Been enjoying the photo thread and the image limit hit so I figured I'd take it upon myself to start a new one.

Something hat always bugged me. Can y’all tell she’s on a horse or does it merely suggest a horse since you can’t see it, or does this just not make sense?
>>
>>7550716
Waist up, especially arms, says horse, waist down is confusing.

I think it's whatever is on the her side that's light colored draws the eye away and confuses the photo.
>>
>>7550716
>>7550716
Since you mentioned horse, I can see her pulling the reigns. If you hadn’t mentioned the horse, I’d think she was mid jump, holding some rope.

Without explanation the pic doesn’t make much sense. There’s no suggestion of horse as it’s too dark.

It is indeed. The one from whatever brand in the early 'oughts. I think Toycom but they come in a lot of brands.

I scored a sweet deal that, with shipping to AUstralia from the US, was still only about $150 USD for SG, Moltar, invisible SG and "Space Spectre" which is the evil version from another dimension, has a ligth up fist and actually never appeared on Coast to Co0ast so it's an odd choice to add to the C2C line.

Sorry for the low light photo, hang tight and I'll take one of the gang together

Moltar and his console, Tad both regular and invisible.

I'm making some food props so it's cluttered and I have no idea about the suirrel, I must have left the window open.

Tad comes with a desk, stool notecards and a coffee mug. Moltar just had the console behind him.

Tad has a second set of hands but Moltar does not.

There's only Brak, Zorak and a Tad with a light up hand in the series but both Brak and Zorak are over a hundred bucks so they will have to wait and I don't want the light up hand Tad.
>>
>>7550918
Oh, and MOltar's clipboard is from the Palisades Scooter Muppet figure. I found him loose on EBay and he has a skateboard, two fast food soda cups, a holder for said cups, a megaphone a clipboard and a box of chinese food.

If you mean that I really appreciate it. I come here on and off but I'm not much of an internet person so my visits can be years apart.

Getting a (you) does brighten my day.

Here's the desk Tad comes with, it's one of the two I opened and so I am using this one to try and design a bar for superheroes. I'm figuring up the carpet first then I'll figure the wallpaper. The television is on the stool Tad came with. For now it's holding Yotsuba's television. I used the bottom part of a bubble wand to make the antenna. The antenna still needs a drybrush of silver.

The camera came with Kermit there and I just blue tacked one of Tad's notecards to it.
>>

I honestly saw no horse, I do see parts of it now that you mentioned it but yeah, it's almost non existent
>>
I have no kitchens to participate on the theme, but here’s some Snipers VS Mercs.
>>
>>7551136
Nice depth of field on that one!

The kitchen isn't a theme, I thought the "_____ Edition" was just a creative way you guys named the threads and not a theme for the thread.
>>
>>7550716
it's not apparent right away.

It's that the horse is too dark and mostly cropped out. different color background might help.

It’s all about conveying tension and weight within the capabilities of the figure. People don’t just stand like a figurine, they’ll put their weight on one leg or rest their hands etc.

Personally I find it helps to mime the pose and exaggerate a bit. In pic related I just Googled Olympic sprinters

Good tips here. Figure how the character would actually stand and also look at references. Then from there it's also learning the angle at which to snap the picture. That can make a huge amount of difference.

Obviously I just take fun shots while I am playing with them but I still try to do by how they would "Naturally" stand and use references.

Tad, YOtsuba and Jigen watched Moonwalker and he's entertaining Yostuba.

The background and the figures are dark, so it’s hard to make what’s going on. It’s cropped too close too.

Light the figures better, so they stand out against the backdrop, then focus on one of the figures.

A personal thought, don’t crop the feet. Looking at a complete, grounded figure makes it easier for the eye to discern shapes.

>Fair... but I want my pictures to look natural like they are in a warehouse. Lighting doesn't really take a focus in my pictures

Look at pic related (not mine). It looks far more like a warehouse and even thought it’s darker, it’s more understandable than your pic.

Saying that lightning doesn’t take focus in your pics is nuts. Photography is all about lightning and composition.

I did check your insta. You have some good stuff, but it all looks flat. There’s no depth to your pics.

Also, you have twice as many pics as followers. That’s absolutely nothing to brag about, so I wouldn’t use your instagram as a measure of quality at all.
>>

>>
>>7562052
Your right it isn't him. Just watch him delete his post out of fear of being caught.
>>
>>7561135

Quick notes - Dutch angle is interesting, posing is alright, but if you're cropping the feet then I recommend not cropping anything else, in this case the gun's flame or whatever that is. The hooded guy in the background is hard to see which leads me to this...

>>7562008
>Lighting doesn't really take a focus in my pictures

It really should. That's like saying paint or color don't matter in traditional art

>>7562054
>Photography is all about lightning and composition.

