So who do you think the blood ravens are successors of?
>Dark Angels:
+secretive
+do a lot of traitorous shit
+'knowledge is power, guard it well'
-Very few dark angels successors
-Dark Angels successors all tied closely to their founding chapter

>Blood Angels
+red colour scheme, BA successors almost ALL have a primarily red colour scheme
+blood in name
+lots of terminators
-no black rage or red thirst
-no other ties to legion
-similar in name only

>Raven Guard
+'ravens'
+lots of assault marines
-no geneseed flaws
-lots of dreadnoughts and psykers

>Ultramarines
+fuckton of successor chapters, easy to lose some
+no apparent geneseed mutations
-no similarity in traits
-mocking adherence to the codex astartes, famously uses tactics badly, such as an offensive tactic for defense

>Thousand Sons
+Fuckton of psykers
+Fuckton of dreadnoughts(thousand sons invented psyker dreadnoughts)
+obsession with knowledge
+apparently shameful founding
+uses a fuckton of foreseeing to win battles
+inquisition was on their way to exterminatus them when the eye of terror opened
-no flesh change mutation
-not dust
-chapter history doesn't come close to the heresy
-laurie golding and ADB say no

Thousand sons, obviously. BL writers are not to be trusted anyway. It never occurred to me that they could be anything else.

Less psykers than the TS is mostly because they don't use fucking Prospero to recruit, and for the mutations... Same reason, I guess. Plus, maybe it has been changed. Don't know.

I FUCKING FOUND IT

From ahriman: Exile

Ahriman was suddenly aware of a presence beyond those doors, a presence that burned in the warp
like a bound star. It had a shape and structure, an outline formed by disciplines that were as familiar
to him as his own hands.
The guards were moving to the doors, their movements dream-slow to Ahriman’s eyes. He
blinked…
>…A raven rising from a plain of dust, red drops falling from its feathers, its wings swallowing the sunlight…
The doors were opening. He looked down at his hands, the vision still swimming through his mind.
A sickly warmth was spreading through his body, prickling his skin, filling his mouth with the taste of
nausea.
No, he thought, and the word was a desperate scream in his head. I am not that man. I failed. He
wanted to run but he could not move. He looked up, as the high doors swung wide…
>…The raven turned on the wind, looking at him with sapphire eyes…

Chapter obsessed with learning the forbidden knowledge regarding its past and to learn the answer would surely destroy them
Unknowingly making the same mistakes as their likely ancestors by pursuing said forbidden knowledge. Even the memes can be incredibly 40k in theme in context. If they truly are a splinter of thousand sons who fled prospero before the yiffing arrived, they would have made every attempt to obfuscate their origin during the heresy by discarding their wargear and acquiring as many pieces of found equipment and relics of other legions as possible so that they could hide as blackshields and later return as a chapter of 'mysterious origin'. The modern chapter, not realizing this intentional misdirection created by their founders, is actively working against itself by just being who they are: self destructively curious grandchildren of the cyclops.

Gorgutz was great too (but heh, when wasn't he?)

Unfortunately the game was casualized and streamlined for esport and has C.S.Goto level bullshit like termie balerina, flamers being an active action instead of a passive upgradethey did to the meltaguns, the fucking demon that was a fucking pussy... At least they tried to make flanking more useful by making a good use of the Landspeeder able to fuck up a tank in a 1v1.
Lot of ppl complained about the flashs and shit, my only complain is that there was too much of it.

The Deathwing one is pretty good too once you get the force axe. Black holes, Exploding people, zapping genestealers with lightning every second and *teleports into you* is pretty cool.

>Mydudes have been wreaking havoc on the enemy's logistics and opportunistically destroying reserves, so the suit force shouldn't even be in a position to make aggressive action if it still exists
>Even if they attack, all focus is on restricting their ability to move before annihilating them, which means shutting down the local airspace via any means and pumping as much heavy firepower into them from concealed positions as possible

It's unfortunately true. The original DoW introduced me to 40k when it came out. I'm just glad I looked into what the other armies that weren't represented in the game were like.

There's nothing wrong with having been introduced to it by DoW, so long as you branch out and appreciate the wider hobby/backstory.

If someone is just quoting the game's lines over and over again as they play, or counting anything that happens in them as canon, then yes, they're a massive faggot, but most people who actually took the effort to get into the game proper expanded their interest beyond just Gabe's thieving, cuntish antics.

I have a chaos army that I've been building up quickly and painting very slowly. I've had the general jist of their history from the start, but haven't done much with it.

