I display my mocs when i MOC'ed them to the point i dont want to add anything else but also don't want to destroy what i built.

Why is Lego so hesitant to make brickheads of their own characters?

Imagine:

>Classic Spaceman
>Pirate

>Because nobody knows who that is. They make more money with super heroes and star wars and stuff like that.
that's lego's fault
That's what you get for being shitty license-whore and Disney's cum-bitch instead of expanding your own universe.
PS:
Still im pretty sure people KNOW and CARE about major lego main line characters like those nexo knights or Laval from Legends of Chima. they not that forgotten and pretty iconic looking.
Releasing at least 4 famous KLOCKI characters would be great.
but no
Lego keeps feeding shitty geek girls with this funko pop rejects

>>
>>7274453
Aw crap, I hate it when the seasonal sets are brickheaded monstrosities. Mind you that ghost is pretty sweet looking and that deer looks like he's killed before. I might have to get at least those two but I do prefer the minifig vignettes more.
>>
>>7274650
Now that you pointed it out I can't stop seeing those as nipple tassels
>>
>>7274532
>Why is Lego so hesitant to make brickheads of their own characters?

Because Brickheadz are aimed straight at the casual "nerd" collectors who buy things based on what famous franchise they are from, not aimed at Lego fans. These things emulate the style of Funko Pops which are pretty much iconic as a normie "nerd" collectable. Of course it's going to be Star Wars, Harry Potter and Superheroes.

Out of the people who are into Brickheadz you'd have maybe 10% who would care enough about Johnny Thunder to buy one.

And it doesn't matter now anyway since Brickheadz as a retail sub-line are dead in 2019 and it will only continue in the form of exclusives and promos.
>>
>>7274532
I buy a good deal of Lego and remember the old themes. I would only ever buy a brickhead for parts. the idea of a minifig as a brickhead is so eye rollingly dumb as to detach my retina.

I feel you, and anons like you, live in such a bubble you can't even comprehend that; comfy-kino-klocki-classic insert theme, is not universally loved.

if every classic theme were re-released and expanded on, I would not buy them. I don't understand anons who don't build mocs. if you like things that aren't released build them yourself.
>>
>>7274668
>I feel you, and anons like you, live in such a bubble you can't even comprehend that; comfy-kino-klocki-classic insert theme, is not universally loved.

I think people remember such themes fondly if they're old enough but I also think that since those themes didn't really have a heavily marketed story from Lego that people don't passionately love them. They see a Johnny Thunder minifig and they're like "Oh cool Johnny Thunder, I played with him" but since there's no canon big stories or such there's nothing for nostalgia to latch onto specifically other than a general love for building and playing with Lego.

Hell, I think most people who are fans of pre-Bionicle themes have their own stories and ideas that they made up as kids that they probably feel more nostalgia for than any "official" versions of those sets. Like, everyone my age pretended that the "sensors" on the classic space sets were guns and went PEW PEW PEW, despite classic space officially being "peaceful".

I'm getting addicted to brickheadz.
I own four now and each of them I have enjoyed building so so much, it's a great mix of form and function. I can't explain it well but I love that it has a stock-standard kind of skeleton, with the add-on details that form the character, it's a really enjoyable experience for me and I have loved the pieces in each set so far.

not rubber like the tires, but definitely softer. Might be the same plastic as is used for plants and some spikes/teeth. It feels slightly harder than those though, but I think that's because it's thicker

actually anon I also enjoy this type of thing as well, and it was a part of the reason I purchased the set, I jsut haven't found time yet to really delve into the weird non-canon nature or history of it. Do you happen to know any good spots where I can start? I think I read in a review on the lego website where someone wrote... hold on a sec i'll fnid it

"As a fan of all things Star Wars, this humble set blew me away. It may seem like an unexpected variation of a standard T-47 Airspeeder, but with the changes to the build and the history here, it’s a collectors dream.
First off, this appears to be a nod to the prototype for a Sandspeeder toy that was originally planned by Kenner in the 80’s, albeit with a slightly updated color scheme. Second, anyone watching A New Hope closely will notice this is the first release of John D. Branon’s (Red Four) Helmet in Lego form. Finally, the gunner is sporting what appears to be the helmet Rey wore on Jakku in The Force Awakens.
Beyond being a fun and interesting set, the little references make this a set that can be enjoyed by kids and appreciated by collectors. Recommended."

