy motorized kit for cheap on Ebay, won't be as detailed but still good enough.
>>
>>7565231
FAGs nearly always release on the last week of the month. The advertised release date is when the seller will get it: after that, you'll have to have it shipped to you. This could take 2-5 days with a fast shipping option and some good luck, or a month or more if you chose cheap and slow shipping.

sure! always always always be on the lookout for things, 1 inch is equal to 1 foot for these girls. other than that, best glue I've found was just dollarstore clear craft glue and don't be afraid to get sticky (I used the glue on the blankets, closet, bed, mattress, everything) for coat hangers just use jewellers wire, it also slides in well to make the bedding "pose able" with your girls' bodies. lean on the side of taller furniture, because you can always shave off what you don't need.

Banned for being offensive to native americans
>>
>>7570264
Classic example of a highly acclaimed book riddled with horrendous stereotypes of Native Americans. Banks created her 'Indian' character from the mixed bag of harmful cliches so common among British authors. The portrayal of Native Americans is seen as acceptable, implying its representations of American Indians as savages are the way American Indians are viewed in the mainstream. The role of Omri reinforces ideas of white paternalism and should be removed from circulation due to offensive treatment of native peoples.

In the books it's actually the key itself that turns the toys into the people/creatures they represent. Any cupboard with a keyhole that the key can fit into will do, the act of open/close using the key to lock it does the trick.

I've been making my FAGs match the size of my MDs, so one of my last stops is the torso mod. It includes making a new torso joint so 1. It will be roughly MD sized once the pieces are cut 2. Getting more articulation for bending forwards and backwards.

How did I manage to make a FAG waist and torso connect like an MD?

Widening the torso and pinching the waist.

Pic related, these are my three approaches to the new torso joint using spare gunpla parts. [A] is using a normal swivel joint with a stick attached to the FAG polycap at the end. [B] is using a Ballden Arms joint, pretty much. [C] is using a swivel joint with a stick (heated and ) bent at an acute angle to some more axes of movement.

I'd like to hear from the thread on which joint structure I should commit to.

I feel like B might be the easiest to test first and repair, down the line, potentially

This kit is beautiful, but they really needed to work on the tolerances of these joints better.
>>
>>7577230
How so? Too tight, too loose? Im picking mine up tomorrow
>>
>>7577238
Too tight, for the most part. You know the common adage, "sand the joints" for Kotobukiya kits? Goes double for this kit. There's some flashing on some important portions that will prevent the kit from going together at all, the waist swing, for example. Though once you take care of all that, should be fine.
>>
I'm gonna go from only having built Gunpla to the CFG GaoGaiGar and the Bullet Knights Lancer sometime soon, anything I should know before I make the jump? (Hardest hit I ever build was the Nu Gundam Ver Ka. btw)

Having just finished my own Nu Ver Ka a little
while ago and having built a bunch of FAGs and MDs before that, you'll be fine.
Expect harder, more brittle plastic that makes for sometimes scarily tigh joints.
>>
>>7577858
New koto kits use more POM parts for less fragility, mind.

Also sanding and using a little grease to lube joints helps
>>
>>7577937
Yeah I love their use of POM for particularly high-stress parts, it's great.
I was referring to their PS, which is way harder than Bandai's blends, especially the stuff they used on the Nu Ver Ka's frame.

Also worth noting is that Koto frequently uses ABS for clear parts rather than PS, which makes them a fair bit easier to work with.
>>
I haven't done any sort of coats on my models because I'm not sure if I'll want to do panel lines and such or not. I have only unboxed shinkis and built the couple MDs then posed them up on a table together. How horrifically evil am I being?