1,000% this

You can botch composition and still have something salvageable through cropping but you just can't have a good picture without good lighting. A photograph is literally an image produced by the light the camera picks up.

>>7562008
>>7562027
>D Amazing

This isn't high praise, the dude's very bad considering how long he's been at it and how often he does it. Its why I hate the whole ACBA thing. Yes, I get that its primarily a toy community but it pretends to be THE authority on toy photography and very few of them are actually any good as photographers. I also took a look at your IG and I can tell you're emulating that style. Don't. Since the focus isn't on photography but they're credibility (lol) kind of relies on it they invent these ridiculous rules that leads to a lot of homogeny in their pics no matter who shot them and mind-blowingly awful and wrong principles like "no post, everything in-camera" and in your instance "lighting isn't important"

So I have a question.

No one here really cares about d amazing or acba, but why do you go through the trouble of impersonating someone just to namedrop the person that you somehow have a hate boner for? What is the purpose of all of this? Why do you feel the need to profess your hate for him so much? And please answer the question. Don't just tell us to forget about and get back to photography, because you are just going to do it again in the next thread. I know you stated a reason but just not liking his work or acba's way of doing things (which honestly, why do you care so much? You aren't being forced to follow anyone's standard) doesnt seem like enough reason to keep doing this.

They won't answer you because they KNOW you have a point, whether they're impersonating this Zach guy or not. They'll wait until 2 or 3 threads later before typing up another monlogue about how ACBA is evil and D-Amazing is somehow responsible for all the toy photos out there, when in fact there is an entire photography community on Twitter and MFC that would be much more suited to their tastes but won't check those because "welp, gotta hate on ACBA and D amazing because I don't get the amount of likes I want and they do!"

If you can, shoot by a window. sunlight is the best light. You can also use a lamp or two, or a flashlight, or even your phone light but you'll need to do some white balance correction.

If you can't change your white balance settings with the camera then apps like VSCO, Pixelmater, and Snapseed are free and give you the option to tweek shit.

Not really.
If I had to be pedantic and find a 'flaw' then it would probably be the white lighting in a couple of them, mostly the first and the fourth picture.

First, the white light at the front with the red at the back is a bit weird, almost as if he should be lit up red as well.

Fourth, just feels the light is a tad too bright for the scene. However not knowing the thought process into that scene, I won't fault it.

>>
>>7573746
>Are these bad though?

Subjective, everything's "good" and fun but if you're looking for constructive criticism here goes.

>>7573384
I like this the best. Although, the red spot right behind Darkseid is hijacking the image. Something to consider is the "journey" you want someone's eyes to follow. In this case I'd bet that the draw is supposed to be Darkseid but instead the eye is sucked into that red spot. Some refinement in how this is lit would elevate it quite a bit since its framed nicely. Darkseid could stand to scoot over a tad to the left though to create a backlit aura

>>7573396
My only note on this is that its framed awkwardly at the top, where the right arm is. A slightly wider shot with just a little bit more negative space would've helped.

>>7573401
I get it, its just not working for me. Too many things are being chopped out of frame for him to only be fighting 3 guys. I like the right arm, I don't get what the left hand is supposed to be doing. I get the impression that its supposed to either be a toku/sentai pose or a kung fu strike hand but a fist would've sold it a lot better. There's not enough lighting the subject, it comes off like more attention was given to the set than the figures. Low set loop lighting would've helped. That purple/blue clashes with the red and greens so the image looses an atmospheric mood.

>>7573404
I also can't get down with this one and its objectively the worst of the bunch. The girl is what throws it off, she's this underlit blotch distracting from Robocop. That red thing peeking into the shot on the right could stand to not be there. I don't remember the movie well enough to know what he's holding but it looks like a pack of gum. I get the impression that its a badge or an ID. The pose is telling me "look at what I'm holding" but the focus won't let me. I'd suggest a smaller aperture to sharpen up more details in the shot.

>>7573816

>>
>>7574725
I had one. The problem with it is that it’s still 6 inches but it’s not 1/12 scale so it doesn’t look right next to other figures.
>>
>>7553069
I would say back the figures up from the city scape so it looks more like a backdrop. Just as well, try to keep the lighting away to reduce the glare.

Your criticisms are great and I'm sure that if D-Amazing had in fact asked for criticism then he would probably agree on many of your points, but you need to understand that the way you are giving your advice is exactly what ACBA does in their closed group as well, whether you want to believe it or not.

>God forbid you adventure out of these basics

It's called Articulated Comic Book Art. How is it art if the style enforced doesn't follow the basics of art?

You gotta know the rules before you break them. Anyone here think Hendrix played the way he did because he DIDN'T know how to play a guitar? If you wanna mash random keys and call it jazz be my guest. This thread is a jam session of sorts, just don't start groups with "art" in the title and make rules akin to "No minor keys allowed, every recording has to be in one take, btw plz buy our colored guitar picks."