The Redamant Corpse, formerly Redamant Throne, have a fairly unknown history. Their story begins with them fighting insurrections with they fleet that they were based out of. They eventually stopped on a system surrounded by warp storms and orks. They set up shop and began fortifying their position. Hive worlds turned to complete fortress worlds and the chapter basically forced the planetary governors to form large armies and PDF forces. Think of doomsday preppers telling people what to do and those people actually doing it. Trenches, bunkers, and walls were erected and traps set everywhere for over a century. The chapter forced everyone to prepare for a war that never really came. And the Imperium looked away from them as nothing happened where they were and they were well secured.

The Chapter had the idea of sending out one company at a time on crusades far away to keep their experience up. They often had high losses and always had to recruit from their fortress worlds. At least officially. Most of their dead marines were actually still alive and hidden away until they were needed. The chapter officially only had 1000 marines, but it was more closer to 3000. Why they did this? No one knows.

Pic related are the first 5 and only marines I've painted. Didn't like my ability here so I decided on painting other things first.

>But the Inquisition are part of the High Lords.
False. There is an Inquisitorial Representative among them, but Inquisition is outside their jurisdiction, since only the Emperor is above them in authority.
If an Inquisitor has proof, he can declare a High Lord a heretic no problem.

2. deathwatch brigade [9 CP] + [3CP]
HQ x3
1 watch master
2 watch captains

troops x6
3x 5 intercessors squad (3 aggressors)
3x 5 veterans with SB + SS

elites x3
1x tartaros terminator
2x venerable dreadnought with twin lascannons

fast attack 3
1x suppressor
1x interceptor
1x landspeeder

Havocs are way better. They have access to legion traits (CSM's don't apply to vehicles yet), cacophany of slaanesh, and better anti-horde. Havocs also have much better movement by being able to move without a penalty to shooting and can hide in cover more easily. Preds are okay if you have 3 so you can make use of killshot.

The chapter specializes in siege warfare and are great at keeping attrition high. Due to the chapter's insane idea of propping up the planetary PDF, they have little in the terms of heavy armor and weaponry. They would rather the Guard have 10 Leman Russes than have 3 Predators for themselves, etc. This does come back to bite them, but they make up for it by forcing the governors to send auxiliary forces (Those 10 Leman Russes). Basically the marines are elite infantry with a little of their own armor supported by weak meatshields and their armor. Later on when the great rift opens up they buy shit from the dark mechanicus as well.

The chapter has only had 1 psyker in their ranks. They might have a recruit come in with psychic abilities, but some final destination shit happens and the weaker psyker is always killed off. This means the Chapter psyker gets stronger and stronger with every change. Only downsides are there is one psyker and the final destination shit has a lot of collateral damage.

The 1st company is always specialized in the way the current chapter master (Praetor) desires. Currently Syfal is the Praetor and the 1st company are jump pack troops. Great for shock and awe when a breach is made in the enemy lines.

Pic related are ran as Chaos Marauders. Tech thrall bodies with Catachan arms and home made shotguns from flamers.

>>68317323
Syfal himself may not be a follower of chaos. He made a plan based on what the demon told him and having everyone around him turn to chaos was a part of that plan.

Suddenly it is 930.M41. Syfal is declared Praetor as the previous one died. Syfal is doing the usual and making new fortification diagrams in his study. He is suddenly approached by a feathery looking demon thing. Syfal does what any good Imperial servant does and engages the thing in glorious hand to claw combat, except the demon would rather talk. After an entire day of it talking to him, either dodging his hits or taking them without damage, Syfal begins to listen. A dire prophecy of death and the fall of the Imperium. Syfal listens and begins to plan. If the enemy tells you their plan, would you not use it to your advantage? More fortifications and mass conscriptions.

Some seriously heretical shit begins to happen behind the scenes. Clone factories churning out millions and millions of able-bodied soldiers over the next 100 years. Some discreet transactions between certain parties for ancient weaponry. Cults allowed to spread and thrive under a few certain rules.

The great rift opens. The Imperium is cut in half, chaos and Chaos everywhere. Except in the Redamant Throne's systems. Seceding from the Imperium was rather simple as they had had little contact with them for centuries. Some changes were made now that they didn't have to follow certain rules. Non-Astartes psykers were allowed into the chapter's structure (they still are affected by the final destination shit, but not as bad) and the guard units were now fully under the Praetor's command. Cults roamed the streets killing any and all Imperial loyalists.

I've had a few ideas where to go from here. I've had the idea the Chapter wanted a certain item on a Feudal world governed by an inquisitor guarding an imprisoned demon. I'd love the idea of an inquisitor forcing peasants with black powder weapons fighting against marines. I've also had the idea of a grot rebellion spilling over and being a nuisance once in a while.

>Looking down at the new scout’s hands, as though ready to shake one of them, Gabriel’s eyes widened in horror. In place of hands, Ckrius had grown strange fleshy stumps with a series of intertwining tendrils protruding where fingers should have been. The tendrils swayed delicately and interlaced into a sequence of solid forms that approximated hands.