Late gen Y opinion: If I didn't have so much of it beforehand I'd say 2001. Life on mars, the first wave of Studios, the first wave of Harry Potter, the first wave of Bionicle, tons of old school Star Wars including buildable Technic figures and Phantom menace, Pirates rereleases,
Xalax
. However I already own a lot of stuff from that year, so gotta go with 1998 too. Pretty legendary stuff there, the Pharaoh temple set looks fucking awesome.

I'm not a fan of it either. The garage seems almost completely empty, aside from the 'car area' there's just a counter and some tires. Same with the top floor apartment, there's just so much unused space, which feels even emptier given the minifig selection.

The vet's office is literally the only saving grace for me, lots of pretty details and nice divide between the waiting room and office.
>>
>>7275317
There're no "bootlego bricks". 90%+ of them are in public domain. Just the recent ones aren't.

That's a trademark issue.

The minifigs are trademark, so using them in a specific ways breaks the trademark over the minifigs... LEGO has no other trademark for the bricks. Specially because this system was created by Kiddicraft.
>>
>>7275348
the reception was pretty lukewarm. Personally I'm going to skip it
>>
>>7275357
To be fair, I'm not too interested in the interior as much as I want cool looking exteriors. All of my modulars so far were bought because I loved the look of the building on display. The Diner, Detective Office, Parisian Restaurant, Brick Bank, hell even the Old Fishing Store all have really amazing interiors (especially the Detective's Office IMO), but they don't matter as much. The apartment building above the garage is serviceable, sure, but it doesn't draw me in.
>>
Since we're talking about modulars what do you guys think of the Assembly Square. My girlfriend and I have made it a hobby out of buying a modular a year and building them together, but we skipped the Assembly Square and bought an older modular because of price reasons. However, since it's only like $80 more than the garage but easily 1.5x as valuable, we're thinking about diving in
>>

You basically got it all. Maybe search for T-47 on Wookiepedia and look up related models. There should be one or two airspeeders with different color. I think a T-38 was used by Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan in a comic miniseries in the early 00s. West End RPG Sourcebooks also have a lot of fluff text where the idea of non-Snow variants came first into canon since those Kenner toys were never really canon.

Almost got this set today but it's 170$ canadian for 1200 pieces, and desu it doesn't look that great.. I like the idea of it, lots of little things I can build over time as I get the urge, add to my modular experts.. but desu the buildings suck. One is just glass, the hotel doesn't really even have rooms or anything. I think itd look shitty next to my expert modulars. I like the vehicles and subway and the idea though.

I got a racecar pack with a dodge challenger instead
>>
>>7277030
I'm the complete opposite of you, all of that set is useful anywhere else in your city if you know what you're looking for. The glass museum can be enlarged with the museum break-in and a $25 Bricklink order. The hotel is really where it's at though, as I have a plan to make it better then the grand emporium, but that's just me. As to the new garage modular I'll be the first to say that not only do I not like it, I'm kinda super sick of the old "Americana" aesthetic in these sets, I don't think it'd kill them to do one modernized set.
>>
>>7277052
I should say, when I say it doesnt look that great, I mean as a value. 170$ for 1200 pieces is a bad value, when I can get assembly square for 4000 pieces. This is half the cost of that.

Otherwise, it does look like it has nice stuff. And it'd really flesh out my city..

Fuck now im tempted again.