Do I need to prepare resin parts before applying primer?
>>
>>7578289
As in sanding? yes, resin tends to have rougher surface then plastic so it's a good idea to sand it and make things more smooth. The paint may adhere well without the sanding, but it often looks bad in my experience if it's not sanded.
>>
>>7578298
What about the dust of death? I have a mask I use for painting, will that be enough?
>>
>>7578308
it will be perfectly fine, any basic woodsanding mask also works. It's not like the resin puts out a microscopic fume that is toxic, it's just the particulates. So pretty much any protection is enough.
>>
>>7577983
That sounds pretty neutral evil. Panel lining at a basic level is piss easy and can be done with stuff you are guaranteed to already have around if you're not living in a mud hut (and if you are in a hut, how are you snapping models and posting on 4channel?) Top coating or shine removal isn't that much higher of a bar to clear.
>>
I want to get into model kits, but I'm having a bit of choice paralysis.
I know I definitely want either Frame Arm Girls, Megami Device or Hexa Gear, but can't choose
>>
>>7578935
That's just setting him up for disappointment with the rest of the line.
>>
Wilbernine/Rapid Raider wheels are too skinny and too big for a custom build I'm doing, Raptor's wheels are too small, and I'm not willing to shell out $40 just for the wheels from Hexa Gear kits, what are some good (Koto custom MD-approved) alternatives to race car wheels?

Alternatively how do I scratchbuild some besides sandwiching pla plates into a stack and hollowing out the middle?
>>
>>7579006
Personally I would reccommend the Hexagears because they will end up giving you other parts for customizing. Their modularity is beyond surprising in all the extra armor peices that can be slapped onto your FAGs and MDs. Pretty much ANYTHING on a Hexagear can connect to a hardpoint on the other lines in some way. with a FEW exceptions. biggest one being the paws so far are stumping me.

Yeah, using a cheaper pair of nippers and cutting some distance away from the part, then I use a better pair to cut flat almost to the part, then I use a medium file to remove the large excess, then sand with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit.
But the white stress marks are still there, sometimes, and with the clear it's harder to avoid that I'm finding out.

well, to start with, you are fine with making wheels completely out of hard plastic and not use rubber at all? Because that is part of the reason I recommended the Hexagear, unlike the other kits you mentioned, they have a rubber covering on the wheels which appeals to me.

Another now that I think about it is to look around lego kits for anything wheeled that might have the size and shape of tire you might like. I never used it myself before, but there is a site called Bricklink, you can buy individual parts for pretty damn cheap there so you should be able to track down the part that way. May have to ask the Lego general folk for help on how to find a specific part you want there.

Then take the rubber tire and you fashion a wheel hub out of stacked pla plates and drill a hole in the center for an axle.

Chitoserium which is done by a proper Japanese company turned out to be a terrible kit (parts not fitting right, joints being jacked as fuck)

I have a bad feeling about the Alphamax ones

Man, these are weird. They're not bad, but they all feel like they're just one step shy of really hitting the mark.

They look more like Figmas than model kits. The colors, especially the metallic colors, seem off as well. Those shades of gold and silver are more like something you'd see on a pre-painted scale figure. It's certainly not the colors it's actually molded in, so it tells almost nothing about how they'll look out-of-the-box
>>
>>7583255
The maid is a single kit with multiple possible configurations?
>>
>>7583266
It’s just the joints that need work on Platinum. Otherwise, she is perfect. GSC hasn’t been in this as long as Kotobukiya so it’ll get better.

Alphamax and Max Factory are not Chinese.

I mean they avoided the brunt of the commies fucking over china and creating the slimy business culture they have today thanks to the bongs, but it's still china

How’s plamax’s quality?
Never heard of them.
>>

>hong kong

They never should have left Colonial Brittan. Then agian they'd be invaded by the Sand People by now if they didn't. Tough call to know who is is worse.
>>
>>7583533
>never should have
you're right, but they had no choice in the matter, it was effectively a lease for 100 years and the lease was up, no way china would renew it so unless bongland wanted to go to war over a few rocky islands halfway around the world it was inevitable
at least the culture remained intact, and they have a hateboner for the mainland

find spots where damage won't be obvious, like in the joint areas, take an exacto knife and wedge it into the seam. Now try to slowly wiggle and move it further along the seam to get enough opening for better seperators.

How is anybody supposed to afford everything now? At least the regular figure market is so shit now there's nothing worth buying outside model kits.
>>
>>7583959
Buy what you can afford and no more. If this is your hobby, it's going to take up a large chunk of your disposable income.

I kinda agree, while I don't think you have to buy everything, I also think this shit is still too expensive. I hope one of the companies catches wise and tries to undercut the market somehow.