>He hesitated, weighing up the possible alternatives in his head. He thought back through the incredible pain and suffering that the neophyte had endured, all the tests that he had passed, and finally thought back to the spirit that the youthful fighter had shown against the orks when he had first encountered him on Tartarus. Most likely, yes.
>796.M37 The Tower of Flesh The Haemonculi stronghold known as the Tower of Flesh is created – a living, breathing fortress, made of the bodies of those who defied the Coven of the Thirteen Scars. The renegade Space Marine Fabius Bile is tutored in the dark arts within its blood-slicked halls. Bile is accompanied to the Dark City by Lucius the Eternal, who is declared by his ‘hosts’ – the Wych Cult of the Wrath Unbound – to be endlessly entertaining both on and off the arena floor.
At the end of Clonelord he received a map to the Dark City, and that novel was set around M36 or M37, so the timing is right.

How are the Emperor's Spear novels? I'm intrigued by the fluff justification of putting multiple chapters with different Tactics in the same list, and want to know more so I can screw with my local That Guy, but after trying to read Praetorian of Dorn just for the payoff of seeing Alpharius unquestionably killed off forever, I'm cautious of more dry, stale 40k novels.

If the word of a Word Bearer is worth anything, the Emperor's Children are back together in M42. Fuck knows when or how it happened, or what they've been doing in all the hundreds of years since the Cadian Gate broke, but they "seem more united now than they ever have been."

Unironically the black legion is pretty cool. While other groups might represent Chaos as a whole better, none fit the mold of what a Chaos Space Marine is more than the Black Legion. Oppose to Ultramarines being known for Codex Astartes, Black Legion is known for just hating the Imperium's guts and wanting it destroyed. They stick to specific fighting style, allowing for a variety of tactics to be acceptable. They can old grizzled Sons of Horus, or a new warband that just got adsorbed either out of being conquered or out of convince, or they could be filled with excommunicated marines from all sorts of chapters. They can range from non-religious to hardcore into the chaos gods. They allow for someone being generally into the dark gods as a subsitute for loyalists praising the emperor, to using them for free gifts, to believing into undivided similar to Word Bearers, to flat out monotheism. Your guys could be in it to pillage and kill shit, or they could be less chaos influenced and just want to take the Imperium down a peg with support from a larger army. They are such a large and versatile legion that on a small scale anything could happen. Between all legions, they have the most yourdudes potential well also being perfect if you don't give a shit and just want army of faceless killers. Honestly as far as making a generic evil guys go GW did a really good job with the Black Legion.

She's not his waifu and though her soul is bound to her flesh, it's not a fix for the problem of Slaanesh. She's dead, and essentially in indentured slavery to a Chaos sorcerer. And she still requires slaves to replenish herself while in Eyespace. What he's achieved is similar to spirit stones and wraith constructs but far less reliable and entirely contingent on the mercy and good fortune of a sorcerer.

> Armageddon, Ghazkull and Yarrick?
Amusingly, this got interrupted by Chaos, of all things. Angron punched his way into Realspace along with Khorne's Brass Legions, and tried to set up on Armageddon since it was close and he needed a base. There was a temporary truce while both kicked the Demon Primarch off their planet, and now they're rallying from that and regrouping to start kicking each other again.

> What about the Necrons waking up?
Has happened. They're currently playing power games among themselves, mostly, but there's also a B-plot where Crypteks from a bunch of Dynasties are trying to rebuild the anti-warp monoliths Abbadon destroyed and re-seal the Great Rift.

>Apis looked at them. ‘Our Legion is dying, brothers.’

>‘I told you,’ Gernt muttered. Saper sighed.

>‘Be silent. I am being serious. The Urizen has abandoned us. Kor Phaeron, Erebus, the rest of the Dark Council, they war with one another while the galaxy burns around them. The Black Legion conquers new territories, the Death Guard march in the shadow of Mortarion’s wings, even the godsdamned Emperor’s Children seem more united now than they ever have been. And where are we? Where are the forerunners – those of us who saw the truth and embraced it earliest?’

Also, it's funny that the EC are the only legion he'll curse about. Mind you, there's another Bearer in the same novel who agrees his legion is broken, but adds they at least aren't broken so badly as the EC, so I guess there are differences of opinion on this matter.