Years ago I made minifigs of my brother and his wife and gave them to them as a gift. Now they did not know about the CMF series so they had no clue how many different face and torso prints there were. My sister-in-law was the easiest. I just got a babysitter minifig and changed out the hair piece. She has a sweet disposition so the face matched with her and she also loves unique t-shirts so the pug with glasses is something she would wear if it was a real shirt. Plus they have a young son so the baby piece fit too. It all started though because I realized the Samurai from series 1 had a face just like my brother. Same facial hair and serious look. He is really a fun guy but somehow his face or bone structure gives him a naturally severe look. I even gave them three Friends pugs because they had three pugs of their own at that time. I also gave my other brother a Gamer Guy minifig because we both agreed it was like he was looking in a tiny lego mirror. Just changed the torso to that DJ shirt since his college degree was in "post-production sound design." and swapped out the controller for a microphone. I also updated my nephew by making a short minifig with a ball. Seriously this kid thinks any kind of ball is the best toy ever. This Thanksgiving I finally got pics of all the minifigs of my family that I made together in one place. Also did, me, my brothers, and sister-in-law in matching mandalorian armor and posed like some kind of recruitment poster.

thanks. and here is a shot of all of us as regular minifigs. I tried to capture intrests and other traits in these figs. My youngest brother like I said majored in Sound Desgin in college so the headphones, shirt, and microphone all try to convay that. I'm a truck driver and a bit heavy so I went with a head with glasses and a headset and since tropical shirts are associated with fat guys it seemed like a good match. The scepture is actually like one I made, just cut a cane short that was topped with a dragon claw holding a glass orb. Thought it would look cool. And I already explained my other brother and his wife and son.

It's a real fkn shame they didn't make the demons stickers transparent. I dont know wtf they made it yellow either. Seems like a real marketing ploy from Lego at times, Camaro release had the recent camaro in red, INSTEAD of yellow to match up with transformers bumblebee, now this demon in yellow, not in red, with yellow stickers, such a waste zzzzzzz

Okay so hear me out guys, you know how the last pirates line flopped so it might not be commercially viable for Lego to make entire lines of unlicensed classic themes old fans want? So how about a "adventure island" type line? You could have castaways survival, pirate hideouts, dinosaurs, Indiana Jo- I mean, Johnny Thunder-type ancient ruins, sunken city underwater. etc. Basically it would integrate a lot of different classic themes at a smaller scale.

Thoughts?

Fluffy question: If you could design a modular building, what era would you set it in and what would the three floors consist of?

A large gatehouse with square floor section, where the modular option is to add walls around a settlement, not unlike the idea from the 2013 line but on a much larger scale.

First floor is a gate through which people, horses and wagons may pass, including drawbridge and portcullis. To one of the sides is a room where you can take people to the side for whatever reason before they are allowed to proceed.
The second floor is a living area for guards, with a room with a few bunk beds, a living room with a fireplace and games, and some kind of pantry or kitchen area.
Third floor, armoury, quite a lot of weapons and other appropriate things. There is also access to the roof, from which guards can shoot arrows and other nasty stuff on whoever tries to get through without permission.

This is not overly detailed but now I kind of want to build something like this. I probably don't have enough pieces, but what the hell.

I'll be honest, I've never been a huge fan of neither Ninjago or Nexo Knights, especially Nexo Knights. Just...why? Lately though the Asian aesthetic of some sets really appeals to me, I might if nothing else get a few of the cheaper sets, like city chase or some of the TLNM sets that seem to be dropping in price faster than I can keep up with. Nexo though I just really want to like, but just don't. Some of their sets are rock bottom priced but I just can't justify pulling the trigger on Nexo when Ninjago has a more useful parts to aesthetic for me. Life is damning, then you make the wrong choice and somehow make things worse.

This mural, along with a comfy holiday display, was set up in downtown Toronto when I was visiting earlier this week. Apparently the whole thing was built by the public, though I don't know how. It was larger than life though, definitely worth seeing. The use of those new-ish triangular pieces to make the picture change depending on the angle was particularly ingenuitive.