Some of you are attributing my beef with the ACBA to me and/or flat out making shit up and putting words in my mouth when you're not twisting them. Like I've spelled out numerous times before >>7570383

Unlike the ACBA, I AM NOT gatekeeping a specific style of shooting. What I'm saying is that if you're going to do exactly that, as the ACBA does, it would help tremendously if you knew how to shoot in the first place.

>>At least I've seen some sort of progression with the acba style over the years.

That's because, like I said here >>7565488 The've recently started to not be as strict with their rules and its chipping away at the homogeny of the whole thing. Sgtbananas has even been featured a few times
>>
>>7575368
real talk, you’re not wrong, you’re just an asshole. How is that any different than the others on this board? Because What your saying is flipping the script on people’s concept of toy photography so by calling the ACBA bad, you’re implying that they’re bad too. The other and biggest reason you’re such an autism magnet is because you have a name, so if you’re going to keep doing that then just ignore them and let them hide behind their anonymity and in the meantime watch your “brand”

It’s the people trying to goad a reaction out of him that I’m more worried about. Even if they manage to chase LT84 off they’ll still be here which is just as bad if. It worse
>>
>>7575941
I'm not trying to goad a reaction out of him so much as I'm trying to make him understand that it's okay to not like something. He also needs to realize that ACBA isn't the problem with toy photography, it's people like him who don't see that people will shoot things they want to in the way that they want to, whether its through "proper photography techniques" or through "ACBA standards". He doesn't realize that the constructive criticism that he gives is exactly the same type that you will see on anyone's photo in the ACBA closed group whenever it's requested - you both are the same (not necessarily a bad thing as you make it out to be).

Also, D-Amazing isn't the authority on ACBA - it's boog_nice. Just an FYI, since he doesn't seem to realize this either.
>>
>>7576008
> I'm trying to make him understand that it's okay to not like something

I thought the issue was that he doesn’t like something and everyone can’t accept that. Where I’m from (Indonesia) they don’t do ACBA so much so it’s weird to see people defend a style that honestly doesn’t seem great to begin with but that is my opinion and my interpretation of what I have witnessed here.
>>
>>7574725
It's 1/6th scale, at least thats what it says on the bottom of the box. It has sloppy paint and other QC issues that a lot of Mafex figs from this era seem to suffer from. I photoshopped most of that out of the photos. Still looks great on display and comes with some neat accessories. If you can find it for cheap like I did ($35), go for it. Not really worth the retail asking price.

ACBA does what ACBA does. I'm sure plenty of them are well aware of the basics of photography and don't need to be bitched at over it. Their style isn't mine or many others cup of tea but it's far easier to blank them instead of getting worked up over the fact they do things in their own style.

Dropping a photo into the thread and asking for constructive criticism isn't actually all that helpful, include what your aims were when you took the photo, what your set up is, what you struggled with and then if you are open to an overall feedback or something more targeted to a specific aspect of your photo. After all, it would be pointless for me to just give feedback on a pose if the person in question was hoping for feedback about their lighting.
Though you shouldn't just rely on this thread as your source of learning as there are plenty of videos and guides over the internet that can teach you, use those as well as the feedback here.

>>7576669
His hatred for ACBA does make me laugh. I've seen a few photographers as well as follow a couple who take extremely similar pictures of toys outside. If I didn't know better then I'd have thought there was some sort of ACBA branch that deals with photos outdoors.
>>

Normies will at times stop to appreciate what I'm doing and sometimes even ask to take a pic of the skelly themselves. I’m inclined to say the latter but you’ve all surely picked up on that by now

>>7576736
>taking photos outdoors without looking like an autist.

Nobody actually cares.

Yeah it can be a little awkward to get “caught” but most people just ask if you’re doing stop motion. It’s the dogs you need to watch out for, coming up and sniffing shit, knocking things over etc. If you’re on a popular trail you’ll notice plenty of people with cameras because nature and whatnot so you blend in. It’s kinda like going to the gym; everyone’s too preoccupied with what they’re doing to notice or care what you’re doing.

I’ve only run into “trouble” twice in like 5 years. The first was when this douchey mountain biker stopped with this “what are you losers doing” vibe but I have a serious don’t fuck with me face and told him we were minding our own fucking business so he peddled on. Most recently I was in the tree line and this field trip of 11 year olds passed by and one heckled me “Nice backpack! are you playing Pokémon Go? Are you a Hobo?” And I chuckled and told them I was hiding bodies and the chaperone yelled “Keep walking!” at them. Kinda glad it happened since it was the only interesting thing to come out of that day. The light was ass and I was short on time and I wound up with pic related. I don’t even think I like it but it’s been too cloudy for a redo.