>the Fallen (numbering in the tens of thousands at least)
>Typhus (and presumably many of his affiliate Death Guard)
>the Adeptus Custodes
>Roboute Guilliman (and more or less everyone who accompanied him from the Maelstrom in the Terran Crusade, including xenos)
>the Grey Knights (and quite likely their affiliate Ordo Malleus)
>the Changeling (and presumably many other daemons)
Not counting the millions, perhaps billions of people who saw the Fallen when they marched with Guilliman on Terran soil. They wouldn't really know what they were looking at. But the Inquisition and Terran lordship might know enough to at least raise an eyebrow or two at the sight of unknown Space Marine legionaries walking next to a primarch. And I dunno, Huron and a bunch of other Chaos lords would probably have an idea after the Terran Crusade, if not before. Plus whatever Imperials had deal with Fallen mercenaries in the ten thousand years since the destruction of Caliban.

As secrets go it's a pretty open one.

The only thing we know is that primaris marines go through the scout duties. Whether they use primaris versions of existing scout gear or the same old ones we don't know. It's reasonable to assume they are too large for standard carapace armor so we'll get primaris scouts down the line, but if/when is anybody's guess.
>>
>>68319117

It seems weird that Primaris would have scouts when they have infiltrators, instigators and reivers.
>>
>>68319073
>100,000 dollars worth of stuff

That's what they tell the insurers, what they've actually lost is $10 of plastic
>>

>>
>>68319125
I recall reading about Primaris never touching scout and going straight to some of the Not! Scout units
Didn't read much because marine lore got so 8land after 5th, that I simply could not finish reading the "and then, and then, super strong"
>>
>>68319125
Primaris still go through the implantation process in the same timeframe as normal marines. A scout is a fieldable asset years before all his implants are fully mature and he can be implanted with Black Carapace and wear his armor. They also need actual real world experience.

>>
>>68319142
Do primaris marines get the black carapace implanted before the new primaris implants or after? Since the thing hardens beneath the skin, having it implanted after the body has super-sized feels like the thing to do (hence why it's the last implant given to normal marines, after the body has fully matured). Then again, they turn old marines into primaris without any mention of the carapace, so I don't know if the writers even care at this point.

The burning hulls of destroyed Astartes craft rained onto the killing fields, pulverising Word Bearers and Night Lords more often than they crashed into the few remaining pockets of Raven Guard and Salamanders survivors. When contacted by Legion commanders protesting the careless destruction, the Iron Warriors captains replied with laughter that bordered on betrayal.

>‘We are all bleeding today,’ an Iron Warriors captain voxed back to Kor Phaeron. ‘Have faith, Word Bearer.’ The link went dead to the sound of chuckling.

>>
>>68319412
That's massive trauma, though. The carapace grows into the body over a period of months and interfaces with your nerves. Ripping it all out would not be easy and is likely to cause permanent damage.
>>
>>68319291
Yes.

GW is fucking terrible at rules design, so the interactions are as follows:
1) True Model Line of Sight: In order to penalize you for creative modeling, line of sight is drawn depending on how you modeled the shooter and the intervening model, and how your opponent modeled the target.
2) Cover saves? What are those?: Intervening models cannot possibly be shot: there is no concept of the target getting a cover save, misses hitting the unit in between, etc - none of that. The intervening unit only matters for drawing LOS.
3) Shooting into melee? What do you think this is, the fluff?: Unlike in every WH40k story ever written, your tabletop units cannot (without a hard to get special rule, like IG has access to on one regiment, for example) fire into melee, full stop, so ignore what I said above if the intervening unit is within 1" of the target and is your own unit: you are magically banned from shooting.

All of the above is independent of other factors, so you can e.g. shoot a flamer "through" an intervening unit just fine - unlike in previous editions, there are no concerns with accidentally/on purpose setting your own dudes on fire.

>>

I love how you cumguzzlers are so obsessed with the LOS rules, but at the same time completely ignore that your warriors would not stand perfectly still half the time, while the two armies took turns shooting each other.
It's a game, games have abstractions, since not everyone has the extra chromosomes required to want a perfect simulation.
>>
>>68319481
Its not so bad, if 4 of 5 units are in cover, and 1 is out, you can kill the one who is out with the first unsaved wound, and then roll cover saves on the rest.
>>
>>68319439
>That's massive trauma, though.
Well, maybe that's why Rubicon Primaris is such a dangerous operation? Considering it already entails reinforcing muscles with literal metal coils removal of the Black Carapace sounds reasonable.

Does someone else think the clmbat doctrines rules make no sense? Why would using a particular doctrine somehow change the capacity of a weapon ammo to pierce through armour? Last edition made more sense since it gave bonuses to the to hit rolls, governed by the marine's ballistic skill.

Man I love like they love shiting on old lore. WB were the only legion that didn't break up, only one with structure, who still was ordered about by mystic visions from Lorgar. ADB comes along, and everything is broken up and shit, Only Abadond "totaly better then Horus trust me guys" does impossible stuff, while everyone else gets shit on, unless they are ADBs new creations. Nothing is cannon, unless it is something going against the lore that he wrote, then it is 110% true.