From left, Jane Stackerton, daughter of the famous Sheriff Sam Stackerton who was famously killed by outlaws that have yet to be apprehended. She loves a good fight, and that custom steamrifle she's toting can famously drop a Friends beetle at a hundred baseplates. Jane's the reason they're all together, as she's brought her one-woman war on crime to the uncharted regions of the New West.

Next is the inestimably ingenious Winnifred Corkley, inventrix and inspired inheritor of the Corkley family investments. Winnie was only too happy to join up with Jane on her quest for justice, as this gives her a perfect chance to field-test all her most outlandish ideas!

That exotic beauty is Ling-Sue, a deadly beauty with the pneumatikatana whose beauty hides her deadly skills! Also she helps out when they're running a con that requires two sexy girls.

The best is best saved for last, so behold the bodacious beauty of Belle d'Bustier, a bountiful bait of benefit whenever that most base of biddings must be brought to bear. She has big boobies.

Well, when Jane and her girls finally bagged Pollo Loco, they thought they'd taken care of the trouble in the territories, but as it would turn out, their problems were just beginning...

It seemed that he was the younger brother to the real leader of the banditos, and Pollo Enojado wasn't going to let this insult to his family stand. Even if he couldn't stand his little brother, he hated law and order even more.

Of course, once the governor of the territories got wind of what Jane was up to, he started sweating like a snowball in a forest fire. After all, if those ladies were prying into the criminal world, it wouldn't be too long before they figured out what he was up to.

That's when the Governor put out the call to the worst cut-throats, cut-purses, and cut-rate killers he could find...

The Carter clan. A bunch of half-breed hucksters, they seemed to have heavy helping of hoodoo wherever they turned up... and wherever they were, somebody usually turned up dead.
>>
To make matters worse, all that dust Jane and her girls was kicking up was bad for business as far as the head of the criminal underworld around these parts was concerned, and Madam Rouge was always one to live by the adage, "If you want a job done right, do it yourself."

Ordered my Brick Bank on backorder. So happy I was able to get it. Now to get Diner and Assembly Square before they run out, but I'll get those in 3 and 6 months or something.

I love the modulars!

Well if you build stuff regurarly then get something like >>7279078.

If not and you only have a couple of containers then, separate by size first. Specifically sort out the small pieces that always diappear in the pile.
Then go by type like bricks, plates, techinc, minifigs, etc.
Sorting by colour while looks neat isn't really important.

If you can't separate them into different container then.
Connect the same kind of pieces. Only do it with parts that you can easily take apart, like the smaller bricks or slopes. Or connect them on the edges.
Put your pins into a long technic brick. Put your pieces with an axle hole like cogs on a long axle.
Don't take everything apart unless you like to build them from the start.

I THINK CORNER GARAGE SUCKS

I know this isn't a new opinion, but still. A vet clinic... on top of a garage? I dunno. There's one set a year so it's kinda disappointing. At least I still have other modulars to catch up on..
>>
>>7279142
I agree. I had been anxiously awaiting the modular for 2019 only to be let down. The diner was nice. I enjoyed the build and colors. I have most of the other modular and have modified to my liking. I'll end up getting the garage, building it to say I built it, and then modding it to my liking.
>>
>>7279181
>>7279181
Oh and the $200 price tag??? I see this as a trend of all modular buildings being this price or higher moving forward. Think about it 5 modular buildings is a grand.

I'm glad I buy used in bulk and build my own stuff.
(I'm the winter city-builder and soon will be "Back on the Brick") Hope everyone had a good summer.