We all need to realize that ACBA also includes the outdoor photography and basic techniques that loadedtomcat84 encourages. Join the closed group on Facebook. They encourage framing, posing, etc but cutouts and dioramas aren't needed, they are just more common (there ARE outdoor photos there, sometimes). Tables shots might be discouraged but there are other toy groups you can join, maybe Toy Crew Buddies or something. Post your photo in the ACBA closed group (or what ever one you choose) , ask for constructive criticism and advice on what to improve, and you'll receive it. It's how I got my own start, even though I've eventually took my own route forward it was a start as far as knowing how to shoot things nicely (no, I did not use a diorama but a blank canvas). I average about 400-500 likes on instagram now since starting a year ago, if that matters at all.

Really try it, don't just shrug and say 'fuck ACBA' but really give it a shot and come back and tell us if you've gotten a satisfactory response.
>>
>>7577257
This. I can almost guarantee you that you will get a very similar response as >>7574716. I mean you WILL get turned away with like table shots and the like if you are looking to just do more lax content (that's what the other toy groups are for - the TCB group mentioned is one of them but there are quite a few around). Stay away from any of the toy photography reddits unless you are posting Marvel Legends.

But that's NOT THE POINT, THE POINT IS TO GET CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM FROM MORE THAN JUST THIS THREAD. I fucking hate you retards.
>>
Can a mod look at this fucking thread?
If this isn't a case for getting loadedautist the fuck out of here, I don't know what is. Too bad his pics are bretty gud, but he needs to go.

That wont fix the real problem as >>7575941 pointed out.

lol you can’t get banned for knocking on the ACBA. You trying to rally people can border on a call to raid which can get you banned and like the other anon said even if you manage to get rid of him the real cancer remains

Something else I forgot to mention. If you’re shooting in an urban setting you gotta watch out for security guards. I was surprised to find they had two guards posted at a parking garage.

I had to haggle the guard to give me 10 minutes which is no where near enough time. Got pic related though.

Something else I never came across but have always been paranoid about are hostile bums.
>>
>>7579851
Which one’s better?
>>
>>7579854
Both are poorly lit
>>
>>7579864

The guard only gave me 10 minutes so I had to rack them out ASAP. Which is better?
>>
>>7579870
First, and that's HAVING to pick one as both are terrible for posing, lighting, backgrounds etc.
>>
>>7579854
I think the first one is better.
>>
>>7579854
Kinda both? The angle is better in the first but the lighting and background is better in the second. I wouldn’t listen to >>7579882 since I think he’s just being a hater. I’ll agree that the lighting could be better but the pose is very Spidey as is the background. Not sure if they’d just prefer it was a monitor or a dio.
>>
>>7579934
>I think he’s just being a hater
Wrong but okay.
>>
What I really needed was more than 10 minutes to make tweaks and shit. I mean these are just the raw photos but I didn’t end up having much to work with. The post editing is being a nightmare.

I also cranked this one out, it obviously suffers from the same issues but I was able to make slightly more sense out of it in post in post since that Snyder look is very filtery.

Overall not a complete waste but still a missed opportunity given that I had no time. I’ll probably give it another shot when I get back from vacay. Maybe I’ll add birds. I think these would both benefit by having birds flying into frame.
>>
>>7579851
>>7579854
The first one is better, from posing to sense of scale.

>>7580207
Love the cape. The pose is kinda funky, though.

I like them. The mix of cartoony figure with lots of details. Specially the dot eyes and the fact that there’s enough variation in faces.

Mega figures are definitely an acquired taste, though.

Pity both versions have all that chrome, which at minimum requires a coat of pledge before you do anything, and even that may not protect it.

The update version was ass and didn't even get a Cybershark recolor.

ANother for fun. Took me a few minute to decide what snacks he woud liek. I don't see him as a boozer and I don't see him drinking soda. I had the teacup from a bulk Chinese order of random stuff and I put wood stain in it to make dark tea. My other half and I like to set up a figure of whatever we're watching so they can see their own show.

One of my "kids" lives in Surprise, near Phoenix. I've been there a few times, you can actually melt your shoes on the asphalt if you wear cheap sneakers.

I really dig this, also is that the Figuarts SpIke.

Usually I don't care for the mixing of scales but I like it in that photo. Nice room building as well. You should do a whole dollhouse.

I think I may have that horse. IS that a repainted Greyskull facade? I don't think it is but something is familiar about it.

I was thinking that! Maybe heavily modified.

I don't know what it is about those things but in college (02-04 at first) I found two at thrift stores and one in the trash when I used to dumpster dive. I did miniatures sets with them.

I can see that being the playschool castle and he filled in the drop down bit on the left with putty and blacked out some of the other bits from within.

Looking at it more as I type this, I think you nailed it.