Day 8

Nobody wanted this. Stop giving us generic battledroids every year

Went to my local toy shop to look for the new sets, but like the lego store they only had the marvel stuff. I did however see these knockoff baseplates. Seemed decent quality and what i really liked is that they were actually a plate thick, unless the ones from lego. It‘s cut off, but at the bottom they had 4-packs and one of them even had transparent plates (clear, red, blue, green I think)

Fucking phones
Oh and they are 32x32, even though it says 10x10 on the packaging

Lads, I need help.

Can buy pic related for 60 bucks. Is it worth it?
>>
>>7279230
Not gonna lie, I kind of wanted this...
>>
>>7279259
I‘d say yes, but I‘m very biased, since the original is one of my all time favourite mocs.
It‘s full of great greebling parts, a fun build and two cool minifigs.
Gets a robotortoise/10 from me
>>
>>7279262
Is it....fun to play with? I don't just wanna pose.
>>
>>7279265
yeah, they Lego made an effort to make it much more stable than the original when they redesigned it. The only parts that might pop off when playing are the different "antennas" on top. The elbows could have a bit more range, but everything else is pretty great. It's also the perfect base to make modified designs or maybe different weapon attachments for the arms
>>
>>7279258
It always amazes me that LEGO allows this in retail stores. You can clearly see the LEGO branded plates in the background. I'd say if the price is right, buy them and see how they work out. What store is this? I'd be interested in getting some myself if close or a chain.
>>
>>7279287
>What store is this?
It's an independent store in Germany, so you'll probably have to look online for "strictly Bricks".
I'll probably get some next time I visit, I wanted to get the transparent ones, but they were much more expensive than the others and I didn't have time to check out all the colours in the single packs.
I was quite surprised to find them in the store, as I said they are independent, but they seem to have quite a good relation with Lego, they've often gotten sets really early, some exclusive stuff and have often been part of some "Lego tours" where a truck comes by and there's some little attractions for children (I still remember the giant bouncy house Sentai mountain...)
>>

seconding >>7279280

It's a really nice set. IMO the best mech Lego's ever made. It's the only set I never tore down for parts, I just keep modifying it a little at a time, adding guns and jump jets and stuff.
>>
>>7279258
10 inch by 10 inch, dumbass.
>>
>>7279323
Are those the measurements for 32x32 plates? I wouldn't know and it doesn't make much sense to advertise them that way in a German shop, especially to children.
>>
>>7279303
Ahh cool. Yea a google here in the states didn't net me any local finds for "Strictly Bricks"

Thanks for the follow up though.

I just bought a box of used LEGO weighing about 20 lbs. for $30 and for once it was all LEGO with only a few other toys mixed in but no Mega or other knockoffs. Sitting on top was a the Technic Crane set #8289 intact but built as the alternate. The spare bricks were in a Ziploc bag though along with all of the original instructions so I'll probably sell that off as I don't do Technic and already have a ton of those parts from various lots I've bought.

Also in this box was some Harry Potter, Castle Stuff, and Elves along with a ton of common brick. (Which isn't so common these days in regular sets.)

Yea. I'm looking at a few other lots really reasonable too but it's a bit of a drive to get them. I've been spoiled by a lot of local finds lately. I'm going to have a hell of a time sorting. But eh, what a problem to have!

My personal experience is it has a lot of finicky bits that love to fall off and are hard to get back into place without accidentally popping out more stuff. Especially the gdamn shoulder pieces! Still I enjoy it a lot (though I rarely use it for displays). I love the figs, though, and that roboturt is the best. I built three more and plan on building others. There was a thread quite some time ago when /lg/ talked about them. I think someone posted a moc for an M-Tron verison and we were talking about others we could make. I think my favorite was the clear parts to make a stealth version. Obviously not 100% possible since some of those parts just don't come in clear.

I do love this version with the minigun.

YES

IIRC Lego used an ancient parts mold for the robot arms there, so they ended up really loose. I replaced the whole assembly with these, which actually stay in place and look better:

Torso and dress slope are Rootbeer Belle from the TLM CMF series

Hairpiece is the CMF Queen
